the plasma went bad at exactly 2 years, 2 months from date of purchase, it would cost 800.00 to replace, I paid 1200.00 for a tv for 2 years. the company refused to help at all, I hate this tv.

After looking at HDTVs for a while, I kept coming back to plasma. My wife and I went to our local BestBuy multiple times to compare various models and we kept coming back to this Samsung. We liked it better than similar models from other brands (e.g., Pansonic, LG, Insignia). About the only models that looked better were the higher end Samsungs and Sonys. If you are looking for a good HDTV in this size and price range, this one is it.
FYI - I haven't had any glare issues with this plasma even though I have a well lit living room. I've played both Wii games (RCA jacks) and PS3 games (HDMI) as well as watched Blu Rays on the PS3. The picture is great even with darker movies and games. With most games, I sit about 12-14 feet from the screen and see everything just fine.

So we ended our month long search for a perfect TV at Best Buy deciding btw the Panasonic & Samsung plasmas. We were a bit concerned with the possible glare with a plasma, but the price & picture quality eventually won over LCD screens. We heard Panasonic was the biggest plasma manufacturer, but we liked the Samsung picture slightly better, so we purchased it! Set-up was very easy. We hung it on the wall with no issues. The glare is VERY MINIMAL. We put it in a room with 3 windows and glare hasn't even been an issue. The picture is very lifelike & color is amazing. I have watched The Dark Knight on this TV over & over. It's GREAT. The one negative is we had people over last week, so I needed to turn up with TV volume & it was slightly distored & muffled. At normal listening volumes the speakers are fine. I will eventually get surround sound which will fix this.

This Samsung is great. I have both a 42 inch LCD and Plasma both by Samsung. I bought this on for the bedroom due to the price. The picture is just as good as my LCD. Has every feature you can need or want. The only complaint I have with it is the speakers. They rattle when turned up. I have the LCD in the living room hooked up to surround sound at all times so I did the same in the bedroom and turned the speakers off. With a blu ray this Plasma picture looks better than my LCD acutally does. I am so impressed with this TV. Samsung has done a great job. My family members have other brands and they all agree after seeing both the Plasma and LCD I have by Samsung they will only buy Samsung for now on. Now I am in the market to buy our daughter a flat screen for her bedroom for Christmas and we arent sure if it will be a LCD or a Plasma but we know it will be a Samsung.

There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said. I researched a ton as well, went into Best Buy and looked at a bunch of TVs side by side, settled on this Samsung, and have never looked back. I've had it for about two months now and have zero complaints. HD broadcasts look amazing, Xbox360 games look even better, and shows filmed in true HD (like Planet Earth) will blow your mind. DVD's played from the Xbox through an HDMI input look shockingly good. I wish that the third HDMI input was on the back instead of the side, but that's a minor quibble. Everyone who sees the TV -- on or off -- thinks I paid WAY more than $670 for it. Probably the only TV that I have seen that bests this one in picture is the $4500 Pioneer Kuro Elite, and I've seen my fair share. Sports are particularly great, little to no pixellation or motion blur. And just as everyone else says, don't let the 720p deter you. It just means that you're not paying top dollar for a technology that makes almost no difference

I went into Best Buy with the intent on buying a 1080 120 LCD television. After looking at the available selection I was still undecided. My room is not real bright so plasma was the way to go. I thought that I wanted a 1080 but after seeing the picture clarity and definition of color on the Samsung which was right next to a Panasonic 1080 there was not comparison.Used the HDMI cable and was blown awaywatching football in HD has never been better.

It seems almost pointless to add my 2 cents to all the positive reviews for this Samsung, so I will be brief. I have owned several HDTV's both LCD and plasma. Panasonic, LG, Olevia, JVC, Sony and Samsung. LCD TV's have their advantages (no glare & less power consumption) however plasma TV rendering of colors & contrast simply outmatch any LCD I've seen. In my opinion, these are the most important factors in picture quality. All of my LCD's including the LG 120hz I owned had comic book colors and severe ghosting / image blurring. It was very annoying, so much so that I finally sold them all! Regarding the Panasonic S1 Series 1080p 42" Plasma. Although the Panasonic had a good picture, this Samsung has an overall BETTER picture with more features. Yes, the Samsung is 720p (and thus should provide a less detailed picture) but even when viewing 1080p blu ray movies, its picture is superior. At a viewing distance of 10ft, my eyes simply cannot see any measurable loss in image detail when compared

I researched the heck out of my first flat screen TV and after reading all the glowing reviews of this set, I bought it. I have to say, this TV has absolutely superb image quality, even in bright light. Nice, rich, deep blacks that plasma's are known for, accurate and vibrant colors, etc. Don't worry about it being 720P - no one is broadcasting in 1080P anyway! The HD quality is stunning - it looks like you're seeing things in person. Incredible clarity. The high refresh rate allows me to watch sports with absolutely no streaking that some LCD TV's have with lower refresh rates. Amazon's fast and free delivery was also very easy. The shipper called, set up a date and time, then came in and set it up for me. It could not have been any smoother or easier. This gets my highest recommendation.

Been looking for a while and samsung I think has the best picture. My neighbor bought one and I seen it in the home and just loved it. You can view from all sides without losing any picture. Colors are awesome.. Had hd service hooked up for sports and WOW what I've been missing. Sports look awesome no blurring crystal clear. I read the reviews and looked around and this is the best for the price, probably could have sold for alot more. Someone tried talking me into a LCD but what he listed was far less then this tv has to offer. I'm glad I bought this tv and would do it again and I do recommend this for anyone looking for a 42 in tv. extremely satisfied

Like many smart shoppers here at Amazon, I've done a fair amount of research for my first HDTV purchase, e.g. LCD vs Plasma, 720p vs 1080p, Samsung vs other reputable brands, etc. Thanks everyone for your in-depth posting of your review of Samsung PN42B450. I bought mine two days ago at Nebraska Furniture Mart during the Berkshire Hathaway (which owns NFM) 26th anniversary sales event for about the same price as I would have paid here at Amazon, tax included and 18 months interest free. So far, I'm very impressed with the picture quality, sound, and user-friendly menu design. The remote control is sleek and functional, but I wish it had lighted/glow-in-the-dark buttons (I don't think any HDTV at this price range has one). FYI, I have my TV placed in a fairly dark half basement family room and sit about 6 feet away from the TV. I watch mostly sports and documentary programs - I'm glad that I didn't buy a 50" TV, because 42" is plenty big, much bigger than it seemed at the store with

My co worker bought this TV a couple weeks ago. He really likes it. My TV finally went out. Been having good luck with samsung. Was comparing it to LG. But the LG's seem to be price higher, not sure why. Read the reviews very good. Went to the store and look at it. wasn't impressed with the LG that was 250 more. Looking at another TV with the same stats but bigger.

We bought this panel for use in our bedroom and use it for mostly night time viewing. Bar none for a 720p plasma this is the one to get. It has a great feature set of user controls and an excellent picture. The sound quality is more than adequate for a flat panel tv. As for other reviews I have read here I can let you know this. The one reviewer which said he has had problems with it after 3 years has reviewed the wrong set. This TV did not even exist 3 years ago as it is a 2009 model. The other reviewers who either had problems with the color and contrast levels or sound must not have taken the time or maybe they did just not know how to adjust the set to get the most out of it because the picture is absolutely stunning. Is it as good as the B650 1080p series or my Pioneer PDP-5020? Well no, but it cost a heck of a lot less and if you rate them all as bang for the buck, this set might just be the king!

First of all, this is a great TV despite my 2 stars. After two weeks, everything is perfect with DirecTV HD. The sound, the picture, everything. Everything, that is, except the lack of a headphone jack. Now, I knew it didn't come with a headphone jack when I bought it. But on the Samsung web site, it stated that I could use the audio out to connect to headphones. I use headphones for about 50-60% of my TV viewing. They are of utmost important to me because there are kids next door, and I can't turn up the volume after a certain hour. Plus, I have a loud fan going so it's more comfortable to listen with headphones rather than turn up the volume at full blast. When the TV arrived, I immediately tested the audio out to headphone connector I bought at Radio Shack. But I soon discovered that in order to listen to the headphones exclusively (without the speakers blasting) I had to turn off the TV volume. Unfortunately, turning off the TV volume disables the volume control and mute buttons

Did all the usual research, tried 3 HDTVs in my home - LG LCD, Samsung LCD both 1080, 120hz - and this Samsung Plasma. Also compared to the Panasonic X1, which is also great. In the end - I selected the Samsung B450, because it had a brighter picture than the Panasonic, and RCA Audio Out. Colors are fantastic, no pixelation, and no motion blur. Just an overall better picture than the equivalent LCDs, and just as good, or better picture, than the Panasonic, and brighter. Just make sure you've got a good HDTV signal - most recommend DirectTV - because without it you're wasting your money. I went through 3 HDTV converter boxes with Charter Cable, before I finally found one with a good signal (MOXI HDTV DVR). Likely will move to DirectTV later this year - more HDTV channels, and overall great signal on most channels. But... when you finally get a good HDTV signal - there is no better picture, than with this Samsung Plasma HDTV. Just a GREAT HDTV, at a GREAT PRICE! Just stop looking

I have had this TV for about 1.5 years. I was very pleased at first - but then something really strange happened. The sound would occasionally start to sound "funny". It would develop a bad echo or something that sounded like a "robot" talking. As soon as I would change channels, the problem would go away. For a while. Then it would start again. I had a hard time finding information on this problem, but eventually learned it is a very common problem with several models of Samsung TVs, and is still appearing in brand new sets. Samsung is aware of the problem, but they haven't even fixed it in their new products much less come up with a solution for those of us stuck with these things. This is a VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM. The good news - there is 'sort of' a fix. The bad news - it is a pain and the problem will re-appear. This seems to occur whenever there is a loss of power to the TV. The only solution is to do a full factory reset - which takes 15 minutes or so to complete, and

This is going to be a non-technical review among some very good detailed commentary, so please take it for what it's worth. I've owned two LCD HDTVs, an ancient but good viewing Syntax Olevia 27 inch, and a 46 inch Sharp which was burgled before I really got to enjoy it. On both the HDTV viewing experience was fabulous to my non-technical perspective, while standard def shows had bigger images and better colors, but no drop in quality. I was about to buy another LCD but was lured to this Samsung plasma by a great price and deal at Amazon... thinking if it gets lifted like the last one, my out of pocket loss is reduced. And I'm surprised by my disappointment. I'm 30 miles north of Albany, NY, a Direct TV subscriber, so lots of standard def channels and relatively few HD channels. The regular def shows, especially on a light background, have a fuzziness or halo effect around the edges of images, such as a person's face, that is really distracting. Switch it out for my venerable Olevia attached

I went with SAMSUNG because I know they are the best in electronics, their designs are unique and the best looking. I also have a 19' LCD for my PC.
Overall: I love the design of the screen, I love the black piano finish. This monitor was very easy to assemble and set up! I am very satisfied.

This is a preliminary review, which I'll follow-up after a few weeks / months of use - since the TV is new.
I researched this purchase extensively, and made extensive comparisons. Even buying both a 42" LG LCD 1080, 120hz and the 42" Samsung Plasma 720, 600hz to compare in my home.
While the LG is a great LCD TV, the Samsung Plasma edges it out - especially, when the source is providing 1080 p/i. At that resolution, there simply is no comparison. The Samsung Plasma has incredibly rich, accurate color, and outstanding detailed resolution - with absolutely no noticeable pixilation / motion blur - when the signal is 1080 p/i. While the LG LCD has less rich, accurate color, and less detailed resolution - with a bit of pixilation / motion blur.
However, the advantage is most noticeable when the source is providing 1080 p/i - the difference is less noticeable at 720 p/i and below. And that after all is the issue - there are not many true 1080 p/i signals available.

I bought this TV after shopping for about six months. During that time, while I learned about resolutions, color contrast, HDMI cables, plasma and LCD, and the basics of HDTV specs, I thought that I wanted to get an LCD. My price range was approximately 600-900 dollars, so I WAS mainly looking at 32-42 inch 1080p LCD TV's. The rationality behind this decision was that I could get a semi cutting-edge TV that was capable of receiving a 1080p signal, the best resolution available now. This seemed to make sense. However, I spent a lot of time watching LCD TV's in electronic stores and realized that, in my price range, plasma TVs all had higher color contrast ratios than comparable LCDs. After having this TV for a couple of months I realized that for me, the sacrifice of not being able to accept a 1080p signal was well worth it after you factor in the brilliant and life-like appearance of plasma TV's. It seems that plasmas have taken quite a cut in popularity.. there are probably a

The gentleman at Bestbuy told me that I really needed to purchase the 1080p if I wanted the best quality but I can't tell the difference. He did recommend that the plasma was the better way to go since we had a 19 month old who sometimes hits the tv and the lcd could be damaged. The plasma has a glass screen which I think gives it the more crisp/sharp look.

I did a lot of research and reading reviews on different TVs. I had my heart set on a Samsung 1080p 120hz LCD with all the bells and whistles. I went to the store to view the different LCDs with similar specs and noticed that they were "Grainy". I did some more research and waited... and waited, until I couldn't help but notice that the cost of PLASMA TVs has drastically dropped in price especially the 720p's. I don't know why, unless people like me had 1080p syndrome! I went to view this Samsung Plasma 720p 600 Hz because the price was so inticing. The picture quality and the color contrast was eye popping! There was no Grainy picture... just beautiful rich picture. In hind sight, I'm glad I didn't "settle" for the 1080p 120hz LCD. Plasma is the way to go.

I have read reviews about plasma vs. lcd. Plasma always won. So I read reviews about the best plasma tvs. Panasonic was always at the top of the list. So I went to best buy with the purpose of buying a panasonic viera. I ended up comming home with this instead because when viewed side by side to me it just looked better. It wasn't until later that I read a professional review that the Samsung scored a 94 out of 100 and the panasonic scored 92. All I have to say about this tv is wow. The colors are acurate the blacks are black and the features are easy to navigate. It is the perfect tv for those on a budget who don't wish to compramise on picture qaulity. The only draw back is expect to pay about $15 to $20 more on electricity

This tv has been in my Golf Store for about 2 weeks now and i still can not believe how great the picture is. Friends told me not to buy a 720p tv but i'm increadibly happy that i chose this tv. The Picture for sports, movies, and even for the everyday news is amazing. You will not be dissapointed.

After looking around forever, I finally settled on the 42-inch plasma from Samsung. It arrived today and I have to say the picture is fantastic. (I'm told that burn in and other issues from earlier plasma models have been rectified to a large extent - we'll see.) Their shipper did a good job and the set arrived without a scratch. One suggestion: Give the shipper's contact info on the Amazon order page - this will save a lot of running around looking for their number in the event you need to contact them, which I did. (Please note: I ordered from Amazon and not from one of the other sellers who also appear on the site.)

We bought this set to replace an old Sony Trinitron we have. We already have a DLP that does 1080p so just wanted a cheap replacement for the Sony. I can honestly say this looks better than any LCD we looked at in the $900 and under price range. Glare is not an issue and it is next to a large bay window, facing away though. Even on bright days it's never as bad as our old Sony. Blu-Ray looks great as does the PS3 and 360. We bought it for $649.99 and couldn't be happier. One recommendation is mess with the settings, find what you like then go back after about 100 hours and adjust them again. Settings needed to be changed a bit to allow for the standard digital channels drop in quality, HD looked perfect.

I did an exhaustive amount of research on which tv was best for me under a budget. The first problem was choosing between an LCD and a Plasma tv. in all honesty, if you can't control the amount of light in your room of use or if you usually watch tv during daylight hours...you shouldn't get a plasma tv. the picture will look very dim. I was going to put this tv in my basement where I can make it as dark as I want so I went with plasma.
Secondly, I use my tv primarily for video games. I went with the Samsung 42 inch plasma because of the high refresh rate and .001 response time. I properly "broke in" the tv by watching full screen movies and tv shows for the first several hours of use to prevent burn in and excessive image retention.
this tv is a great buy! Highly recommended to anyone! You DON'T need to spend $1000+ to get a high quality television experience. the touch of color adds a subtle amber shade to the black frame; giving the tv an exquisite and unique style.

What a wonderful TV this turned out to be. I was debating between an RCA that I saw at Walmart and a Proscan that I found at Costco. I'm glad I went with the name brand Samsung. Color is amazing and sound is fantastic. The HDMI cables that I bought on Amazon were really low cost as well. Setup was super easy and the unit was remarkable light compared to units just a few years old. Highly recommended.

This is the first time I've bought something like this through Amazon and not only am I extremely pleased, my experience with the seller and installer was equally great. This TV has a crisp, clear picture and is fairly intuitive to operate. Plenty of inputs for multiple HDMI connections (3) and PC and cable/satellite. 720p is more than enough HD resolution for most shows. Great value for the price.

Samsung has the plasma technology down. Compared to the Sony Bravia LCD, I prefer the Samsung. But if a bright room is a factor, i would stick to LCD. The manual states avoid static screens for burn in, and includes a tool to remove light residuals if there is. Also its user upgradeable via usb thumbdrives with software that can be downloaded from samsung.com. I did get a pixel that was stuck on a bright light. I used JscreenFix to repair with my computer hooked up and It hasn't come back. I use Vista media center and found that (with dvi to hdmi cable) setting to 1080p on the mce tv ouput, and letting the tv downscale to 720p produced the best results. Also, non-hd avi's look real good on this set. DVD's through my Panasonic upconverting dvd player via HDMI upscaled to 720p also look real good. live sports broadcasts look real good with no blur. (if you see pixelation on this set, then its the broadcast, not the tv) Standard definition looks good too, and theres a setting to fine tune

I have been doing research on HDTVs for my living room and master bedroom for over 1 year. CNET has not reviewed this TV yet, but after going through all their HDTV reviews on Samsung sets, I have no hesitation to purchase this TV when it's price hit $699 with free shipping. This is the latest of Samsung's budget plasmas, and I couldn't be anymore happier. The menu is simple to navigate, picture is bright and crisp. I used auto program to find available channels via my wall cable, and it found at least 100 channels (both OTA HD-digital, and also cable digital). My only con is that I can't "name" those numerous channels in my list; thus, I have to memorize the specific channel numbers. Since I use this TV in my bedroom, I decided not to purchase an additional cable decoder for it. Originally, I was going to purchase the 32" Samsung LCD, but for an extra $150, I went for the 42"! I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a budget set for their bedroom or gameroom.

I have had this tv for just over a month now. I love it. The colors are vibrant and beautiful. Setup was very easy. The only downside is the speakers are not the greatest. I would say they are average at best. But I am happy with it overall. I would recommend this tv to anybody. I know it isn't 1080p but at 1080i or 720p unless your an eagle eye you can't tell the difference. Besides most tv is only broadcast in 720p anyway.

I've had my TV for about 4 hours, but I'm already in love with it. It's my first HDTV and I couldn't be happier with the picture that it puts out. I've seen my friends HDTV's and I think the picture on mine is better - that can be attributed to plasma though - the colors are more crisp and the blacks are actually black, not gray and washed out like on my friends TV's. The sound is okay, but nothing fabulous. I rated it a 4 because after adjusting the EQ it sounds pretty good.
I've been using Samsung products for years - tv's, computer monitors, other electronics, etc. Their products have always been the best I've owned, and so I'm confident this TV will give me years of use. If you buy this TV you will be pretty happy, I promise.

I purchased this TV after researching for about a month. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. This is the 2009 model. Although I read many reviews claiming that plasmas are to be phased out, I can't see one reason why. The picture quality is excellent considering it's a 720p. I stood in the store quite some time comparing it to the other models. Could NOT tell the difference.
After reading reviews about TV's going out, I purchased the Black Tie Protection. It's an extended warranty for only $160.00. And considering the price for the TV I could afford it.
If you're on a budget, this IS the TV for you.
I also would like to note that there are FOUR windows in my living room and glare is not an issue here.
I also have a Nintendo Wii, which looks amazing with no burn in problems right out the box. Even if it did burn in my protection covers it so no worries.
The only bad thing is that you don't have a lot of hook-up options

Price, delivery, set-up and the product itself are all first rate. I'm still floored at how vastly superior this plasma TV's picture quality is to the grainy, blurry and somewhat artificial look on comparable LCD's. A well built and attractive unit with an equally attractive price. No complaints or criticisms whatsoever from this customer. Definitely THE budget HDTV to buy.

This plasma is better then $2,000 plasma tvs that are just 2-3 years old. I have seen it as low as $650. I have had this set for about 2 months and am very happy with it. Performance is great, colors and blacks are great. This is my first plasma and I was a bit afraid of buzzing, burn in and image retention. This set has none of those problems. I play a lot of video games on it and have not had any image retention or burn in problems. No buzzing, turns on fast, switches channels fast. Motion on video games/sports looks perfect. I compared this to the Panasonic x1/s1/g10 and the Panasonic just had more background noise in the picture and blacks not as good in daylight... not sure if that can be fixed. Panasonic also makes a great set so I doubt you could go wrong with either of em. I will be moving this to the bedroom and getting the 63" samsung plasma to replace it. A friend bought a 1080p Sony LCD for $1,800 and this set has better blacks and colors! Plasma looks more natural

Samsung 42" is great. This tv brings to you like if you're inside a movie theater. It can be change by dynamic to movie screen type. Its crazy. And the sound from music to movie. And wow! it has so many connections that you can attach to it such as internet, PS3, Satellite, and you can even charge you cell phone! And it has sources to change of channel either your PS3 connection, internet connection, satellite conncetions your dvd connection..so it is an amazing tv. I really really recommended..

bought this tv along with a samsung dvd player a few months ago and hooked them up with a HDMI cable. Couldn't be more impressed, the picture quality is amazing. The one main down side is the tv speakers are horrible. I ended up ordering a y splitter and hooked up my computer speakers to it for now. i plan on taking this to college so i didn't see the point of surround sound just yet but the sub from my computer speakers is more then enough for what im looking for. If your on a tight budget but still want a good tv this is a great buy.

I am very impress with most HD shows, gaming (Xbox 360), and regular DVD's (non HD or Blue Ray) look good on an upgraded DVD player.
I have been rather disappointed in the image quality of sporting events. I watch a lot of basketball and camera views from a distance appear a bit grainy, but on the other hand close up camera angles look great. My only other complaint is that the speakers tend to vibrate a bit with the sound up. There may be some adjustments that can correct these issues, but I haven't found them yet, and am fairly tech savvy.

I just bought this tv and am amazed at the quality. I had my choices narrowed down between the panasonic p42u1/p42s1 (two models but basically the same) and this one. Luckily the store had them right next to each other so I could compare the picture. Even though the Panasonic was 1080p and the Samsung 720p, the Samsung had a better picture using the same feed.
When I got it home, I hooked it up to my standard definition Directv box and the picture was awesome. My wife gets so sick of me commenting about how good the picture is. Then I bought the $30 RCA HD antenna to get the local channels in HD for free. It is amazing how clear the HD picture comes in. However, I do live within the city limits so that probably plays a part.
This tv has a Dynamic mode that brightens up all the colors. They are so bright it almost hurts my eyes. The sound quality is really good to. It does not have satellite speakers, but still gives the impression of surround sound. I have a Sony surround

The picture quality of this plasma is very good. I couldn't bear to look at the LCD's as the picture is too grainy for my taste. Being a bit of a film buff I find the plasmas to be more along the lines of film quality. This plasma has a nice soft tone to all of the colors with none of them being washed out. The blacks are displayed fine as well. This display does need some color tweaking out of the box as all displays do, but once it's dialed in I can only say good things about the quality.
There is a HDMI port along with audio / video connectors on the side of the display along with two more HDMI ports on the back. PC input and fiber optical out.
If you are looking for a Plasma display and are on a sub $1000 budget this is the one to get.

I bought this set less than 3 years ago and it has been in the shop for 3 weeks now. Samusung did not have the parts in stock and the authorized service agent did treid 3 things before finally identifiying the problem. Picture is gone...flashed bright colors on and off every second. Cost almost as much to fix as to buy a new one. I recommend staying away from Plazma...not so sure I would buy antoher Sumsung.

Great Buy! 720p vs. 1080p arguement is trivial. It all depends on how much money you are willing to spend on a TV. For the quality you get with this TV why spend 100's more on 1080p? Two possible negatives depending on how/where you want to use the TV...
- There will be some glare if placed near a window. Not a deal breaker but something to be aware of. Mine is temporarily near a window and I would be fine with it there forever. However it will be brought to the basement in our new house where the natural light will be drastically decreased.
- The sound isn't the best, which is to be expected of most flat screens (LCD & Plasma). I am used to having everything played through surround sound so if this is the case with you I would recommend purchasing another surround sound system if this is going to be an added TV and not a replacement. If you've never watched TV with surround sound you would never know the difference so sound may not be an issue for you.

This tv is absolutely beautiful and I challenge anyone to find a bigger or better one in this price range. Plasma was the way for us to go because we generally watch tv at night and this minimizes glare amazingly. Simple setup and crystal clear picture out of the box. The bad news: the shipping company PILOT FREIGHT. I ordered this on may 17 (a Sunday). I was told guaranteed delivery the following Friday (the 22nd). Granted, Memorial Day was that Monday, but by Wednesday of the NEXT week I had heard nothing and the tracking info they gave me was bogus. After contacting them 5 TIMES I was told it was left on the dock unclaimed. I was never called to schedule a delivery time. I was then told had I NOT CALLED THEM my package would be considered unclaimed freight after 14 days and returned to shipper. In short it took 2 weeks and I had to do their job for them. The cables, though, showed up the day after my order. Amazon was great and I order quite frequently but their shipper is near usel

This is the second 42" inch Samsung plasma TV I have bought from Amazon. The first Nov. 2007 and the 2nd May 2009. Both sets were delivered with free white glove shipping, and both were just great out of the box. Now for the review. the Samsung PN42B450 got hooked up to my DirecTV and the picture and sound are just great out of the box, meaning the factory settings were just right and I didn't have to change a thing. For a TV priced at around $700 you couldn't ask for much more.

I purchased this Samsung PN42B450B on May 20, 2009. Today is Thursday May 28, 2009. As promised it arrived shipped from 6AVE in exactly one week. I helped the U.P.S. man carry it in yesterday at about 9:30 a.m. All the way from the warehouse in New Jersey, it was easy to track the shipment to our house in Orlando, Florida. One week is pretty good for FREE SHIPPING.
Our old television was a standard 32" Toshiba which we purchased from Sam's Club in October of 1999 when we moved up here from Pinellas County. We shopped around quite a long time for that one too. It lasted up until now. The picture is just getting enough power to give an hour glass representation. Other than that, the Toshiba was fine. In fact, I looked around for a Toshiba to replace it. The closest I could come was a Toshiba 40" at just around $740 almost everywhere. Honestly, it seemed like the price was price fixed!

I have to be honest with you, this tv has got an amazing picture and for the price it cost you cannot beat that. I looked up a few other tv's and I am gonna say I saw this one and the picture literally feels as if the people are coming out of the tv. It is that clear and clean of a picture. Speakers can be a little better but I hooked a surround sound system up and its just like the movie theater in your own home. I strongly recommend checking into this plasma tv, excellent buy and the best buy staff were very helpful in my selection and showed me everything you can get with the tv.

We were wowed by the price of this TV, read the reviews, and decided to try it. Although it is only $699, IMO, you are better off to take that $699 and apply it to a better TV. The picture is not good. The colors look "bright and crisp" in the store, but that translates to unrealistic and cartoonish when you get home. Some images are blurry, We really tried to love this TV, mainly for the price, but couldn't. We took it back and exchanged for the Sharp Aquos LCD 1080, and couldn't be happier with our decision. This TV is a waste of your money. We learned a big lesson on trying to go cheap! I can't believe how many people have given it good reviews. My only thought is that they maybe have never owned a really good TV to compare. We knew right away when we hooked it up that we would not be happy with the picture quality. Lesson learned; spend more for quality.

I've had the same 27 inch CRT since I was in college. When I bought it, it was a huge set up from the 19 inch that I grew up with.
However, ten years later, women would literally come to my apartment, point at the TV and laugh.
Figured it was timed to make the next step up. I brought the plasma and later a PS3. Watched "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and I'm sold.
The axiom is that 720p is indistinguishable from 1080p on screens smaller than 50 inchs. My experience bares this out. Connect this TV to a HD source, adjust the levels under the "Standard" preset, and u won't be anything but amazed.
I went with plasma over LCD because plasma TVs handle motion much better. LCD is hindered by a signicantly lower refresh rate that gives the most this weird 3D quality that i always thought was disturbing.
For action movies, video games, and sports... plasma is the way to go.
I also play GTA4 on this set, and it handle the motion beautifullly.

I was looking for a sub $1,000.00 42" Plasma, and after owning a Panasonic for the past 4 years, which by the way is still a very good Plasma and is used many hours a day, but I didn't want to spend that much on my second TV. I looked at the Samsung at the BB store and they had placed it right next to the Panasonic X1, I know that they set these up in store mode, and feed them a canned HD signal, but the sales guy let me play with the remotes, and the Samsung offers way more flexibility in adjusting image quality. Got it home and after a few days of playing with the adjustments, it looks as good as my Panasonic, but at 699.99 0n sale this is a great bargain. The sound is "good enough" don't expect it to be better than that, but at this price it's not an issue. The only time I can see the sound being an issue is if the set is in a large room or you just have to have true surround sound. It does have an analog (red & white RCA) jack so you can hook it to any stereo that has an AUX in.

This was our first flat panel tv. And like many others, didn't want to break the bank. We did a lot of research before making the decsion to go with this tv. As many other folks mention, you're going to have to spend $1400+ to get an LCD that can compare with this plasma. Don't get caught into thinking you have to buy an LCD because I don't think that's the case. This tv is awesome and we would recommend this one to anyone. The sound is marginal but we have a bose surround system which really made the sound a non-factor for us. I'm not sure many flat panels probably have good sound anyway. Samsung is a very reputable brand in flat panels and had we not chosen this one, we would have went with Sony. My wife and I feel like this was money well spent and a steal at the price it's being offered.

If you are in the 500 to 1000 price range and dont want 1080p, then this is your TV. Plasmas just have a better picture than any LCD in the price range and you get more TV. Don't listen to the plasma tv glare line. Most of us had a tube tv and the curved glass screen will produce more glare than a flat plasma screen. I have not had a problem with glare at all. This TV has a brilliant picture with a 2,000,000 dynamic contrast ratio. As far as the speakers go, I have surround sound so i always turn the speakers off and I want a good picture out of a TV not sound. I have a PS3 and the games and blu-rays look great.

We bought this TV on sale in the store, but even at regular price, this has to be one of the best values from Best Buy's assortment. Yes, you can always look at the specs - 1020p, 120hz, contract ratios, etc. We did just that when we started shopping for a new TV. But then we stepped back and started looking at quality, learned more about plasma TV's in general, their higher response time compared to LCD's and just overall better price point for your wallet. You can't even tell that it is 720p, it actually outperforms most of the 1020p TV's out there in the store... Seriously, the best way to buy a TV is go to a store, don't even look at the specs, step back and find out which ones you would like (knowing your size limitations). Then come back, look at the price tags and take the winner home. My bet is that this Samsung 42" plasma is going to be your winner, no doubt. The sharpness, the brightness, the vivid colors, EASE OF USE -- all of these put together, you can't beat it. You can easily

Last Saturday, May 8, I stopped the shopping and took the plunge, purchasing this great plasma tv---for $699 at BB!!!!!! Can you believe that price for a plasma tv of this caliber!!?? It is my third flat panel tv (the others are a JVC 37" LCD and a Sony 42" DLP/LCD, one in the family room and one in the basement)and I like this plasma best of all. The colors are great, the remote is set up logically and the on-screen menu is easy to use. Recently, I had a new floor to ceiling bookcase built and needed a 42" tv to put in the tv cave, so I've been looking for 42 inch-ers and found that 42 inch seems to be a less popular size, so I am glad I found this tv. I was looking for an LCD and just happened to stumble on this tv while shopping online. I then checked it out at BB where it was on sale for $700, $100 more than the BB online price I found. I informed the BB salesperson of the better BB online price and the store matched the BB online price. So, by shopping online and then speaking

This is my second Samsung from Best Buy. Loved my first so I couldn't resist doing it again. The sales people are very helpful and for the most part know their product. I did my research first so for my budget this plasma was perfect. They actually price matched a competitor and got it for less than the $699.99 sale price now. For an extra $20 I could have gotten the comparable Panasonic which has great reviews but the Samsung looks so much sleeker. Just plugged in my DVR box and off I went. No set-up required!! Some people complained about the speakers but I find the sound perfect. I don't need my floors rumbling with a subwoofer. HD movies are crystal clear though I haven't tried watching a dvd as of yet. I'm an electronic geek and always love the newest and latest product but I held back this time. I saved myself a grand by not getting suckered into a set which picture looks just as great as this one. I sit about 12 feet away and find this 42" the perfect size. I can't blame Samsung

It is a great television for the money. I watch a lot of bluerays on it, and it looks as good in 720p as most lcds look in 1080p. There are enough inputs for any person wanting to add game consoles, or DVD/blueray players. It is a bit on the heavy side, but once it is hooked up, that really does not matter. The speakers in the television, are awful, but most are in TV’s over 32 inches. This is an amazing TV. don’t hesitate, the blacks are very black, and the colors are very vibrant. You will not get a picture like this, with an LCD, I promise.

We've had this TV for only a week and we LOVE it. Of course upgrading from a tube TV to a flat screen is as huge difference. This TV paired with Dish Network HD TV is a great combination.
When comparing this model against 1080p LCD TVs or other 720p Plasmas that were similar in price, we thought this 720p Plasma had just as good or better picture. Being at least $200 cheaper was a big plus. We don't have the back light issue in our living room so the picture looks absolutely perfect.
The sound as with many of these types of TVs isn't top notch. We use our home theater system for sound anyway.
Overall, a fantastic TV for the price.

Great quality at this price point, way above my expectations!
My goal was to get an HDTV for no more than $1000.

well lets get right to the point. The tv is very easy to set up all i did was plug in all my componets inculding a ps3 a sound system and a comcast cable box and it took all of 5 minutes to finish. The picture clarity in standard def chanels are great and the the hi def blurays look fantastic. Sound quality wasn't the greatest but you can remedy this with a simple sound system. The slim design makes it easly to fit on almost any stand and because it is a plasma you can sit anywhere or go anywhere in the room and still see the picture as clear as day. The price is what truly blew me away with how affordable it is just under 800 dollars.

I wasn't really planning on buying a 42 inch Samsung since I already have a Toshiba 32 inch in our room and a 50 inch Samsung in our living room but my fiance' watches a lot of sports mainly basketball and boxing so I figured, why not? Might as well with that price of $799, who could go wrong? The set up was easy, as with my other Samsung which was also bought at Best Buy (Ilia, the mgr at Milpitas treats us like royalty when we're there)! The color was better than ever! For me, nothing really beats Samsung and I have been a Sony fanatic! Now I completely switched--for good! The picture quality is very good with deeper black and awesome contrast! I never regret buying this tv, my family enjoys it a lot especially now that I have my blu ray dvd, and a bose sorround sound, it's perfect! Watching a movie has never been so good with Samsung!!!

Don't let the hype of 1080p scare you away from this great value. If you put this 720p Plasma side by side with a 1080p LCD you will not be able to tell the difference. The plasma possibly looks better(no motion blur, great blacks and colors, etc.) I shopped this against Panasonic and Sony and this was simply the best deal. Customer service was great and the Store manager even price matched a competitor's sale. Great shopping experience, and a great product. Thanks Best Buy!!!!

I was ecstatic when I realized I could get a great plasma TV for under 1K rather than an LCD. I don't know about you, but the LCD tends to pixelate when the images go fast which drives me up the wall. So I've been saving for a plasma for that reason alone. I couldn't believe when I found such a large, good picture TV for such a great price. I just got it last night and watched a movie on it, and it was great. I have an older DVD (no bluray, etc) but the picture still looked great. Yippie!

First we bought the 42 inch vizio LCD (XVT) because of the 1080p and 120hz refresh, and it was on sale at Costco, but we found it to be annoyingly grainy, even while watching discs on our high-end Bluray machine (Sony BDP-BX1). After much deliberation and research online, we decided for the money we should be thrilled about the purchase, and so returned the Vizio to Costco (they took it, no questions asked, even without the box) and bought this Samsung plasma from Bestbuy for $100 less. The result... this is what we were looking for. We watch movies in the dark and this TV is perfect for it. No grain, crisp and beautiful. Is 1080p really that important? Or is this just more size-matters syndrome? Who knows - but this 720p plasma looks worlds better than the 1080p LCD, for less money. Go with this one!

This TV can't be beat for the price. Plasma's have gotten a bad rap for overheating, getting burn in, and not lasting very long. These are mostly all false. The overheating and not lasting very long is a lie. I think this set is rated for over 100,000 hours of viewing. However if you don't know how to use a plasma and decide to leave a still image up on the screen for hours you will get some burn in, but it will likely go away after watching some tv. For sports this tv can't be beat, there is a .001 ms response time that no lcd will ever reach and it's got 600 hz proccesing. Great TV, get one before they go up in price!!

I did extensive research and it came down to this and the lg42pq30... I bought the lg because they are top notch when it comes to their plasma tv's...samsung is good for their lcd's. Anyway, something was missing when i set up the lg, and my gut told me to exchange for the samsung in 10 days. Long story short............ my wife came home and when she saw the samsung, she said," oh yeah this is much better. The images are crisp and well defined"
About the sound, I did get use to the nice sound coming from the lg, but since i use it in my bedroom and not my living room, sound is not of the essence

I bought the predecessor to this TV (PN42A400) and it is amazing jaw-dropping color and sound. Images on the screen are so true to life it looks like you can reach in and touch them. This TV has added alot of features more inouts, larger contrast ration, sub-field technology creating 600Hz, usb input, and all wrapped in the TOC (Touch of Color.) shell. Beautiful.
I researched for 6months before I bought my tv. Dont be fooled by the media hype. Your eyes cant see the difference between 1080P and 720P unless you are sitting 5.5 ft or closer to the screen. (ON 46" or SMALLER MODELS)
GO Plasma refresh rates are FASTER THAN LCD. Clear action movies and sports.
Under $800, Samsung, All those features, Plasma, 600Hz, THIS IS A NO BRAINER!!! Dont walk RUN to get this before they are gone. Seriously these Tv's are that nice!

I got this TV in the Best Buy bundle they offered with the Xbox 360. For the price, I had absolutely not expected how great this TV is. The picture quality is definitely amazing, and I still can't find a TV in any display stores with better HD quality so far. Like all plasmas, it does show the true black perfectly and there's no motion blur what-so-ever in any of the video games or sports programming I've played so far. It also has inputs galore (3 HDMIs, VGA/sound PC input, optical audio output) which makes it easy to hook up to all the different components. I'm also able to cut down on extra cables by utilizing the optical sound output to my Denon receiver, so anything I view on the TV feeds digital sound to my AV system.
If you're looking for a true hidden gem, this TV probably offers the greatest value out there right now - and the Plasma is still superior to LCD at the moment.

I set myself to a budget of 900 dollars to find a set to replace my 27" mid 90s CRT. I watch movies and sports and wanted to find a the best picture I could for these things. I looked at so, so, many sets and purchased a very well reviewed LCD plus the Samsung plasma. I liked that watching college basketball, everyone there had a clear picture with the plasma, which was not the case with the LCD (they were both set up in the room). Looking straight on, the pictures were very similiar and excellent with HD broadcast just not at a large angle with the LCD. But, watching movies, wow, the plasma just did better, no matter how I adjusted the LCD, especially with dark scenes or contrasty ones. This one looked good out of the box. Colors are very good without adjusting. A previous poster said there were no composite connections but there are two. Wish there were a USB but can use my DVD or if I get a blueray. For any price, I think this is an incredible TV. You could spend a thousand more and

The HD quality is excelent and the standard digital and analog picture is good but could be better if this tv had componant video connections. With out componant video you can not take advantage of the progressive scan capabilities of most non HD dvd players also most cable and satelite boxes you have the componant video option for connecting to your tv . HDMI is the only way to get a better dvd picture and to use HDMI you will need to upgrade to an upconverting dvd player or a Bluray player. I understand that this is Samsungs way of trying to compete in the plasma market by offering a lower priced unit. If I had had more knowledge of this when I bought the TV I would have spent the extra dollars to get this feature.

Was wanting a HDTV for a long time and was worried cause we have very few HD channels available through our cable system, and didnt think it would look good with analog channels. I couldnt have been more wrong. Analog looks excellent, and HD is unbelievable. I think Samsung provides the best bang for the buck. I have heard the sound isn't that great but I turned the tv speakers off anyway cause we run it through our surround sound. The only negative thing I've found is that it doesnt have a s-video input. But I can live without it. Make sure none of your components require it.

BLU RAY AND REGULAR DVDS ARE VERY ACCURATE ALSO. IF YOU WANT A TV THAT DOES IT ALL FOR THE BEST PRICE THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU.

Great TV for the price. Out of the box settings were very good. You could get a better TV for 2000 dollars, but this seems to be the best TV in this price point by a wide margin. I'll be dropping cable now since I have a HD antenna, and the picture looks amazing! Everything is so smooth, and the color is great. I had no problem giving up the 1080p features of higher end TVs for this TV (I don't have a blu-ray player, and it's only 42 in so you're not going to notice the difference hardly). Worth every penny and more.

This is a fantastic HDTV!
It has an abundant amount of necessary inputs and outputs, boots up quickly (I've seen my friend's Sony Bravia LCD take almost a minute to load), and has fantastic picture and sound quality. The remote is comfortable and functional. This is a great TV for anyone, regardless of if your on a budget or not.

After checking out the Sony Bravia LCD and Panasonic x1.
This tv Samsung PN42B450 has the best picture quality and most of all BEST black and white image TRUE Colors.
I would recommed anyone looking for a 42 inch plasma take a look at this one you will love it.
LCD still lags color and image on the side viewing.

Researched TVs of quite sometime, went to the store with intentions of buying a 1080 LCD, the Samsung 40" 1080 40A we wanted was out of stock and replaced with a newer model for an additional $100, salesman took us to the plasma TVs and this a 42" was back to the original price we were going to spend, we brought home this TV and it has exceeded all expectations. Great for the price set it up with a home theatre in about 45 mins. I would highly recommed this plasma you wont be dissapointed.
