For the price I paid (999.00 for the TV and a Panny bd-60 blu-ray player), I cannot believe how great this TV is. Picture quality appears to me to be spot-on, although some reviews have complained about its green push problem. I myself have no idea what they are referring to--green seems fine and I see no green overcast or anything like that. I went into the service menu and made some changes suggested by someone who had had their P50S1 calibrated (see avsforum for the droid6 settings).
Sound quality from the built-in speakers is OK, not great, but I don't care because I run the sound from my home theater system anyway.
Overall, I am very pleased with this TV.

I've had it now for a couple of weeks and am very happy with my choice
After the Time Warner guy came over and switched the sound from the cable box to the TV, quality went up big time!
You must do this or else you will end up with average (below) audio
Also switched from component cables to HDMI cable and a set top box that accepts HDMI, another must do
If you have a bright room and cannot adjust the amount of light that enters it, you will not be happy, I semi close my vertical blinds during the day and problem solved
I was watching the pricing for a few months on this at BB, when it hit $999 for the second time, I pulled the trigger, have not seen it at a lower price at BB or any place else
I plan to, after a few 100 hours or so of use have it ISF calibrated, I figure I paid only $999, why not get the absolute best picture I can out of it for a few hundred more, I have read that doing the ISF calibration really fine tunes things

For any gamers out there that may be debating over buying a plasma or LCD, plasma is the way to go. I previously owned a SAMSUNG 46 inch LCD and was forced to buy a new TV when it was stolen. It took me awhile to decide on a plasma set for a replacement, but man, it was the right choice. The specs for this TV (and all plasmas) blow LCD's out of the water. The main issue I was concerned with, was BURN IN. You may read some reviews saying "TV is lame. You have to use standard settings for 100 hours to break in!!! My screen is ruined now b/c of burn in! Bla bla bla..." *NOT EXACTLY TRUE* I calibrated the TV the WAY I WANTED IT the day I brought it home (contrast is set to 100). As long as you are responsible, you aren't going to have any problems. My TV is proof, hours of nonstop MW2 nOOob pWning...and my set is still just FINE ;)

I have been a long time owner of Panasonic Plasma televisions. I have a 60u series, a 75u series, and now I have this 50" S1 that I am reviewing. The panel has an awesome contrast ratio, and some of the greatest black levels on the market, perhaps only rivaled by the top of the line Pioneer Elite Kuro flat screens. The television has teh ability to produce a 1080p image with ZERO overscan, which means that the picture isnt slightly stretched past the ends of the screen, as most sets do. (and you dont even know it). This is important because 1080p signals transfer from source to tv, matching pixel for pixel, a true 1:1 picture. Over scan can be turned on as well, if you like.
Unfortunately....this is the first Panasonic Plasma I have owned that has had a primary color problem. The problem lies in the color Green. The green is slightly inacurate, making deep greens seem a tad brighter, and slightly more yellowish. This is not a big deal, and other televisions have this issue as well.

Great Picture! even 480i Wii looks great. The SD card reader is awsome as no more looking for wires for hooking up the camera. Like the fact that there is a HDMI on the side for hooking up the laptop for custom slideshows

This Panasonic 50' Plasma TVHD exceeded my wildest expectations Clarity, Depth, great Color and Definition(distiinctive Whites/ Blacks) Got a great deal @ Best Buy and although their 4 year maintenance is a bit pricy knowing I will have very reliable & knowledgeable local support, should I need it, makes it worth while. The only poor performance is in the sound system. It does not have true surround sound but since I have a high quality stereo and speaker system it’s not a problem for me. I use Brighthouse cable service and their tecky setup the connections between the TV-Sound system- DVD/ recorder and C/D player.

Just bought this Plasma after 2 months of research, read Consumer Report study on LCD/Plasma, and many trips to BB. Very easy to setup. Pic is excellent right out of the box, color, brightness and darkness are perfect, sound system is very good, and the price is great !!!
Replace a 3.5 yrs old SONY DLP HD projector ($2,500). This Panasonic blows the SONY DLP out of water for $1K. Read many complaint/issue about glaring issue on the plasma TV and poor sound quality of Panasonic. This TV seats across from my 2 windows and glare is not a big (or small) issue. It is much less glare than the old projector TV. Sound quality is very good by itself, which I don't know why Consumer Report gave it an OK grade. At the store, I compared this Panasonic with Samsung 50B550 (Samsung is better rated by Consumer Report). Samsung TV seems to picking up much more glare than this one. Quality of pic is about the same between the two. Samsung came with the extra Blueray disc player for free, yet, I

Right out of the box, this unit looks awesome. I haven't tweaked the picture at all, and I stare in amazement at it every day. The motion blur from my 32" LCD when I watch sports is practically gone with this plasma, and so far burn-in seems to not be an issue (just don't be careless and you'll be fine). Xbox looks great on it too. I had been looking for an LCD of this size, but I'm thrilled that I saved some money and got just as good a picture with this Panasonic.

I purchased this TV at Sears, and thought that I had gotten a phenomenal deal (at least compared to my brother who bought a nice 2008 model 8 months prior for about $500 more). Unfortunately, after I purchased the television and brought it home, I didn't have a chance to watch it much the first month I owned it (and Sears has a 30 day return policy). After several hours of viewing, however, I noticed a prominent green pixel in the "Sweet Spot" of the television. Now, it seems that this nefarious dead pixel is all I can focus on while watching this television. While watching football we even call the green pixel the 12th defender, or the 3rd tight end on occasion, as it seems to figure prominently on many plays on both sides of the ball. Now, I am no expert on dead pixels, but I've started to research it a bit more, and I do think that manufacturers are doing customers a disservice by attempting to utilize ISO tolerances as an excuse not to fix something they market as a premium product.

UPDATE: I was able to convince Panasonic to come out a take a look at the dead pixel for themselves. In this case, once they came out, they agreed to accept to a return of my panel because of the prominence of the dead pixel in the prime viewing area. So, I've updated this review from 1 stars to 5 starts as this television really does offer the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Ok, first of all, i found this TV at a great price at bestbuy.com, second, the delivery was professional and friendly (they took my old tv away). At first when i hooked the tv up it was ok, then i followed the calibration procedures that i found in the reviews and it was ok... Then i went to the Best Buy store to buy the HD THX Ultimate Cable (You only need one hooked to your cable box if it supports it), and.....and.... OMG!!!!!!!!!! the image is super crisp, fast, sound got a boost (which i dont understand why everyone else says the sound is ok or not good) which im fine with that, specially if you are living in a condo... I just cant think of anything bad about this TV, i highly recommend it... I watch Soccer, movies and play video games and it looks amazing!!!

This is my first HDTV. I chose this set over an equally priced samsung after 3 months of careful research. The picture quality is incredible, especially BluRay. I use cable TV, and with the HD package it looks great. Standard definition is alright, but if you are going to buy a TV like this you most likely will not be watching standard anyways. The only knock I have seen others write about this model is regarding the sound. I do not have surround sound, and I am VERY pleased with the sound quality. Not a lot of bass, but it provides adequate sound at the very least. Feature-wise it isn't very deep, but it is very user friendly. I bought my TV one month ago, and I wanted to wait to write my review to make sure it was as good as it seemed. It is.

I spent a ton of time researching TVs and decided to go with a Plasma. After reading reviews on CNET and checking prices on Camel Buy, I determined this was the best for my budget. It is really a great Plasma. I got mine for $1000 and is worth every penny. This brand is running the market right now. If you are shopping for a new TV and have a cool $1000 to spare, you must buy.

Great deal, parents bout it for 979. Mounted it on a TV stand. Have Direct TV high def and looks great for watching the Panthers on Sunday. Easy to use and interactive menu display. No Veira iPod hook up or Youtube thing, but is still cool. Has dark blacks, and bright whites, looks great for sports and can't beat this TV for the price, the TV rivals 1,500 dollar TV's at least.

I saw the TV on sale (before the price increase) and purchased it for delivery.
I have to say, no such disappointment's so far. Picture quality is excellent, though it's precise looks are non-extravagant. The remote control could have been more stylish. Another issue was the delivery time was 4 hours late out of schedule. Other than that, The wait was worth when it arrived.

I went to the store to buy a HD TV,but i didn't know what was the diference:720 or 1080;LCD or PLASMA:the salesman explained to me everything i need to know to made my choice,i decided to get the PLASMA for too many reasons that we all know.I always used to buy SONY tv but this year i didn't find what i was looking with them,i switch to PANASONIC,i'm very satisfied with my purchased and all the features that i can get from this company ,also buy a home theater. Is true about the color going green,it happened to me one time only, but i fix it using a set up that was in one of this tv rewies.Any ways after that i disconect the tv from the output many time to install new features and the greenish tint never come back and setting now is like factory:default. If you buy this PLASMA you won't be dissapoiment.

Thats right 600hz sub-field only operates in Cinema mode. Its in fine-print on the Panasonic website. My 2nd plasma by Panasonic, first was a 42 EDTV. Got this one for Father's Day and was immediately disappointed, 1080 looked same if not a lil worse than the 480 EDTV. Got a Monster hdmi cable--improved somewhat. Got a Panamax 300 surge/line conditioner--improved somewhat. The overall problem I had was the amount of noise, the fuzziness was driving me crazy. Was ready to have Panny tech. come out to figure/fix until I stumbled upon Cnet's recommended picture settings and WOW!!! What a difference!!! Beautiful! Love it! Just mounted to the wall yesterday and Im a proud Papa. 1080 HD is very strong, colors are very rich, and the deep blacks rival any tv out there. The settings provided work in all situations and yes Im leaving it in Cinema mode to get the benefit of the 600hz. I was suprised at how low all the picture settings ended up being to achieve a perfect picture. Here is the link:

When you're looking for a great Plasma, look no further than Panasonic. Sony, Samsung and Vizio have nothing on these TVs. Panasonic has the richest colors and deepest blacks out there. They are also very reliable unlike their competitors. Also unlike Samsung, Panasonic's Contrast Ratios are true and not made up on paper. This is a truly remarkable TV. It's more energy efficient than any other Plasmas out there and is on par with LCDs when it comes down to that electric bill. Before this Plasma beauty I had a 50" Vizio which only lasted 2 years and then the video board stopped working. Vizios are basically junk TVs, once something goes wrong with it throw it away because it costs just as much as you paid for it to fix it. Overall the Panasonic 50" Plasma is a great choice for anyone, from videophiles to HDTV newcomers this TV will please all. Just remember one thing when setting the color and contrast levels make sure to turn off the ambient light mode. It's a mode that automatically adjusts

I bought this TV a couple of weeks ago. I had researched for months on which TV to buy and had decided on a 40' LCD, but when I got to the store, the picure quality on the plasma looked so much better than the LCD. I'm very happy with my purchase. I had been warned that plasmas give off a lot of heat and they were right. The room that my TV is in is much warmer than the rest of the house. I even had to turn on a small fan to cool off the room which is fairly large. The sound quality isn't the greatest, but the price makes this a great buy. I bought it on sale for $999. Make sure you buy the 1080p because you can't use blue ray on the 720p.

First off, I love this TV. It looks outstanding and the picture quality is top notch.
I had been trying to decide between this TV and the Samsung and had to go with this one once its price dropped down during the last sale. Delivery was on time, set up was super quick, and everything works great.
Only problem I ran into was that only the OTA signal supports Dolby surround sound out of the optical cable connection. All other HDMI audio comes out as either stereo or prologic when passed through the TV to the receiver. I had hoped to run all my HDMI and component signals into this TV and then have one connection into my receiver for audio. While it works, it's just not ideal. Especially since I use Dish network which has all their HD as DD5.1 I'll have to get another receiver with either HDMI or more than one optical input to suit the inner audiophile in myself.

Without a dought, this is as good as it gets when it comes to watching TV. I totaly love the color on the set. We arranged how we wanted our color to look like and the brightness which we toned down a bit and it is great. This is a BEST Buy!!!!!!!!!

I recently just got this tv at Sears for a tv/360 bundle they was doing for $999. Over all I'm happy with the tv. The picture quality is amazing with high def stuff compared to my old Samsung tv. Though my Samsung was great, it was starting to go after only 2 years. Cnet gave this tv (of different sizes) a good rating. Which I pretty much agree with. but they said that the 42" version had a greener tint to low def video (cable, dvd). Well the 50" version seems to have a red tint to it rather then a green tint. AS for features. Its pretty lacking in. This is a tv for those who just want to watch high def movies/tv. With no PC connection, you're having to connect your computer through the hdmi ports which can be a frustrating to do. The speakers sound quality is not that good. My old samsung had better ones. This is a tv you want to use surround sound with for just about everything. Over all I am happy with this tv for the price I paid for it.

We spent a lot of time researching and looking at LCD and LED tvs. Didnt bother with Plasmas because "the screens go bad quick and the have too much light reflection and unless you're in a dark room they aren't any good."
After a week of looking at LCD/LED tvs that just didnt impress us, set after set - even so far as to bring one home and watch it for a couple days - I said, "Let's just go look at a plasma." Long story short - and short is the key word here because it's only been three weeks - this is the best tv we've ever bought.

Well yeah, it does, and you can watch pretty much anything on this tv and not be disappointed with the sound.

For starters, I didnt rate the speakers on this TV. If you are buying a 50" tv and you dont have a great surround sound receiver, I think you are making a huge mistake! So, No review for the speakers. The picture on this TV is AMAZING! I'll do you a favor and save you a few hundred dollars! Don't bother with the calibration services offered by BestBuy! I bought this TV two weeks ago and can not be happier with it. I did a lot of research before making the purchase and for the price and size, you can't beat it. I replaced my Sony Bravia LCD with this one and honestly, it blows the Sony LCD away. Its not even close. I hesitated to buy plasma because of burn in but this TV doesn't show any sign (especially after I left the On Demand channel on all night after falling asleep with the TV on). Watching football on this TV is also amazing. Now when someone runs, I can still see them. With the LCD is was nothing but pixels running around a field. The blacks are deep, the color is bright and HD looks outstanding. The two windows in my living room do not really affect the picture during the day but at night some of my ceiling lights will put a glare on the picture. The sound is way better then any flat screen TV I've owned but if you need premium sound, just hook up a receiver.
I have not calibrated it yet because I can not find a site

Highly recommend this tv for a low-price, high-picture-quality tv. For the price, I cannot complain; however, if I had to say, the bad thing about this tv is that the picture isn't adjustable enough. In the settings menu, there are options that are grayed out, which is extremely annoying because as far as I know they just disabled the settings to try to get people to spend more to get the G10 series tv. I don't know how these things work exactly, so maybe it was a measure taken to cut costs and keep the price lower, but I don't see why they would include the options in the menu just to gray them out. Besides that, no grief at all with this tv. I'm pretty happy that it's also relatively energy efficient for a plasma tv.

This is a TV that a few months ago was 1499 and to be able to get it at 999 is first an amazing deal, but other than the price the TV looks great, has great sound, and has clean lines. Anyone looking for a great TV and deal this is one will not disappoint you at all!

I have been looking for a new main TV to replace my 2-year-old 42 inch Panasonic plasma for quite awhile, and for everything out there-LED, LCD, and projection-this TV is the best TV out there for the money!! LED is very nice, but still pricey (worth it if you have the money). I looked at all of Panasonic's 1080p plasmas this year, and this one made the most sence for my lifestyle! I spent only $999.99 for this TV and researched the Best Buy offered professional Calibration service and it really is worth it! I am waiting for my S1 to "break in" so the Geek Squad can come in and calibrate it! Blu-Ray (PS3), HD broadcasts and SD broadcast look amazing, and even as a computer monitor this TV is great! As for not having a PC (VGA) input, if you have a DVI out on your computer, that will convert to HDMI, and this TV has 3 HDMI inputs!
Panasonic also has a G10 and V10 models that are both amazing! The G10 was $400 more than the S1, and the V10 in Magnolia was the best picture I have

This is my 4th Panasonic Plasma. The other three are 42" 720 resolution and are excellent. They all have the low reflection screens and I can sit in a bright room and watch the TV without any reflection issues. This write up for this one is deceiving. It boasts an AR (anti reflective) feature but it is totally useless. Having said that, everything else about this TV is excellent. Do yourself a favor, check this one out in a store before you buy it.

I went back and forth over getting a new LCD or Plasma tv. My current set was a DLP. I kept seeing great reviews on this model, but in store it had kind of a dingy looking picture compared to most other sets i compared it to. Well a salesmen reminded me that most sets are infinitly adjustable, and that they just take them out of the box and plug them in. I went looking to buy a samsung due to a little bit brighter picture. The Samsung ended up not being available until November, so i went with the Panasonic which was in stock, and on sale. First, i don't think anyone will be impressed with the standard picture setting. Like i mentioned earlier, its a dingy, dull screen. However on "Cinema" or "Custom" setup, this picture is night and day brighter and more colorful. At these settings, this tv rivals anything out there. At the moment, i'm running CNET's calibrated setup. Not sure if i will leave it there as it's a litle darker than "cinema" or "custom" factory settings. But since the

The Panasonic TC-P50-S1 is an amazing TV, especially for a thousand bucks! Tremendous picture. The only thing I would highly recommend is that you do the 100 hour burn-in, and then have BB Geek Squad come out and calibrate the TV. The color accuracy is SO much better and it took away the slight greenish tint the TV had. If you're looking for a TV though, do yourself a favor and get a Panasonic plasma. You will not find a better picture for a fair price!

this is a very tv for $999. I replaced a 3 year old projection tv. I didn't need another tv but this one for only $999 it was a no brainer. Picture is very very good(it is just as good as any I've seen for a lot more money). Has everything anyone could want all for a grand. Go get it if you can find one. I had to drive across town to get mine.

I bought this tv when it was a part of a package, tv and home entertainment center for $1300 (tv 1099 and entertaiment 199). Best money spent. Hooked up both 360 and ps3 using the hdmi connections and the wii using the component. Looks good, and have absolutely no complaints. Audio could be a little better but for the price, can't really complain.

The S1 series is the cheapest NeoPDP display available right now. It is awesome. I love it. The screen is so awesome I give it 5 stars even though it has two flaws- 1) The speakers are tinny as hell. But if you are serious about a screen like this you get a sound system to go with it. 2) The remote is maddening. Response is spotty and/or laggy.

My old projection HDTV died and I needed to replace it, so I started doing the research. I learned that plasmas have a better picture quality than LCD, and that Panasonic makes the best Plasma displays (now that Pioneer is not making them). I liked this set because of it's 1080 moving lines of resolution, contrast ratio, refresh ratio and for the quality of the plasma display. I looked at this set at the stores, and to my surprise it looked dull and less sharp than the Samsungs it was hung next to. After tweaking the settings of the set (it had been set to the factory default). I saw it could be set bright, like the other sets. The Samsung also looked sharper, but after closely watching the sets for about an hour, I noticed the Panasonic had better depth of detail, while the Samsung only had edge detail which stood out. The Samsung increases contrast and sharpens the edges which at first looks good, but provides an unnatural looking image for normal viewing. In the end, the Panasonic

Short and sweet:
My family loves this tv! So far there really isn't anything that we don't like other than it gives off quite a bit of heat after having it on for a long period of time, but we use this tv as our main tv and it gets a lot of use. HD channels look great, DVD's look great, BLue Rays look great, PS2 games looks great, sound quality is very good. Haven't tried the SD card option yet, but I would probably not use it. So far, no problems.
I think that there is a certain number of everything in production that will give off some lemons - an item with a problem. Perhaps the people who have purchased this and had problems just got a lemon. If you get a lemon, just return it! Best Buy has a great return policy, 30 Days for whatever reason! And no, I don't work for Best Buy.

Perhaps the people who have purchased this and had problems just got a lemon. If you get a lemon, just return it! Best Buy has a great return policy, 30 Days for whatever reason! And no, I don't work for Best Buy.

After the hard sales pitch by the Best Buy saleman and the great reviews on this website I thought how could I go wrong with this TV. Unfortunately after it was delivered today, I plugged it in and nothing. All I got was a blinking red light. After doing some internet searching and going to Panasonic's website, I found out this isn't uncommon for Panasonic plasmas. In fact, this issue is the #1 FAQ on Panasonic's website. The troubleshooting which consists of unplugging and plugging back in did nothing. And of course the service centers are all closed within an hour of the TV being delivered. Really was looking forward to this TV after the great reviews this set and Panasonic gets, but I think I'll be going back to Sony.

This 50" S1 has the same identicle panel as the G10 model, for $200 less. The S1 model is easily the best bang for the buck as it's PDP panel can handle 1080p lines of moving resolution(stay away from the U1 series, as it handles only 900), it has perfect color accuracy, amazing black levels, and it's 600mhz subfield blows the covers off 120/240hz LCD's for HD gaming(360/PS3).
This is the perfect 50" set for the lowest of cost, hands down, as everything you can wish for a flat panel is here, from full 1080p(still and moving), to perfect colors, to amazing black levels, to being an ideal gamers HDTV, with it's 600Hz.
The speakers are not great, but then again what flat panel has great speakers? lol
This is one amazing HDTV in terms of Picture quality and a superb gamers HDTV as well.

I have purchased Panasonic for all my electronics for years. This is my second plasma tv purchase in a year. I didn't replace the first one. I replaced an older 42" rear projection tv (Panasonic of course) I had the rear projection for 6 1/2 years with no issues, no service needed. I wanted something a bit bigger and also with a smaller living room I wanted to take up less space then the bulky older rear projection. It is a beautiful television, I bought it in a package deal with surround sound and a blu-ray player. After hooking up everything with HDMI cables it is a perfect system. The family plays the Wii on it (still worried about the 5 year old hitting it with the remote). Also regarding my other Panasonic purchases, 3 previous rear projections tvs, 2 plasma tvs, 5 surround sound systems (1st was 16 years ago and it still works) 3 DVD players, 2 VCR's, a microwave, and a phone system. I have never had any issues with any of the products.

Although it is susceptible to burn in it has a scrolling bar that makes the burnt in image disappear in about 5 minutes. The images look crisp and sports look amazing and not blurry at all. If you play video games there is a GAME display that looks brighter. Careful though because the HUD can sometimes be burnt in. Luckily there's the scrolling bar. It is a great TV.

I was going to buy a Sony LCD 46", but then saw this Plasma TV. Without a doubt on the picture quality, contrast ratio, refresh rate, and best of all... biggest bang for the buck I paid. Compare to regular LCD, this will out perform any of it class. Tried on with blu-ray, AWESOME! Also, I was watching couple high-def channel, flawless. No motion blur, very deep black on and high contrast (tested on The Mummy movie). I bought this along with the surround sound package deal for $1,300. Can't beat Best Buy on this one. Get it before the sale is over. Highly recomended!!!

I must say this is one of the best flat panels on the market, I work for a cable company and I see a lot of brands. I would have to rank this flat panel right there with Samsung for picture quality.

I had to take 3 Samsung Tv's back to Best Buy in the last three months.... needless to say i was getting tired of hauling those big tvs. So they cut me a package deal with this S1, surround sound, and a wall mount for $1300!!
So far this tv has been the best i have owned!! Even nicer than the Samsung LED series, (one of the tv's i had to take back) The leds color was way off, too unrealistic, like Sharps lcd's. This tv has amazing black depth and detail. The color is spot on with a few out of the box adjustments. The screen isnt very reflective and i have a light about three feet away from it!!
This Plasma is amazing for sports just watched the first pre-season game on it and all i can say is WOW!!!! The 600hz makes a huge difference over any lcd tv whether it be 120 or 240hz! If you can catch this tv on sale go for it!!! Its the same tv as the g-10 just without the internet!

Just got this TV today so can't attest to durability yet, but I have to say this TV works great and looks even better.
Also the two Geek Squaders who came out to install (had it delivered) were very knowledgeable and efficient.
The picture quality is amazing, especially with the HD channels. Will try the Blu-ray player tonight!
Got this baby on sell for $1300, great value. I would definitely recommend this product.

I am very happy that this tv was recommended by my salesman. I was on a strict budget and thought I would be getting a much less quality tv. I've since hooked it up to HD directv and home theater and I am blown away by the quality.

I compared and contrasted LCD and Plasma TV's and decided on an LCD until I saw this baby. For the price, I can guarantee you won't get a better deal. I've been super happy with mine so far, and trust me the sound isn't THAT bad. The only thing is that it is a plasma so it has a glass filter that sometimes reflects lights when directly on the TV. Buy it!!

I am a shopper and researched for about 3 months, started out only looking at LCD with the Samsung, LG and Sony being my brands of choice. Then started noticing how nice the image quality was and smoothness of fast motion on the Panasonic plasma screens. I also looked at the HIGH end Pioneer Elite and they are AWESOME but out of my price range. After a few trips to the Magnolia room and TV floor I narrowed down my list to just 3 models the Panasonic 46G10 the 46S1 and Sony 52-V LCD and after some hard study I decided on the less expensive S1 and don't regret my purchase at all! We don't have any glare and even can watch TV with the kitchen florescent light on with no problems. I did tone down the contrast and after a month or two am going to get it professionally calibrated to get the most out of the screen.

This tv uses Panasonic's 12th generation panel called Neo-PDP. What that means is that the picture is exceptionally bright and saturated, and that the tv draws 40% less power than last years models. That means that power consumption is now on par with many LCD's in this size range. I purchased this TV after 6 months of searching and couldn't be happier. In a brightly lit room, the picture is bright and vivid. Watching movies in the dark, the blacks are so black. It's unreal, I've never seen blacks this dark. To get blacks as good on a comparable lcd, you would need an lcd tv with local dimming -- and to get that you'll pay 3 times as much. The native contrast ratio is 40,000:1. That's native contrast! You won't find many lcd's that have this native contrast ratio. The dynamic contrast ratio is 1 million:1. The viewing angles are exceptional. From the extreme right or left, the colors are just as vivid and beautiful as they are from the center seated position. This is not true

I owned a 50" Samsung DLP that was non-repairable and got this as a replacement TV only 2 days ago. It came highly recommended by very knowledgable sales rep, whom I dealt with many times before. The picture is incredible, and very life like. Blu-Ray on this set is absolutley mind- blowing. The sound is okay for regular viewing, but I use my surround system for movies, so no big deal. The TV looks like a more expensive set, and the quality is great. I was never a fan of Plasma,i.e., too hot, burn-in, reflection, and more....... but after doing research, and with newer technology, Plasma is the way to go. For those of you debating between Plasma and LCD, take the Plasma road. And to be safe, I purchased another warranty; the first warranty got me this TV, and just in case........ Buy the Panny now and enjoy.

I had a 52" DLP for the last 5yrs. I decided to take a chance on the 50" Panasonic...This was the best investment I could have ever made!!! I picture quality is amazing!!! The PS3 LOOKS GREAT, and I really see the difference in the upconvert. The sound quality isn't the greatest, but I knew that coming in, so I went ahead and purchased some surround sound. Definitely the best bang for your buck. Best Buy service was GREAT. Free Reward zone points and 36 months NO INTEREST!!! You can't beat it. Also recommend getting the calibration. Extends the Life of your plasma and it doesn't run as hot. $300 for the calibration, a little expensive, but worth it.

This TV was rated highly by a leading consumer magazine. Reviews on this site were favorable. I am very picky so I'll break down the likes and dislikes:
A brief history: I had a Sony 36" XBR. The set was great, however the tube went out after a brief 8 year run. When looking for new TVs I was very interested in the LED technology, but the cost and value at this time was not condusive.
LIKES: Terrific picture. Sports look amazing (Baseball, tennis and golf thus far. Can't wait till football!) Great detail, image and clarity. Very, very sharp picture. Movies are also amazing, especially with Blue Ray technology. Highly recommend rolling your favorite sci-fi movie on this. Very impressive. Satellite TV looks great. Sound on TV is fine. The volume is consistant when watching programs or during commercials (A feature I've had on other TVs, but was missing on my last TV). Size of TV is great for the room. I was debating on a larger set, but am very happy with the dimensions

I am not a tech junkie, but I like to buy solid products for good value. I went back and forth on whether to go with an LCD or Plasma since I have a very bright room, but I have no regrets after going with this plasma. The glare is not at all as bad as I expected and is not a distraction at all. I got 4 more inches and paid $400 less than I would have for a comparable LCD. Also, the picture looks 10x better at home than it does in the store. I would buy this set again in a heartbeat. The only criticism I have for this TV is that there are very few picture adjustment settings that you can make. I'm not too concerned about that though, but I'm sure other people would be.

The picture on this set is very close to real life. The viewer can distinguish between different levels of black and white. The default picture settings ran a little red, but the adjustable settings, however limited, were able to correct this with little effort.
I have an up-converting DVD player, PS2 and 1080i cable box hooked up and the picture quality is great no matter the source. The SD signals are not as good as the HD signals but the picture is better than on a non-HD TV.
The sound is decent for a TV. I don't have a surround sound system but the speakers do an adequate job. The sound level is fairly even between inputs and the bass/treble balance is also adequate. Unfortunately, there is no internal equalizer.
The not so good features are the remote control and the limited customizable features. The positioning of the remote buttons leaves something to be desired, especially the VIERA link buttons, which are right above the arrow keys, so they can easily be pushed instead

Awesome TV and great buy from Best Buy. This TV has it all 1080p, THX sound, and 40,000:1 native contrast ratio for great picture colors. I'm impressed is has 20w speakers and 3 HDMI outputs very useful. Had in parent’s home for over 2 years now with no problem at all and brings up a conversation as to wow that's a good looking TV.

This is my second plasma tv and i love it. I know people that have an lcd and there field of view is limited where as i can see mine from anywhere in the room. I have the panasonic blu-ray 7.1 sourround sound system hooked up to and i love how when i turn on my tv it turns on my souround sound as well. This tv is a great tv and when you have another panasonic product hooked up to it, it makes it even better. I also love how that when i put a blu-ray movie in my player or any movie it will automatically change both my tv and souround to the right channels and how when i am done watching movies on my player and i change channels on my tv then my sourround system will change to the proper souround channel as well. It is also great how i don't even have to turn on my souround system at all cause when i turn my tv on or off it will automaticaly turn off my souround sound system. If you are going to get a souround sounds sytem and you have this tv i would recomend getting a panasonic souround

This is an excellent TV that offers a lot for its price. The picture is excellent, but sometimes the color tends to go to the green side. I have it connected to a blue-ray and the contrast is impressive. The remote control is not very functional, having these big Viera buttons right above the navigation arrows, making them very easy to press by mistake.
Overall, this is a great TV and a great value for your money. A perfect balance between price and quality image. Highly recommended.

I bought this TV last week and had it installed on my wall by the Geek Squad. The picture is great, with much better contrast than the 32" Sharp LCD TV it replaced. Just that since I was used to the brightness on the LCD, I needed to make some adjustments to get the picture right where I wanted it. But after making the adjustments and getting used to reduced brightness after a couple of days, the picture looks GREAT!! Blu-Rays are especially great even if it is a cheap player like my Memorex one. SD is OK but HD is stunning. It's also great to play sports games on the Wii, especially when it is mounted on the wall. Sound is adequate but it is best to connect to a home theater receiver, which I did. Features are pretty basic but more than adequate to display stunning HD, and you can view pictures from an SD card.

I've been using the S1 for almost a month now and absolutely love it. It has a beautiful, realistic picture that is perfect for video gaming and Blurays. It may not have quite the 'pop' of an LCD, but I much prefer the look of a plasma with it's improved accuracy and uniform picture. I'm coming from a 34" Sony XBR970 - which itself is a very accurate set - but this Panasonic has made me a convert. It's plasma from here on out (or as long as they keep making them I suppose). Of course one of my concerns before purchasing this set was burn in. I do a large amount of gaming and letterboxed movie watching, and I didn't want to have to be constantly worrying about damaging my set. Well, I've been gaming on this thing since day 1 - many of which have static HUDs - and I have yet to see even the mere hint of image retention. Same goes for letterboxes, they leave absolutely no lingering image. I play 360 and PS3 on the Game picture setting and movies on Cinema - both of which have their contrast

This is my first HD tv, I went from a 10 year old 27" CRT that we won so it wasn't a great tv we had to begin with. I got the HD box from my service provider and can only say "why did I wait so long to go HD" I love the clarity of the shows and movies in HD, the SD channels look better on this tv than my old CRT which I was worried about as I read this was a problem for some set. the sound is better now, so I shouldn't complain but its a little dull and needs more pop, but a surround set-up is my next purchase at BB for this set.
I am disappointed because I paid close full price for mine 6 days ago and its on sale now for $200 less than I paid, guess ill run over to BB and see if I can get a refund?,
Buy, Buy, Buy it I say :)

Picture is amazing, especially in HD. When I first got this TV, I didn't have an HDMI cable, so, my sound was horrible. After I bought a HDMI cable, it not only doubled the volume of my sound, but it also increased the quality of my already awesome picture. This was my first Plasma, so I am overwhelmed, especially after hearing all the negative remarks about Plasma televisions. Panasonic is the way to go, if you are looking into Plasma. I had to choose between Sony Bravia and Panasonic. Guess what I chose, as you see. AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!!!!!!!!! You must purchase one, you won't be dissapointed.

Amazing technology, service and center. I cannot say enough about the training of the staff including the Geek squad. And cudos to the management team that always helped and were available. Your employees are warm, friendly and far better that anyoiher store I have been in.l Prompt and very curtious. And each and every one was tremendously informed regarding the rewards program and all of the products. They actually helped me in store sign up for the rewards program. I no longer shop at anyother technology sstore.

If you want the best in picture, sound, features, etc., etc......buy this Panasonic. You cannot beat the picture of this TV. I was amazed how much a difference the surround mode was as well. You normally don't think about sound quality in TV's because that's what a surround sound system is for, but I was very impressed with what I heard when turning that feature on. The SD card slot is very convenient and a much easier feature to use than sitting 3 feet away from the TV with your camera in your hand when you come home to view your photos. I just got HD DishNetwork as well and WOW...huge difference from standard satellite. This TV produces true colors, deep blacks, depth, and quality no matter what you are watching. I haven't seen blu-ray on it yet but I have no doubts that it will be amazing! The ONLY negative I have about this model is that the base doesn't swivel and with my setup...being between two audio piers.....I have to pull out TV stand and TV to get at the SD card slot rather

I purchased this TV back in March and have been holding off on the review until the TV was properly broken in (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1128487 -- the first parargraph in the first post is the procedure) then calibrated to my liking. I must say I have been very pleased with the time I have spent with it. I was a bit worried when I read the CNET review about the color inaccuracy, but I think mine looks great. The picture is crystal clear and motion is smooth. Blu-Rays on the PS3 look awesome. While watching all the dark scenes in Spiderman 3, I can easily make out the details in the shadows and black clothing. This set really handles black well. I also have no complaints looking at flesh tones and whites. All the colors are vibrant and look spot on. My primary TV is a Sharp Aquos I purchased 3 years ago, and this set blows it away for half the price I spent on the Sharp. I think that people are really pushing the G10 series and that is fine, but for $200

I have had a plasma since before it became so affordable, my first TV was a Pioneer Elite, which is now 3 years old. I bought the 50" Panny as a basement TV, I am satisfied with it, and unless there is a way to tweak the colors on it satisfied is about all I will ever be with it. It's not as great as a 5 star review would have you believe. The TV has virutually no adjustability of the picture, no gamma, no greyscale which stinks because the factory settings aren't natural looking, too green and too red. I have literally A/B'd this TV next two my 3 year old 720P capable Pioneer Elite Plasma technology and there is no comparison, NONE. I would have thought the newer technology would look better. But alas even the 3 year old Pioneer (with much lower refresh rates) looks much better, way more natural, flesh tones are the best example. Even my wife clearly notices it.
I would say this about this TV, and this is coming from someone who has quite a few years with Plasma technology. This is

Bought this TV one week ago. We originally went to buy the 42" Panasonic Plasma, but the deal being offered on this TV was too good to pass up. Not that much more for much more TV. Set up was extremely easy and the picture was amazing from the begining. We have an HD cable box and just needed to make the appropriate settings on the TV and now we're watiching incredible HD picture. The menu and is very easy to use. The sound capability is impressive. We plan to get surround sound but there's no hurry because it's so good already. PS3 looks amazing on this thing. If you can afford a couple hundred more bucks then this is really the TV to get. There shouldn't be many bad reviews for this baby!

I received my Panasonic VIERA S1 p50I plasma 3 days ago. I now have it hooked up. I was VERY nervous about making this purchase. Very expensive and on-line ordering. ALL my fears were for nothing. This is a FANTASTIC set and it arrived from 6ave in great condition & on the FIRST day promised. I was impressed.
The picture quality is amazing. I did a LOT of research before purchasing this set. I read reviews, I talked to others that had a Panasonic, I even went to "Best Buy" (terrible experience) and compared this set to many others, and a few other electronic stores. It did look better that most other sets but I wasn't sure if it was worth that much more. I have to say now it was worth it. Especially since buying it online I got a better price than the less expensive models. I think the need for more adjustments to the picture is a bit overrated. The settings that are available do just fine.

I have been researching for the past 6 months for a Plasma TV. There are several reasons why I choose this one. The price was a great value for a 1080P Plasma. I paid $[...] shipped. In my research I found that more people were generally happier with Panasonic brand and had a great picture. When I finally hooked up this TV I was amazed. The blacks are great and the colors are superb and this is out of the box. I cannot wait to get this TV calibrated and have an even better picture. I firmly believe any who purchases this TV will not be disappointed. The TV itself looks sleek and the connections in the back are well thought out. Did I say how great the picture is? :)
If I had to say anything negative, that there are not enough options to calibrate the colors and picture. However that isn't a big deal if you are willing to go into the service menu and make a few tweaks. Please note that doing so could void warranties so either hire a professional to do it or research the TV online for calibration

This tv is great! I have been researching tvs for over a year to find the right one. I read all of the professional reviews (cnet) and this is the tv that I decided on. I was on a budget, I am a college student who does a lot of gaming and blu-ray watching. I am extremely picky about picture quality and this tv delivers an amazing picture! This blows nearly all LCD tv's out of the water. I was not going to get a plasma to begin with because of the supposed "image retention" which I have yet to notice. I am extremely glad that I got a Panasonic Plasma. The blacks are so deep, it almost looks as though the tv is off when the screen is black. The deep blacks make the colors pop! I have watched a number of blu-rays and played a couple of hours of games and I am in love already. I highly recommend this tv to everyone. It is an extremely good deal. Any LCD for this size would be much more expensive and have a much lower picture quality. Also for those of you deciding between the G10 and this

I decided on the P50S1 after about 250 hours of daily HDTV research for the past 3 or 4 months, in which I debated everything from plasma vs. LCD to screen size to features to ease of use to durability.
The 2009 Panasonic plasmas use the new "Neo-PDP" panels, which I can tell you personally having lifted both are much lighter than an equal size 2008 model plasma. The manual prudently warns against a single person lifting the set, but I did so myself with no problem.
This model was initially sold on Amazon at the initial MSRP of $1799, but has now dropped to a street price of under $1400 one month after being released. Placed my order on Wednesday the 8th, scheduled delivery for the following Wednesday the 15th. Was very surprised to get a phone call from Amazon's freight carrier, CEVA, asking if they could deliver the TV on the 11th. Four days early, and on a Saturday no less. The CEVA driver carried the box into my apartment, unpacked it, let me inspect the TV, assembled the stand, put

I just bought the Model: TC-P50S1 two days ago. Went home and had it running within 20 minutes. I bought a wooden stand for it and that took almost two hours to put together. The picture looks 10 times better at home. When I first turned it on I only had basic cable and the picture was still GREAT. Now I have HD cable and even better. I did not buy the step up model because I will never use the ethernet connection for VIERA CAST (IPTV) functionality which lets you enjoy great online entertainment via the built-in Web menu with just the click of a button. So I saved a couple of hundred bucks. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS T.V., my son and daughter are excited because we are planning to watch WrestleMania this weekend. YAHOO !

The value you get for the price of this tv is second to none. I just recently put this tv in my house replacing an old rear projection tv and i am amazed at its color accuracy. I did find my self making a few tweeks from the factory settings but once you get it to where you like the picture you'll fall in love. Sports and movies shine on this set. I preferred the plasma over the lcd because the movement on the tv was much more natural than the 120hz lcd displays. I sell T.V.s at sears and after being around both for a while I find the plasma image much easier and natural to look at. I chose Panasonic because they seem to have mastered the plasma technology and even a Samsung rep told me that he preferred Panasonic's plasma to Samsungs plasma. I will admit to liking some of the new Sony's coming out and the new LED tv is really cool but you cant touch those televisions at this price point. I kind of wish I had waited for the G10 seeing as it came in at such a close price difference but

I'M A BIT CONFUSED WITH THE REVIEW THAT SAID AFTER FOUR MONTHS THE TV WENT OUT. AS THIS PARTICULAR TV HAS NOT BEEN OUT FOR FOUR MONTHS...THIS IS A FABULOUS PLASMA WITH AN ADJUSTMENT CALLED "VIVID" THAT WILL GIVE YOU THE BRIGHT LCD LOOK TOO...I PREFER THE WARM PLASMA LOOK...PURCHASED TO REPLACE A SAMSUNG LCD THAT WAS UNDER A YEAR OLD...THE SCREEN MAGICALLY CRACKED EVEN THOUGH THE TV HAS NEVER BEEN MOVED..TECH SAID HE COULD NOT FIND THE POINT OF IMPACT...THATS BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ONE...BY THE WAY APPARENTLY NOBODY WILL WARRENTY A CRACKED LCD SCREEN AND THEY CAN CRACK ALL BY THEMSELVES EASILY......I'LL STICK TO PLASMA..2ND ONE.....THIS PANASONIC IS FABULOUS...BY ALL ACCOUNTS...

this tv has amazing picture quality and sound. it has just about anything one could ask for from a plasma. and the 600 hz is awesome, i run call of duty WAW on it and no lag at all! beautiful display. my only gripe that would keep this baby from having everything is the fact that it lacks a pc input. but thats not a big deal, especially if your laptop or pc has an hdmi slot, because that works alternatively.
p.s. the reviewer below me doesnt know what he is talking about.. this tv set JUST came out at the end of feb. look at the date on it (google it or check panasonic's website) there is no way he could have had it for 5 months, i thnk the guy rated the wrong tv set, because the whole description was pretty far off IMO.

This is one great TV. Im not sure either what that persons talking about because this is a brand new model that just came out. Theres no way someone had it 5 months ago. Either way panasonic is definatly the leading brand in Plasma Tvs so again im not to sure what ur talking about. Anyway back to the review this TV met all my expectations. My Xbox360 looks awesome blu-rays looks awesome and my new HD cable box looks awesome. Extremely easy to navigate the menus and set everything up the way u want it. Never had a plasma or LCD but im glad i went plasma because the picture is so vivid. I have this TV in my bedroom and everytime i walk in im glad i bought it. So if ur on the edge about purchasing it trust me just do it ull be glad

The tv's picture quality is amazing! I have had other Panasonic tvs in the past and this is by far one of the best I have ever owned. I have never had an issue with mine and I am not sure how someone can have issues with this tv for four months when it just came out a month ago? I was a little confused by that. Overall this is a great tv and I would recommend this tv to any man, woman, or child.

Yes. I like others loved my new Panasonic Plasma TV when I first got it. It worked great. Then after 4-1/2 months it died. When I searched the internet just a bit, I found that I made a big mistake buying a Panasonic Plasma TV. They have been known to have a high failure rate since 2004. Just google the phrase "panasonic"+"plasma"+"blinking" and you will find lots of info on this. After just a few months mine died and all I got was the power LED blinking several times, a pause, LED blinking several times, etc. Having bought the warentee, I thought this be a simple process; but they are still making trips here to replace boards and then order more, etc, etc. It's been a month and one half since I first called. Run Away from buying a Panasonic Plasma as fast as you can. Buy an LCD or maybe a plasma of another brand. Just don't make the same mistake I did.

This TV comes ready out of the box. It has such a perfect picture; you won’t need to change a thing. I only had it for a couple of hours and I can’t stop watching TV.

WOW! I just got this tv home, from exchanging a Sammy 46" LCD 650,and the picture is awesome.I had to write this posting.Without adjusting 1 setting the picture of my Sony PS3 and Pioneer BDP-09 blu ray's with The Wild is incredible!
My 46" Sammy 650 I would have to max, adjust every setting to come close.
So far I'm am very,very surprised a 50" Plasma $1800.
Thanks Best Buy!
