Good Buy, $799 on sale, replaced my 42 Sony vega RP LCD.
8in size makes a big difference for my mid sized room. 720p picture is great with an HD signal, very clear and crisp.

I researched this product a lot before buying. I read the manual in detail from the panasonic website. I like Panasonic products; I myself still have a panasonic tube tv, vcr and dvd player that work perfectly after 8 years of daily use. While this plasma is a good unit overall, here is a word of warning. if any of your tv channels are in the 4:3 format, a sidebar will show and image retention or burn-in will result. same happens when watching a movie dvd - horizontal bars appear. The manual clearly says so on page 45 - "Note that Image retention of the side bar may occur from displaying it for a long time". So apparently, the burn-in problem with plasmas is not solved, but minimized using features like pixel orbiting and screensavers. This is a problem for those who watch a lot of international TV channels, most of which are not in HD and thus will display in 4:3. This means to avoid burn-in when watching these channels you must set the Format setting to Full resulting in everything appearing

Purchased a 42" Panasonic plasma at Best Buy last year for more than the cost of this 50". I've research it all...720p vs. 1080p...plasma vs. LCD...brand vs. brand. That's why the Panasonic TC-P50X1 50" 720p Plasma HDTV wins at this price...no contest. Panasonic leads the industry in plasma technology. The picture quality is excellent and no one can tell the difference between a 720p and 1080p. If they say they can...they lie. If you think a 1080p LCD HDTV is what you need then pay double the price. In my opinion and countless other buyers, tech heads, and experts say it's a waste of money. I bought it for $687 and change. Go for it and enjoy...I am.

The picture is unbelievable. I thought that it would be ok, because the price was so low, but it blew me away. I am very happy with this product, totally exceeded expectations. Even non-HD looks pretty good, but the HD is perfect.

Had to replace our 50" rear projection Toshiba which cost us about $1500 with this 50" wide screen plasma. Years ago plasma was out of sight expensive. Now this 720p HD wide screen cost us just over half of the original big screen tv. I hooked up an hd over the air antenna and the picture is fantastic. I won't pay for the extra for hd digital from Directv but the standard digital picture is, while not up the standards of hd, still very good. Better than the Toshiba I replaced and good enough for most stuff. The Toshiba was an HD tv, at 1080i and this 720p is better, which you'd expect. At about 10 feet away the picture is very, very good. The set with an upgrade dvd has a wonderful picture. I'm not sure why you'd pay more for a tv. Maybe you're a videophile. Maybe so. For my money, this set by Panasonic is a great value with a no compromise picture. It is true that the set's sound needs to be supplemented if you want great sound with your movies. I recommended Panasonic and this 720p 50"

This was my first flat screen TV purchase. I entered the research knowing nothing about LCDs or Plasmas and came out knowing, probably, more than I needed. Overall, this is the best quality TV I found for the money. My choices were Sony Bravia, Sharp Aquos and Samsung. I decided that I really did not care for 120hz, since I do not watch any live television (sports or concerts). I also came to the conclusion that I did not need the 1080p technology, since the difference was minimal. The picture on the Panasonic is simply fabulous. It's very sharp, the colors are fantastic and the black is super deep. The only complaint I have is that I wish the "Energy Star" logo was on the back instead of the bottom left corner.

Great TV, great picture, and great refresh rate. Dont waste your time with 1080P...you only get the benefits on movies and video games if played thru a blue-ray or PS3. All standard cable and satelite feeds are 1080i, which is even supported by all tv's including yours truely!!!

Has better quality than my friends' 1080P TVs. Amazing refresh rate when watching live sports in HD. Nothing bad to say about it! Much superior to LCD. The best HDTV we've owned. (Just watch for burn-in. This TV has great burn-in protection, but don't leave anything on pause for too long, it is a plasma, not an LCD)

Well it happened, even panasonic had not heard of this . 2 day's after purchase I tried the sd card from my digital camera , After formating the card, before it went all the way in, the tv quit. Power red light kept blinking , rebooted, pressed power button for long and short intervals, nothing. Hey .... Happens is the way I look at it . I went back got another one, no problem ,almost exchanged for samsung but could not do it . I love the picture , plasma is better. I would still totally recommend it. The only thing is a digital out for reciever's. But they do sell digital to rca plugs. Just wanted to pass this along since other reviews helped my choice. Also I got this tv for 779.00, real hard to beat that....

Let's face it, if you're hooking up a a blu-ray player, cable or sattelite box to this TV, you're going to do it via HDMI cable, which carries video and AUDIO signal from the box to the TV. If you're hooking up a home theatre A/V receiver, you wil be listening through the Home Theatre speakers, and not through the TV, otherwise, why even hook up the receiver?
Picture will not be as crisp as 1080P, but unless you're sitting within 8 ft of it, you won't notice the difference in resolution.

I purchased this plasma at a Best Buy store for $799. I had purchased a Magnovox 25" console with PIP for $699 in 1991. What a difference $100 and 18 years can make!
Make sure your stereo receiver has an optical audio input since the TV doesn't have regular audio outputs. A converter can be purchased however it's $67.

Did a lot of research and this tv was the best buy for the money. I am very pleased with it. Very easy to set up and mount. Dvd's look fantastic! Picture quality while watching a dvd is SHARP. TV picture quality is very good, but not as good at dvd.
I've already recommended this item to a friend!

After having researched flat panel televisions for well over a year, I decided it was at last time to take the plunge. As I am on a pretty strict budget, I didn't have a whole wad of money at my disposal so I went comparative shopping at Best Buy and other big box stores to see the latest and greatest models and to scope out the sales. It just so happened that this model was brand new from Panasonic and had just arrived the previous day. The store had put it on display that very morning! What luck that I didn't have to call all around the city to find one on display (as is sometimes the case with new models). As Panasonic is well-known for the quality of their plasma televisions, my interest was piqued! I was totally impressed with the overall appearance of the set as well as with its numerous features. Mulitple HDMI connections as well as the normal composite, component and optical connections enable it to compete with higher end and higher dollar sets.

Bought this TV around the 4th of July sale from Amazon for $797 including shipping. Excellent price for a great TV. As one of the other reviewers mentioned it takes a few days for the picture to settle in and once it does its flawless. This is a very good buy for the price and I highly reccomend this TV even at the now higher price. No complaints. The delivery from Pilot was very prompt (in fact delivered ahead of time) and professional. Overall, a very good experience.

We researched flat screens for many months and kept coming back to this one. As antenna users, a 1080p is a waste of money since 720p is the best you can get. Even if we had cable, the difference in picture quality we saw in store wouldn't be worth the extra money. The sound system could be better, but we don't feel like we are missing out on much. Set up was a breeze - including using the handles built into the package. After watching TV on a set that was growing dimmer by the day, we feel like we are seeing a new movie when we watch an old DVD! For an entry level TV, this one is a great item at a wonderful price. We lucked into the $797 sale and bought it on the spot. So far, not a single regret.

Upgraded from a Panasonic 42-inch to this 50-inch beauty. Great picture and nice audio and to top it off, a price of $797 (sorry it's $999 now)..it was a steal last Friday, July 3. I paid more for my 42-in.
Set-up was fairly quick and easy. This is only 720p and would have to pay extra for the 1080p model without gaining anything. You would see a slight difference between the 720p and 1080p when viewing up close but who does that for a 50-incher.
Initial set-up got me thinking why I do not have audio while playing CD on my blu-ray player while the TV is OFF. Audio is audible only when TV is ON (you do not want it when listening to music only). Found out that the Viera link is ON by default. Switched it OFF and everything is fine.
Extremely happy with the purchase.

I have had this TV for a little over a month and I love it. Its a great looking design and the stand is very sturdy. The only thing I noticed was that regular cable tv is a little grainy but I mostly watch HD, which is very vivid on this tv and the colors are amazing.

Found out there were software upgrades needed for our Panasonic TV after purchase. TV lasted less than 1.5 years. Did not buy it at BestBuy!! Panasonic customer support was less than desirable, but they were more than happy to direct us to a service center whom wanted $800 to repair tv.

I purchased this set after months of research. I was so set on lcd that i was almost in tunnel vision mode went i was shopping. then talking to more and more people and reading forums i started to open my eyes. I went into best buy one day and saw this perticular model and couldnt believe how clear and natural the picture looked. the blacks were black and the colors were just amazing. then I noticed its only a 720p model. i almost didnt buy it but they had the 1080p model right next to it and i have to be honest with you, i couldnt tell the differance.I am a big time gamer and movie buff and this plasma tv has made all my movies sd and hd as well as ps3 games look fantastic. the price i paid plus the 4 year geek squad i had $$$$ left over for other things. this is deffinetly the bet buy for the buck. dont be like how i was and get caught in the whole LCD is the way to go. buy plasma!!!!! you will not regret it. If there were any cons to this set it would be it needs to have more picture

First and foremost, this tv is quite excellent. There's no motion artifacts whatsoever in the picture. The 720p resolution is perfect for me. Obviously, there aren't as many picture adjustments as say an xbr series from sony, but they'll suffice for the average consumer. The card reader for photos is quite useless as its slow. There is the usual buzzing sound but its quite inaudible from a distance. Pilot freight delivery was excellent and prompt. What's leaving a sour taste in my mouth is that we bought the tv for about a hundred bucks more than we had to. I thought i'd just reiterate to everybody that Amazon has discontinued its price guarantee policy meaning if the price drops, even a day after delivery, they will not refund the difference. Of course, this helps profit on their end, but most retailers these days have this provision. So, make your decision wisely, and don't buy ahead of the usual sale (ie July 4th sales) thinking you can get the difference down the road. My recommendation,

This TV is great, the price they currently have for it is a good deal! When I bought the TV it was quite a bit more expensive and wasn't really worth what I paid but all in all it's a good solid TV.

This is an excellent TV for the money. And for my viewing (balance of HD and standard definition) this tv fits the bill.
Unless you actually have anything with 1080p (blue ray player/ps3) 720p is already as much as you need. A 50" screen viewed between 5 feet+ looks no different than a 1080 signal, so I consider 1080 a waste of money.
No burn in issues, but I new that is no longer a problem. Panasonic is the top of the line when it comes to plasmas and in reviews of reliability, it registered as the best with less than 2% ever needing servicing.
PS. I would skip the "extended" warranty. The majority of the 2% of tv's that need servicing happen within the first 12 months (manufacturer's warranty), and repairs that need to occur after that tend to cost less than the plan. Just mine and Consumer Reports 2 cents.

I love these Panasonic Plasmas, you can't go wrong. I tried this 720P version this time. I have a 46" Viera in 1080P plasma and this 50" has the same picture quality, I cannot tell the difference and I have great vision, and am very picky about picture quality. This is a great product and you can't beat the price.

I got this "surprise" gift from my wife and 3 daughters for fathers day. I did have a hand in picking it out since none of them would know the difference between a plasma TV and a cell phone!
I was a little hesitant prior to going up to Best Buy to look at this TV since I read almost all the reviews and out of 41, the TV had a 4.8 approval rating.
I went with the thought, I'd find something that was worthy of only a 3! I actually stood back down the isle, close enough to see a good picture but far enough not to be able to see the manufacturer of the TV. I picked 2 that stood out, the panasonic PX50 and the Samsung 1080p. Both pictures were very impressive and for someone who really doesn't use Blu Ray, I couldn't justify spending an additional $400.00 for 1080p. Samsung also had a 720p that also had a very good picture, however all the research I did before I let my family "surprise" me with the new TV said Panasonic is second only to Pioneer in plasma.
I've only had the TV

WOW! What a great television. The picture is just amazing in hi def and I noticed no difference when looking at this one in the store as compared to the 1080p model. The SD picture is satisfactory but I definitely recommend getting hi def. The colors are all very vibrant and are easy to customize. The sound is more than acceptable. One complaint I have heard about plasma televisions is the heat they give off but I have not noticed any with this model. I have had no problems with image retention at all and this model comes with many tools to reduce the risk. Overall this is a fantastic television and finding it for $899 made it all the better. If you are looking for a new television, seriously consider this one!

I researched for months and months and finally decided on this plasma. I am completely happy with my purchase. I was hesitant on the 720p but I honestly cannot tell a difference. Blu-rays look phenomenal. I actually loved the t.v. so much that I went back and got a second for my dad for father's day. Buy this t.v.!!

I bought this TV for my summer home in Maine. I am in the midst of rebuilding this home and have lots of other expenses so I was looking for a big screen TV which was affordable. I originally was set on buying an LCD but after reading the pros and cons of plasma, I changed my mind. I read many reviews and Consumer Reports before choosing this one. I had it shipped to the house (I am in a rural area) at no extra cost and am extremely happy with the set. The picture is great. The setup was fairly easy and even the daytime viewing (which plasma sets get a bad rap) doesn't present any problem at all. The only drawback is the sound. It is not the best but I intend to add external speakers to improve that. The speakers are in the back of the set and point down. My set is located near the walkout basement stairs and the sound travels straight down. I don't think I could have done any better for the price I payed, $950.

So my wife finally agreed to let me get a big screen. I walked into Best Buy with a particular 47" LCD in mind that I had eyeballed before. Walked straight to it with confidence that this is the one I want. When the salesman told me they were out of stock and would have to order it my heart sank. I was fully prepared to take this sucker home and have it ready for the Masters the coming weekend. Determined to not walk out of the store with a TV I looked for another large TV within my price range. That's when I spotted the Panasonic Plasma. I was dissapointed it was not LCD and that it was only 720p. The salesman advised that cable programming only goes as high as 720 and that it would be years before they can make the switch to 1080. Since I do not have blu-ray nor do I plan to I felt a little more comfortable with the 720p. Next was the glare, there did seem to be a noticable glare from lights but my family room is not real bright. The salesman did advise that they do have a 30 day return

I read the reviews and purchased this and it is fantastic. Like they said who needs 1080p. I saved $500. I had a Sharp 52" LCD for 3 days and took it back. Not in the league of Pansonic. The 50" panasonic plasma blows it away. PERIOD! Plasma's are the real deal. Picture and sound and motion can not be beat. Do not listen to that burn in scare. Just read
the reviews.. Even the sound which is not great is much better than some sets with 10 watt speakers.

Wacky shipping. Ordered on Sunday, estimated delivery was for Friday. I noticed on the cryptic tracking info that the TV appeared to be at the freight terminal the day after I ordered (Monday). When the status didn't change by Friday, I made some calls tracking down the freight company & found that the TV was indeed just sitting at the terminal, which I found out was less than 3 miles away. I went & picked it up myself. On that next Tuesday (8 days after ordering) the freight carrier called and asked if they could deliver it! Yes, it was free shipping, but I probably could have picked it up the day after ordering it! Now on to the TV itself... Since this is my 1st flat panel TV (plasma or otherwise), I really can't compare it to others, but I am extremely happy with the picture. I used the opinions of other reviewers and consumer reports to settle on this set, and when it comes to bang for the buck, this is truly the sweet spot. Since I don't have other "modern" TV's to compare this

After looking for several weeks to purchase a flat screen TV I decided to buy this unit. The price was great and I am very pleased with the picture quality of this unit. Nobody will ever know it is not 1080p. Geek Squad tech said he also owns the TV and of all the units he installs this is one of the best. Save yourself some money and buy it. Can't wait to add surround sound!

The picture was far superior to the Vizio and other low end displays you'll see in stores, but after the first year or so the ghost images take longer and longer to go away. But it is was much better new than other 1080p Viszio and other low end tvs. But the screen pixilates when your Blueray or Dish tries to display 1080i or p features. You will be at a disadvantage going forward with a max resolution of only 720p, but for today the occasions that you will need more than that are pretty rare. Its like they say you get what you pay for and you are not getting a Cadillac at this price point, but its far better than DLP or even some similarly priced 1080p sets. I've been advised by Professionals not to install any Panasonic monitors in my entertainment center, but I took a chance on the clarity of the picture and didn't expect the ghosting to start so soon after purchase.

Back in december when me and my girlfriend was asking eachother what we wanted for christmas i said a 60" tv, and she sed a diamond ring(beyond the point). Well we went to our local best buy in Honolulu, and walked the aisles of the tv section, boy i didnt know just how much we was gonna spend on a tv. As we walked around i stared at all the BIG screens and i didnt want her to spend 5-6000 on a tv for me. Yeah i know im modest so i came across this 50', stared at it and i was just loving it. The price was right. Between a 720p or 1080p i couldnt tell the difference. The whole time we was looking i kept it in her mind that it has to be a LCD and not a PLASMA, well after i picked out my tv and we was at checkout she walked away to get a ps3 for me, thats why it had to be a LCD, the associate that was helping us told me it was a PLASMA and i never mentioned it to her till it got delivered (didnt want to feel stupid), being worried about stories how gaming systems burns the image into the plasma,

I purchased this from amazon. Initial delivery was scheduled for 7 days after I placed the order over the weekend. First call from shipper moved the delivery up 3 days, second call moved it up one more day. Delivered on Wednesday, just 3 days after placing the order.
Truck showed up with just the driver. Was expecting two people, but one was enough to get the job done. Brought it in and unpacked it. I had the wall mount ready to go, so he attached the brackets to the TV and hung it on the all mount. He hooked up the cables from my Dish Network receiver and checked it out. Very happy with the whole procedure, and tipped the driver $20.
I was a little disappointed at the initial picture quality. On both Fox News HD and CNBC HD the faces looked a little muddled, like the resolution was not exactly right. Movies on HBO HD looked ok, but still not a good as I thought they should be. I thought about putting my 32" LCD beside it to see if I could see a difference, but never got around to it.

great pictue quality, good sound, good feature, I like CC on and off button, make it fast to switch between selection. It is 720 but picture quality is better than other LCD 1080 I got, I have standard cable of 480. Charter cable does have some HD channels of 720 and 1080, picture quality is better in those HD channels.. I am abit concern about light reflection at first, but it works fine in my living room with alot of day light.

Bought the TV at a local store. Believe me when I say this the picture is much nicer at home than in the store.
However one should understand before purchasing this TV that there is glare/reflectons if there are windows in front of the TV. Additionally the frame/border wround the picture is high-gloss. The relections on this border are very bright. To some people this might be a problem. Luckily I watch most of my TV during the evening. When I do watch it during the day, I sit on an angle from the TV that doesn't show the glare. A suggestion I would make to Panasonic would be to make the border non-glossy.
Another issue I have is there are warnings in the manual about burn-in. You are warned in the manual about the possibility of burn-in in the top/bottom black bars or side black bars when watching letterbox or 4:3 material. The manual just says that if you view the TV for a 'significant' period of time, then burn-in can occur. What should I do? What is a significant period

I usually don't write reviews on anything but I had to on the Panasonic P50X1.
I researched Plasmas and LCD's for 4 to 5 months until I thought my brain would explode. Finally, after reading the reviews on this TV I decided to go to Best Buy and look at it. After seeing it and talking to Brant I bought it.
My wife and I are thrilled with the picture and the sound.
SD channels are sharp and clear and it doesn't heat up.
You do not need a 1080p as many people have stated. 1080p is $600 - 700 more and we couldn't see any noticeable difference.
I feel this is the best 50" out there for $989 or even more.
Panasonic is one of the two top plasmas out there.
Buy it, you won't be sorry.
Thanks to all the people who wrote reviews on this P50X1, it was a big help to me.

I have been waiting and saving for a long time. I decided on Panasonic after reading reviews talking to people who owned them and to sales people. I was alittle intimadated by the 50" screen as I was using a 32" old 2 .5 ft. deep tube TV. Well let me say right here and now it is a perfect size. Alot of my friends said buy as big as you can afford. I went with Plasma over LCD because I watch alot of sports and I want the action to be very real and not blurry. I did not want to spend more than a grand and when I got this bad boy on sale I was elated! Got it all hooked up on Directv HD and it is stunning!! It is so clear and sharp. The colors are so true and vivid. It is jaw dropping good! The menu's are very easy to understand and operate. It was a breeze to get set up and in no time flat I was HDing it and wondering why I waited so long. I would highly recommend this set and a Plasma to everyone. This is the newest technology and is a big improvement over last years model. I almost bought

This tv doesnt pixelate images! All fast motion movement is still at a amazing quality. I have it in a medium lit room where its not to dark and doesnt have to much light and it works perfect! I also have standard def direct tv channels. This tv makes those channels look amazing!
I bought this as a opened box item so i got a great deal at best buy for this TV.
This doesnt compare to a LCD because at least for me this plasma is way better! any tv that can make standard def channels look good is always a plus for me!
The only con i can think of is the Sound quality sounds very tubeish if you dont have a great surround sound setup. i highly recommend getting a surround sound if your gonna get this tv!

I'll sum this up in two words, amazing picture! I bought this tv to replace a 37" Sharp Aquos LCD and it's been the best electronics choice I've made in a long time! I really enjoy this tv to date, which has a strong contrast ratio 30,000:1, which just dwarfed my older LCD that had only 1,200:1, I won't even discuss the refresh rate (but actually was not an issue on the Sharp). Furthermore the value per inch is really unparalled given the quality of this tv. Having done my homework, a 1080p is really a marketing gimick that is not discernable to the average home viewer and furthermore inflates the costs significant, so with little content available or going to be abailable anytime soon in this format why waste your money? It's not as though 1080p content won't display at all! Panasonic got it right with this tv and furthermore the weight is surprisingly managable given the fact that Plasmas were always considered heavier and bulkier than LCDs. I've yet to play Nintendo Wii on this

This TV is Worth Every dime, I Love My Panasonic VIERA / 50" Class / 720p / 600Hz / Plasma HDTV makes you feel like your right in the theatre. Dont try to set it up yourself its a bit heavy and unstable before you get it on the stand, have someone to give you a hand with the lifting. Other than that this is the BEST VALUE on any HD TV. Never thought i could afford it but Best Buy makes it happen! thanks for the great financing!

Purchased for our master bedroom, the Panasonic TC-P50X1 50" 720p has true brilliant color, impressive blacks, great resolution (looks like a 1080p to me and I am a picky engineer), surprisingly good sound and great looks. It sports the lowest price per square inch of screen area and beats LCDs hands down with its 600Hz refresh rate (absolutely no motion blur) and looks the same no matter where you are in the room. After considerable research, the TC-P50X1 was the clear choice due to its price, performance and appearance. A super buy.

I was going back and forth between the 720p and the 1080p and I could not see a difference, they had both side by side, and for the $700 difference it was not worth it to me. I bought the TV at best buy because they matched a competitor online price and that also brought the 4 year warranty down to only $159! Once the tv was delivered (free!) and my HD from directv was set up (free!) I was blown away by the quality. Great color and sharpness, I have it hooked up via HDMI and it is great. My brother has the samsung 1080p and I can't tell the difference. The connections are conviently located on the left side of the back of the tv and the sd card slot which is a great addition is on the left side of the tv along w/ some more inputs. It took me about a week or so to finally customize my own picture setting, I did not like the preset ones that much, either to dark or the vivid is to bright and contrasty. There is no VGA input but I got the pc hooked up via the s-video. Only downfall

We recently purchased this TV as a replacement for our aging 36" CRT and have been pretty happy overall. The picture is nice and bright and the controls are well laid out. The problem begins with the S-Video input from our DirecTivo unit. The picture was flawless on our old screen (with the same setup) but the new plasma shows a vertical line of blocks in the center of the screen(1). This doesn't happen while playing games on our XBox-360 hooked up to the component interface. But the biggest problem is that we tried to contact Panasonic about this but haven't heard anything back. :(
The other minor issue is that since the speakers fire directly down, the sound bounces of the TV stand and up the stairs. As a result we can hear the TV almost as well upstairs as you can sitting right in front of it. However, this is nothing that a simple surround sound system wouldn't solve.

After many months of searching, we settled on the Panasonic 50 inch plasma 720p. The folks at CNET were unable to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 50-inch TV and after looking at Best Buy and others, we really couldn't either. Besides, once it's in your house, it looks a lot better.
We are very pleased although it's been less than a week.
We used to own a 50-inch Samsung HD-DLP tv, which we bought in 2004. The picture on the new TV is significantly better than the DLP.
We got a great deal at a local HHGregg store (

I looked at Panasonic, LG, Samsung and Pioneer Plasmas and LCD's.
I researched all the models including 720p and 1080p. When I saw the Panasonic TC-50 X1, I thought it was the best picture out of all the models.
When I saw the price, I was shocked.
I have been watching my tv on HDTV, dvd, Wii, Xbox360 and blu-ray.
The picture quality is just incredible....The colors are vibrant and bold.
I can't stop watching this tv......Pansonic hit a homerun with this tv!
You cannot get a better picture for the money!

Like the rest of you, I spent months looking at everything out there. About the fifth time I walked into the store, a bright salesman showed us this 720 plasma. I was very skeptical, everything I read said only buy a 1080. He said with the plasma, that wouldn't matter at all. He was so right. We had the Geek Squad calibrate it today, just over a month after we've been watching. Wow, you can watch the grass grow on this set. So you can be a tv snob and pay five times as much, but I can't imagine you're going to enjoy your tv any more than we enjoy ours! 50" of gorgeous! I'm just a regular person, with no expertise in this area, but I wanted to come on here and reassure you other regular folks, if you want the best tv for your money, get this Panasonic Plasma! Especially at this sale price, I paid more, but am not sorry.

This is an exceptional TV for the price, and Best Buy's price match made it that much better. The picture quality is superb, almost a 3-D like quality. The contrast ratio and blacks are deep and rich. I find it difficult to watch my non-HD TVs in the house. SD programming is solid, not spectacular. Sound is good, but a little tinny at times, recommend hook up to exterior sound system. Overall, no regrets whatsoever about this purchase.

I purchased this TV for my media room, impressed by the picture of the 720 and the price was great $998 with a $150 instant rebate that I used towards a $119 wall mount,
Yes it's a plasma, but blows my Sony LCD away.

Replaced a 5 year old 50" DLP. I thought the picture on the DLP was great and had some reservations about replacing it with a plasma. I could not have made a better choice. The BDB board (mother board) went out and it was going to be $475 to repair. So I replaced the DLP with the Panasonic and we are amazed at the picture quality, it almost looks 3 dimensional. Going with the 720P rather than the 1080P was also the right decision. The video source is Dish network through a Denon AV receiver with Component video output. Since most sources other than Blue Ray and some game consoles are 720p or 1080i save your money ($500) and opt for the 720p set. The rep at Best Buy really knew is products and helped me make the right decision!

We purchased this a few weeks ago and love it! One of our biggest concerns was the sound because we're not in the market for a surround sound system yet. We are completely satisfied with the speakers!!! It sounds awesome two rooms away- loud, clear, no vibration. We got a great price on this at Sears along with a 3 year no interest plan. Our first choice was a Samsung, but we couldn't be happier with this Panasonic - especially for the price and financing option.

We set up the TV and couldn't get picture -- called support, we have a satellite hookup. All we had to do was press INPUT and BINGO! Super clear picture, good sound. Support was easy to reach and very nice. I have played several PS3 games on it and cannot stress how great the picture is and how easy it is to use. I can easily go back and forth between PS3 and TV input. It was also a snap to program the satellite remote to the new TV. I LOVE IT! We got a good price; someone had returned it and it didn't have a box, so we got an extra $250.00 off the price. Who needs a box anyway? One less thing to throw away! Overall, WELL worth the price for general viewing and video gaming. :)

Overall this set is great. I have dvd w/ progressive scan and Dish-HD hooked up to the TV. HD looks awesome as well do lower resolution signals. This TV handles everything with ease and even at 720P is well worth a serious look. I did have a short session with it connected to an XBOX360, and let me tell you it was a little scary because of the image retention issue/ non-issue. However, I was able to use the built in slider tool (forgot official name) which removes IR. May I also suggest to switch to the dynamic pixel shifting tool (forget official name). Again, if you are looking for a TV to display HD material regardless of medium. for the price, this TV is your best bet.

I had been wanting to buy a new tv for a long time and i got pretty excited when I saw this one available. I went to the Best Buy store several times to watch the display model and compare it with the other plasmas and lcds. This tv does not have as good of a picture as most of the other 50 inch tv's that are 500-1000 dollars more than this one (duh!) but for the price you can not beat it! I have had it for a week now and have watched a few standard DVD movies and standard definition tv and it all looks great. As the other reviewers have said, standard definition tv looks really good on this set compared to others. Today I watched nascar that was broadcasted in 720p and the picture is fantastic!!! absoulty no pixelation!! if you want to buy this set make sure you get them to give it to you at the sale price of 989 because not only will it save you 100 bucks off the regular price, but it will drop 100 bucks off the 4 year extended warranty also!!

Be very careful when purchasing this tv...you are taking a risk!!!! My tv would not power on the day after I purchased it. Only red blinking light indicating a failure. After researching, I found this to be a common issue with this tv. Needless, to say the tv went back to the store and I purchased a Samsung...much better product. Very happy with Samsung.

I bought this TV 2 weeks ago and I'm still tickled over the $990 price I gave for it. I have a difficult time telling the difference between 720p, 1080i, 1080p. The TV does 1080i, but I keep it at 720p anyway. So why spend an extra $1000 for 1080p? That's buying something I don't need, with money I don't have to impress people I don't like! Blu-Ray is AMAZING! You see EVERYTHING. Colors are rich, textures and details are unbelievably lifelike. It's like looking thru a window into an alternate universe.Watching I AM LEGEND was an experience, (my Mom's poodle was in the room and he freaked out with fear from seeing what was on the TV during that movie!)as was STARGATE my first weekend with it. You see ALL the textures, and can tell which actors have pancake makeup and which don't. I used a calibration DVD to fine tune the TV. Brightness and contrast in standard setting was dead on, color and tint needed minor tweaking, barely discernible difference from standard factory settings.

I bought a Panasonic TC-P50X1 rather than the Z800U. Both sets were side by side at a local retailer and I thought the 800U looked better with the identical settings. Since the TV is for my cottage, I could not justify the $800 difference. Once up and running I have only one regret. I always connect my tvs to my stereo system. This set does not have audio outputs for RCA cables. There is a digital audio out which does me no good. This is a glaring oversight so caveat emptor.

This TV is by far best price for picture quality.
And you can't go by what you see at the store. They split there A/V cables like a hundred times from one or two video sources so its better when you get it home. I've worked at places like this one.

You could tell this tv is 720p!!! i dont know what everyone is talking bout. I would definitely NOT recommend this tv. I dont even want to buy it myself. After reading all the reviews i was excited to see the quality but when i went to best buy to check it out i was extremely disappointed. If you want to get a 46''+ then you MUST get a 1080p. But i suppose if you are sitting like 20ft back then maybe you should go with a 720p because you obviously would not be able to tell from that distance. Hopefully this was helpful to you all.

i got this tv the first week it was available and was quite amazed on the picture quality right out of the box. The colors were eye popping and the contrast ratio was really strong.. them blacks were definately true. the price would make you wonder what could be wrong with it, but i can tell you all for sure that this is literally a steal, as it look better than a lot of 1080p sets out there. i also like the simulated surround sound it has intergrated in it, definately something worth mentioning because it really does give you that surround feel as advertised. honestly, i would say with confidence that this is probably the best 720p set out currently. the 600 hz also helps as well lol, it kept up with ZERO lag/ghost effict when i was playing call of duty world at war. The only 2 complaints i could say about this tv is the fact that its not 1080p (which doesnt really matter if you dont own a blueray player or something else that outputs that resolution), and the fact that it doesnt have

You really can't beat this TV unless you are willing to spend about a $1000 more.
Look, just compare the picture quality to the other sets. LCD TV's do not even compare. LCD's cannot handle fast action, period. They will break up into pixels. Most stores wont tell you this, or let you see this. You will not be disappointed with this model. Read the other reviews and decide.
I paid $999 for this TV on 2/22/09. Make Best Buy sell it to you for this price (Price Match). If you get it for this price you will also save an additional $100+ on the extended warranty. You will save over $200 plus tax on the TV and extended warranty.
If you are going to buy any Flat Panel TV seriously consider this model. You wont regret it.

I purchased this TV a few days ago and I am extremely pleased with it. Its easy to setup, literally plug every thing in and turn it on and that is it. Regular DVD's look 10 times better on this TV throu a Blu-Ray player. And blu-rays discs look absolutely awesome. If you on the fence for the 1200 dollar range, dont be afraid to jump off for this one. You will not find a better 50' plasma for the price.
p.s. This TV is alot bigger in your home then it is on the show room floor.

It has been 4 years since my last TV, a flat screen CRT with component video. Wow! After getting a feel for the LCD/Plasma markets and watching prices fall for years. I finally decided that the market was at a point where prices had fallen substantially for most TVs, the technologies on the TV unit itself, and broadcasting sides were fairly consistent, and I couldn’t wait for ever. I knew that I would need a wall mount, a new entertainment system, new cords, a new satellite/cable subscription, and I had to be careful about past equipment that I already had, and future ones that I might want.
Last spring I started visiting websites once in a while, and store models when I was waiting for my wife to finish shopping. I started getting educated on different things, and developed my own opinions/tastes. After I had some idea, I would ask my wife to look as well and give me her opinion.
Along the way I found a few good websites that got me started.

I bought this plasma after a 1080P Panasonic I ordered went on back order. This is better anyways because it has 600 Hz as opposed to 480 Hz for motion blur. Plus blu-ray is the only format right now that used 1080p, broadcasters don’t use 1080p right now, and from what I read it's not in the near future.

This is an amazing tv. I was concerned about it only being 720p but after compairing in the store and then getting it home the picture quality is great and with my FIOS HD you cannot beat it. The 600hz proccessing makes all the difference in the world. If I could afford it I would buy another one for the gameroom.

i was originally gonna go with a Phillips 47" but every place was sold out. and boy am i glade they were. the price was the same and this one is a 50" instead of a 47". its only a 720p but who needs a 1080p anyways? especialy with this pic. besides most HD tv programs and games are only 720p anyways. about that i have a xbox 360 that i connected to this tv with a high quality HDMI cable and switched my xbox to 1080p and it accepted it along with my HD dvd player. any one with a xbox knows that if your tv dosent support 1080p it wont accept the settings but yet it still does!!! ... so maybe this tv is 1080p???. regardless this tv has an AMAZING picture!! easy to set up, great sound and i didnt even have to adjust the picture. i would highly recommend this, (what i would call) PERFECT TV...

I was worried about SDTV looking grainy and pixely on such a big screen, and one that is for High Def sources. I was amazed when I hooked up the cable box via an HDMI cable at the clarity of this picture. I replaced an elcheapo 32" lcd with this that couldnt handle the SDTV channels very well. I couldnt believe what I was seeing to be honest, I was waiting to turn the TV on for the 1st time to be disapointed, and the good thing was...I Wasn't. And the HD channels were something else entirely, just like I was standing right there.
I hooked up the Xbox 360 and put the settings at 1080i, plopped in COD4 and was simply blown away. The clarity of the enemy at a distance is astounding.
The 600hz on this TV makes high intense motion and action scenes flawless. I popped in several movies to test them all out and had never experienced what I did prior to having this TV.
Dont be afraid of Plasma, read all the reviews on LCD vs Plasma you want. Read all the "horror stories"

This 50inch Plasma is amazing and priced just right with this recession. I bought this TV on Saturday and the picture has been nothing more than amazing. Sports on this TV with 600HZ are motionless. The fans were so clear and the clarity of the game was unreal. Sound Quality is great out of the box. I also purchased a PS3 and Call of Duty 4 (Modern Warfare) which the graphics and action were unreal. I would also like to say that I considered a Sony LCD Originally but decided that the pricing and specs of this tv couldn't be matched. I would also recommend comparing this tv side by side with the exact same model of the superior Pioneer. There isn't much difference in quality or picture. The only difference is the Pioneer is 100% more. I also am planning to have the TV calibrated which I believe will allow my TV to last longer and provide me with much finer clarity with better detail, color, and black to white contrast. So don't think twice just go out purchase this TV with PS3.

I dont know what others are thinking. the picture contrast are horrible. the only good thing is 600hz but you cant tell the difference. I got a 50" 720p LG and there is no comparison. this is suppose to be new technology. I dont see it

I ordered mine [TC-P50X1] last week and was happy to see the Old Projection TV "on it's last leg" wheeled out the door to the recycling center for free. Out of the box and with nothing else but an automatic channel can and the cable connection from the wall [no cable box attached]. WOW!! - eye popping colors - WOW! WOW! WOW!
Compared to the other comments below, my installation is definitely a basic one - "almost primitive" lacking the various play and record devices that can be plugged in the back. I will listen from the units speakers - because that is all I have available. Although, now considering to bite the bullet on some other devices to create a "Theatre Experience". I now have an ultra superior picture - could use some earth shaking sounds to go with it. Therefore what Panasonic has to offer is an "out of the box" TV that looks absolutely great!!
I would recommend the Panasonic TC-P50X1 to anyone.

Picked this tv up yesterday. I am VERY pleased. I read up about plasmas and knew exactly what to expect. I expected an awesome picture, with black levels and colors that lcd tv's cannot match. It lives up to my expectations and then some. -and I knew there would be no motion blur, because the image processor runs at 600hz. (dont be fooled though, it doesn't make the motion look "too smooth" or "fake," like the 120hz lcd tv's.). Panasonic's image processor runs at 600hz, but the source will not be affected. Every thing looks exactly the way it should. Enough said.
A HUGE thing i noticed is that you can send a 1080p source to it, and it WILLread as 1080p. ??? The tv specs says its 720p, but I ran my ps3 with 1080p, with confirmation from BOTH the ps3, AND the TV menu. So is this tv capable of displaying a 1080p source? YES. Is the resolution of the screen itself 1080... NO Idea. Regardless...
The bottom line for me is: the TV is ridiculously good for the price. HIGHLY RECOMM

My friend has the TH50PX80U and this new model looks even better than his. Unbelievable for the price!!! Tons of HDMI ports, SD Card slot, nice smooth design, very low price, fast 600Hz refresh rate, 720P is all you need, option to turn off audio & only us my 5.1 Pioneer system, relatively light for a 50" tv, nice plasma glass screen, small amount of glare, great picture out of the box but i bet a calibration could make it look even better, Wii, Xbox 360, Ps2, HD movies, regular old cable all look fantastic!!!! Only time will tell how it holds up but I mean last years model 15,000 contrast ratio with 100,000 hour lamp life....my TC-P50X1 30,000:1 contrast ratio same lamp life!!!! only down fall is no DVI port as listed on the specs.

Only time will tell how it holds up but I mean last years model 15,000 contrast ratio with 100,000 hour lamp life....my TC-P50X1 30,000:1 contrast ratio same lamp life!!!! only down fall is no DVI port as listed on the specs.

I picked up a Sony Bravia 1080P LCD October last year, and on 2/15//09 this tv which is a plasma and when compared to the Bravia it held it's end of the bargan! Well I started out hooking up my old DVR to watch some HD programming from Dish and I must say I was amazed!
I started watching Planet Earth "Deep Oceans" and the black levels were great and the colors were top notch amongst the dark ocean floor (however I would like to see CNET check the 2 Million to 1 dynamic contrast ratio claims). Watching Mackerel fish being chased & eaten by Dolphins & diving Sea Gulls proved firm that the 600hz was working to satisfaction!
After a 20 Min. stint on nature, I decided to check out the Action Movies. So I put on Jet Li Fearless, I must say all the fight seens were great & better than my Bravia! Especially on the scene where he fights his child hood nemesis & the camera zooms out from the fighting platform and you can see the whole village! That scene was clear

Great TV, The picture right out of the box was good. I got an HD reciever from direct tv a couple of days later and had the tv calibrated. WOW what a differance!!! I was a little worried because this tv has only been out for about 1wk, but not any more. I would highly recommend this tv be calibrated by the GEEK SQUAD, It makes a huge differance. Best TV I have ever watched.
