We paid less for this 42 inch than the smaller LCD televisions. Great picture contrast and great during fast action in movies. Very clear and brilliant color. We don't subscribe to HD and don't plan to, so regular tv is a little fuzzy but that's because my husband wanted the 42 inch instead of smaller. We got it mainly for movie night anyway and watching DVDs on it is great.

I bought my Plasma TV months ago i wanted to wait so i could give a honest review. The televison in my opinion is a great TV. I like Panasonic Product. I bout a Panasonic TV back in 2000 and if it was'nt for this whole digital change I would still have my TV (gave to my nephew). Watching HD channel is as if you are right in the middle of everything. The Yankee's world series game was +++++++++. For those people who have had bad luck with this TV you have to remember when these things are being shipped it is people who handle them. I have had broken SONY, SAMSUNG, ETC. and in the end its just about what we like. Each person has their own opinion. That is why there are so many different product so we can have choices. This Plasma TV is great and for those people who have bought one and like it i am quite sure they have no complaints. Unlike LCD the people look more real on a Plasma TV. GO PANASONIC ON A GREAT PRODUCT THUS FAR.

For $600 -- no tax and no shipping charges -- this is a great entry-level HD TV. I had a sony 27" tube TV for 9 years and wanted to get into HD without spending too much because the tech changes so quickly. Once I get used to all the particulars of HD watching, in a couple years I'll take more of a risk with something cutting edge. Probably the only change would've been to jump up to 1080, to really take advantage of HD, but that would have been another $200. This Panasonic 42" is a good, solid buy, so don't get too bogged down in research like I did. The picture, sound and use are all very good. If this is your first HD TV, you won't be blown away, but you'll be pleasantly satisfied, which is a great place to start. Also, the white glove shipping service that Amazon gave for free was great.

I bought this TV as a second TV. Its a little big for the use but at the price, it was too good to pass up. It is a 720 not 1080 but at 42" and our viewing distance I can't really tell the difference. Our viewing is mostly all HD/satellite and we are very happy with this TV. The only negative, and its a nit-pick is that the stand does not swivel, but we have ours a separate swivel that also holds the satellite box. A great choice for saving some money if, like me, you can't stand the motion blur of LCDs.

This TV is marketed to the entry/budget level buyers in the HDTV market. That is what we were.
We replaced a 12 year old Sony 27" with this model and have been completely satisfied since the purchase.
Setup was much easier than expected. The hardest part was installing the unit on the wall.
While watching new programs and/or sporting events I am finally able to read the scroll at the top and/or bottom of the TV. It actually does say something legible!
Of course there are TVs out there that have many more bells and whistles, even higher resolution, but if you are looking to get a first HDTV I think you will be happy, I am.

I have had this tv for 15 months, and the picture is INCREDIBLE! When I first saw it I was WOW'd from the first second. The actual contrast is a bit exaggerated from the claims, but I can't complain. The bluray movies are absolutely stunning! Even after 15 months it has ZERO dead pixels! I have played Xbox 360 on it religiously and there is NO burn in or image retention.
My BIGGEST complaint with this TV is that after 15 months (just 3 short months after the warranty is up) my tuner board is fried! WHY!? It will scan all the channels and find maybe 3 of the 40+ analog channels the cable company offers and all the digital channels that arent encrypted. (I did verify it was the tv and not my cable line) So now to get all my channels I either have to call the repair guy (god help me) or pay the $10/mo for the box. In this state of economy that $10 could definitely pay for something else that I actually care for. This happens quite commonly, just google it. My other complaints are

I bought this tv for the living room to replace an older Samsung 1080i lcd 40in that, two years ago, cost me 1399.00. WOW! and this tv only cost me 599.00? Fist let me briefly say that Lcd/Plasma is simply a matter of preference. In my opinion, they both look great, especially if you have an HD signal going to them. I have a newer Samsung 32in lcd in the bedroom with Hd and it, too, looks amazing.
Now for the review. I brought this tv home, carefully opened it, mounted the two rails on the back for my stand, plugged the power cord/Hdmi in, and turned it on. Believe the reviews, folks. The picture is amazing.! ESPN in HD, along with other hd channels, look crystal clear. I could not justify paying an extra couple hundred dollars to get 1080p, which I could only utilize when watching blu ray. I feel like I stole the tv for 599. What I also like about the tv is when I turned my Blu Ray player on, I did not have to find the remote and hit "source", because the tv changed over to that

I bought this tv about 5 months ago during the Father's Day sale for 599.99. I wanted to wait a few months prior to writing a review as I personally don't find much value with reviews written about products that were just purchased as it will almost always seem great when you get it home.
I'm pleased to say that after 5 months I have had no problems what so ever. This TV has a great picture. My TV service is through Verizon Vios which broadcasts in 720p so a 1080p set would have been a waste of money. Plus over 90% of the sources that I've read state in TV's 50" and under you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. When I got the tv I was quite disappointed with its DVD play back. I had been having problems with my old dvd player (I have to pry it open with a screw driver to insert a disc) so I went and replaced my old, cheap dvd player with a new, cheap dvd player. The new one has progress scan and up-scaling to full 1080p. The difference is remarkable as my

I actually purchased a Panasonic plasma in June of 2007 but feel compelled to review it now that I have owned it for so long. First things first. Plasma is the best thing going. The key element in picture quality is black level retention and no LCD tv with it's bright backlight shining towards the viewer from behind the screen can EVER produce the deep blacks necessary for color accuracy and a life like picture. I think LCD's are very nice and have one in my bedroom but it does not compare to the plasma, especially the poor viewing angle. Back to the Panasonic. They rock the plasma industry with the best and most reliable sets at the most competitive prices. I have dual tuner DVR HD set top box and Sony blu-ray player. Let me tell you the picture still amazes me every time I watch it even after two years. I have seen blu-ray run through newer 1080p models and truthfully people if 1080p is better, my 50 year old eyes cannot tell the difference. So save yourself a fortune if you are buying

After my 32 flat panel LCD stoppead working, I was thrown into the market for a new TV. My last purchse was 3 years ago. I wanted to upgrade to a larger size and the price was very reasonable especially as this is a plasma. I bought it home today and am pleased with the picture. It is amazing. Very easy to hook up. I have not connected the HDMI cable and the picture is incredibly sharp and vivid.
Just thinking about when I can buy another Panasonic plasma for my other room. This was also a Consumer Report pick.

Good value for a Plasma TV! Great picture! Easy to setup, I initially set it up with the coaxial connection, but later changed it to RCA plug wire set before my HD cable box purchase with DISH. Great picture even with old VHS, little grainy but what would you expect? 720 was a better picture resolution than the 1080 while in the store. Sales Rep allowed me to adjust the color settings, which are usually not set up in the store. Sales Rep told me they just plug them right into the cable wire, so check it out with all brands! Remember when you compare tv's in the store... they all look off. Adjust it yourself and see!

The TV is awesome. What amazed me at first is how clear the picture was and I didn't even have HD cable at the time. I love it. No problems (knock on wood). I would recommend it definitely.
If you're looking for a great TV on a budget, this one's definitely a must buy.

I bought this TV a few weeks ago and am still getting accustomed to its features and quirks. It is a second large screen TV in my home, placed in the bedroom. Granted, it is large for a bedroom, but our viewing distance to the TV warrants a larger image. This TV came home with me because of the combination of reviews here and on Consumer Reports, and the price point. Despite these good things going for it, rather than elation at my purchase, my experience thus far has been somewhat on the disappointing side. My setup is very basic: standard def cable TV and DVD player. At first the cable TV hookup was via coax cable. The picture was nothing to write home about, less sharp than on my old 27 inch conventional TV. The first program I watched was "The Wizard of Oz" on TBS. The image was extremely dark, annoyingly so. Colors were very good, but I could not get around the degree of darkness in the dark scenes. Attempts to improve the brightness/ lower the black level were met with

I've owned this for one day. I replaced a 32" Toshiba LCD with this plasma. This is my first plasma. I work in the Custom Electronics Industry and feel very capable of getting the best picture I can out of just about any tv. After hooking this up to my HD Cable I was originally not very happy with the brightness. After some adjustments I was able to get the picture pretty good. This does not have the ability to do fine adjustments to really dial in the picture, but with some work the picture can be very very good for the money. I would recommend this tv for bedroom viewing only, this should not be used in primary viewing if you really are looking for top picture. Panasonic right now is the best plasma you can buy with Pioneer going away. I would recommend purchasing the higher line model for theater type viewing but for a bedroom this TV is great for the money

It was time for us to upgrade our old TV and we did tons of research on what to get. Opted for the newer plasmas because they have greatly improved and are less expensive. Also discovered that the 720p is very adequate because you can only view to what the broadcasting station puts out (and most only go to 720p). So with that in mind we researched the top rated models and found that that panasonic was one of the best in the 42" model. The price on Amazon was within our budget and it came delivered to our door (in fact to the room it was being set up). We are thrilled with the quality and would recommend to anyone.

I have had this tv for about 3 months and it is an excellent set for the price. I thought I stole it for $649 and it is now down to $549. Panasonic makes an excellent tv, and this one is no exception!

after looking for an hdtv for a while i finally went with this viera, and i couldnt be happier. i was origanlly sceptical about a plasma, untill i did some research and found out they are much better then lcd's. (actully if you look there are plasmas out that have better picture quallity then the best led,s. but theyll cost you 3-4k dollars) plasmas no longer have burn ins or shorter lives then lcd's, so dont be fooled. plasmas are much better then lcd's, especially this one. there contrast ratio are in the millions where as lcd's are in the thousands. they have glass screens that are tough not like lcd's that are easily broken and pixels fade. plasmas have only two down sides to lcd's. one they arnt as energy efficient, but there better then a tube tv. there mostly all energy star rated now. and two they dont come in and smaller sizes then 40in. now for me neither of these would ever be a problem. the picture on this set couldnt be better, its simply amazing. i had an lcd before this and

Picture=good overall, 720p and 1080i is sufficient for a 42 inch seeing that the major networks and cable only broadcast at 720p and 1080i. Thank you 1080p sets for making 720p sets so affordable...lol... besides 1080p is only good at 50 inches or more and only effective with a blu-ray player. Maybe we can pray for sports and nature broadcasts to be in glorious 1080p someday...lol...Now the features, sd slot is a good idea but a usb input would've been better so you can upgrade the firmware if needed. No pc input but that can be remedied easily with a dvi cable and a hdmi adapter. Note: dvi only outputs video, you still need to turn on your computer speakers. The sound is decent for it's class. 3 hdmi inputs is pretty much an industry standard but if you need more, buy a hdmi hub. The stationary stand is very sturdy unlike swivel stands that feel jinky, when swiveling. I could care less about a swivel stand. I also like plasma because they have glass screens, keep in mind glass is reflective

Our '06 Sharp Aquos 32" LCD died last weekend and we went to BB to check out the deals. This TV is a superior deal over the other options in this price range. The panasonic rep was there to answer our qs and it was so nice that he cleared up our concerns about 720/1080p in the 32"-42" range and heat vs energy star. He didnt oversell us which was awesome to see. So far I am in love with this product, works great with our panasonic BRay since they talk to each other. I'll update if there are any issues, but I don't see it happening.

I bought this television about a month ago to replace an 8 year old Toshiba top of the line rear projection TV. I paid $2500 for the Toshiba back in 2001 and it broke 2 years ago and cost me $300 to fix. The Toshiba recently had its power supply go out and this would have cost another $300 to fix so I decided to buy a new TV. I did not want to spend thousands of dollars again for a new TV so I decided my price range would be around $600 to $700. I ruled out Toshiba because of my previous experience with them. I looked at LCD's made by Sony, Samsung, Sharp and LG, and plasmas made by Pioneer and Panasonic. Pioneer makes a great plasma too but they have decided to stop making plasma TV's and I think the Panasonic looks just as good for a fraction of the cost. I have had good luck with panasonic products in the past. I have a 25 inch panasonic tube TV which is 20 years old and it has been moved and dropped in the past but it still works. The panasonic P42X1 plasma has an outstanding picture

We just had out basement redone, and I slaved for way too long over the decision on what TV to put down there. Information overload, thanks to the Internet. I weighed LCD vs. plasma and came down on the side of plasma for our basement for various reasons. I am very happy with the choice, so far. There is an odd difference b/t LCD (which we also have) and plasma: LCD has a picture so clear that it's almost weird at times, whereas plasma has more of a deep color that looks as saturated as when you go to the movies at a really good theater. It's absurdly clear, too, but there is something about the way the color is presented that is more satisfying, less...digital. But the long and short of it is, for a 42" inch TV to come delivered for $630, that's pretty hard to beat. When you see the picture, it's even more remarkable.

Panasonic TC-P42X1 42" 720p Plasma HDTV: Good picture after calibration, a procedure not covered in the manual; out of the box it has a slight greenish-yellowish tinge and is somewhat dull. The 720p is just about as good as 1080 at normal viewing distances, and 1080 HDTVs are a good deal more expensive and consume more power. CHANNELS SETUP PROBLEM: after the initial system setup & scan for all channels, a new individual channel cannot be tuned in or added manually - if a new station comes on or you have to rotate your antenna to point at other cities, then each time a complete rescan is necessary, during which all previously stored channels are deleted. The "Manual" menu does not allow adding a new channel that did not show up in the previous scan, all very inconvenient if you have to rotate your antenna often. An incomprehensible omission, as Panasonic's VCRs could do this. AUDIO: weak, 20 watts output is claimed but it's nowhere near that, at 100% volume it's not even as loud as my

I have had this tv for 1.5 months. I performed the 120 hour burn in process and calibrated according to the avforums recommendations and even tweaked it a bit to my taste after it had mellowed out a bit more. For what I paid ($599.99 at Sears), and this being my first real HDTV, I am very pleased. CNet reported something of gray, horizontal lines showing in some images. I can see these lines when the TV is off but only feel that it is the screen. Getting into the Service Menu to do additional tweaking is not hard, you just have to be careful. The general menu leaves a bit to be desired but with the Service menu available for more tweaking, it's just fine. Image wise, it's very cool. I have HD Cable (component), XBOX 360 (HDMI) and PS3 (HDMI) running in and the images are well above what I was experiencing with my RCRT 42. I don't use the speakers on the TV for sound so I cannot comment on that. Detail in Blue Ray movies is excellent. I have noticed things that I haven't seen before and

After driving myself crazy for a year shopping and prepared to pay $1000 for a new HD TV to replace my 26" Sharp Aquos LCD, I decided to try this 42" Plasma and save a chunk of money. It had been on sale in Sears (same price as Amazon) and two of the salesmen, I spoke to on separate occasions, recommended it and has also purchased it at its original higher price. The big difference I see in Plasma is the incredible true colors. Vibrant reds, blue, greens - true colors! As for being only 720p, well the picture is fantastic and I do in no way feel deprived not having 1080p. I also found the sound on this tv is better than my LCD. Some folks mentioned reflection in their reviews. The only reflection I get is from a window and it reflects off of the shiny metal frame around the TV (not the glass). I am extremely happy with this set and the Plasma technology.

I took a little bit of time to write a review for this plasma set so that I could get familiar with the features. I am still breaking in the plasma, so my picture settings are still really conservative. Nonetheless, the picture quality is still greater than my 42" plasma that I purchased 3 years ago. I love the fact that you can link all Viera products together, however the downfall for this set is the inability to link any other product without having to use another remote. If someone has found out a way to do that, please let me know. Another personal downfall for this set, is not having enough HDMI ports in the rear of the tv. I have an Xbox 360, Blu Ray Player, and Cable box all hooked up via HDMI so that I can get the best picture possible, As you can probably guess, one of those items has to be hooked up on the side of the tv. While watching tv, you probably wouldn't notice it, but if the tv is off and you look at it, you can definitely see the cord, which keeps my entertainment center

I have been looking for a new panel for sometime for by bedroom. I wanted something big enough I could see in bed without my glasses. I went into Best Buy and saw the TC-P42X1 was on sale for 699.00, so I decided to bite. I wasn't too worried because I told myself if I didn't like it, I would bring it back. Once I got it hooked up to DishHD service, I was blown away. This set is phenomenal!! The blacks are black, wonderful contrast, and the picture is perfect. I spent a couple of days getting the color the way I wanted, and I finally came up with the following settings: brightness +100, Constrast+55, Color +60, Tint 0, Sharpness +70. Don't be concerned it's not a 1080p set, because it just doesn't get any better at this price point. You have to remember it's a 42 inch set, so 1080p is not as important. In conclusion, you will not be disappointed.

Panasonic has had our tv for 2 1/2 weeks and still it's not repaired. They don't know anything when we call and can't give us any information about a replacement tv or loaner tv. Terrible service. We will not buy another Panansonic. Look online before you buy this TV you will see lots of people having this same problem and Panasonic is in no hurry to service their customers. I wish we had done our research before purchasing this one.

Bought this a few weeks ago and wanted to wait before I left my feedback. Delivery was just OK. I kept checking online and it kept saying that it was in transit waiting for something from the shipper. Finally I called the shipping company, and they arranged to deliver it the next day - so if you watch your delivery online - don't hesitate to contact the shipper to set up a delivery time. No set up - 2 men just carried the box in - but it was kept upright. I had my kids help me unpack it so I could try it out - but the drivers were long gone by the time I had it hooked up. But - it didn't matter, the set up was quick, even for a non-techie like myself. Got the bottom put on (it does require 2 people) and put it up on top of a dresser. Hooked up the cable box, a few adjustments, and it's fine. We've watched movies and it looks wonderful. We use no other speakers except for the TV and the sound is also great. The color is off just a tad upon delivery, so I'm going to try the settings

The tv arrived yesterday and knowing that most of us do not buy this tv to watch plain old cable, I put in Wall-e in Blu-Ray followed by Folklore on the Playstation 3. Let me say that this is the best picture quality I have ever seen for this price. I also have a 52 inch Sony Bravia and the Viera still has superior quality. I have to admit I spent 45 mins to 1 hour adjusting the color/brightness/contrast for the 4 settings on the tv (cinema, standard, game and custom) and I will repeat what I said above: There is no better image quality for this price currently in the market. I see some people here complaining about the speakers and I was also disappointed with the sound, so I decided to change the audio settings by putting Bass to +11 and Treble to +4 and I have to say that the sound is also outstanding when you spend 5 mins trying to figure it out and read the manual. To sum things up I have no complaints about this tv and I cannot believe the price I paid for it. This tv is a STEAL at

This is an awesome TV set for the price. The picture is great. The only negatives is it does not have the greatest sound and there are not RCA audio out jacks. As far as viewing angle, the picture is great from off center at an angle. The only negative for the picture is what is true of plasma TV's--you willl get reflection off of the screen from light coming in through the windows. Otherwise I love the set and would definitely buy it again.

I bought this set in June after reading great reviews of it online (plus it was on sale). After letting the screen phosphors burn-in (age) for about 150 hours the image has gotten even better than it was when out of the box. I wish the picture image settings in the user service menu were more extensive (grayscale, green push), but after letting the screen mature and then making picture adjustments, I love it. This is one heck of a value-for-the-money television.

I bought this for my 75 year old mother, replacing a 15 year old 32 inch crt type panasonic. $ 599 for a panasonic plasma i couldn't hardly believe it. Even with standard def comcast digital cable she is very happy. For her the picture is great, for me its just standard def. Since i had already programed her comcast remote it was just plug and play, 5 minute set up. Very happy overall. Only negative was the west coast was bought out of this perticular model and it took 28 days to get it.

The picture on this T.V connected to Comcasts Cable HD DVR with full 720p HD is as good as picture on any of my LG 1080p plasmas (phenomenal). Hook this up to a theater audio setup and your good. I don't see the hype with 1080 unless your going to be using Blue Ray. Cable and Satellite do not broadcast at 1080 correct me if I am wrong. And may I say that if you do not know about the Brand Panasonic for plasma they are number one in overall rankings now that pioneer is off the market for plasmas. You cannot go wrong with this TV.
It would be a great TV at $1000 in my opinion. Hope this helps your decision. Plasmas are great in darker rooms. If you are going to be watching during the day in a bright room LCD may be a good choice. But the colors from this plasma in a darker environment is unmatched.

I bought this tv about 30 days ago while on sale for $599.00, and I've waited until I had it a while before writing a review.
I am VERY happy with this tv and extremely happy that I got it for $599...who doesn't like a deal. My first impression after hooking it up to my HD DVR box from Comcast was the picture was much darker than my other tv. In fact, it was too dark on the standard picture setting, but I decided to keep it a few days for an adjustment period. I'm glad I did. After I found the five different preset picture settings, I was able to find one that gave me a brighter picture. Now that I've had the tv for a month, the picture is even better and I've set the "custom" picture to my liking.

This is my second Panasonic television and I've been very happy with the products to date. I decided to upgrade to a 42" from a 27" flatscreen and I am Extremely happy that I did! I've had the new set for just over a week and can't find anything about it that I would change. The picture is so clear and precise in HD that I finally enjoy watching TV again! I didn't think it necessary to get a 1080p just yet and am quite satisfied with the 720p. Next on the list is a Panasonic Blue Ray player!

Once the TV was set up in my living room, it brought the room to life. The size fits perfect. I am very impressed with the picture and quiltiy of color. The sound is sharp and makes movie watching almost as if I was at the theater.

I waited a LONG time to buy my first flat screen TV, mainly because of price but also because I had a hard time sorting through all the brands and features. I'd wanted an LCD but the price, quality, Panasonic name, and features made this TV hard to pass up. (I bought it at Sears for $599, free delivery, and old TV removal.) Power Use: It's Energy Star rated. Through my Killowatt meter the TC-P42X1 shows 0 watts when off (little or no standby consumption) and between 150-180 watts switched on. Resolution & Plasma vs. LCD: Among the up-to-$1,000 TVs in the stores I couldn't tell 720 and 1080 apart. The next most inexpensive set I considered, a Toshiba 40" 1080p for $800, is equivalent in picture quality (but has lousy speakers). I will add that the days are gone when the plasmas on display outclassed the LCDs; there isn't much difference anymore. Size: I sit 9 feet from the TV and it seems huge. Most broadcasts are still 4:3, which translates to a 33 inch diagonal picture

I purchased this panasonic plazma, hdtv,42", 720p, by reading, of the ratings. in consumer reports. The picture is very sharp, with very good color. The samsung plazma, model 4272, I had lasted only 3.5 yrs. A very poor record. Will never buy another samsung product.

I ordered this with free shipping at a better price than any local outlet was willing to sell it for. The shipping was perfect. At first I had this connected to a standard analog cable signal and even then, the picture was better than the standard tube TV we had before. When the HD service started, just wow. Plenty of connections, lots of features, and a great picture make this plasma a super deal. Amazon also came through with a great price on a fully articulating wall mount which has performed fully to my high expectations.

I have been searching for a tv for some time now and decided it was time. I went to Best Buy online and did a lot of research and came across this beauty!
To be honest with you what caught my eye first was the $599.00 price tag . At the time it was on sale from $899. That was a big savings of $300.00 dollars which was great. It was the day before the sale ended( saturday) so i decided to go look at the tv in person. i looked at all the others in its class and fell in love with it. The features were great and with 3 HDMI outputs it was what i needed. Everyone else says they dont need the SD slot but for me and my family who take a lot of digital pics, was a great feature. This is a great tv for gaming also. I play every night and have not had a single problem with burn in. I love this tv and recommend it to anyone looking to buy an HD tv. Todays Plasma rules much better than LCD. Go get one!

Upset about the lack of audio output. It only has digital audio output ,no,RCA outputs. It would cost about 3 dollars to have this feature.I now have to buy an expensive surround sound and speakers? The ideal hookup is to output yor audio into your stero speakers. This gives you 2 seperate amplifiers working in conjunction.TThis produces excellent sound, and you can control your sound by remote. So the sound stinks out of the television speakers.A 20 watt amp in the tv cannot be accessed without a surround sound. If you have an analog stereo you are basically screwed.I have worked in quality assurance for a major manufacturer. This would never meet my standards.Someone was alseep at the switch with this lack of audio output via an RCA cable.I am missing good audio which is very upsetting! Best Buy is the best retail store for electronics.Period! Buy an extended warranty! These HD Tv's are not designed to last.I am an ex tv repair tech and expect a maximum of 4 years of sevice.Buy the extended

I got this tv on sale at BB for 599 and its the best bang for the buck out there for flat screen tvs. This is my first flat screen of any kind and here are my observations after 2 weeks of use.
The quality of the picture that you get out of this tv depends entirely upon the source from which you're watching. HD channels - flawless, absolutely flawless. Astonishing picture and colors. SD channels on Comcast cable is a mixed bag. Some stations are better than others. Also this depends upon whether you run the cable directly into the tv or first into the HDDVR cable box which I have found DOES degrade the signal somewhat. Sound is very good and can get quite loud! Standard DVD's are very good as well. I don't have a Blu-ray player and really don't have any plans on getting one because the picture is that good.
I've heard no buzzing sounds from the tv as I've read in another review. In fact I really can't find anything really wrong with it and I'm very critical in what I see and what

I got the TV on sale for $600. Very easy set up. Picture is excelllent. Note it can show up to 1080 interlaced image which is highest level that my cable TV service broadcasts at. Deep colors due to high contrast (30,000 to 1) and no blurring due to high refresh rate (600Hz). All the reasons why you should buy plasma over LCD. LCD's at this price range usually have less than 5,000 to 1 contrast and 60hz refresh rate. If you view TV more than 7 feet from screen you can't tell difference between 720 or 1080 anyways. Stand alone sound is acceptable for a TV but so easy to connect to my entertainment center and get surround sound/dolby when broadcasted. Plenty of connections. Note not a problem that it doesn't have DVI ot VGA connections since you can get adaptors or cables that have VGA or DVI to HDMI connection. Definitely a best buy!

I did a pretty large amount of research into HDTV before I chose this unit. I have been in the IT business for about 30 years now, and I have seen everything from CRT to LCD for small/medium/large/incomprehensible stuff. One thing about LCD screens is that no matter how one tunes the output, many of them produce obvious ghost lines (look carefully -- the straight lines usually stand out, and ghostly seam is about 3 millimeters to the right of the picture). I decided to go with plasma because they are brilliant emitters, and because the picture itself never has the ghostly seams. The VIERA I got does things that are amazing. Black on this unit is black -- any blacker and there would be a singularity involved. I waited until 6/24 to activate HD programming, and made a quick comparison of Spongebob Squarepants. In standard definition, the picture has artifacts in it, but you have to work to find them because of the 600hz subfield processing of the picture. Anyway, in high definition,

bought this tv at a close out store for $192 and iam not dissapointed. picture is awsome especially with the deep blacks. its a 720p but who cares the picture is perfect and to tell the truth i dont see a differece between 720p and 1080p in the end its still an hdtv.

Saw the ad for it and it was on sale so I made a split decision and headed to the nearest Best Buy. Walked in and told them what I wanted. They went off and found it instantly. The TV was the last one they had, floor model, so I didnt get the box but it was in perfect condition. Great customer service. Came home, plugged it in and in minutes I was up and running. Did not have to consult the instructions for anything. Best TV I have ever owned. My friends saw it and 2 went out and got themselves one.

This Panasonic 42" Plasma is amazing! The colors are vibrant and bright. Purchased it for only $600 2 weeks ago when they had their huge TV sale. Best Buy by far! The 3 HDMI inputs are a blessing in disguise since more and more peripherals will hook up using HDMI rather than composite/RF. The box says 720p but I'm curious to find out why my TV shows some stations in 1080i. I thought this was only a 720p TV. I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to newer technology.
The only downfall is no VGA or DVI inputs. Not too worry though, it has S-video so if you so desperately needed to hook up a PC, it shouldn't be a hassle. Also, the remote is large and bulky - you could you it as a landing strip for 747s, no joke - you will inevitably press the wrong buttons more than once.
Other than those two (minor) issues, this TV is a GREAT buy!!!

After weeks of comparison and reading reviews I found this tv to be the one. After a disappointment on the 3rd day of ownership. Tv would not turn on, I contacted Panasonic who informed me they would need to send a service tech out to repair. I declined the offer and promptly exchanged the tv for the same model. I am not disappointed anymore. I had the HD upgrade from dish network and let me tell you it is simply incredible. Outside of the initial issue I am completely satisfied you will be too.

I researched for weeks on which television would be a good buy and what television manufacturer would be the best quality. I finally settled with the Panasonic Viera and did another search which brought me to Best Buy for an incredible sales price. The tv works beautiful and I love it. It is like being inside a movie theater.

With $300 off this product, it was hard to pass up. Now, I'm not using this as my main TV but rather one I will use shortly in a place that my 55" 1080p will not fit. This TV will be used for day to day viewing. The picture is average but decent, the sound is really good, and the features are easy to use. Please do not get caught up in the 600Hz number. It's not a refresh rate. This is a great TV for the price I got it.

i did a lot of research on this TV and was wondering if i should get the 1080p version, but this TV was such a great deal i had to buy it. I am pleased with the TV, the picture is perfect, and its a nice size of a TV. i have my ps3 hooked up with an hdmi and the game-play is so clear. i would definitely recommend this TV to anyone looking for a good picture and price.

I really like this tv it has a great picture and dose not create a lot of heat.
I found my tv on line then went into the store to purchase it. The sales lady also thought it was a good deal since it was on sale. She recommended it over the dynex which was the same price but had the 1080p.

Ordered the 42" X1 on Amazon (vendor:OneCall), no problems with order or delivery. Set up was easy. Beautiful picture, sound is fine, overall we're very happy with the tv. As everyone has noted, Plasma has so many advantages over LCDs and only 1 or 2 disadvantages. 720p is appropriate for this size tv, don't give that issue a second thought. This is a great value for a really nice, good-sized, top-brand TV. A few small drawbacks to this set: 1) Greens and reds are a little too intense, I'm still working to adjust the color 2) Wish there were separate coax inputs for cable and antenna - not sure if a splitter will work or if the tv will scan channels from both sources at once. Surely many people will want to have OTA hi-def along with their cable or satellite? 3) No PC/VGA input 4) Only digital optical audio out - so can't connect to older analog audio or stereo equipment without an expensive converter. Even a simple headphone jack would have solved this. These are minor concerns,

Have owned this TV a week and like it more and more every day. The picture is amazingly clear, vivid, and rich in color, even with my standard definition satellite receiver. While producing a good image in the daylight, this set really comes alive and excels as evening approaches and the room dims. Picture and sound adjustments are plentiful and easy to use, but can always be returned to factory defaults when so desired. When shopping and viewing plasmas and LCDs side by side the LCDs invariably appeared sharper and brighter. In fact I brought one home only to return it the next day. Its image was indeed "sharp", but for some reason didn't seem pleasing to the eye. The qualities of a plasma TV are apparently more subtle and harder to detect in store type settings. In the end, I relied upon the positive reviews on Amazon and other sites and couldn't be happier with this choice. The only negative worthy of note is that the speakers are mediocre in quality and face straight down which can

i have the outgoing model which was also purchased at best buy at a higher price. the specs on this model are better. at home, we have both plasma (panasonic) and lcd (sony). the plasma outperforms the lcd in almost all aspects. it just had to be an lcd in one room as it is a bright room where we do not intend to put any drapes or blinds on the windows. for the price this tv is going, it's a steal. you get panasonic reliability, very good picture quality (check out consumer reports on both counts), the speed and uniform consistency of plasma picture. and if worried about image retention or screen half life - they've been addressed and are things of the past. hurry before the sale ends!

Purchased tv and was able to set it up in 15 minutes after all the cables connected. I like the option to name the inputs since we have so many. HD is very clear and colors are great. Like the many options to adjust colors per input. Sound is great for us.
We have it connected to Comcast HD DVR and the Nintendo Wii has bright colors and not seeing the blur in fast motion as some tvs.

Great TV and the price was better than we expected. Originally set out to purchase a LCD but the salesperson recommended Plasma due to the glass screen and the fact that we have a 7 year old who touches things...so fragile screen out, hard screen in. After comparing the picture I found the picture to be more life like and richer in color. This is a great buy, I would recommend it to anyone looking to enter the HDTV market who is not looking to drop a lot of money.

We bought this at Best Buy after a lot of research on the web. This set is simply awesome! I don't think you could ask for a nicer picture. Standard digital cable is unbelievable. Would highly recommend this. Tired of hearing the plasma trashing by the lcd pushers!

After buying this tv, I knew I had to write a review. I wish I would have bought a namebrand tv in the first place. A few months ago I purchased one of the so called "up and coming" no name brand tvs. I have had nothing but trouble with it. I wont name the company but I know I will never purchase another one of their tvs again. I just wanted a tv that works. I actually didnt expect much from this Panasonic hdtv, but doing some online research I found that they are a very reliable tv. So I bought the tc-p42x1 at BestBuy and took it home, hooked up the xbox and the blu ray player and was totallly amazed. The blu ray movies actually look high def on this set! The picture is so much better on this Panasonic than that no name brand tv. I couldnt believe it! I am very happy with my purchase, and I will never purchase another one of those other "cheap" tvs just to save a few bucks, just not worth it. Buy a quality made tv set and enjoy it! Thanks BestBuy and Panasonic!!!

This is our first plasma. After months of reviews and research we decided on the 42" Panasonic. Excellent Choice!. the 42" is perfect for our size family room. I sit about 8-9 feet. Anything bigger would have not only been a waste of money, but would have been overwhelming. Going from a 32" CRT to 42" plasma was more of "WOW" factor than I thought it would be. This TV has the most awesome picture, great blacks and bright whites. thanks to all the reviews, I was able to calibrate this very easily. I must say, the first day I hooked up to my satellite cable I was disappointed with the standard definition of Dish Network. Once the tech came out and hooked up the HD upgrade equipment. WOW!! I will never go back to standard TV again. Awesome color, The sound is really good, but I prefer the AV receiver. If you have been researching 42" plasma's or if your just not sure if 42" is the way to go. Well, you cant go wrong with this one. Its Great!

I already have a Sharp Aquos 46" and a Panasonic 42" Plasma--both 2 years old--and I love them both. I bought the Panasonic Viera 42" X1 about two weeks ago for $700, and you can now get it for $600 at a couple of places (like one of the other reviewers, I was able to use the "30-day price guarantee" to get my $100 back). The new X1 is definitely better than either of the other TVs I own in terms of black levels, lack of blurring, and power consumption. Connectivity is excellent, with 3 HDMI inputs and an iPod/MP3 connection. The SD card slots are nice, too, although I consider the iPod and SD card stuff to be a fringe benefit and not a core reason to buy this set. I had read a couple of expert reviews stating that it's not possible to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on sets less than 46", and my own experience bears this out. Since I look at high resolution images for a living, I am probably as picky as you can get about image quality and resolution. For me, the Panasonic

Ive had experience with all types of tv's, and this tv is a great for the price. This TV is a Plasma, so you can get that amazing picture, color, and motion right off the bat. This tv also uses less energy than others and doesnt overheat so easily, making "burn in" a thing of the past. This is the definition of a perfect plasma television

I have been going back and forth about what type of TV to get. I had done my research and was leaning towards a LCD TV when I saw this tv in the store. Best Buy staff was really helpful even though they were about to close and answer many of my questions. After some consideration I went with this 720p Panasonic over some of the other 1080p LCDs I saw in the store. The picture was equal or better then some of the LCDs I was looking at and the anti-glare coating helps with glare issues. I love the amount of HDMI connections it has and the picture out the box is great. I hooked up my Xbox 360 to it and it was awesome. Just remember that a HDTV doesn't show TV in HD until you get an antenna or HD service from your service provider. I will definitely look at Panasonic again when looking for another TV.

Bought this TV a week ago from Sears $719. Got free home delivery worth $65. Then a week later price drops to $599, Sears was honest and matched the new price and refunded me the difference of $120. This is my first big TV and I am loving it. I don't have HD channels so it is just a "big screen" for cable transmission. But I watched a dozen or so movies and they look great. At the store I compared the 1080p and 720p side by side from a approx distance of 6 feet or so while they were playing some Blue Ray disc. I asked the sales person to not tell me which is what and in all honesty I could not tell the difference, but again this could be my inexperience. So far I have been watching DVDs at progressive scan mode which is 480p and I felt a noticeable difference when I hooked my DVD player to the TV using component cables instead of RCA TV out. The speakers are nothing to brag about but delivers crisp sound. So I have it hooked up to my Altec Lansing speakers directly from my DVD

First off, this little write up is a duplicate of my TC-42PX14 because I'm told it's the same as the X1? Hi all, I got this set at Costco for $741.out the door. I went down to Costco to find a replacement for my little Toshiba 30" 16/9 crt. I had about $1150. in hand and really wanted a nice 37" or larger LCD. When I got there, I was shocked to find a well informed salesman! He asked what I'd use it for, and I told him, I'd watch upsampled DVD movies in a dark room 90% of the time. He said to buy the Plasma and forget about lcd's (at my price point). So I saved about $400. Anyway, this Panasonic Plasma has one of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen. I'm on the second week with it and 5 friends have come by to see it, only to leave in disgust at the thought of going home to watch there lcd sets! It would seem that resellers, along with web forums are anti Plasma? From what I'm seeing, Plasma is better in most ways! I'm using an Oppo 983 DVD player for my large selection of DVD's

This is my first hdtv, coming from a JVC 27" tube tv. I have had this now for about 3 months. I love the picture, would take it hands down over any LCD you could throw at me, however, I have not researched led tv's, but they are more expensive. For this class, this tv seems to be the best, unless you want the 1080 version for another couple hundred. Personally I cannot tell the difference between 720 and 1080. I would imagine if I had a 65 inch and was sitting very close, there would be a difference, but from 8 feet away on a 42 inch, there is really no difference in picture clarity. The tv emits a slight warmth, but it does not affect room temperature even if left on all day, and seems to be one of the least hot tv's out there, it is barely warm. I conducted a ton of research before buying this and this one seemed to be the best. I am glad I got this despite it not having a vga input, this i a huge letdown, but not enough to get a different tv. They make a converter to convert vga from

This is a great TV, I first bought a Sony 40" LCD that really sucked. i got this TV for the bedroom and after taking back that slow, blurry LCD Sony I'm a happy camper. The Plasma is a much clearer picture and a lot faster TV, I know there's a myth about Plasma's but that's just what it is a myth. i also have a 55" Plasma in the den that hasn't given any problems. LCD is good picture if you stand back 6-7 ft. once you walk up on them you lose alot and see all the pixels. Go with a PLASMA, there is no comparision.

This is a great TV. I purchased this as a replacement for my Vizio 37" LCD that didn't last 2 years. So far I am very happy with the decision to buy this TV. I spent 30 minutes with the salesman looking at different TVs and ended up with this one (mostly because it was the only one they had in stock) but do not regret buying it. Looks great on the wall, the picture is excellent and the sound is exceptional for a plasma TV (much better sound than the Vizio LCD). I highly recommend this TV to anyone. I am also waiting for it to go on sale again so I can get back the $100 I lost. Can't beat Best Buy!!

While waiting for the product to arrive I was in a pizza parlor. They had a 50" tOSHIBA on the wall. It was 720 and the picture looked like #@^T. Then I was worried about my TV being blurry. Then the panasonic arrived. It was unpacked and that night I watched 007. Picture was as good as I hoped for. Hooked it up to my 7.1 surround and now my dog and I watch movies. Well worth the 700.
Also have 2 colleagues from Japan. They said most people prefer panasonic over sony in Nippon. Im going to watch a movie now.

I decided on a plasma over an LCD because of the glass screen-kids in the house-and because of the greater viewing angle. The TV is a 42" that sits anywhere from 4 to 10 feet from a seating area. The picture was beautiful out of the box, remote and settings were easy to use, nice input labeling, plenty of connections including HDMI, no buzzing noises or humming, and sound is great for my smaller living area. No complaints at all so far.

So I wont write a book about this TV, but I'll share my experience best I can.
I spent months deciding on a TV. Did I want LCD or Plasma? 50" or 40"? Panasonic, Sony, or Samsung? Etc etc. I even went to a couple stores and looked at them, that only helped to further confuse the situation.
So after lots of reading online and researching specifics like 720p vs 1080p and LCD vs Plasma, I decided to go with this one. Between the customer reviews, the specs, and the price....I couldn't find anything better.
The color is absolutely perfect! The 42" screen is exactly the right size for my room (couch is about 8-10ft away and its mounted above the fireplace). I mainly watch movies or play xbox 360, and I really had a hard time finding reviews on TV's from people with 360's. I just want to clarify that all my games look awesome! COD4, COD5, Assassin's creed, Fallout 3, all of them look incredible. The only issue is that some times it judders the picture. Not often, and not enough for me to worry,

The TV was awesome, the only problem I had was with UPS, because I live on a 3rd floor I dont think the driver found appealing having to take that big box up to my apt so he faked twice that he tried delivering it, when I called to complain the rep told me I could pick it up at their facility which is 2-30 minutes away, so I had to call again and complain to actually get the UPS driver to deliver, but the TV has awesome colors and the pictures are bright. Perfect for movie watching!

I have become a Panasonic buff. This TV is excellent. First off I have to start with the decision of buying LCD or Plasma. Plasma is the real deal and if you purchase one you will not regret it. Secondly, Panasonic is the gold standard for plasmas. Pioneer is great but they discontinued their plasmas so Panasonic is the way to go. Now this TV. On the CNET review they mentioned that the green and red colors are alittle off on these particular models. On this set the green is slightly a neon color but it is not a dramatic change. You will appreciate the picture quality, especially with a HDMI connection. Video games look great. NBA 2k9 is awesome on this TV! It seems you are watching a real game. Blu ray is great. Overall, this is an excellent buy. The only thing is the ethernet port is not on the back of this TV, which is used for Viera.

I purchased this from Amazon.com, with the scheduled delivery from CEVA. Ordered last sunday, delivery was one week later. Having the option of sunday delivery was great, and the delivery was very professional and definitely white glove.
Two people brought the TV in (carrying properly as this is a plasma), opened the box, put the TV on the stand, powered the TV on and waited for me to check whether there is any problem with the TV. They also offered to remove packaging if I wanted to get rid of it. Sometimes you cannot even get such good service when you pay $100+ for shipping. Given that shipping was free, I was thrilled.
TV is awesome, right out of the box. It looks great, works great. Picture is top notch. I put in an HD-DVD version of Transformers and was amazed at the picture quality. This is my first plasma TV and I believe it is much better than LCD. I had a Samsung 4061F before, and this TV has better picture than that one, despite the Samsung being 1080P and this being 720P.

Set up was easy. Picture i great remote control does what it should and nothing else. It's a no frills remote control which i like because it is simple to use.
The only thing that made me take pause about this tv was the 720p.
I have no plans on getting blue ray so 1080p is not needed. hint cable broadcasts at 720P and only on a few channals. we get around 25 in NC.
Since i bought this TV set to play games(xbox360) and to watch sports what was important was the 600Hz refresh rate.
Sports fans listen. a 60hz refresh rate will allow you to watch a game of hockey or base ball but you will have viewing issues. 600hz is all about speed. I get no blocky or pixilated screens during fast moving objects (hockey slap shots or during movies where there are explosions.).
When i looked at the back end of this TV it has plenty of ports for all my toys and with it's power star rating well it will be easy on the electric bill.
The sound on this TV is on the medium

This plasma TV provides a tremendous picture at a much lower price than you'd pay for a comparable LCD. I had been looking at HDTVs for a very long time, trying to find the right features at the right price. I actually ended up getting mine elsewhere due to a sales price and 36-month interest free financing deal.
There is no motion blur, the color, contrast, and clarity are outstanding. My main worry with plasma was reflection off the screen, but they've certainly solved that problem - this reflects much less than my old tube set, and the only reflection you'll see is off the shiny black bezel around the screen. On the upside, a big advantage of the plasma for me is the fact that it has a substantial protective glass screen, so when my little kids get their grubby hands on it, I can wipe it clean and not worry about the damage they might do to an LCD.
As far as the 720 vs. 1080p goes, I've read too many articles by experts saying that you can't tell the difference unless the screen is

I couldn't be happier with this tv so far, it's perfect for my living room (8.5-12 feet viewing distances) the picture is great, the black levels are solid, and the tv IMO, stretches standard def better than my cable box does, which was a nice plus.
don't let 1080p vs 720p scare you, i had a 46 1080p sony at my old place and while i still love that tv, it cost me an arm and a leg, while this tv (with a pricematch from BB --THANKS JOE!) cost me under 750$ (with 12 months 0%) and from my viewing distances, i cannot discern any noticeable downgrade from that set.
it has several picture settings and is easy to adjust them if u want it more to your liking, and it handles hockey very well.
are there better sets available? of course...
are there better pound for pound ($ for $) sets out there, well, that would be very hard to imagine...this set will not disappoint those looking for a nice picture without destroying their budget.

I recently purchased this plasma and love the beautiful picture and low price. As another posted stated, I also have a 1080P LCD that I spent more on, yet prefer the picture of this plasma. The only downside is a very cheap looking and feeling remote, however I use the cable box remote to control the TV. One downside to that is the volume control with my TWC remote has to be set to TV for this to work, whereas my Sony TV will have the volume change regardless of what "item" is currently selected. Overall, I can't imagine a better value out there on a great plasma tv.

Currently, I have 4 HDTVs in my house. Sony Bravia LCD (less than 1 year old and it is a 1080P), Sony HD Cineza (1080i) in my theater room, Panasonic Plasma EDTV (about 9 years old which I pay a lot of money for it when Plasma first came out) and the newly purchased Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-P42X1 (720P). I can tell you that this Plasma is much better than the $1499 Sony Bravia LCD 1080P. The picture is super clear even just connect it with cable and Satellite. DVD is incredible and you do not need a Blue-Ray player becasue regular DVD is just as good as Blue-Ray on this one. I have all the technologies, cable/DirecTV, Toshiba HD-DVD player, Sony PS3 Blue-Ray, DVD recorder all connected to this set. So far this is the best $800 plasma you can buy. My old Panasonic Plasma which just was an Enhanced Definition and it is about 10 years now and the picture is still looking good. I never had any problem with Panasonic TV and it is a better brand in Japan than Sony. Go get one, you

I just got mine delivered a few days ago via buydig.com, and am very happy with the picture and sound. However, this TV gets four stars only because the remote control and the manual channel setting leave alot to be desired. The remote channel flashback button is in the wrong place - hard to access, and if you want to manually add/remove channels the paging through existing channels via the menu system is extremely slow. In fact, you can't even directly remove the channel you're on; instead you have to start at the beginning of the channel selections (i.e channel 1) and page through all of the channels ten at a time until you get to your channel to set it. This requires a ton of patience with the slow, slow paging, especially when there's a large number of channels.

Upgraded from a 51inch Sony rear projection tv and I don't miss my Sony one bit. Mounted this tv on the wall and saved a ton of space. I was really surprised by the great sound that comes out of this thing. Viewing pictures via the SD slot is cool. Its a tv not a computer so it moves a little slow.
It seemed to me that the Best Buy staff had something against plasma tvs, but I did my research and decided on a plasma. Also this tv went on sale a few weeks after buying, Best Buy credited the difference to my account. THREE CHEERS!!!

I am not a television expert by an means except for having watched it too much for too many years. That being said, this TV has a great picture, more connections than you could ask for and super sound. (Point of fact: it replaced a 32" conventional tv that was 10 years old.) Right now, I am watching the NCAA tourney and I can tell you which players are sweating and how much. I got this at Sears for $899 but the next day, I noticed that HHGreg had it for $100 cheaper. Sears matched the price and knocked of another $10. I chose this set above all the others because of the three years' interest free financing (cost under $25/month). They all seemed the same (LCD/plasma) to me and all of the pictures were great. I was able to take it home in a car. (Sears also had a free install deal on this so if it were wall mounted, that would have been a deal. However, it's on a stand so set up was no problem. Note: install does not equal delivery they were not going to deliver it for free.)

I was going to buy a LCD t.v. from Amazon till I found out HHgregg would match their price. I think Amazon is very trustworthy, I just didn't want to take a chance with shipping problems. I did all the research a human could on the subject, I think I could actually get a job selling t.v.s now. Even though I have lots of windows in my house, I went with a Plasma. I don't regret it one bit. I went to Wal-mart, they didn't have enough selection in Plasmas, because I wanted the best name which is Panasonic for Plasmas. Walmart had a nice selection of LCD tvs, and very good prices. Best Buy didn't want to work with me at all, and their name should be "Worst Buy". With all the new technology out like anti-burn for the Plasmas, people should not be afraid to buy them. The color is so vibrant and warm and crisp. Me and my kids just laughed because we could not believe we got a t.v. so nice. My husband didn't even think he wanted a flat panel, he was hooked on his 32 in crt dinasour t.v.. Now he

I did alot of resesrch about LED and Plasma, 720p and 1080p. When Panasonic designed this plasma they created a winner all the way around. Picture is as good with PS3 Blu-Ray as with any 1080p I have seen. It was easy to set up and the gaming mode is awsome. I was skeptical at first about Plasma, with burn in's and poss. over-heating. This TV does not even get warm after 2 hours playing a game, and while in gaming mode the picture not only is wonderful but burn in is not a problem at all. I have done everything I can think of to see if any retention remains present with perfect results every time. It also has an option called pixil orbitor. I have mine set at every minute, which changes the pixil position, and no!...you can not see the change while viewing the picture at all. The 600hz speed leaves alot to be desired in many much more expensive TV's, you will never see a flicker in this TV. TV life is 100,000 hours, At $899.00 this TV blows away TVs in the $2000.00 range. I feel for the

I got this TV home, unpacked it and had it up and running in about 15 minutes. It has a beautiful picture!! I calibrated it with my AVIA DVD and it was really close to perfect right out of the box. I sit about 7 - 8 feet away from this TV and I have to say that HD and Blu Ray look awesome on this set!!! If I had a 1080 right next to it I'm sure I would see minor detail differences with the Blu Ray but I don't so I am REALLY happy with the pic. The remote, ah the remote... in a word, it sucks! It really doesn't bother me as I am getting a new universal remote today. For the people who can't get the Comcast remote to work with this TV, use either 0250 or 0051 for the code (I can't remember which it was but one of them works).
I was gonna buy the 42PX80U as they had it on sale last week for $699, I placed the order online and got an email later that said it wasn't in stock. I called the 800 number and they couldn't find it anywhere so they offered me a few no name TV's which I declined.

THIS TV IS FANTASTIC!!! THE SOUND IS AMAZING AND VERY LOUD, AND ALTHOUGH I HAVE A SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM, THE SOUND FROM THE TELEVISION ITSELF IS VERY LOUD, COMPARED TO MY 32' TOSHIBA HDTV. THE PICTURE IS VERY CLEAR AND CRISP. I DID NOT HAVE TO ADJUST ANY PICTURE SETTINGS. THE ONLY SETTINGS I DID WAS PUSHING THE BUTTON FOR AUTOMATIC T.V. TUNING OF CHANNELS, AND I INCREASED THE BASS AND TREBLE ON THE SOUND AND ENHANCED THE SOUND OF THE BASIC SETTINGS, WHICH MADE THE SOUND EVEN STRONGER. YOU CAN CHANGE THE SOUND TO SURROUND SOUND MODE, TOO. OVERALL, I AM QUITE IMPRESSED WITH THIS MODEL. I HAVE NOTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY. SET-UP WAS LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES. STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, THE STAND WAS PLACED ON THE T.V, IT WAS PLUGGED IN, AND THEN THAT WAS IT!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TELEVISION. FOR MY FIRST PLASMA COMPARED TO LCD IT IS WONDERFUL, AND AS I PREVIOUSLY STATED, THE PICTURE & SOUND IS AMAZING!!!

First off, you must custumize the picture settings or else the tv looks bad. 720p looks ok for watching cable, but DVD looks incredible. No need for 1080p in less you plan to watch blue ray, otherwise you're wasting money. I also bought a monster s video cable which definitely helps when watching DVD. Speakers are nothing special. For watching movies I would suggest a surround sound system. The TV remote is annoying. You have to switch back and forth to the tv remote to adjust volume and comcast remote to change channels. Another thing I heard once you lay a plasma flat, it screws it up, so I will have to wait and see because the Best Buy guy didn't say anything about it and layed it down in my car. On that note, I got the exta warranty (4 years) because the manufacture warranty does not cover anything. I was looking for a smaller tv, but plasmas do not come in small sizes. Therefore, Lcd would be the alternative, but after researching, the best 32 inch Lcd cost about $1500. So as you can

I had been researching TVs for about two months before I found this gem. My previous TV was a 27" Sony Wega standard definition, which has since been demoted to bedroom duty. I had my eyes set on either an LG or Samsung, but when I saw this on display at the price listed, I jumped on it. I was originally undecided on whether I wanted to go with a 720 or 1080, as I've read the difference when watching TV is negligible. But, I knew if I could find the right 720 plasma made by a brand I trusted, and with impressive contrast ratios, I'd go for it. I also didn't want to spend over $1K.
I got home and it installed very easily. I was waiting for HDMI cables (birthday present), so I had the TV running in standard definition for a few days. I was pleasantly surprised at the picture quality in SD. After a few days, I swapped cable boxes to get HD, and wow, my jaw met the floor.
Playstation 3, even running at 720, is absolutely astounding. Going from SD to HD with the PS3 is like

First of all, the experience I had at" Best Buy" was excellent, the sales people, once they learned, I had done a lot of research and was pretty sure of what I wanted ....they just answered my questions. Then I got the TC-P42X1 home and found it was a breeze to set up (get the least expensive HDMI, they work great), and forget about the 720 compared to the 1080P. This 720 Plasma will blow you away. I dare you to tell the difference with side by side sets. Oh, I'm sure there "may" be a slight difference when watching a blue ray disk but for me its mostly sports and music and I could not be happier with the choice I made. A basketball game or tennis match on this TV is something you need to experience. Forget about those high end TVs and I'm sure you will be very pleased.
