Took no time to set up. Preview is quick. I took it out of the box & started scanning in 15 minutes with no hassle. Scans look great in Photoshop. I scanned several photos in no time. Very compact too. I love it.

Pros: Great scans, high resolution, FAST.
Cons: Power cord and USB cord are in the front by the buttons, kinda unwieldy.
I do agree with other remarks I've read on this scanner that the cord placement is extremely odd. But for the price and the quality of the scans, I'm willing to overlook it. Plus it's fast to scan, love that.

Pros: Grat resolution.
Cons: Not so easy to use.
Totally outrageous scan quality for the price. It takes a while to figure out how to use it. It is not as simple as my older scanner, even though the resolution is much greater.

I've been putting off buying a new printer until my old one was so worn out it barely operated. Researched this one online, liked what I saw, and took the plunge -- and am ever so glad I did. Hubby says it was extremely easy to install. After I played around with the controls a bit, I found it was easy to operate. And the image quality!!! Even the black and white documents I've been scanning come out razor sharp. Love the fact that the cover expands to accomodate books, too.

I bought this for my wife. I worried that she'd struggle to figure out how to use it, get it set up, etc. because she's not much of a computer person. I turned it over to her and she put it to immediate use with her business. I never had to trouble-shoot it for her. Seriously: you can't imagine what a relief that is nor totally what that says about this scanner's ease of use. Do you have a laptop and need a scanner to go with it? Then this is the one you want.

A rare gem that lives up to it's name: Perfection! 1. Install the software. 2. Plug it in. 3. Perfect scans. The product is trouble free and the pixel quality exceeds the most discriminating image requirements. I've never been happier to give a glowing endorsement!

I've used this scanner for about a month now. It is a vast improvement over my old HP flatbed: there is no warm-up time and you can turn it off so that it does not suck power continually. The software allows you to run basic color and contrast corrections on the fly, with no need to scan and then rework in another program. The scans themselves can take quite a bit of time if you want good detail, but I would prefer quality to speed. I would recommend this to friends as well as purchase it again.

I bought this for my husband to scan his baseball card collection. It was extremely easy to install the software, and very easy to use. The scans come out beautiful. For the price and convenience, we couldn't have found a better scanner.

My first project with this was collecting many pages from some rare boat design books. The V30 did this job fabulously well, in addition to the very detailed drawings including some black and white photos that were somehow improved off the printed page, making up little multipage pdfs with ease and dexterity. Actually saving the files went quite slowly at first. Then by happenstance after a new boot, speed suddenly was more normal. I just keep an eye now on what other system resources are in use on my five year old Mac Mini and all goes well. The software does seem a bit awkward. For example, if you're at the Edit Page and discover something amiss on one scan, there's no going back to redo just that one. It's use it or lose it all. There's a welter of settings to understand and select for the perfectionist. And the online manual lacks the polish of the actual device. Luckily, the Auto mode works pretty well. No trouble with the USB, though you'll have to get the order of power ons and launches / power offs and exits proper, something I've not noticed with other peripherals. The top works nicely as advertised. This thing would be cheap at any price. At $55 I'm amazed.

I don't know how I did without this, and I don't know why I waited so long to get one. If you've wanted a reasonably-priced stand-alone scanner, the Epson Perfection V30 is perfect and well-worth the investment. I, with minimal technological incline, have never found an easier computer peripheral to install and use (except, maybe my mouse). It's perfectly simple and the images are always perfect. When Epson says PERFECTION, they mean it. I bought this slim, lightweight scanner for the express purpose of scanning items--mostly bulky books--for online sales. For my purpose, it is simple and easy to use. Although the image deck is smaller than very large books, the unique scanning deck cover allows me to place and scan even bulky items safely and easily. Cropping is a snap. Need more or fewer dpi to accommodate a persnickety website--no problem, just select from an easy to find drop down menu. Preview always lets me to see what I'm going to get. Operation is whisper quiet. It is an attractive addition to any office and it works, well, PERFECTly.

PROS: Easy to use, lightweight, scans nicely, software is user friendly. CONS: Scans pictures, documents upside down. Comparing to an older Epson 1650, this one rates poorly.

Scanner has decent capabilities, but the scanning software supplied is confusing and ponderous to use. Scans are ok, but not with great accuracy or color clarity.

As soon as I installed the scanner my Adobe Photoshop stopped working. I re-installed Photoshop without success. Has anyone else had this problem? I need both scanner and Photoshop, can't do without any of them... :-(
