We bought the Panasonic SDR-H80 just before our baby was born in late October. We tested it once before she was born, and then used it once in the hospital for a few minutes -- it seemed reasonably easy to use, and the picture and sound were okay. A few days later, on the third use, we noticed that the sound quit after about five seconds of recording -- it would start okay, but then it would just go mute, every time. We checked the manual, read forums and message boards, recharged, restarted...nothing worked. The camera would record, but all sound would quit after about five seconds every time. My husband contacted Panasonic customer service right away, and they suggested resetting the camera using the "reset button." There IS no reset button on our camera! I am still having problems coming to terms with operating this camcorder. The best thing about it is its light weight and portability. While I did not expect HD quality pictures, I certainly believed that the picture quality could be better. Unless there is professional lighting, it is a total waste of time trying to use this camcorder in the night. It is quite suitable for a child to experiement with but an adult wanting to capture serious moments would need to look somewhere else.

I bought this camcorder package in store on Jan 25 2010 and today feb 3 2010 it wont power up. The little bit i used the camcorder i thought it worked good. I zoomed in on the moon man that was cool. However I spent 500 dollars in store and I didnt get but maybe 20 min record time and a couple pics before the camera broke needless to say im not happy

I regret this purchase. The low light shots are very grainy. Daylight shots are adequate, but nowhere near the quality I expected. Wish I had gone with the Canon.

Received a good price on black friday so thought I'ld give this camera a shot. The camera is worthless - video quality is awful unless you have a large amount of light which if you are using indoors happens very little.
