I wanted a simple dvd player with very easy setup- This dvd player was perfect. Very inexpensive for a great name brand product. I usually dont buy name brand because they're too expensive, but not this one. I have had it for a few weeks and haven't had a single problem. I use it daily to watch dvds with my son. I don't really know how many cool features it has, because I dont use many of them. I do use the zoom feature and it is very easy to use.

A very nice unit for a low price. After replacing another Sony unit that was 10 years old, this unit is doing the same job in a fraction of the space and for a fraction of the price.

This is a great value if you just need a basic player. We use it for our TV's at our church to play study DVD's and it works great. Setup time was easy and just plugged in and you are ready to go.

Has everything I needed for a DVD player for bedroom. We are only using for movies so didn't check out music features. As for the movies, we are playing on an old CRT and the picture is very good. Everything you would expect on the remote for ease of use. Very happy with the purchase. I have had it for about a week.

Bought this as a present for my girlfriend and she uses it while at college due to her old one dying. I'm not a fan of sony personally, but I know their video equipment is great stuff.

I guess Sony figures that you have to get up to change the DVD or CD so why put an eject button on the remote, but it is the first DVD I have ever owned that did not have the button on it. Hmmm! LOL But I still give it a 5 Star, it's a great DVD player.

Sony products have withstood the test of time famously; always quality, always current with design and multiple features of all kinds. The only thing ever found wrong with a Sony product ;typically, is that really light feeling your checking account feels after purchasing the brand. I was pleasantly surprised by the value of this player and the ease of use. Plug and Play!

This was a gift for my sister who knows nothing about operating anything mechanical. She loves it, easy set up and great price and she is already watching movies!

I needed to replace my DVD player and did not want to spend a fortune. This product was just what I was looking for but I was a little hesitant to buy it because it was SO cheap. I finally did buy it because I trust the Sony name and I am not disappointed. Great product, low price, easy to set up!!! I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a no-frills DVD player!!!

Purchased for my kids for xmas. So far so good! We like the easy set up. We have to move it from TV to TV. For the price I am going to go pick up another one.

Very good value for this Sony DVD Player, around $38. Just wanted something for the kitchen and this works very well for my needs. It is small and sits well on top of a small TV. I have used it many times. It is easy to use and the remote is simple to use.

I have a 5 year old tv, which by today's standard is antiquated, but the dvd player makes it look like my tv is hd. It has crystal clear picture, volume adjustment, which I love and even my 8yr old can play his spongebob with the remote. It is not complicated at all for someone that just wants to turn the tv on and watch a good movie clearly!

I bought this for my 76 year old Mother to replace the one she had that broke. I chose this one because it was a Sony for only $40.00. She loved it so much and said it was VERY simple to use which is important to her so I went out and bought her another one for the bedroom.

We are now on the second player after the first one skipped horribly then the sound on it went out all together and we sent it back and Amazon replaced it. We now have played 2 (brand new) DVD's on this one, and it is already starting to skip. No, we do not have a thundering herd of elephants living in the house. And no, the disks are not dirty, they are brand new and personally checked by us to be sure they are ok. We are also both electronics people so we know how to set this stuff up and how to troubleshoot. So we must conclude this player is a piece of junk and you get what you pay for or don't (what, you thought you would get something good for thirty seven bucks? get real - we're about to). 2 thumbs down on this garbage.

Overall, a good price for a name brand product. The product was easy to set up and very easy to use. Product is lightweight and compact to fit anywhere. The product is black which fits in well with a glass top TV stand or wood.

This is a very nice machine with a high quality picture. Easy to install. Was disappointed that the remote does not have an open/close button. I have to go to the machine to do that.

In brief: It does what I want a DVD-player to do, and at a great price. Why I gave it 5 stars: We usually don't watch an entire DVD in one sitting, so a player's ability to "remember" where it was after being turned off/on is crucial to us. This one does that. Even better, it "remembers" the most recent SIX discs, if we happen to change discs before finishing some of them. A sales person at a a local store told us that "all disc players do that now." Well, the one he sold us (Toshiba) did not do it, and the fine print in it's manual confirmed that it couldn't, so back it went. Other nice features (that I assumed all players have, until I tried some of them): It starts up very fast (about 15 seconds, and, as a bonus, just pressing "Play" turns it on and starts the disc if there's one already in the tray). Fast-forward shows a smooth picture at 2x and 4x, rather than jumping from scene to scene. There's also a "slightly faster/slower" feature (1.4x down to 0.6x, in steps of -0.2)

This unit is great for the price. The picture quality and sound is fine, especially since I run the DVD player through my surround sound system. I wanted to buy a Blu-Ray, but cost was a factor.

For the money this little thing is fine. Disconnected my old one and plugged this one in and ready to go. I do not see any remote eject/close and mine is up under a stand so finding the open/close button is tricky - only thing I don't care for - but can live with. It's really small so that's nice.

I haven't purchased a DVD player in probably 10 years so when I opened this box, I was shocked at how small and light this DVD player is! It's a couple pounds, about half the width of my cable box and slightly longer than a magazine (to give you a visual). The quality is great and for the price, it's a must! I'm considering purchasing another one to replace my huge, old DVD player that takes up half of a shelf of my entertainment center.

It is unexpensive and small. However, it has poor quality and poor design. I haven't had time to watch movie yet and it was mainly used for music. It operated very slowly. After inserting a disc, I would wait for more than ten seconds before it started to play. The wrost thing is it failed to power up the unit after I bought it just a month. The repaire service is poor too. I shipped it, at my own cost, for a replacement and I waited for ten days without any upate from them after they have received the unit. I called them in and was told that they didn't have any status yet and would let me know when they have found it out.
I will not buy any DVD players from Sony again.

This product is a great buy for anyone. But the cables they give you work but the yellow cable didn't work I called sony and they said we can't do anything about it. so I got my old video cable and hooked it up very easy so the unit itself is outstanding

this dvd player is a great value; would be perfect for a second tv, in a dorm room, or in a first apartment. I had no problems setting it up, and it is easy to use. It's silly to assume that a player that costs this little would or should perform as well as a player that costs hundreds more. It does what it's advertised to do, and the quality is exactly as I expected.

We've had this DVD player for almost a year now, and it's worked great. We purchased it as a replacement for one that was new but didn't work. Startup time isn't bad and if you stop a movie, it will resume in the same spot you left off at. The one downside that we've noticed is that the DVD tray is very thin, so we're careful about putting DVD's in, but are more concerned when the kids want to put in a DVD by themselves. The DVD player itself is very small and fits well in our entertainment center. The different video output options are great and have worked well for us.

I bought this at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago. The old RCA I got in 2001 finally crapped out and I wanted a cheap replacement. I chose to pay a little extra for the Sony (I've always been a fan of their products) over the Magnavox since I am dissatisfied with the few Magnavox things I own. I wasn't aware this was a rebadge of a Phillips according to another reviewer. That does surprise me. But it's pretty good nonetheless. Over the last week or so I have used the hell out of it while taking some time off work. Build quality is fairly sturdy. Retail discs and at least 6 different brands of burned discs all worked well without a single error and all had a reasonable load time. The text & display menus are a little crude but that's to be expected of a cheaper player. Surprisingly it has a rather wide range of settings/options. It does have a front time display which alot of the cheapies don't. The remote is OK but it lacks the zoom button that I like to use. Remote response seemed

I have this DVD player connected to my secondary TV (Sony LCD 32 inch). I picked up this DVD player locally and brought the first one back, because something inside was moving as I shifted the DVD player - sounded like loose solder across the bottom of the player. The second one was OK. I purchased this DVD player, because of the following useful options: 1. Multi-disc resume from a stopped position (6) 2. Multiple sound-fields through the TV, which transfers through to my Sherwood stereo amplifier, two small bookshelf speakers and an unpowered sub. The sound-fields add punch to movie and TV soundtracks. 3. Multiple picture modes (Dynamic, Cinema, etc), including a custom mode, which I can manually adjust the picture in greater detail. This works great for some of the TV series on DVD with grain. 4. Does not up-convert - This is what I wanted - a basic DVD player, with 480P progressive output. 5. The remote will control my TV power; volume; and TV input (video 1, component 1,

we got this because our other, more expensive, dvd player didn't play certain undamaged and damaged discs. This one plays it all -- the picture quality is just a little less crystal clear than our more expensive one but good enough.

At first it was hard adjusting to the limited means of playing my old LPs, especially with belts on turntables wearing out, styli going bad, etc. But equally discouraging was the discovery that, with the exception of those cheapo disc-sized players sold at the drugstore for twenty bucks (made by GPX, Emerson, Coby, J-Win, etc., and guaranteed to last a week or two), the major companies--Sony, Panasonic, etc.--had given up on CDs as a medium altogether (young people rarely buy CDs anymore). So I was beginning to despair of finding something other than my computer drive for playing CDs. Then the idea came to me (slow and late, as usual). Why not look for an "ordinary" DVD player, if one still exists (it won't be long before even the "upconverting" models are history). This Sony is less expensive than the disc-sized portable players I had once used--and it's no more than the size and weight of 2-3 of those little frisbees. Incredibly compact, yet coming with an ample-sized remote and

Easy, simple and fast and great price! I love the fact that it is compact and opens and closes fast. Also,it starts play time fast. The down side is that if you lose the remote control then you cannot forward or rewind. The only way to forward, rewind and volume is through the remote control. The DVD itself only has the Stop, Play, Eject. Great product I highly recommend it especially as a second simple and straight forward DVD player to own.

Before purchasing this product, I researched and reviewed possibly hundreds of dvd players. I wanted the most for the little amount of money I wanted to spend. I needed a small, sleak, reliable dvd player. After deciding on this dvd player, I continued to review the product's reviews, hundreds of them. I found some to say it never worked right out of the box, but that was possibly only 10 or less claiming such things. Products may not always work correctly the first time, and so after reading reviews of 1-3 stars stating ridiculous things such as "it has no eject button on the remote", (you have to walk to the dvd player anyways to take out the dvd, so who cares about that feature? Not me! My last dvd player had that feature and to be honest I never used it.) I decided to make the leap and purchase. I love the 6 disk memory, I use that to the max. It was simple to set up, just plug in and go! The remote is easy to use and even came with batteries. Overall I have already recommended this

What a deal. Bought this after an old dvd player broke. Not blue high HD or anything, but then I don't have an HD tv. Use this dvd every morning when working out, play old hour long tv shows and so far so good. The dvd player and remote work well.

This DVD player is a really great deal! It's really small (thin and not as wide as most electronics) and works great. I haven't tried a damaged disk but it mostly gets used for Netflix DVDs which are never in perfect condition and it has yet to have any trouble. My tv's kinda old so I probably wouldn't be able to tell if the picture quality were perfect or not but it seems fine to me. This would be a perfect gift for a grad.

I like this dvd player a lot, but there are some functions on it that I am unable to use;why, I don't know. I love the design and sleekness of the device;however, I'm not really liking the fact that I can open it with the remote control, but I have to close it manually;overall though, I would have to say that It is definitely worth the price I paid for it.

Ordered a Coby from Amazon first, unit failed after playing 2 DVDs. Went for a Sony SR200P/B and it was a good decision. Sony player does what it has been designed for without complaints. Price is reasonable, quality is good, nice design. Highly recommended.

I was surprised when I looked at the Sony DVP-SR200P/B DVD Player, how inexpensive this player was. I remember buying a 4 head VHS VCR back in the 1980s paying over 4 to 5 times as much, and that was for a monophonic VCR! I coupled the player up to a shelf-system stereo that I bought in the 1990s and I have the equivalent of surround sound. While it may not match the 1080 dpi resolution of the Blue -Ray system, it is good quality.

This DVD player can mesh right into any home theater system. Let me clarify a few points. Lets talk about the video. This DVD player has component output for video and can deliver a smooth 480P. A component cable can and will carry the same resolution as an HDMI, minus the audio part. Ok, this player cannot upscale regular DVD's. But trust me, you don't want to upscale regular DVD's to a 1080 format. It looks like crap. I tried upscaling on my PS3 Blue Ray player only to get crappy results on my 53 inch HDTV. All HDTV's have component inputs. Coming to the audio as far as a home theater is concerned. It has got a coaxial audio out which you can plug into a receiver and enjoy the nice 5.1 surround. Again the HDMI is useless as you want the receiver to play your surround sound and not the TV in a HT setup.. All set and done, this is a good DVD player for playing the standard resolution dvd's. If you want to go the HD route, consider a Blue Ray player for pure not upscaled hi resolution

If your HD set does a good job with upscaling and you therefore do not need an upscaling player, go for this one -- I have the Sony KD34XBR960 which is a true test for any player and this is the best 480p picture I ever saw. Outstanding quality with video options that do not cause the usual harshness and color bleed associated with picture enhancement.
It's also very compact and lightweight, with the unit buttons conveniently placed on the top for easy access since discs cannot be ejected using the remote.
So don't let the $40+ price tag fool you.

A dvd player that is under $50, works well, good picture, and installs in 40 seconds, seems like a good deal to me. In addition, it's very sleek and small, looks nice -weighs next to nothing. Perhaps after I' ve had it longer something will pop up, but right now I'm a happy camper

This is a fantastic DVD player for the price. It has great picture and sound. It also has a digital audio out, a 480p component out, and a standard composite out. One other great feature is the remote. It is a remote made to do the job. The only trouble is that to use the zoom, you have to hit the display button twice, and then select the top picture.

I got this DVD player because my old one just died. I didn't need anything really complicated since I don't watch movies 24/7 and I don't have an HDTV to play Blu-rays on. I just wanted something simple for cheap and this turned out to be a great buy. It is easy to set up, and functions perfectly.

This is such a great little DVD player. The picture quality is excellent, it was really easy to hook up. I love it too, because when you rewind a movie it tells you in the display, so you never miss any of the movie. Plus it's a nice looking player.

If you burn a lot of dual layered dvd's on your pc, this unit will play them back with no errors. You cant go wrong for for under $50. Works better than my $300 LG Blu-Ray. Though it has no HD upconversion, the picture is still crisp and clear.

I don't understand how this player got such good reviews. It NEVER works without freezing!! I can go through 10 dvds and every one freezes, even when its a brand new movie. I also notice the top of the dvd player gets really hot. I manage a video store and bought this for my employees to use and get nothing but complaints from them about how they can never watch anything all the way through. Horrible player.

Sony DVD has been used nightly during 2 weeks of ownership, for 1-2 hours at a time. Stopped loading disks tonight, "cant load disk" error, clicking noise. The prelude to this was the disk froze mid-playback, then got worse from there.
Purchased Sony unit April 4th 2009. Sony was purchased to replace a Toshiba XDE500 purchased in January 2009 - XDE died first of April (also stopped loading disks). Toshiba XDE500 was beyond return period, so I ate that $80. Chose Sony based on price, DTS, Dolby Digital and Progresive Scan playback. Sony is going back to Best Buy tomorrow, well within the 30-day return period. Sony picture quality was acceptable, but it took a lot of adjustments on the TV (Toshiba projection TV Cinema Series, component connections, coax audio, Yamaha Surround receiver) to get a clear image.
Remote required clear line-of-sight to function, and button response was poor (multiple depressions to activate desired function).

This player plays all my DVD, Video CD, computer produced disks, and all others I own. One great feature is that it continues from where it last stopped. This is especially useful since I seldom sit through a complete movie.

I bought two of these by mistake and didn't realize it until they arrived. Since my husband's ancient DVD player was still working, he didn't want the extra one, but we decided to keep it for a spare. After he saw how impressed I was with mine, he hooked the other one up to his TV. We both love the player. The controls are SO easy to see and operate, the quality and features are excellent, the unit is small and lightweight, and you can't beat the price!

I had a few disks that would not read well with my other players, so I thought I would try this one because it advertised as being able to read bad disk. I didn't expect it to work, but it did. Kudos! Nothing fancy, but now I can see my movies. No Super VHS connection though, but picture quality is good with RCA connecions.

The remote does not have an eject button. The whole thing feels kind of cheap and it stops, pauses, freezes, and skips on DVDs that worked fine on my last machine. I wont be able to return this pup fast enough. Judging by the reviews, I thought this thing was fantastic. Forget it. My last DVD player lasted over 4 years - this was ridiculous.

I was looking for a cheap DVD replacement since it seems all of the spare DVD players in my house crapped out at once. I've always had issues keeping track of the remote (so many kids, so little time), that's why I decided to go with Sony. Their systems are pretty friendly to Universal remotes. This DVD player is pretty easy to setup on the Comcast remote as well.

All I wanted was a good, basic, and inexpensive DVD player . . . and that is exactly what I got.
Although I have played only one DVD, I really like this player. Machine response time is quick, the remote keypad is designed well, and the playing of the DVD was flawless.
For $40 and free shipping, I am very pleased.

This is a very good player for the money. I needed a cheap dvd player for the bedroom for a while now. I bought an insignia and a cyber home... both were JUNK! So I picked this one up, and NO problems!
Im so glad to see a name brand come out with one at a good price. I knew it wasnt going to be blu ray quality, its a $40 player. And thats what you get. But it is not junk by any means..
Im going to buy a second one for my daughters bedroom.

I only wanted a DVD player for playing mp3's off a DVD disc. This one fails miserably. Mainly because there's no random shuffle. That right there is an oxymoron to release a DVD mp3 player and have it so it only plays tracks linearly off one folder? Stupidity. You should be able to throw a disc it and it should have an option to randomize the entire thing. This one doesn't.
It also stresses use of the inferior 128Kbps mp3 data rate which hardly anyone encodes with anymore. 224Kbps and this thing chokes.

I bought this (at the local store) because my old DVD player would pause now and then. I got it home, hooked it up, and it looked great! Seems to have better color than the old one, somewhat. HOWEVER, when playing my home video DVDs, many of them had a non-functioning menu! The menu buttons would not highlight or select. If I pressed the play button on the remote, they would play, though. Then if I pressed the menu button, the menu usually would then work. That was bad enough. Then I tried a DVD I made that had 5 submenus. The main menu HAD NO BUTTONS AT ALL! Pressing play would only play the first set of chapters, no way to get at the other four! This DVD worked FINE on another DVD player in the house, though. So, I plugged my old DVD player back in, and the DVD works no problem! The DVP-SR200P is now back in it's box, sitting up in the attic. If you do your own home video DVDs, I definitely would NOT recommend this player! For this reason, I give it a 1 star (extremely) poor rating.

i had no problem with the dvd tray easy to take out and put in dvds - it IS a little fragile so yes maybe people with small children should put the dvds in themselves. For me its just perfect perfect size perfect price good picture and sound i'm very pleased i was upset when my 8 year Panasonic DVD played its last scene today and went looking for another one today- i was told by the Best buy clerk that he recommened it and i agree this is a great dvd player- easy to set up i love the progressive scan dvd part no more searching for where i last left a DVD because i dont want to keep it on still i've had no problems with the color or remote either.

Sony. Small footprint. Good sound and video. Comes with RCA cable, so I ordered component cable to improve picture clarity. I'm very satisfied. Now we can easily watch movies in bed. For $39, this is a great deal for use with a second tv. Enjoy.

Purchased in conjunction with a new TV as a family Christmas present. Easy out of the box set-up, with minimal tuning needed. Very narrow profile, which was one of the key factors in selection, in order to fir existing entertainment center.
Only major drawbacks are in the load tray. It is fairly thin/delicate, so not recommended if you have younger kids loading DVDs on a regular basis. Removal of a loaded disc from the tray is also very difficult, as the recess is deep, below the edge access cut outs on the sides. Best unloaded by pushing the disc up from the under side of the tray.
While certainly not perfect, this is a nice piece for and inexpensive price.

Excellent picture and sound quality, nice compact design, looks expensive but isn't.
As mentioned before, the front-panel display is rather crude, but what do you expect? It's Sony's lowest-priced DVD player, AND a lot of DVD players that are around the same price don't even have a display on them at all!
Excellent choice, you will not be disappointed.

Thought the specification states that it has an optical audio output (TOSLINK), I went to the store today and there was only Coax Audio output. If you want digital sound you will have to buy a Coax audio cable which will add $20. Other than it, this is a great little machine. It's dimensions are almost half the size of a Toshiba or Phillips.

I purchased this for my own use as I have an extensive dvd collection. It is really handy to play a disc while there may be one on hold in my other player. The "Little Sony" plays very well, a lot like the same commands my large one has. One of the important things for me is to be able to see the status while it is playing..this has easy to read numbers that light up. The audio/video quality is excellent. About the only disappointment is the remote doesn't have a eject button but you have to insert the disc anyway so just press the button on the set. Overall I am very happy with this Little Sony, for the price you can't beat it!

The price is GREAT but Sony needs to do two Major things:
The remote & Cheap looking readout screen on the dvd's player need to be fixed/improved.
Make a true "multy system remote" so that, the tv that you hook up the dvd player to, can be controlled by the dvd's remote. The only thing that you can do (now), is; turn the tv on & off. I have a Sony tv BUT I cannot change channels with the dvd's remote. Also, make the remote more ergonomic. The remote needs to be better layed out. It is cramed and buttons are too small and too close together. If the lights are off and you try to hit pause.... yeah right (Good luck!!!!)
The digital screen readout on the dvd player's face is CHEAP!!. It is dull and blah looking. It looks like an "Analog" counter! Make the digital readout at least TWO lines and make the dot matrix of the readout more "re-fine".
It is called "DOT Matrix" NOT "DASH MATRIX"
The current display makes a nine look like this: [ ] rather than like this: 9

I chose this unit for its simplicity and compatibility to an older TV set
It hooked up great although I had to do it through my VCR vs TV set
as there was no single cable or converter included to do this.
My older DVD player and VCR would not always work with new
tech DVDs produced in the last year or so, they skipped and stalled.
This unit plays all DVD discs, NO PROBLEM and with crisp clarity.
Get It, for the price it's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a fan of Sony products for various reasons. Mainly Sony products usually cost extra for the Sony name. This little DVD player is not the case. It is a great no frills Sony Product without the typical Sony price tag. I could not find a better value and I am pleased with this buy. It is small and sleek and works well with my under cabinet TV. I am actually going to buy a second for another room.

I received my dvd player in the mail today. I decided to test this machine out before i gave it as a xmas gift and i'm so glad i did or i would have been extremely embarrassed. I put in a standard dvd in the dvd player and it played for 12 mins before the machine froze up. I then had to unplug the machine and wait 10mins before plugging it back in. I decided to try another dvd which only worked for 2 secs before it froze again. Now i'm in the process of trying to get my dvd out of the machine. And i have tried unplugging it over and over again and i still can't get it out. I wanted a dvd that wasn't fancy and for 45 dollars i thought that would be great. Just because this project is on the cheaper side doesn't give them the right to make something worthless. Don't buy this project, it will be a waste of your time, you'll just end up having to take it back.

Set up was a breeze. Only tested a DVD to see if it worked and for picture quality. Very pleased with what I've seen so for. Easy enough to use. Never even opened the manual.

I actually have the DVP-NS57P/B model which is the one before this one. From everything I read it is the same but the model BB now sells has the shell of the Sony upconverter model. I am using Y/Pb/Pr comp cables and a digital audio cable hooked to a 720p LCD HDTV and the picture quality (after you read the directions and set it up) is really good for a 420p player.

I bought this product looking for a cheap DVD player and therefore wasnt looking for anything specatcular. While it was cheap in price, the picture quality was so bad it was impossible to even watch 10 minutes of a DVD. Worse than any VCR I can remember - resembled a two-tone color picture. I hope I just happened to purchase a faulty player because if Best Buy is knowingly selling such an awful product then I will no longer shop here...
