Like the macbook
It gets really hot.
But other than that i havent had an issue with it,
I have 1 macbook, and this macbook pro
and my brother has an imac,
I love the apple computers
but the service sucks,
and the repairs are expensive.
But over all i love them.

I just got rid of my 5-year old power book and this is a completely different machine. It's beautiful, light, and thin. I do a lot of video editing and this is the perfect computer for it as I also do a lot of traveling. If you only want a computer for word processing and surfing the internet, then get a pc, but if you want to work with video or graphics you should have a Mac.

There's a reason everyone raves over the Macbook Pro. I think it was originally an Elvis album that proclaimed 50,000,000 fans can't be wrong. Well I don't know what the score is...but it's probably close! You cannot go wrong with a Macbook Pro. Right outta the box it is ready to roll. Boot up and immediately start enjoying the newest iLife suite. Whether it's creating music, producing your next short film, or organizing your photo collection. It's a simple as pushing the power button. Switching from a PC, no problem! The fantastic Leopard OS is so simple and beautifully designed, you'll wonder how you ever did without it. And forget about security issues...no such thing with a Mac. No more spyware or viruses, ever.
Do yourself a favor and pick up the best and last notebook you'll ever need.

I am very good with computers, and have been a long time PC user, but after using Mac for about a month now. I AM NEVER GOING BACK TO PC.
I play World of Warcraft on it perfectly at full power. Everything is very wisely done on it.

This would be the first Apple laptop I bought and I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm guessing it takes a lot of getting used to, especially if you're a long-term Windows user. Setting up was a bit more complicated and confusing than I thought it would be; first it took me a while to get it set up to the internet but with a little fooling around I found an easier way than what was given to me. The way files are arranged and accessed is completely new to me so I'm still trying to get used to it. The key and touchpad response is a little weird though; sometimes the keys wont go down all the way so sometimes it skips a letter or two every now and then and if you adjusted the settings for your touchpad to recognize the option button it could be strange at first because it's a one piece touchpad- so not everything is going to work flawlessly on it. Overall I really look forward to using this laptop more often. I only had it for a day.

This is my first MacBook, at the beginning it was a little confusing getting used to the Mac OS but after some time and the tutorials on Apple.com it became easier and fun. The thing I love about Macs is that they have an awesome design, but aside from the looks it has superb functionality. There are so many things that are great about it, takes about half the time to boot up compared to a pc, the touch pad it's awesome for editing pictures for photo enthusiasts like me, the programs and applications are strong, Mac OS X has a lot of apps that will help you in real life, good battery life, the LED screen is amazing, it works quietly you can take it to a library and get some work done, works fast, the OS is so stable you can mix and edit music and it won't give feedback and static to the speakers, Apple's support is the best I've experienced from all laptop manufacturers that I've ever owned, that's just to name a few of the good things.. I think now why didn't I buy a Mac before?

This machine is very well made and runs very fast. The only thing is that it is expensive but I think that it is worth it. Also the computer is kinda of large but this you know before you buy it.

I've been a PC since 1990. My latest computer, a Dell laptop with Vista, was driving me insane. After buying the iPod, the iPhone, and AppleTV, I finally broke down and bought this MacBook Pro. Out of the box, it was simple, fast, and super easy. I thought it would take me some getting used to, but I've picked up fairly quickly. I mainly use the computer for internet, email, Office, music, audio, and watching video, and this computer is more than enough. The biggest hassle was moving all my files from the PC to the Mac. I know that it's not cheap, but it's so worth it. My name is Kyle and I'm a Mac.

Do not believe the people who say that the Macbook Pro is not worth it. Notice how they almost certainly by the way they review it do not own one. I was a windows user since the first windows came out. I always thought that Macs sucked because there was just so little software you could use with it. You can run Windows on it if you want or just by Mac versions of Office and other programs. Let me tell you......I bought my Macbook Pro a year ago and it without a doubt is the best computer I have ever bought. Since I bought mine I have bought my Wife the same model and both of my Daughters the basic MacBook. These computers do not crash. I had to restart my Windows Vista computer ever few times I was on because of it freezing. Macs don't get all of the popups Windows gets either. What a blessing the Macs have been. I 100% recommend them!

I researched this and the HP X18 A LOT, I'm so glad with this purchase. i love windows movie maker, imovie doesn't seem as easy, that's my only complaint. but i'll figure it out. it was really expensive, but i don't plan on buying another one for a very long time.
Highly recommended. so beautiful.

From the first, the Mac has run perfectly! It has the easiest setup.. a few steps and you're done and all connected to the internet via airport. Unlike the 15 min wait for 1st time bootup on Vista! This is about 5 mins or less.

I love how all the programs just work together.... you'll understand more when you start using them.... ie: you can drop a file on the mail icon and it opens up an email for you. Make sure you buy one of the switching to a Mac books, lots of helpful hints.

Biggest thing was finding compatible programs for the Mac that I used on Windows.....a little searching is all it takes. I do still have 3 windows computers in the house (two gaming computers and one laptop). I'd switch them all to a Mac if I could.

If you are computer literate and want a change from Windows, try the Mac. I found I do not miss Windows at all!

What can I say. This is the first MAC that I have ever purchased. The aluminum design is sweet. The backlit keyboard comes in handy when the lights are turned down however, the keys take some getting used to if you have never used a MAC. I installed windows XP using bootcamp and after the first week I don't even use windows anymore. Once you get used to all the mac programs and command functions, you will wonder how you lived so long with a PC. The "Featured MAC Basics Tutorials" on apple.com make it a lot easier to use your new MAC. The boot time is half of a PC based system of similar specs. The battery life is also great. The MAC software that came with my MAC BOOK PRO is flawless. The Multi-Touch Track Pad is also something that takes some getting used to but once you get it down, it's awesome. The mag-safe power is one of the best new improvements I have seen on a laptop in years, every laptop should have a mag-safe power supply! My download time averages 2.1 mb a second on verizon

This is quite possibly the only computer you will ever need. With the ability to Boot natively into windows *AND* mac it has the ability to run any and all software out there. Speed, reliability and portability make this the best laptop choice for the money! The higher price can be a put-off but apple hardware has one advantage over all others. Its entirely apple controlled hardware so no tracking down drivers. Most all accessories work right out of the box when plugged in and automatically adjusts to the network you are connected to.

Laymans terms:
For the non-technical user, this is a great computer. It has an extremley fast cpu, or the brains of the computer. this computer also has a lot of ram, and very fast ram. This macbook pro also has a big hard drive for storing lots of pictures to relatives. I extremley like the Wireless card as it is the most advanced card available in the market. The laptop is very reliable and i have had 4 Macs before this and not a single one has broken ( I kept getting a new one for better technology), and i would highly recomend this computer to anyone.

Technical User:
This is the greatest computer for any technical user out there. I know im going to be bashed for the high rating but i can justify. the value for price is great because it is the only gaming laptop that is thin and light. the display is brillaint. the LCD may only be 1440 * 900, but the LCD makes it worth it. if your looking to play games i would recomend buy windows XP form best buy. This laptop is really great. the screen is very bright and very clear. the laptop is really fast, even with the standard hard drive. the mouse is great because you can right click and left click like any other computer. a simple setting in the preferences allows you to set this. the OS is very easy to use even for new users, my wife who had never used a mac learned it in minutes. the back lit keyboard is really nice, especially in dark lit rooms. the 9600gt video card is nice, and makes the games look nice. the mouse has cool features pulled from the macbook air to allow multitouch features. The setup took about 3 minutes with the opening video, and connecting to the secure wireless network was a breeze.

now the not so good, the edge of the computer is not rounded enough and took a bit of getting used too because i was resting my wrists against it and it felt a tad sharp. i just repositioned my hands a bit and it was fine. the magnetic power plug pulls out a little too easy, but

I use to be a PC user and like they say... Once you go Mac you never go back. OSX interface is so user friendly. I use my computer and never have to wait for the virus scan to run which usually took most of my PC Performance.... I don't have to worry on defragmenting my PC..... OSX solves all those problems that are the main cause for a computer to crash. I love iLife 08 it made my computing experience more efficient.... Also CS4 on my Mac runs like nothing else.... Im able to work with Photoshop, InDesign and all my favorite programs with about worrying that my computer might crash and loose all my work.... Also Im a PRO DJ. It has made miracles on the dance floor with Logic Studio and Serato unavailable. I LOVE MAC

I was hesitant to switch over to a mac after being a dedicated PC user for a long time. However, after finally switching over, I can't believe I waited so long.

Easy to use straight from the box, took literally less than 2 minutes to set it up. The interface is superb, graphics are great. At first it was hard to get everything set up, such as knowing what programs to use to watch shows, download, photo edit, etc. But surely, it was easy to get accustomed to.

I do think that the price is a bit spendy, but it's an investment worth having. Especially with macs, they keep their value if you want to resell it in the future. I do recommend getting the best buy warranty with it, just in case... It's an investment you want to keep around.

This is the best computer/laptop ever! it takes less than 3 minutes to set up, it powers up incredibly fast which im not used to after upgrading from my super slow pc. Its so powerful. I can run so many applications without it freezing up or waiting for things to load or being slow, the new trackpad is so nice. I set up my sisters new vista laptop and i hated using her trackpad after getting used to this one. This is the best computer/laptop everrrrrr

To me, a pro level computer has all high end parts, is reliable, uses the latest technology, and you pay for it. The only think from that list that the Macbook has is the high price.

On the plus side, the build quality id generally pretty good on this computer. The "unibody" design of all aluminum is a great concept. But when you fill it with last years or two year old technology, it's a nop sale to me.

I thought Apple was supposed to use more cutting edge technology than I see in this "pro" computer. The LED screen is nice, but low rez with no way to get a decent screen. No blu ray option here, please look elsewhere.

Bottom line, this is a good mid-range computer that tries to pass it self off as high end. It isn't. For what it is, it's fine, albeit overpriced by 25-33%. As a high end computer, it just isn't.

I have been a PC user for ten-years and after many months of consideration, purchasing a Vista machine, and then selling it; I settled on this MacBook Pro. I fix computers and create websites – this machine has more than enough power to keep me happy. Like many Windows users that switch, I have found virtualization software (VMware Fusion) to be a blessing because I have some Windows software that I still need to use for school. Don’t get me wrong, I do not hate Windows – I like the freedom of being able to work in Mac, Windows, or Linux all on one machine. I really enjoy how fast this machine boots up and shuts down – I can actually bear to wait while it comes on – I push the button and see progress right away!

The disc drive does make some odd noises as it pulls a disc in or pushes it out, but that’s not anything to be concerned with. The slot loading design is really nice compared to the flimsy trays that are used on many laptops.

It might cost more than comparable pc in specs, but really you can compare specs by specs since this is Leopard, pc is vista usually which runs slower than vista on same hardware. This machine is very fast, but its harder to buy this since macbook is almost as powerful but for gamers like me, that want 2 machines in 1, this is great workhorse for photo's, movies, music. And also for games, don't believe me check out pcmag review and test on this computer, it runs crysis on medium around 40fps when hp with higher specs runs it around 20. I love this computer, all the cons are forgotten after you use this thing, probably has best fit and finish.

The good part about the compatability issue, is that i still have my PC - so for the rare occassion when i bought something not mac-friendly (like disney digital cameras) - i just use my pc. sometimes it's just not worth the hassle to get something done on the mac, so it's nice to have a backup - at least for the first year of the "switch". this is my first mac, and yes, the mac is ridiculously simpler than windows. it almost makes you angry at microsoft when you find out how easy apple has made it.

I have been wanting to go Apple for a while. I thought this release would be it. On paper, this looks great. In practice, the design fails to make the grade for what I need in a notebook.

First, the monitor. It is a lower res than I would expect in a "Pro" model- this is a base-model screen with NO OPTION TO UPGRADE IT. I need- and expect (at a "Pro" level!)- at least a 1600 pixel monitor in a 15", not this 1400 pixel. Colors are way too blue (probably can be fixed). Gloss screen looks nice, probably should have a matt option.

The second design mistake scomes when actually using the machine; all the ports are on the left. I like to use a mouse on my right. The cord cannot stretch from the left side and leave enough slack to use the mouse. In fact, most periferals I would use would be on the right side.... but all the ports are on the left. Inconvenient to say the least.

I just find it odd that this is represented as a "Pro" level machine when it lacks many things

I've been waiting years for a pro-level Mac and I really think Apple outdid themselves with this design. I almost bought the Mac book since it does have better performance than previous models, but I felt it time to upgrade to Pro. If you can afford it, I recommend upgrading because the performance level won't leave you disappointed at all. This has always been the case with the pro-level product. I am most pleased with how cool this laptop stays. Everything else speaks for itself.

Picked up my new MacBook Pro yesterday, and I absolutely love it. I work for a newspaper, so I use Macs all the time with Quark and Photoshop, etc. My work computer is an old PowerBook G4, and this one (obviously) blows it away. These computers are amazing! One of the major complaints I've read is the glossy screen. Yeah, there are a lot of reflections — when the computer is turned off. However, when you turn it on, the new screen is so bright, you won't even notice a reflection. The colors are amazing, and even if Apple called me tomorrow and offered to give me a matte screen for free, I wouldn't do it...and I was die-hard matte screen. Trust me, this is not even an issue.

The new keyboard is awesome...the black keys make it easier to see the letters when they light up...on the PowerBook in moderate light, they blend in too much...Not so on the MacBook.

The glass touchpad is amazing. If you click with your thumbs on your old Mac, you won't even notice the button

Apple's site and other reviews provide the essential information on what was upgraded in this new MacBook Pro (two graphics systems; machined from solid aluminum; new industry-standard DisplayPort video out; new trackpad; other minor changes/upgrades).

But why get this computer rather than the much less expensive MacBook that appears almost identical?

1. The MacBook LCD display is poor. It is not just a smaller version of the MacBook Pro LCD display. It has washed-out blacks, poor contrast, limited viewing angles, and less vibrant colors. This is a huge difference. I confirmed this with a side by side comparison in the Apple Store (and the store staff member agreed), and you can find further discussion at gizmodo dot com (gizmodo.com/5063492/macbook-and-macbook-pro-dual-review).

2. The MacBook Pro's excellent new graphics chip (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT) can be used to speed up all operations (not just graphics) when the new Apple operating system (Snow Leopard) is released in January.

Apple is notorious for constantly updating their products, more or less to keep up the status quo on their products. The new Macbook Pro is no exception. This beautifully constructed laptop is a work of art in many ways in which i will detail.

SCREEN
The MBP has had a beautiful screen for as long as i can remember and this new model is no exception. LED lit means that it is "instant on". when you open the lid, there is no warm up time like there is with other screens like LCD ect. The colors pop and are extremely vibrant and true. If you have seen an older MBP screen, you've seen them both, kind of. The new screen is all glass. The glass extends to the very outer edge of the lid, leaving no empty space. Simply put, you can't find a better screen, not even on a Sony machine (and i love sony also).

KEYBOARD
The new MBP has an updated keyboard. The first thing you will notice is that the keys are black as apposed to the old silver. The black adds a nice touch because it accents

It's well worth it, and I don't think I could live with any other computer. I made the switch 4 years ago and I've got no plans to go back whatsoever. Also, never had a problem getting applications that do exactly what I want. OS X is a very well supported operating system.

Nice, you have any ideas for apps yet?

I just found this on Gizmodo and thought it was interesting: The Life of an iPhone App: Nasty, Brutish and Short

I'd like to start by building an app for Hawkee. Maybe something similar to the Facebook app where you can check your friends' activities and notices. It really depends on how much time it will cost me though and what other projects I have in front of it.

That post makes a good case for building apps that have long term value, so that really supports my idea to do a Hawkee app.

So I finally got my hands on this thing and all I gotta say is Wow! The screen is simply amazing it's so crisp and bright. It's quite snappy and all around a spectacular notebook. I've even got XP installed through VMWare Fusion so I can run mIRC again after all these years.
