Although i did not buy this item thru Amazon.Com (I wish i had), i find the unit wonderful. It is easy to use and the picture quality is outstanding. However, the instructions are pretty much useless and if you are a novice at electronics, i would suggest that you purchase the install card. I however found the unit Easy to install myself. The biggest problem was how to mount to the ceiling. The headliner in my 2005 Kia Sedona is very rigid, so i was able to brace above the headliner and attach the mount bracket without drilling into the frame. It works well in my situation and has been for the last 6months of weekly use. Sound from the unit when moving is unhearable. The FM Modulator on the road is useless also. You MUST have wireless headphones to enjoy the unit. Be certain to purchase IR headphones with an IR Transmitter to use with this unit. You won,t be disappointed. The unit itself is very light in weight and somewhat flimsy, this however, has nothing to do with quality and i love the way the screen turns from left to right. I highly recommend this product. The very first thing that one will see when purchasing this unit from Amazon.com is the "Frequently Bought Together" image of the GX2148 and the XO Vision IR620 headphones. I don't know why this is because the GX2148 DOES NOT OFFER IR CAPABILITIES. The emphasis is there so potential customers don't make the same mistake as I did in purchasing this unit thinking that it is IR headphone capable. It is not. After ordering it and having it installed ($225) thinking, based on the listing, that it had the capability of IR headphones (I even ordered 2 of the headphones) I was contacted by the installation people to tell me that the unit works fine, but it doesn't work with IR headphones. Once these units are installed in a vehicle, they cannot be removed without leaving major marks on the ceiling (the headliner is actually cut to install them). Just to make sure that the installers were not mistaken, I contacted the manufacturer to ask them if the unit was IR headphone capable. They confirmed that it was not and shouldn't be sold that way. As far as the unit itself is concerned, it's a sub-$200 in-car DVD player. Most in-car DVD players are above the $300 price point, with some going as high as $900+. This one is every bit of a sub-$200 unit, as are many items that are engineered and built in China. Be careful when having young children operating this unit. Unlike most units that have a motorized insert and eject system for DVDs, this unit has a push button to open the DVD, which is then pushed onto a spindle and the door is closed on top of it. Removing a DVD can be difficult for someone with very small hands. One positive note is the FM transmitter, which is very powerful. The FCC has forced many electronics manufacturers who offer products with FM transmitters to reduce the output power of the FM transmitter. This makes many of those products useless unless they are sitting right next to the vehicle's antenna. Not this unit. It broadcasts a very powerful FM signal, so if you have a habit of staying in the same geographic area and don't mind broadcasting the sound over the car's FM radio, then this is a good feature. The only problem arises when you travel to an area that has a radio station that broadcasts on the same frequency as the DVD player. You will then need to change the signal on the DVD player in order to continue listening. I ended up having to remove this unit, as IR headphones were a must, and replace it with an Audiovox unit, which was double the price. It also cost me another $100 to remove the unit, install the new one, plus another day in the shop to have this done. Cool features on the unit include SD and USB capabilities, as well as an auxiliary input for a video game. Overall this unit rates a 2 out of 5. If you're in a budget, this unit is OK. If you can spend an extra $200, go with a better unit. Always check the exchange and return policies of who you are buying it from in case that needs to be done.

I purchased this unit and it took me about 5 hours to properly install, as I had to remove 1/4 of the headliner to properly mount the unit. It plays well, however, it does NOT have IR audio as the manual states. I have contacted customer service many times, and they advise to purchase their model IR320 which includes an IR audio transmitter. So do NOT buy IR620 headphones for this unit, they do not work. As others have mentioned, the included audio from the unit is very weak and poor. As well, the output to an FM station is kind of weak also. So besides the audio and VERY POOR customer service from XO, it is a decent unit.

This product works great! But, for my surprise, amazon.com advertises this product with the XO vision wireless headphone as a "Frequently Bought Together". The problem is that this model does not have an IR transmitter and will not work with a wireless headphone! In the XO Vision website they do specify that this model GX2148 does not come with an IR transmitter, and the GX2147 does. But in the amazon.com website it advertises that you can buy this model GX2148 + the wireless headphone. If you want your wireless headphone to work DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL. Otherwise it's a good product.

Firstly, let me state up front my one major gripe about this DVD player: the documentation is not very spectacular, especially the documentation regarding the installation. There is an included wiring diagram (12V+/-, Dome Light, RCAs for input/output, etc.) but no template for cutting the headliner, no pictures describing how to install, etc. I recognize that this sort of thing is probably not made with the do-it-yourself-er in mind, but some rudimentary instructions would have been appreciated so I wouldn't have had to make it up as I went along!

Having said that, however, the thing works pretty darn well. The DVD player itself is integrated into the back of the LCD screen and works similarly to a DVD player in a computer - pop open the lid and press the DVD down onto the spindle locking it in place, then close the lid. The DVD motor is fairly quiet and the disk loads quickly. The screen opens to about 90° and rotates around the central metal post so that it can be aimed at the driver or passenger... a nice feature when you need to adjust something on the screen and your backseat children are too little to use the remote.

The FM transmitter has a small range of frequencies that can used to interface directly with your car's FM tuner, but the frequencies don't extend the full range of the FM spectrum, so it's conceivable that you might not be able to find a station in your area that is sufficiently devoid of FM signal; this means that the FM transmitter might not work spectacularly in your area because of interference with other stations. If you turn the FM transmitter off, you have the option of playing the sound through the small speakers included in the unit that lie directly underneath the hollow that the folded screen occupies. These speakers are of average quality and low volume, so they probably will not be spectacularly functional during noisy highway driving. There is an RCA line-out that can be used to interface with an existing input on the car's stereo, if one happens to be present.

The included USB port seems to work quite well - choosing this input brings up a file-browser menu that allows you to select the file that you wish to view. I tested the functionality with two movies that were encoded using the XVID (open-source DivX-equivalent) codec and the movies played extremely well.

The build quality feels a little cheap, but one must remember that this is a budget model. The good news is that the USB functionality helps to guarantee that player will continue to be useful in the event that the DVD drive ceases to work.

The unit certainly works as advertised, however, the built-in audio amplifier is certainly weak... using wireless IR headsets (not supplied) solved the audio problem... but trying to listen to the audio without them, especially while driving is almost impossible.

The internal speakers don't go loud enough. The car has to be parked in order to hear them. That wouldn't be a problem if the unit had a head phone jack so the rear passengers could listen to their show without the front passengers having to listen too. Over all the product seems to be of good quality and a good value, (similar to a $300 unit in my other vehicle.)

It is an excellent product, I am very pleased with the purchase.
Easy to install, fast and secure.
It has a total weight of 5 pounds, but to install it you realize that only weighs 2 pounds.
