I bought the TERK antenna, but it kept cutting out on me and I would have to get up and move it. I bought this RCA antenna and it is much better than the TERK rabbit ears. I have it next to a window, and it works better with the cable stretched out.

I was excited about trying this new "amplified" antenna. Wow, it pulled 9 channels when my regular old bunny ears antenna from the 70's pulled in 22 channels. What a dissapointment. Please don't waste your time buying and then having to return it. I tried it in 8 different locations in my house with the same results. I took the time to write this to warn others not to make the same mistake. Nidia in Tampa, FL.

I initially placed the antenna in a convenient spot, a few inches above the television. I received many stations well, but had poor reception on one local station and missed another local station entirely. I then moved the antenna to the top of a nearby closet, which moved it up about 5 feet above its former location. The difference was dramatic: suddenly I was receiving all the local stations perfectly, and doing well with many of the distant stations, too. The instructions with the antenna mention that you should place it as high as possible. They aren't kidding!

Have had this antenna for about a month now and find that it makes little difference, particularly with the amplifier inline and powered. We are using it with a Westinghouse SK26H730S TV. No visible difference in indicated signal. Maybe defective? Just bad location? Don't know. Programs are still intermittently breaking up. At least before DTV we could tolerate less than perfect broadcast reception and still follow the program. Those days are gone. Live in central metro area. Really hate the idea of cable or satellite tv. Sounds like other have had good experience with this, it hasn't been the magic bullet here.

Must be the reception where I am. I'm using the antenna with the amplifier and my reception is not that good. I lost 2 channels that I had before DTV and this antenna. Oh well, live and learn. DTV stinks.

Product first seemed inadequate to provide additional TV stations, however, once HD change took place additional local channels were available. Product itself seems to do what it offers.

Ordered off of website. Tried every possible way to get this to work, used advice from other reviews. Returned item to Store 300. Was tretaed very well and they took the item back. Salespeople in store said that this item is usually returned. Did research on RCA Website and this item is supposed to work. I think there may be a quality control problem at RCA. I also noticed the shipping was terrible. The item was not packed very well in the box.
The top of the UPS Box was crushed. The box for the antenna had been opened. I noticed I had the greatest effect on signal strength by moving the Coax that came attached to the antenna Signal strength from less than 10% to around 38%.

Unfortunately, after buying this for about $40, I'm going to have to buy another antenna to do the job this one won't.

Most channels come in fine in good weather, but there are a couple that only come in if I hold the antenna up to the window and adjust the angle just right, and then it still jumps in and out. This is not what I expected from the most expensive antenna I ever bought.

Even the channels I do get require repositioning the antenna here and there -- it is NOT a set-it-and-forget-it antenna as advertised, and I wouldn't be able to neatly mount it to the wall as pictured on the box.

Flat design was easy to place. There was one station that should have come in, but I could not pull it in. Overall it is a good product for the price and out performed the similar priced Apex amplified antenna by a mile.

I have the converter box and used this antenna to improve reception. It performed flawlessly for the week or two I had it before the digital transition (June 12). Since then, it doesn't get three of the major stations in our area even with signal booster. I went back to the rabbit ears and get all the stations.

Just so you know, $49.00 for an antenna is kinda high priced. But I got it on sale for $29.00! I replaced an RCA passive rabbit ear antenna I recently bought. I kept having to readjust the antenna and it was getting on my last nerve. So I researched on line and I read that you don't have to keep readjusting this antenna. So I decided to give it a try and if it did not work for me, I could always take it back. I hooked it up, looked for a place to hang it and some of the channels were heavily distorted. I laid it next to the tv and the same thing happened. I then laid it flat on the floor next to the tv stand and BINGO! Almost all of my channel bars went to blue and the few that didn't, went to green. The color was more vibrant and my HD channels were all that HD stands for. And it don't get pixels when I walk by the tv like it did with the other antenna. I recommend trying this antenna. You have to move it around til you find strong reception. They suggest you lay it flat and as well you

I was hoping to find a different brand at the store after looking around online for the best product. I live on the backside of a very large apartment buidling and just wasn't expecting much. This product was 40 bucks cheaper than the one I came for and I am very satisfied with the reception. I have almost 30 channels. This is a great alternative to cable TV, which I was tired of wasting money on since I rarely had the downtime to enjoy it. It doesn't look like much, very low profile. But it does fit in asthetically with my apartment, while some of the other apartments are not so cool to look at. I say give it a try!!

It is not as good as my old rabbit ears. It does not catch the closest channel which was extremely clear before (it has lines going across it similar to issues with weather on DirecTV). However, there is no weather issues at that time.

...it didn't work for me. The rating should really be for the ATSC digital TV system. It makes great pictures but is very finicky to receive over the air in some circumstances--like in an urban area. I'm using a very small stick antenna that came with my Axion AXN-8701 hand held TV set. All was well until June 12 when three digital TV stations moved from UHF physical channels to channels 7, 11 and 13 respectively. Reception vanished for these channels while all of the others--still on physical UHF channels--continued as before. So, I got one of these antennas this morning at Best Buy (for $49.00). This afternoon I took it back. The little stick is much better. Many of the physical UHF channels could no longer be reliably received with the ANT1450. I think this is a matter of specific reception location. The RCA antenna might be great next door. It is just not any good where I am. The best advice would be to give it a try and return it if it is not the one.

Well, I am glad that I am finally getting the basic channels that I use to get with just plain rabbit ears and analog for free! Hang it high on the wall or you won't get good reception when walled into an apartment. Don't forget to rescan after you hang it up on the wall. It only took one regular nail to hang it up! It's like hanging up a picture on the wall, except it's just a black rectangle with a line of cable running down from it to my converter box. Also we added the amplifier which added clarity and a few more channels.

First off, let me preface this review by noting that antenna performance is highly dependent on your location relative to the transmitter. Clearly, some of the other reviewers had a different experience with this item than I did... Maybe they're in a better location than I am; who knows? Anyway, keep in mind when purchasing that your mileage may vary.

That said, this thing was a complete waste of my time and money, losing out to a simple $10 set of "rabbit ears." I typically get six digital channels, three of them strongly. To test, I tuned in the strongest of the six and swapped out the rabbit ears for this RCA 1450B... And got nada. Tried all different positions (horizontal, vertical, upside down, aimed out the window and all around the room) and the best I managed was a weak audio-only. Then I plugged in the amplifier and tried it all again. This time I managed to get a picture, but far lower strength than with the rabbit ears and full of artifacts and distortions. Scanning

I read the reviews here as well before making my purchase, but didn’t see any comments from my area. I have the RCA 9.99 antenna in my room and I get channels from 60 miles away, crystal clear! I added this to my 36in Dynex TV and got the same channels I had before with and without the extra amplifier. I also had tons of digitization which was a total pain. When I removed the antenna all together and attached my coaxial cable back to the DVD player (or any piece of metal nearby) I got all my channels again minus digitations. This will go back in the morning.

So I read reviews on this thinking either its going to work or not work...I was prepared for both.

I have one HDTV and one DTV ready TV. This antenna worked like gold on both!

I did have to change change the Antenna setting on both TVs. Both were set on cable.

I'm about 10 miles from all the major towers so I don't know if that helps since I just positioned it where it fit not where the signal was. It just didn't matter. I heard that aluminum siding can interfere with signals but I have NO problems.

I should add that the analog feeds were TERRIBLE but when I did a channel search it pulled in all the Digital and HD signals, which it all that going to be available in June 09 anyhow....so I can see how people complain about the analog signal.

I can't believe I've been freaking paying for cable! I will miss HGTV and ESPN but I have all the main stations I watch in HD for free!

I don't know why some people are having problems. I use this antenna in my kitchen with a roof and electrical wires above. This is the best unit for the price and works well for digital channels as well as analog. I guess the folks who do not have an HDTV may have problems. For some low frequency channels, I only have to turn the box about 20 degrees in the "flat" position and it clears up any problem. When I search channels with the HDTV, I get 18 digital and 9 analog channels. That is about a 150% improvement in reception over using "rabbit" ear type antennas.

I just got this antenna today and hooked it up to my PC digital tv card and it easily picked up every HD channel in the city of Charlotte, NC. I live in the upper north of the city and it had no problem bringing in all of the channels. Just follow the easy instructions and you shouldn't have a problem.

I believe the reason everyone is having problems with this antenna is the box says it is Multi-direct. but I've found it to be more uni directional. I dealt with picking up some channels and not others until i decided to aim to top of the antenna toward the broadcasts. and it worked much better. I think standing it with the top toward the towers will fair much better then laying it flat and having it "grab" signals. All in all very easy setup. Great Signal quality.

I have been using the converter box for over a year now with a cheap $20 antenna from walmart that worked ok but then i broke it. So i decided to read reviews on this site before going in to best buy. I read excellent reviews about the RCA ANT111 indoor antenna and bad reviews about this antenna. When i get to the best buy store i spoke with the rep, told him I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment and asked him to recommend the best indoor antenna. The rep went straight to this antenna. Told me it is the best to pick up multiple channels without any adjustments. So believing him and not the reviews I purchase it and I also purchased the RCA ANT111. Get home and find that it's not too hard to assemble. I did have to read the instructions twice to make sure I had it right but generally not that hard to set up. After I scanned for channels I was only getting a signal for the PBS channels. BOOO I really thought I did something so I read the instructions again and checked the connections. That

I've had this unit for just at two months and have been nothing but happy with my purchase choice. It just plain does what it advertises.

Currently this antenna is connected to a HDTV tuner that is plugged into my computer and since the first day of use it has outperformed any other amplified antenna I have used before.

Pros:

It's much more compact and easy to place "out of the way" than more traditional antennas.

Once in place you can just leave it be with no need for any adjustments.

Fairly long cables to connect the antenna to your tuner/TV.

Cons:

None that I have encountered to date.

I am located within 8 miles of the three main broadcast antennas for our local TV stations. In fact, you can see them from my front door. All the other broadcast antennas for other stations are located at least 25 miles away which was why I was looking for something that could pull those signals in, all the time.

This little unit does the trick!

Once I had found the optimal location I have

I live in the city of Minneapolis, MN and this antenna gets 1 channel on my TV. The rest of the channels all get "digitized" and fade in and out of reception. I tried moving the TV and antenna to another room, putting it by a window, moving the antenna closer and further from the TV and none of them worked. I have another LCD TV with an internal antenna that picks up at least 5 channels. The rest I should have read the reviews prior to buying.

Noticed improvement when first hooked up to TV, no amp. With amp beautiful pictures and 12 channels. Digital converter not hooked up yet but expect tremendous improvement with reception. Once placed don't need to keep adjusting 'rabbit ears'. Looks sleek and modern. ADDITIONAL NOTE: Please make this a five-star. I have added an Insignia NS-DXA1-APT digital converter between the antenna and my analog TV and gotten digital-quality pictures for at least 24 channels. This is a medium-sized market and I excluded several stations. Again, the quality of the pictures is excellent.

I fired the cable company a year ago and bought the RCA ANT401. It is an amplified antenna with rabbit ears. I could get most channels but had to have the antenna just right to get NBC and ABC without it dropping off constantly. This is with it plugged in too.

With this antenna, I don't need to plug it in AND I get all of the channels clearly without dropping off! I don't even need to place it next to the window, or stand it upight. It is laying flat next to my TV and looks a lot better than the rabbit ears! I live near GA Tech in Atlanta somewhat near downtown. I am getting 2.1, 2.2, 5.1, 5.2, 11.1, 11.2, 14.1-4, 17.1, 30.1, 34.1, 34.2, 36.1, 42.1, 46.1, 63.1-5, and 69.1 now without having to adjust the antenna or with drop offs! Hooray. Just for reference... channel 14.1 - 4's tower is probably 30 miles away.

im an employee at best buy... ive had experience with antennas....

very easy to install. lightweight so it doesnt strip a screw or nail from the wall, and the amplified signal is great! of course in rough weather nothing works well, but i got the apex DT250 converter box to have analog passthrough and all the stations are clear. antenna not so great with analog but who cares, itll be gone soon anyway. many people complain because it feels cheap... who wants a big bulky antenna????

its all about location of your house, window, upstairs or down... people expect the world out of all these little simple products.... c'mon, its $50.. it does its job!

With my new HDTV, I was hoping for more digital channels than the few I got with my old analog Terk set-top antenna. Wrong.

Out of the package it is a very thin, light, cheap plastic device that looks like maybe $1 to make. It is easy to plug in, but only gets one digital channel compared to a few with my old antenna and the analog channels are much worse than before. It doesn't matter if its lying flat, on its side, near the window, up high, etc, its just bad.

If you're hoping to avoid an attic or outdoor installation like me, it's probably better to avoid the hassle returning this antenna and start with something with better reviews.

Performs worse than RCA ANT1250 UHF/VHF Amplified indoor Antenna. The amplifier is not built in to the flat antenna so you have to connect it to the flat antenna and this makes for a lot of coaxial cable. I bought this because I thought it would be more streamlined than the antenna I have now. Didn't work well for me and it turned out to be less steamlined.

This is the fourth over the air HD Antenna I've purchased, and like the rest it is going back. We have one station in Dallas ABC who is not allowing their HD signal to be carried by our town's cable franchise operator. We have many trees in the area and an exterior antenna is out of the question in our neighborhood.
Although the box says this is a "superior" reception quality unit, it is anything but. The only place in our home theatre the antenna could be placed was near a north facing window, which did not work at all - we got equal reception with plain co-ax attached to the cable/antenna switch.
After purchasing an RF signal detector and tracing the pre-wired coax in my attic to the wiring cabinet, and connecting to the secondary cable outlet in the theater room, I attempted to mount the RCA unit in the attic with a southwest facing exposure close to an attic vent. I utilized the AC powered booster, and same signal as the placement in the theater room. This is a worthless piece

If I read the reviews of this product before I bought it, I likely would not have purchased this antenna, and that would have been a shame.

I was getting very frustrated with the new over the air digital TV. With the digital TV you either have perfect reception or nothing. My rabbit ears with amplifier were so touchy that if I moved around the room while watching, I would often lose reception and sometimes had difficulty getting it back. When I changed channels or lost reception I would have trouble finding that exactly perfect rabbit ear position that would magically make reception come back--this was frustrating to say the least. I was getting so frustrated I was beginning to think I was going to have to subscribe to cable.

This new antenna is fabulous. I am now getting all the digital channels, whereas I was missing some with my old antenna. Also, the look of this antenna is so much cleaner than the old rabbit ears. I've placed the new antenna in front of a large window

This is an amplified indoor antenna to use with the converter box to receive ota (over the air) broadcast channels. This pulls in all the "free" TV stations in NYC Metro area. I live in Bergen County, NJ and the reception is fantastic.

The converter box plugs into the TV and has a power cord. The antenna plugs into the converter box and also has a power cord. Best reception is if the flat antenna panel is right next to a window. Also the long cord from the converter box to the flat panel antenna works best if stretched out.

I'm using a power strip for the TV, the converter box and the antenna. Once I got them on the power strip and could position the flat panel near the window with the antenna cable fully stretched out, the reception was full green and perfect on all the channels (except for Thirteen, WNET). Fantastic reception and the digital signal is very good. Highly recommended. Picture quality is fantastic and boy you can tell when you're viewing HDTV.

My 10 year old bunny ear RCA antenna picks up more channels than this model.
Having my older RCA antenna work wonderful for all these years and how well it was made, I was very disappointed with the quality of this antenna the moment I removed it from the box. The feel of the unit gave me the impression that just holding it wrong, it could fall apart.
Though the instructions clearly say not to place the antenna near metal, I couldn't understand the reasoning behind the heavy metal stand it comes with to tilt or place in an upright position.
I figured for the price, it MUST work better than my initial impression and connected it in hopes that the reception would be worth it. No matter how many positions and locations I tried, I could not get as many channels as I did with my older antenna.
It's already re-packed and ready to be returned.

This product was purchased to replace the current non-amplified antenna with the intent to boost the quality and the number of local HD channels received on an analog television set equipped with an HDTV Magnavox convertor box.
The antenna was packaged compactly and easy to transport home. Upon removing it from the packaging, it was easy to assemble. The printed directions for connecting the antenna were clear and easy to follow. The unit itself was sleek in design and unobtrusive when placed upon the television set.
Unfortunately the metal support bar that served as a foot for the antenna did not stay securely in its receptacles. This was discovered when the antenna was relocated in order to improve the reception quality and increase the number of stations received. The support bar fell out and the antenna over turned. In addition to that, relocating the antenna did not accomplish either of these tasks.
In comparison to the older non-amplified antenna, this antenna is a poor

The standard rabbit ears that mount on the back of my TV get better reception then this antenna does, even with the amplifier portion plugged in. Without the amplifier, my digital converter box could not really pick up any stations. With the amplifier plugged in, the reception was almost as good as my rabbit ears. Not too impressive. My rabbit ears pick up 25 stations. I was hoping this amplified antenna would help me pick up ABC as that is the only digital station I did not previously get, but no luck. I do live in an apartment complex though... so I will be looking for something with a bit more kick.
