I bought this HD video projector based on the reviews I had read by other customers and the very affordable price. It was a leap of faith because it was not available for viewing in the store(s). Installation was a challenge because of where it had to be placed and where the DVD player was sitting, but I knew that going in. I found out later that choosing a projector is nothing compared to choosing a screen to project it on. Long story short, once I had it up and running it's better than any HD TV flat screen I've ever seen, with this caveat, only in a very dark room. If you aren't prepared to have an in-home theater room dedicated to it, don't go there - you will be disappointed, almost total darkness is a must. As a sidebar, I went ahead and bought a SONY up-scan DVD player at the same time to view my 328 non-Blueray DVDs, which does a fantastic job. In addition, I used a sheet of 4'x8'x1/2" Gatorboard coated in Behr Silver Screen paint (770E-2) with excellent results.

Only had it for one day, but out of the box it was easy to use and setup. Have played PS3 and watched blu-rays. I dont have a screen yet so just projected a 157 in. pic onto my tan wall and looks great. I cant imagine how good it will look with a projector screen. It is very quiet, and makes virtually no noise. I just wish I had a wall big enough so this thing could reach its potential.. I have a 42inch 1080p 30:000:1 contrast flat pannel TV and I like this projector much better. They both cost about the same, for movies and games this is no question better. This projector has motivated me to redo an entire room in my house to be the Movie/game room.
The picture is clear and crisp no matter what size your projecting. GREAT PRODUCT! IM BLOWN AWAY
The only negative applies to all projectors, the darker the room, the better the picture. Be sure you have a room with lots of room that you can black out on command.

I recently purchased this projector to replace my Mitsubishi HC3000U 720p projector. It took me about 10 minutes to set this projector up on my universal mount and get the picture showing on my 100" screen. I then hooked up the hdmi cable from the projector to my receiver and the sound and picture stopped working about 2 minutes later. I then contacted Denon, since my receiver is a Denon AVR 3806, and they said that there is nothing wrong with the receiver or the projector. My receiver has HDMI 1.1 connections and the projectro has HDMI 1.3 or higher connections. Since knowing what the problem was, set-up was so easy with just connecting the projector to my PS3 and connecting the PS3 to my receiver using the optical cable. I found that the best looking projector pre-setting was "Living". I then purchased Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics on blu-ray disc. After reviewing the reference material, on the disk, I quickly noticed that the settings were almost dead on. I recommend this projector

Over 6 months of looking for the perfect projector. I finally found it in this one. One of the reasons is that I was affraid of letting go of my 50" Plasma and replacing it with a projector and in a bright room to boot. When I bought it, I was really second guessing myself for buying it, I had it professionally installed within no time, When the image was projected for the 1st time on a slightly tan, rough wall and the image was pretty near as good a quality as my plasma! I was so, so, relieved. This projector is installed about 18ft from my 120" HD Mustang screen, in a well lit room, and would put it up against any plasma or HD Quality TV any day, Sunny or Not!!!!!! Definitly a Great Buy.

Bought this to upgrade my home theatre. I truly believed I would not see much of a difference between my 1080i signal that I had become accustomed too. Man was I wrong. This projector delivers a picture that is great. Sharp and beautiful. This right after I had just upgraded my Technics reciever to the Yamaha. NICE.
I felt like the flee in the television commercial WAOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know I had to re-watch all my Blue Ray movies.

DON'T BUY A FLAT PANEL TV!!!!!!
Think that new ultra thin, 62" LED Samsung looks awesome? Yeah it does... UNTIL you see the $3000 price tag.
Let me tell you, as a new owner of the Sanyo PLV-1080HD, you will not regret your decision of buying a projector instead of one of those overpriced tablet tvs.
Seriously, there's pros and cons to projectors--just like everything else. Here they are:
Pros: Any HD programming (720p, 1080p, BluRay) look AMAZING on this projector. I'm blasting a 100" picture onto my wall (without a projection screen) from like 15 feet away, and it's mind-blasting. Not mind-blowing... MIND BLASTING!!!!
You can move the projection image at a whim with a dial and either blow up or shrink the picture to accomodate whatever you need--you never need to move the projector EVER.
It looks just as good as any flat panel LCD or Plasma out there.
I've got a Wii, a X360, and my pc hooked up to this baby, and the Xbox and any HD movies

I have been researching front projectors for about six months. I've watched 1080p projectos come down in price to what 720p were at. I could not be happier with the Sanyo plv1080p. It went on sale for $1399 and my local BB had one left in stock, so I grabbed it. I'm getting ready to start constuction of my theater in Sept. I couldn't wait 2 months to try it, so I bought a inexpencive 92" screen from BBand set it up in my family room that day. This projector is so easy to set up and user friendly, in 20min I was watching I robot In Blu-ray on a 92" screen. The picture is better than I ever thought it would be. Right out of the box the picture was good, go on-line and find the calibration settingsnand you will not beleive the results.
SD tv and DVD look better on this projector than on my 60" sony 1080p sxrd tv. HD tv and Blu-ray are incredible. This is by far the best home theater component I have ever purchased. I ordered a 120" screen and will be reurning the 92" BIGGER IS DEFINITELY

This is our first projector and all I have to say is WOW. I have a 40'' Sony 1080p and this thing is clearer than that! We have it connected to our PS3 and surround sound with a 151' screen and I am amazed. It has exceeded all of my expectations, size, quality, use, price, etc. If you have the space for this (we have it about 22 feet from the screen but it can go bigger and smaller from that distance) I would HIGHLY recommend this product, everyone will be amazed by it, I know we were! Never going to the movies again... thanks SANYO!!!

MY FRIENDS AND I BUILT A CUSTOM 216 INCH SCREEN WITH THIS PROJECTOR. WE ADDED A SONY SURROUND SOUND AND WITH A LITTLE TWEAKING WE CREATED A MONSTER. I WILL NEVER GO TO THE MOVIES AGAIN. PICTURE IS BETTER THAN ANY LCD IN YOUR HOUSE NOW. ONLY PROBLEM WAS THAT THE AUTOMATIC SHUTTER DOES NOT CLOSE PROPERLY., IT STAYS OPEN AND TRIES TO CLOSE BUT FAILS. I CALLED BEST BUY AND AM GOIN TO RETURN IT FOR ANOTHER. I HAVE NOT SEEN AS OF NOW A BETTER PROJECTOR. AFTER SHOPPING AROUND FOR YEARS I DECIDED ON THIS ONE DO TO THE PRICE AND REVIEWS AND IT DOESNT DISSAPOINT. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I recently purchased this Sanyo to replace an Infocus 4805. While the picture on the Infocus was good, it's just no comparison. HD programming looks sensational! Can't wait for football season to start! I also recently added a blu-ray player. It's unbelievable how good the picture looks, projecting onto a 106" screen. I paid $1,499.00, and it's worth every penny! If you have a room big enough, go for it! I can't understand why anyone with a big enough room would settle for a flat screen tv costing so much more.

3 years ago I needed a flat panel for the family room, so I bought a 46" Sony wide LCD, at the time it was a nice jump from a 35" tube TV. A year after that I bought a 32" LCD for my bedroom to replace a 32" tube that quit working. Both new TV's worked great and were connected by HDMI cables right out of the gate. Now we moved our family room to another part of the house, and that room happens to have a nice big wall to cast projection onto, I didn't need to buy any projection screen! I always wanted to put up a projector in that room, and having read the reviews here before buying, I made the jump. Well, I have it all set up and I can honestly say Projection is where its at people!!! My 46" now seems like a quaint little TV to watch, lol. This 1080P Sanyo unit works great, and like other reviewers had said, yes the contrast (dark images are not seperated very much by shades of black) is not perfect, but the 120" image I'm watching blows away the biggest LCD on the retail market by a long

This is the best projector I've seen with the best bang for your buck. I've been keeping my eye on the Sony Bravia SRX for a while now but settled with the Sanyo because of the price. The 10,000:1 contrast ratio isn't even noticable to the human eye so the blacks and whites don't bother me. I have a Sony Bravia XBR4 46' 120hz refersh rate and now that I have the Sanyo 1080 I hardly touch it and it's a shame. I recommend this projector for any first time home theather setupers like myself. I plan to match this up with a Bose V20 so I can connect my PC, PS3, Wii, and have the radio/ipod function. I can't wait.

I am new to the projector world but did spend several weeks playing around looking up various products online and reading reviews, etc. I ended up choosing this one because its was 1080p, 10000:0 contrast ratio and $1499. I really was thinking of the Sony but it was over double the price and my wife being convinced the picture was going to be of a lower quality than the 50" plasma in the bedroom, suggested we buy this one and if we like home theater-ing we could upgrade down the road. Well, this thing rocks. The picture quality is better than I could have imagined. My wife as well as a couple other family members who thought it would look bad were amazed. The response has been "WOW" from everyone. Once I hooked up the PS3 there was a whole different level of amazement. We have made the screen as big as the wall and it looks great. Imagine watching True Blood on HBO where Bill is bigger than you. I cant believe I actually thought about buying at 73" tv instead. Now I will never go back.

This projector is probably one of the single best purchases I have ever made. I had to mud and paint a wall with flat white paint in my entertainment room to project the screen on but the effort was worth it. Now I play Fallout 3 and watch movies on a 13 foot screen in full 1080 high definition. I have it connected to a gaming PC via a DVI to HDMI cable and I play all my favorite games. Everyone is awed by the size and clarity of this screen, a plasma screen 1/3rd the size would cost 10 times as much. I also got a Sony 5.1 surround system and the buttkicker rumbler (room shaker) to get the full theater experience. I can't communicate how pleased I am with this purchase. This Sanyo projector is fantastic, no keystone adjustment is required, just mount it flat (parallel to the floor and ceiling and sides facing the intended wall) and use the dials to position the picture. The projection will not become trapezoidal so long as you keep the projector pointed straight at the wall.

Got this projector after trying 2 others.. First the optoma hd71 which I saw rainbows with. Tthen I tried the sony vpl-bw5 and the hdmi port blew in 3 days. Then I got the replacement sony which had a good picture but placement was limited due to lenshift. After reading more reviews I decided to get the 1080.
Then I picked this one up and all I can say is wow.. This thing rocks. I was surprised to see there is a notable difference between a 780p and 1080. Its got tons of functions and the picture is 1080, even upscaled dvd's look like a hd screen. I was even able to place it on a shelf saving me from mounting it to the ceiling. Even the wife loves it.
If I had to do it all again I would just buy this one.
Kudos to Best Buy for putting up with me and to sanyo for such a great product !!!

This is a one of a kind purchase, your money will be well spent. it's like bringing the movies to your house. the picture quality is superb especially since I'm projecting from a beige wall. if your shopping for a big screen TV for your living room this projector is your best bet, it's lighter and the picture quality is absolutely superb. since buying this projector every Friday and Saturday night it's movie night @ Jeff's house. very very easy to set up Great Great Great Buy!!!!!!!!!

This projector is an amazing value for the price. The picture is amazingly clear and bright, even when projected against my apartment wall. I had purchased a dedicated screen for it, but I returned it because the picture looked great against the wall. Blu-ray movies look outstanding - picture is sharp, and colors are bright without being too bright. Would recommend to anyone.

I absolutely love this projector. I first bought one that was advertised as 1080p "compatible" and boy was I let down. I didn't realize that didn't mean it would project that image, only that it would RECEIVE that strong of a signal and then project at it's own native resolution. I sent that one back and bought the Sanyo, or as I like to call it "Old Beautiful" The image quality is SO GOOD. We have a 42inch 1080p LCD TV downstairs and the picture is just as good, only FOUR TIMES the size! For us men, Big TV is like Big Steak or Big Beer or Big whatever! Other reviewers mentioned not having a keystone correction but it has no need of one because it has this handy dial that will shift the image as far up or down as you might need. just lay the unit level and adjust the dials to put the image exactly where you want it. VERY easy. and the zoom lense lets you even DOUBLE the image size without ever moving the unit. I have it set up in my movie room with a projection distance of about 11 feet.

I purchased this projector as a replacement for my older Infocus x1 projector. I have installed several projectors for different churches, businesses and individuals. I have not found one that looks this good and works this easy for under $3000. This thing is on sale for $1399!!! Buy it and you won't go wrong. Pair it up with a Blu-ray player and watch the largest lifelike movies you have ever seen at home.

This projector throws a superior picture on our 100" matte white screen. It works well even in daylight (we have a window right behind the screen.) Our PS3 hooked up to it effortlessly and the HDMI cable delivers 1080p worth of butt-kicking visual enjoyment. I was able to mount it close to my other equimpent thanks to the lens shift function. It for some reason took me just a bit to figure out the lens focus even though I was messing around in that area with the focus. Picture is truly crystal clear. Item is a bit bulky, but I was still able to mount it on the ceiling into drywall with drywall anchors. Overall, I am very satisfied with the item, delivery speed, and Best Buy price and service.

I replaced a Sanyo Z2 that had an LCD issue. The picture on this unit is incredible with virtually no adjustments - right out of the box. Unit is pretty large, but blends into my white drop ceiling. Motorized front door covering lens is cool. Highly recommend if you are looking for a killer picture at a great price.

Wonderful. Set up is as easy as plugging it in. The HD picture looks great, even against a white wall when projected from about 10'. Still looks decent when moderate room lights are on. Had to put my hand up to the unit to see if the fan was running because it is so quiet. The multiple input options are handy too. I highly recommend this projector.

I did a lot of research and shopping before I purchaced this unit.I had a projector before this(XGA). This thing was like going from anolog to digital all over again. Could'nt wait for Nascar to start ,Wow!!! Almost as good as being there. My house has been voted race viewing central this season by all my buddy's.

Wow! This is a huge purchase for a man cave in my basement. I have had installed for over a week and am still in awe of the picture. I had a Sony Grand Wega 42" LCD HDTV and switched to this projector and a 93" projection screen and I can't make myself watch the other tv's in my house. When installed properly and all adjustments have been made (and all cables properly installed inside the ceiling and walls) my wife even likes it!
I would suggest this projector to anyone who is looking for HD at a great price. For all you audiophiles out there that look at everthing with a pessimistic point of view you may find a few flaws but for all of you out there that just want a great projector I suggest this one.

Cheapest 1080P projector available. If your looking for a solid performing 1080p projector, this would be a good choice. Easy to operate, excellent picture for viewing blu-ray movies. Only weakness would be low contrast level. But most buyers will not have a problem with contrast. The Sanyo 1080p has many adjustments to allow you to tweak contrast for better black level. Picture sharpness is excellent. If your into seeing every pore and strand of hair on an actors face, than you won't be disappointed with this projector.
For $1400, overall performance is hard to beat. Projectors really are the best kept secret for watching movies. Seriously, if they we're advertised like LCD and Plasma Tv's, those tv's would be out of business. For entertainment purposes you just can't beat viewing movies, HDTV and game playing on a 106" screen. Buy one of these and view "The Dark Knight" on blu-ray, and you'll be hooked forever. Based on performance at this price I'm giving the projector a 5 star

I love this thing. From day one it blew me away. I've never owned a projector before, but for the price you can't beat 1080p and 100+ inches! I passed on purchasing a projector screen, and just use my bare white wall. It looks outstanding when the room is completely dark. For all this and under $1500, What's not to like about that?
The only negatives I can think of is that the black level could use some improving. They come out more dark gray than black. For some people they prefer this, however I personally could see some improvement there as it's impossible to use the contrast feature without bumping the rest of the colors. Lastly if this thing a tv tuner....but no worries, it has plenty enough HDMI inputs.

I spent the last month going round and round trying to decide between a 60" DLP or a 52" LCD. I decided against the DLP and was waiting for the prices to drop on the LCD's before purchasing. I had also considered a projector but didn't know anything about them or couldn't find one to look at set up. My wife and I had lunch at a place that had three set up and it was a fairly bright room and they looked great, so I decided to give it a shot.
This Sanyo is the cheapest HD projector I could find, but you would never guess it. I set it up in about five minutes and aimed it at our back wall and was just dumbfounded. The picture is just amazing. I am using an HDMI cable and have HD cable. There is a difference between the HD and non HD channels just like on plasma or LCD, but the non HD still look good. Me and my neighbors measured it at 9' 2" diagonally and it was as clear as if it was zoomed in to it's smallest size. You will not find a 110" HD TV for $1400 anywhere. We've only had

ive owned it for about 2-3 weeks now. ive got it about 10 feet from the wall and the image size is over 80 inches. the image is perfect, it looks like a plasma screeen covering my entire wall. every friend i have shown it off to has been thoroughly impressed. and so have i.
cons: its an over the top item, when they sell decent projectors for under 1000, yet this beauty is 1600. i have compared it to one other projector; and mine is noticibly sharper image... but then i paid 3 times as much as he did.
i would recommend it but only if u really want to pay 1600 for a really really great item, when many people would be very happy with a cheaper item, i demanded 1080p and i got it for a price...

If you are in the market for an HD tv then let me slow you down for a sec. 1 year ago we bought a 46" LG LCD 720P for around $1800. This projector we got for just a shade over $1500 and my screen is 12ft. I have been building a theater room around this projector for about two weeks and decided to purchase it before I was finished to make sure my throw range was correct. What I found when I hooked it up was a HUGE picture and even on raw drywall the picture rivals most other HD tv's. I spent about 2 months reviewing HD projectors and was ready to spend about $4000, but after reading about this one decided to save some money. I AM GLAD I DID this picture is even better than the Sony on display. You will want to have a slightly dim room however you don't need perfect darkness. I can't say enough good stuff about this projector and if you are in the market, do youself a favor and get the Sanyo. Oh and by the by Best Buy had the best price that I found anywhere both online and in the stores.

What on earth is a PLV-1080HD?? If you are looking for a Sanyo PLV-Z700, the 1080HD is the exact same thing with one big difference; a REDUCED WARRANTY.
I had to call Sanyo to figure this out. All the specs are the same as the Z700, except that the 1080HD has a black faceplate instead of grey. The Sanyo rep told me that Amazon wanted their own model number for marketing purposes, so they rebadged the Z700 as the 1080HD exclusively for Amazon. Only one difference I could find: the Z700 has a 3 year warranty and the 1080HD has a 2 year warranty. Bummer! I didn't find this out until I received the 1080HD. Amazon doesn't exactly brag about the reduced warranty. It would have been a hassle sending it back, so I just kept it.
On the upside, Amazon sells the 1080HD for $1600. Everyone else sells the Z700 for $1800 with a $200 rebate to bring it down to $1600. If you hate rebates like I hate rebates, it's nice to not have to deal with it. As long as my 1080HD doesn't break down in

We had been holding off buying a home theater projector since technology was improving and prices were coming down. I revisited the market this fall, doing some extensive research both online and at the local stores. I came across this Sanyo 1080p projector that seemed promising in its initial reviews -- and certainly was an attractive price point at $1,599. We have a large living room (29' by 16') that we intended to maintain as a multi-purpose living room/home theater. The room has one wall that has floor to ceiling glass with vertical blinds, which allows us to darken the room during daylight but certainly not to pure theater levels. For our situation our local retailers were promoting projectors that would cost $5,000 -- to be coupled with sound system, screen and installation that would push the cost to $10,000 or more. After researching the options, we bit the bullet and ordered this Sanyo 1080p projector from Amazon -- figuring it was cheap enough now that if it turned out

This product replaces an older XGA projector. I wrestled with buying a flat panel instead, but decided that I wanted the larger screen. Our viewing position is about 15 feet from the screen. When I got done installing on the ceiling, my 17 year old son came in and said "this is better than our other TV in the living room". For the record, the TV in the living room is a 52" near top of the line Samsung 6 series that is only a few months old. We get to enjoy an 82" screen with this projector.
Hook up was smooth. Having two HDMI ports was handy and was able to hook up all the legacy stuff as well. The lens on this unit is amazing - it can zoom about 2:1 and can shift the screen up/down and left/right a bunch so the exact location of the unit doesn't matter too much. In my case it is about 10 feet from the screen and off center by about 2 feet. Motorized door that covers the lens when not in use is a nice touch to reduce dust issues.
We are very satisfied with the screen brightness

In my case it is about 10 feet from the screen and off center by about 2 feet. Motorized door that covers the lens when not in use is a nice touch to reduce dust issues.
We are very satisfied with the screen brightness

I got mine today and hooked it up. Easy to setup, 5 stars there. The menu on the remote is a bit funky, not much though. It just needs a couple extra minutes to adjust to it. After that, it's easy sailing.
Picture Quality, contrast etc?
I don't have a TV in the room so I really have no point of reference other than what I understand to be a good picture based on the couple of plasmas and lcd's I have upstairs. The picture is decent. I projected it onto a light yellow wall and the image was as good as my LCD. Projected onto a screen, this is a very good image. It wasn't cristal clear because I was running Oceans 12 at 480P, still very clear. 5 stars there.
I have 20 pot lights downstairs, with half of them on (see my uploaded pic with Halo 3 [...] the picture is still clear - not sure what the fuss is about poor image quality there. To me, the movie was easy to take in with half the lights on. With the lights dimmed, it's that much more beautiful.
It's bigger than I thought it would

This is my first projector and so there is not much I can compare it with.
First the pros:
a) Great value for money. This is the first sub $2k 1080p projector I found.
b) Simple to setup. It has two HDMI and two component inputs. I just plugged the power in hooked up my HD tuner and DVD player in and I was up and running in a couple of minutes.
c) The image is bright, crisp and colorful. On my first attempt I projected the image onto a dark wall and yet I could see a lot of detail and colors.
d) The zoom combined with the vertical and horizontal shifts mean that you can pretty much install it wherever you want and control the size of the image.
e) The lens cover is motorized and shuts off when you power off the device, keeping out unwanted dust.
Cons:
1) The projector is a bit bulky.
