Not Great But It's Cheap

Well, you get what you pay for, I suppose. I can't say that I'm all that impressed with many of the Coby products that I have bought. Their MP3s aren't very good and now I know the DVD players aren't a whole lot better. They are reasonably priced. That is what attracts so many people to their products. But, you can't expect much for your money either.
I bought 2 of these DVD players simultaneously (one for each of the kid's rooms). One of them has been working quite well, while the other has had a few problems. It doesn't always read the DVD and will sometimes stop playing. It usually will restart after a push of the button, but it is kind of annoying.

Nice compact DVD player

I purchased this DVD player for business. I travel exstensively and are tired of paying for movies that usually I already has at home. It is light=weight and compact, So it travels well in my suite case. I just plug it into the TV at the hotel and go. For the price it was much cheaper than a portable DVD player and easier to watch movies on an TV than my laptop. It arrived in one day! I am happy with it. Works great also for training classes.

You get what you pay for

It's not anything close to fancy but it plays DVD's. This went into our bedroom to play DVD's on our old CRT TV that doesn't even have s-video output, this is a cheap dvd player for an old TV.

Started on FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this product for my son's room who at the time was 11. One night just before bed he told me the unit was smoking. I go to his room to find the unit is smoking and a very bad smell is coming from it. I unplug it and take it outside. In the morning my husband and I open it up and there is black soot inside the unit. I call Amazon and they direct me to Coby. What a joke!!! Needless to say NOTHING has been done about this, and to be honest I wouldn't want another one of their fire hazards, I will NEVER buy one of their products again. It's a $30 dollar lesson learned. Spend more money and get a namebrand product. It's worth your safety and the ones you love. This could have turned out horribly different!!!!

DVD Player

I got this DVD because I wanted somthing small with not a lot of extra stuff that I would never use. I have really enjoyed watching movies on this DVD player, it was easy to plug into my TV and started up right away! I am very happy with my choice!

great buy

I actually received this as a gift, but it's great. Easy all the way around and it hasn't stopped in the middle of any movies like other players I have had in the past.

Features need clarity

I am happy with the product even though instruction manual was not real clear. It took a while to get it to work properly. The one thing that is a problem, my tv is Colby and the DVD is Colby, so the remote is trying to access features on both units which makes it difficult to use. I would recommend it to a friend, if they want to use it as a basic device.

not impressed at all

After watching 2 dvd's with this player, the disc drawer will not open. I am extremely disappointed with this product and now have to go through the hassle of returning it. It would be easier to toss it in the trash, but I want my money back.

Dont buy this piece of crap!!

I dont want to give this product even a 0 rating. i would rather give it in the -ve. I bought this DVD player couple of months back, ignoring the bad feedbacks given to this product. Result of that big mistake -- i ve to dump this product in garbage. This might have worked fine for first 5 times. thatz it. now it is giving wrong disk message to all the DVDs that i play. These DVDs work fine with my other DVD player. so please dont waste your money on this absolute piece of junk. if you feel like spending on this crap, instead, consider donating that money to charity so that atleast your hard earned money wont go to garbage !!!!

Okay but not great

Minuses:
1. Doesn't have a proper reverse that I can tell. You can skip back a scene but not reverse the action.
2. On one DVD it couldn't seem to select the menu options correctly. This may be a problem with the DVD, but more likely this player isn't compatible with everything.
3. It doesn't come with cables.
Pluses:
1. It's very compact. It fits into a shelf in my desk.
Neutral:
1. It's very cheap. I'd probably have paid more for a better player if it had the same form-factor.
2. I have it plugged into a cheap flatscreen, so I can't tell the quality of the sound/picture for sure.

Absolute piece of garbage

This DVD player is such a piece of garbage that I am actually writing this review. This is the 1st feedback i have ever left and i order plenty of items from Amazon. DVD arrived damaged and DVDs did not play at all. I ordered a COBY in the past and it broke down after 6 months (no disc was the error message). i should have learned my lesson but i just needed a cheap DVD player for use when traveling. Guess what...big mistake!!! I returned the DVD player and will get another brand and spend the extra $20-$30. trust me, it will break down and it is worth the extra $20 to get a better DVD that will last 2 years. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Coby DVD-224

The Coby DVD-224 is a small player that is big on picture and sound quality. Its only drawback is the lack of display. I would like to see how long the movie has been playing if I need to stop it for a time.

Great for the price

You can tell immediately that this isnt the greatest dvd player on earth... the box was so light that i wondered if it was really in there. But it works great and i love how small and compact it is. Im satisfied with it.

attractive player

Was very pleased with this DVD player-the slim design was great! When I removed my old DVD player it looked big and bulky compared to the new one. The remote was a bonus.

Great Deal

Overall this player does the job in playing quality dvds for you and gives you the options of watching the movies in different formats and subtitles.
The size is a mini, so great for squeezing in small places. I am glad I made this purchase.

Coby DVD-224 Compact DVD Player

Item is nice and compact, and seems to work very well so far. I wish the remote had a power on/off button on it, but even without that, I still would have given the item a five--or a four-and-a-half, except it also comes with an ugly yellow instruction sticker on the top of it that doesn't come off. Maybe the sticker could be put on the bottom? Or the instructions could be put on a card?

Coby DVD-224 Slim Progressive Scan DVD Player

It just works with no problem. It's slim and takes very little space. The remote is great with a lot of buttoms I use. Some buttons I don't really need at this point.

A nice little unit that does what I expect of it.
Good price too; some I had looked at cost twice as much for what I needed.
