I never in my life thought I'd ever upgrade from the original Nintendo system my dad always had, or play anything other than Original Mario Bros. But my boyfriend brought over his PS2 and this game back in September and now, 5 months later, I am still in love with Midnight Racer.
The only worthwhile way to play is in the Career mode, and once you get through the first race in San Diego, everything is very straight foward. I love how easy it is to customize your car. I know little to nothing about the engine works of a car, so the "auto upgrade" that gets you the best engine for your money all in one go is great for those less interested in the technical/mechanical aspects. The way that different customizations are locked gives me a reason to keep playing. Aside from that (and this is the most important part), I love all the cars! I love how I can make my entire collection of cars customized to a theme. I've completed 85% of my career, and have access to every kind of car. From my first

The first time I played this game in career mode, I got a little confused. It told me to "purchase a vehicle," but I wondered how the heck I had any money to buy one. When I got to the garage and figured it out, I bought the Mitsubishi Eclipse which did me well until Vannesa challenged me a second time. The only dissapointing thing is that so many many races have to be done tons of times to finish your career. I liked everything else about it though.
