I have the Acer Aspire One and the Asus 900HA and have installed memory upgrades on both. Although they are very similar (Atom processor, 160GB HD, 8.9" screen, 1GB RAM installed, Windows XP Home, etc) there are important differences worth mentioning.
(1) Size and weight: Asus wins here. 4-cell Asus is about 1" narrower in both width and depth and a little lighter than the 6-cell Acer (the 1" depth difference is due to the protruding battery from the back of the Acer). Thickness is about the same.
(2) Screen brightness: Acer wins here. Although the LCD panels are the same size and have the same native resolution the Acer screen is much brighter at max and appears crisper. Also the default Windows icons are way too large on the Asus (however, icon size can be adjusted using Windows).
(3) Upgrading: Asus wins big here. Remove a bottom panel with two screws from the Asus and you can easily swap out the single 1GB memory module for a 2GB module that costs about $30. You can

I had seen the Acer Aspire One in stores and was impressed by both the size and price. I thought it would be perfect for me for school. Once I got mine, (PC Connection had very fast shipping by the way,) I was very impressed by the speed. I was not expecting the performance for the price. Just to see if it would handle it i actually installed Guild Wars, MMORPG that I play. To my great surprise Acer Aspire One handled it very well with almost no video lag at all. And I thought that playing on such a small screen would be a problem, but the screen is so clear that some of the graphics actually even looked better than on my 15" screen.
I have been using it for a few weeks now, I am used to the keyboard, which actually does not really take too long to get used to. And because everything is so close, once your fingers get used to the keys, and not having to reach for anything, is actually very nice.
The only difficulty I had with it at all was that is did not want to load

I ordered this item to act as a laptop replacement for grad school. What appealed to me was the long battery life, the portability, and the generally positive reviews.
The first one I had was dead on arrival. It would do everything fine during setup, but once I started to do anything resembling normal operations the screen would invert all of its colors. After a couple hours with Acer tech support we concluded it was dead.
Second one has worked as advertised and just hums along. Reasonably quiet, very good battery life (longest I've gotten is 6 hours), does it's intended tasks very well. Will not fool anybody into thinking it's a gaming rig, but for day to day utility computing, this thing is outstanding.
Big props to PC Connection in getting me a replacement unit extremely quickly and for making the return process a breeze.

This is a nice compact computer with nice features and easy enough to use. The
problem is, as apparently with many
Acer laptops, are prone to overheating
and completely locking up requiring a
hard reboot to start them up again. This usually occurs after just 1 to 2 hours of use,
or in my case when I'm reading eBooks in
PDF format. Other than that, this would be a great laptop. If I can figure out how this
problem can be resolved, I will submit a more positive review in the future. As for right now, I can't give it a high recommendation.

The Aspire One is well positioned, outiftted, and priced among the other on the shelf today. When onc really looks at what you get for for about $300, the others just shrink away.

This is a nice little Notebook, the keyboard is almost full size and I have big hands and did not have any trouble using it. The scree is nice and bright and the quality of the image is great. There are a few things to accomodate like using full screen while sufing the net to use more screen area. Video quality is ok, a little jumpy at the beginning but once it gets loaded it plays smoohtly. After reading other reviews I did not expext a performer but it manages to have a couple of programs running at the same time with no problems. I definately reccommend it. For the fan noise...gp the forums and get a little program tocontrols the fan.

This is a great little netbook, and a good value for the price. Performance is what you'd expect in this class. For what it's designed for, it does a good job.

I love my new ACER. I use it just about everyday. I received mine on December 8th and have only needed to recharge it 4 times since then. The battery works great!!! I highly recommend this netbook. I don't miss the CD/DVD as I have a full size laptop and PC should I require one. I also have a portable CD/DVD if all else fails and I absolutely need to use it, which has not been the case. Everything I need is on my ACER and it runs like a champ!!! Quick to boot and I'm able to pick up wireless internet just about everywhere. I love this little PC. The only problem I'm having is the microphone for the Webcam, but that's not a major draw back unless you do a lot with your webcam, I don't use it that often to make a difference and if I absolutely need a mic I can use the one I have attached to my PC, not a big deal. I highly recommend the Aspire One 150-1447, you'll love the flexibilty you get with it.

I use this for work everyday, so having something compact, but dependable was critical! this is awesome. I walk in to my client with my laptop, and a pad of paper! I boot it up and ready to sell! It never gives me a problem and just love everything it is able to do that my regular lap top did, for a lot less $$$. It is well worth every penny!

This netbook is great for normal use applications such as internet and email (it comes preloaded with Office 2K7 trial so it can at least handle that). Not too good for downloading music or video, although it does have a built-in SD slot that is easy to swap out. I also use this at work to replace expensive hand-held devices -- lower cost, easier to maintain, larger screen. Well worth the price.

This is a great little computer. It's about the size of a book, and is packed with features. I ordered it for my daughter. Now she will have no excuse for not keeping in touch with us. Get the 6 cell battery version.

Imagine, a quick, easy to transport computer that has a six hour battery that the difference with this model. Its the bomb, I love it,love it, love it! It does all I need for my running around. All I do is show someone and they want one! The downside for me is the price I payed more in DECEMBER for this and wish I would of gotten it for this price. ALL the reviews I read about this machine were 100% positive so don't delay and get yourself a fun computer!!

This is a great little computer. It is so small I throw it in my purse and take it anywhere. I have a wireless card so I can surf where ever I go. The 6 cell battery is great. It last a long time. It has a bright screen. I recommended it to my friends and 2 of them bought one. They love it, too. The only con is no DVD drive. This is no big deal. I download movies off of the internet to watch when I fly on trips. I am currently looking for a slim external drive and that will sold this con.I would rather have this small computer than have an internal drive. This is a great little computer for taking everywhere. The prie is great right now it has gone down quite a bit since I bought it.

I've been using this unit for two months now - on the road. It's size is a big plus if you want to minimize your luggage and it has enough power to work on the road. It's basic, but basic works well for travel. It won't make it as your primary unit, but it serves its purpose well. The upside - it's compact, functions well on-line, and is powerful enough to do most things you might need to do on a short road trip. The downside? No optical drive, which can be a bother if you don't plan ahead. And if you have large hands, this is definitely not for you. The keyboard is fine, but it's compact and takes some getting used to. Overall, though, if you keep its purpose in mind, you'll find this a great travel companion, and a reliable one.

If you buy this netbook, your other computers will get jealous. The wife and I have 3 desktops situated around the house and 2 laptops. 80% of the time I'm sitting on the couch, on the Laz-e-boy, on the deck, on the porch (you get the idea) with the Acer. I do not remember the last time I used my 15.4" laptop - actually, I do - the day before the Acer arrived.
The screen is awesome, the battery life (6 cell) is incredible, and the screen is very clear. I am a mid-level manager, own my own business, and am finishing up my doctorate on-line, so I compute a LOT. The Acer is my 2008 tech purchase of the year.

Love the laptop and the speedy delivery. A+ service and reliability. The webcam is also fun! Comes with XP! Very sturdy case. Easy to use--everything is there! I was so impressed that I bought another one for my son! He works on computers all day as an architect - he was impressed! He was surprised how quickly it connected to the wifi. I did add a wireless mouse to it because I'm faster with a mouse than a keypad but that is just personal preference.

I am a senior programmer for a $5 billion dollar corporation. I program enterprise-wide applications and am also a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD).
I have to carry a laptop issued by my company for remote access. My workplace does not like us to web-surf for personal reasons on company computers so I got a Verizon Wireless Broadband account and the Acer Aspire One. Plus, with the work laptop and my personal laptop, my bag was pretty heavy to carry since my usual lug-around laptop is a bit old and heavy. I wanted a light computer to use for personal reasons while at work, at lunch or traveling.
I just got my Acer Aspire One just yesterday and have put it through some pretty good performance tests.
The Acer Aspire One is a sweet little machine. I was worried about other postings I read regarding the fan noise. The fan does have a little sound but with ambient noise in public or at home with the TV on, you don't notice it. When it's quiet, you have to put the computer

This purchase for me is turning out to be the best IT velue purchase I made in 2008.
This device is well suited for what it is designed for - that of Light to Medium computing in a portable mode. The Aspire One is perfect for e-mail and web based work and its small size makes it very portable. The Dual Card Readers allow for added storage as well as versatility in supporting many device that use flash cards as storage. The Small keyboard does take some getting used to but is not a major hurdle in using the device. Some have criticized the track pad button placement but again this just takes some time to get used to.

Everything about the Acer Aspire one is nice. A good display, battery life, almost full size keyboard, aesthetic looks, etc. The only complaint is the horrible mouse pad. Overall size is ok and will get the job done, but the left and right mose buttons will take some time getting used to. I don't know if its my fat fingers or what, but since they are on the side it is very hard to click and drag documents/menu icons. Other than that a great portible notebook.

This little laptop is everything I expected. I can type just fine on the smaller keyboard. It just takes a little adjustment to keep your fingers closer together. You can't have large and small at the same time. At first I thought I'd have to get an external CD/DVD drive but I haven't needed it yet. I either download programs or put them on a flash drive from another computer and install them on the Aspire One. I got the one with the 6 cell battery pack and it lasts over 5 hours no matter what I'm doing on the computer. Some people complain about using the touchpad. I've had many laptops and they all work about the same. I'm not having any trouble with the touchpad. I normally don't use a touchpad anyway. I have a wireless mouse that is much easier to use. The screen is large enough to watch movies on airplanes etc. To compensate for the screen size when on the internet, I set my browser to full screen so that there are no tool bars across the top. This makes the screen equal to one a

This little pocket computer carries more punch than all the desktops in the house put together.
Screen and keyboard is large enough but still compact. the little Aspire One has all the feature that I need, fast and excellent screen.
The 6 hour battery life is unbelievable. Things like that make it truly portable. And at What a Price!
It's a great buy for anyone wanting a truly portable very small notebook.

I've had this little guy for 3 weeks now and can say it's everything I hoped it would be: smaller than a laptop (I ride a bike and wanted a "laptop" I wouldn't mind lugging around... ) but bigger and better than a blackberry for working my e-mails and acessing the internet. Make sure you get the 6 cell battery. It really does last 6 hours as claimed... and for me that makes all the difference. (I can use the battery commutting to and from work without having to bring the AC adaptor.) I was a little worried about two things: the mouse pad,and the small size of the key pad... but my fingers have adapted to the smaller key board just fine and the mouse works better than I initially thought.

In an age of ultra cheap notebooks, the majority of users who simply surf and do minor word processing tasks, the netbook has come to the rescue. The Acer Aspire One netbook is the perfect balance of power, simplicity, long battery life(6 cell) and durability.
At 2.3 lbs, you couldn't ask for a more streamline netbook and the finesse in which Acer delivers the Aspire One, you'll be sure to catch glances at your local wifi coffee shop. It looks slick, performs strongly and delivers on the promise of the quintessential minimalistic notebook.
Don't expect a dvd-rom drive here, the intention of netbooks to deliver a net friendly, streamline, mobile device. Of course, this no-nonsense approach is the very reason why netbooks make so much sense. Do you use your 5-7 lb notebook to casually surf or your 2.3 lb Acer netbook? The answer is pretty simple.
As far as pricing and shipping is concerned, PC Connection is your absolute best bet for this device. I received my

I purchased the Acer Aspire One for one reason, portability; and it's delivered on that need.
I work with computers all day and have needs for many different machines but I needed a computer that I can carry with me without having to disconnect or undock every time I went to a meeting. And when I travel, I wanted something that was light, easy to transport, could be used on a plane, and have great battery life. The Acer Aspire One delivers on all that.
For the type of processor, the machine runs great... it's not a desktop replacement but that's not why I bought it. The screen is outstanding, very bright and clear. And when you close the lid, it suspends. Open the lid, it un-suspends... each and every time. Rock solid with the driver support and I have yet to find a problem with any software or driver that I've loaded. And I've got it packed with software; multiple VPN clients, office tools, synchronization software, email clients, system utilities, etc.

Use it for travel, and meets all my demands. The WiFi connects have been flawless, and speed seems to be good. Fan is noisy, downloaded a free program tnat lets me set the temp cut-off. The one complaint? The smooth surface is a fingerprint magnet.

I was surprised with its small size and weight. The finish gets dirty easy (because of the gloss finish). Performance is very good for not being a duo core but it stays cool and packs easily. Very easy to use on a plane. Wireless works well if your are relatively near the transiver(but the limited battery power on this unit is why) for long distances it drops off. Some reviewers said the fan was loud but I didnt find this to be true, yes it can be heard but its not loud.

Maybe I shouldn't be reviewing this, as the whole "netbook" or "Mini laptop" segment seems flawed to me. The biggest problem is the screen size. I'm used to a nice big screen, and having only 600 lines of vertical resolution just doesn't cut it for many tasks, web surfing included unless you disable most of the toolbars and so forth.
The keyboard on this, as in all netbooks, is extremely small. It's much better suited to a child's size fingers. And the keyboard is very flimsy, too.
On the plus side, the overall performance for most tasks is acceptable, and the battery life seems quite good.

This is an excellent purchase given the price. It is very lightweight and is an incredible lnotebook for me and college life. It is easy to carry around with little hassle and a great compact size so I dont even notice im cartrying it in my backpack

I had to return the unit as one key (yes only one) did not work. I put a test progam on the unit and that particular key failed. The button actually looked ok and felt fine but did not work. I reloaded the factory default drivers and the image but it still did not work. I received an advanced replacement within a few days which was great but they billed me again and did not tell me. The new one is working fine. I have three acer notebooks in the house and they are the best bang for the buck. I have never had problems with them. I got the 6 cell battery...that was the way to go.

This product is perfect for travel. The only issue is that the keyboard is a bit small for some who actually type (rather than hunt & peck), but worth the inconvenience.

I wanted something that I could take with me to read books, play music, show off my pictures, and have internet access. I love it. It is light weight, fast, and fun. I could even download and watch movies. Everyone who saw mine wanted one. The price makes this handy little machine a must have.

I was looking for a mobile PC. I found this to be the one with the most ram, hard drive & speed. I chose the 6 cell battery option and I am glad I did.It gives me about 5.6 houra of use which is great. It comes with a trial version of microsoft office which I have previously purchased and it was easy to convert to permanant software. I wanted to use the Windows XP OS to be compatible with my work PC. With 1 ram of memory it is working very well. I find the keyboard very easy to use with my size 10.5 fingers. I can plug in my home printer and monitor along with the other USB ports. It is all of what I was looking for at the best price.

Have had my Aspire One for a month now and must say I'm totally impressed. Everything is running great, have an external USB powered disc drive that has no problems when connected. Keypad is comfortable and easy to use also. Just wish the mousepad/click buttons were arranged differently, they work fine as is, but a different configuration might be better. But that is the only complaint about the computer. Its small, its light weight, will be a great travel computer.

Great 2nd laptop. Performance is good, running on XP home a big plus. No CD/DVD drive is a little inconveniant, but one you have installed the software you need how often do you really need a built in CD/DVD drive. You can copy movies to USB drives and it is great when travling on airplanes. Built-in WiFi a huge plus.

Wanted a little machine to bring to work, and a co-worker had one. After some research I decided to buy this. It is great, fast, easy to use, great picture resolution, easy to use and light to carry. Used it while traveling and enjoyed watching videos. I love it and highly recommend it. Joke about my so very cute, itsy bitsy tiny laptop.

This is a great netbook. Battery life is excellent. The computer is super-fast and light weight. Although I am not fond of shiny screens, this one has great resolution. I am even running Adobe Dreamweaver which means I can update websites from my favorite coffee shop. I just love it. My only 'con' is the left/right buttons on the mouse pad. They feel a bit hard.

I purchased the Acer one netbook through PC Connection. The unit was promptly shipped and arrived as advertised from the estimates provided on the website. This unit weighs 2+ pounds (a large pizza hut supreme weighs more). The keyboard has good response and the 6 cell battery is a must (5 plus hours of use after the first initial charge).
Forget about buying a Franklin planner every year. This unit is about the same size and weight of the franky planny. For the price, performance and weight, a very good deal, especially if you want to frequent a Netcafe' and loiter awhile not tethered to one of the few open electrical outlet wall-sockets. I would suggest purchasing a Themaltake IXoft heat dissipation pad (unit can run hot) and an external DVD drive to load software. A portable external mouse would be a good addition as well.
I also caution not to show your netbook’s features to your significant other. You won't have the pleasure of using your netbook for awhile,

I wanted a small laptop to take places with me. I had resisted buying one untill a sales rep that sells snowboards came into our shop with an Acer Aspire One. That was it I had to have one!!! Don't be mislead by the similar model at Wal-mart. This model has larger hard drive and longer duration battery than the Wal-mart model. For the extra $50, this is the best value. It's a little slow compared to a workstation. Fingerprints show pretty badly on the blue case, but it's my team color! Wi-Fi works well. I opted to buy a USB notebook mouse, but I use the touch pad also. 14Nov2008

After waiting and searching for years for the right laptop, I've found it. With Windows XP and the small form factor, the Acer Aspire One with a 160GB drive , really quick, stable wireless B/G connectivity, a 6-cell battery that goes and goes (4-5hours), a great screen and keyboard, fabulous trackpad with configurable tapping and scrolling, this netbook ROCKS! I've watched on-demand movies from NetFlix on it with no lags, stuttering or rough patches - betrween the wireless nic and the graphic processor you get a picture as clear and stable as you get with a portable DVD player. It runs cool, makes no noise when surfing or watching video although it can be heard while installing software or doing other intensive processing which brings on a fan for cooling but other than when I was getting it setup, I've hardly ever heard it. Flawless performance way above what one would expect is provided by this very reasonably priced netbook. I could not be happier.

The Acer Aspire One is a great netbook. I proudly own the 6 cell White Acer Aspire One. This review is going to be mainly covering the 6 cell with slight mentions of the 3 cell. However, whether or not you should get the Aspire depends on your needs. I suggest making a checklist first to see whether or not the acer meets your requirements.
I used to own a HP Pavilion DV8040US (17"). It lasted 3-4 years, and worked well when it did work as a desktop replacement laptop. It died two weeks ago and I needed to get something to use for school. So I needed to get a new laptop.
I'm a busy college student constantly on the go with a definite need for a laptop. I wanted a new, small, cheap laptop that didn't have vista installed on it. The Acer Aspire One best suited what I wanted overall in terms of pricing, looks, and the goods it has. I initially purchased the 3 cell version from a local store, but ended up returning it so I could get the 6 cell version from Amazon because I liked it so much.

Finally got mine this past week; am thoroughly impressed by the convenience of having this notebook with its decent resolution, actual touch-typable keyboard, and very good battery life (I have the 6-cell version; gets 5+ hrs). The LED screen is beautiful, the built quality is solid, etc. Only two things I wished were different: 1) the glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet (I'm not talking about smudges, but clear fingerprints that I can probably lift off with tapes a la CSI); 2) the second SD slot (there are two - one as a media reader, the other as storage space) can probably be replaced with an Express card slot instead as there's no need for more storage space with the 160 GB HD.
I know it's difficult to install more RAM, but based on my usage so far, I think 1GB is perfectly fine for XP Home and the Aspire One's intended purposes.
Also, the often-cited missing Bluetooth was easily addressed with an Anycom BT adapter - it's so small it only protrudes no more than a few millimeters.

Acer was probably the first company to offer this level of performance in a "netbook". With an Atom processor, 1gb of ram, a 160gb hard drive, a 6 cell battery and Windows XP home, it's a pretty credible unit if you don't mind a slightly small keyboard.
I already had a 17" Dell 9300, but after seeing the original eee realized I'd get much more use out of a laptop that was convenient to take along.
Goals were:
Small as possible with a keyboard I'd be able to touch type on.
Long battery life
Be able to run my SBIG astronomy camera.
Wireless Networking
decent performance for web, email, and running the camera.
I spent a couple months looking at what was available, and what was coming down the road. The eee 900 and 901 keyboards were just too small for me to be able to get used to. On line reviews brought my attention to the original aspire one. People were saying nice things about it's performance and build quality, and mentioned the keyboard was much easier to get used to than

This isn't the fastest, This isn't the cheapest, This isn't a macbook, dell xps, HP, ect. This is a Acer Aspire One Netbook. Price varies per retailer. I actually found my aspire one 160GB blue bundle of fun for 430 after taxes and shipping on a Canada website I trusted. If you look on amazon you will also see that it is listed by multiple retailers at different prices and some on preorder still. Nonetheless if you purchase a canada notebook you get a canada keyboard with is slightly different than the pictured one that I saw on some websites, also is taking me a little to get used too. All aspire one Touchpads are also different than standard notebooks, not just Canada's. Good thing I can deal with change unlike both our candidates who only like to talk about it... But I degress. no can not digress must move on. I couln't find any recovery media so first thing first after getting it. Call acer and request it. If they try and charge you call a different support number and ask for it to

Just got this little guy not too long ago. I have to admit that the Intel Atom processor is far faster than i thoought it was going to be. I am running XP just fine and have had absolutely no issues with speed when running MS and Open Office, IE7, etc. I'm even watching movies from Netflix with absolutely no problems! I upgraded the RAM to 1.5G however as another reviewer mentioned, it's not as easy as Acer should have made it. It required me dissasembling the entire case and fully exposing the circuit board. Typing is OK,but not great. The keyboard is tight but I can still manage to enter in text relatively quickly. This little gem is perfect for travel, or just taking from room to room of the house. My wife and I keep ours almost exclusively on our couch or under our bed for access pretty much at our fingertips. The weight of this thing is incredible. I find the boot time to be plenty fast (use MSCONFIG to reduce some of the startup applications). We also discovered that although it doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, you can install CD-ROM based programs by networking another computer with this, so you can then access the CD-ROM drive of another computer using the Acer Aspire One. You'll have to "share" the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive of the other computer. After that, just insert the software disc and access it through the Acer. Presto, you can then install all your software on CD's without actually having to buy an external drive.
My ONLY complaint about this thing is that it is extremely difficult to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 1.5GB. You actually have to remove the keyboard, facia, to get to the bottom

This little guy is really popular right now. I'd be tempted if it were a Linux box.
