This is a great deal on a fairly large capacity external hard drive. It's super easy to use. You just plug it into the USB port and it's ready to go. File transfer is pretty fast, fast enough to watch movies directly from it via the USB port.
The package advertised it was more durable than most external hard drives, and I can say it definitely is. I accidentally knocked mine off a book case, and it fell from a height of about 6 feet onto a carpeted floor. It not only didn't break, but it still works perfectly fine and didn't lose any data. This is a bargain for 500 GB or storage.

I use the Passport to consolidate & organize thousands of photos from multiple computers. The size and speed makes it so much more convenient than carrying a handful of flashdrives. Setup was a breeze – just plug it in and you’re off. Password protection and encrypted software provides some piece of mind if the drive is lost or stolen. Improvements could be made to the USB cable to provide a more secure mounting to the drive. The WD software could also be improved to allow access, viewing, and organization of individual files from Home viewing screen instead going back through Windows. WD software also failed to recognize the new drive after a few days of use, which caused a panic until I confirmed there was no loss of data, but had to remove the software and setup the Passport again.

I got this product cheap by using the bing cashback program (I got it for about 80 bucks)It was a great buy.Easy to use, easy to install, and fast transfer speeds.

I love the ability to put my computer in my pocket and take it with me. As long as there is an excess able computer where i am going all of my files are there and I don't need to worry about any of them staying on the computer I borrow with the encrypting feature that comes with the hard drive.

Cool running, silent. Advertised 500Gb translates into 465 usable Gbs. Good USB data transfer. I formatted it to NTSC to get away from the FAT32 4Gb limit. I did a 57Gb file folder transfer in 35 minutes. Not blazing but, for USB, pretty good. The compact size is a great feature for me. I don't have to transfer files into a limited size thumb drive. I can transfer updated files into this drive, stick it in my pocket and go. By preference, I don't sync files. It's USB powered; no power adapter needed. I have 2 WD 1Tb externals and now this 500Gb drive. I am very happy with all 3 drives; WD makes a good product. I wish Best Buy had put the 750Gb or 1Tb Essential on sale. I'd have snatched one of those up in a heartbeat.
