I bought this printer and love it, but was shocked when I needed to buy more ink, So I ended up buying a CIS System for it, and I can print much cheaper than using the Epson cartridges, added a waste ink container to mine also,
trouble free beautiful photos, for pennies once I got the CIS system.

My husband bought me this printer/all-in-one (the 800) for Christmas about eight months ago. It's the best printer I've ever had. I love the touch screen menu display, being able to fax, print, print photos, and scan all from one place. I bought the optional duplex unit so that I can print doublesided. It wasn't expensive, and it saves a lot of paper. I buy off-brand ink online, and it works fine. That really cuts down on my ink costs. You can save fax numbers that you dial often (speed dial).
The only thing I don't like is that you can't scan directly from the unit (if you are connected wirelessly via Vista), and you must scan from the glass, one sheet at a time, rather than putting a stack at the top and clicking "Scan." However, when I do scan, the quality is great.

On the positive side, the print quality is excellent. However, the printer has very poor paper handling, it will not feed cardstock, and will often take 2 or 3 sheets of regular paper at a time. It always prints and extra sheet at the end of a job (and yes, i have the feature turned OFF in the preferences, but it still does it). It is very easy to forget to fully extend the paper out tray after filling the paper tray, causing your printouts to be scattered on the floor. All of the trays are very flimsy. And to top things off, the first time I tried to open the CD tray, the tray came out of its track, and now it won't print anything because it keeps saying there is an error, please turn off the device and turn it back on.

I bought this printer on line from best Buy. I almost diin't because of a couple reviews i read about envelopes and ink. But once i purchased it and set it up. I can see its the best printer i have owned for pictures. I have had no problems with printing envelopes. As far as the ink if you use the high capacity 98 cartridges they don't run out so fast. The low capacity 99"s do run out kind of fast though. But it prints superbly on cd's and dvd's. The person having a problem with printing envelopes just needs to try another program. I believe they will be satisfied then.

I really hardly ever use my printer, but you've got to have one right?! So I got this one becaue of the features plus the WIFI capability. I have already had to change all of the ink cartridges a few times (they do send you some ink with the printer...but that is pretty useless). Plus if any ONE of the cartridges are completely out of ink - you cannot print at all, untill you replace it. I mostly print in black so if a random color cartridge goes dry I have to replace it before I can print anything! How crazy!? I have heard that a lot of newer printers are using this technique.
Overall I think this is a pretty good printer. Great scanner, pretty fast printing (once it gets going), haven't used the print on CD feature yet - but it seems like a neat feature.
I'd probably still recomend this printer -- but beware! You will spend a ton of money on ink!

I do studio and action photography. I wanted an inexpensive printer that I could use in place of sending them off to a local studio for about $5.00 for every 8x10, $1.99 for a 5x7, and $.29 for a 4x6. This is not the answer...let me say that again, not the printer that you want for pro or semi-pro photography.
After 23 8x10 prints, the Light Magenta cartridge is out.
After 28 8x10 prints, the Light Cyan cartridge is out.
After 38 8x10 prints, the Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta cartridges are done for.
I needed to print a total of 48 8x10's and already had to get into the second wave of cartridges. After the initial replacement, I got through my 8x10's and moved onto my 5x7's. About 35 prints in, guess what...the Light Magenta and Light Cyan are both out again.
Quality, not so good as well. If the ink gets low in any of the cartridges, it still prints, but the colors are terrible. The browns and purples become greenish and blue.
At $59.99 dollars for a pack of all the colors at

Bought this printer after several atempts to get my HP all in one to print a decent picture. Love the fact that it stores paper load inside (8.5X11 and 4X6 picture paper ) at the same time. Flawless pictures from both 4X6 and 8.5X11. As far as just printing documents and web pages, IT'S FAST. Great printer Epson, keep it up. Would recommend and did talk my brother into buying one too.

This printer is both sleek and functional, however, my only quibble is with the instruction for printing via WiFi. It was not as simple as the instructions would make it. It also doesn't take into consideration, as do many production manuals, that the user may be using the product with a Mac. Otherwise, so far so good and I recommend it.

The Epson Artisan 700 would be worth the price as a small-format photo printer alone, but it also is quite satisfactory for general-purpose printing, as well as scanning and copying.
The paper cassette feels a little flimsy, but it seems serviceable with reasonable care. The main paper area holds sheets up to 8.5 x 14; I haven't actually tried anything larger than 8.5 x 11, but if I can locate some legal-size photo paper I'm interested in doing some small panorama prints.
The secondary paper area holds photo paper up to 5x7, which could be very useful if you like to make small prints, say for albums or scrapbooks.
I do find that you need to take the plain paper out of the main tray if you want to print on letter-size photo paper, since if you just lay a photo sheet (face down) on top of the plain paper, you'll usually get a plain sheet picked up, too, and your print will be on it. That's one nice thing about "top-feed" printers: you can just drop in a sheet of special purpose paper.

This is the second Epson printer that I have purchased and have been extremely pleased with the quality of print and the ability to load individual ink cartridges. I will continue to purchase Epson printers. I have purchased other printers before and I can not find any other product that outlasts Epson for the price. Epson has the market on the single ink cartridges.
This printer is noisy. Of course, that doesn't bug me too much with a household full of kids.

We used an Epson R300 for four years primarily for disc printing - producing around 1,000 discs per year. It wasn't ideal; the printer had a separate disc tray which had to be inserted every time and then removed if the printer decided to do some maintenance or if you changed a cartridge. It also tended to mess up about 1 out of 5 prints with ink getting on the rollers and transferring it to the disc itself. But overall it worked okay and the results were satisfactory.
Of course, one day it just stopped working and so it was time to replace it. Initially I looked for another R300 as I had a lot of aftermarket cartridges left over and I'd heard about the newer Epson's only working with official ones. After some searching I felt a newer printer might work better for workflow, even at the expense of ink cost - and I'm glad I made that choice!
As before the purpose of this printer for us is mainly disc printing with the occasional normal print and so this is what my review concentrates on.

Software installation takes a long time but went without a hitch, except I couldn't get wireless to work. To be fair wireless was coming from a router instead of from the computer.I had to rerun installation to set it up to work with USB. Print and picture quality is excellent, but a little on the dark side. I know there's an adjustment for this. I just have to find it in the defaults. It's much quieter than any other printers I've used. The copier is fast with lots of features.

I have had this printer since December and not a thing wrong with it. Pictures come out great and when I scan old pictures, it does what I want it to. Epson has a great product. I buy ink from Epson on line and its only $10 each and they deliver very quickly. All I did was read the instructions and I don't have a problem. I also like the fact it prints on CD's.

great printer. the pictures are film quality. You can also print on cds or dvds. I like that you can use this as a stand alone printer or hook it up to a PC. Also has built in WIFI.

the best thing about this printer is no fax. i was looking for an all-in-one, but i don't have a land line, so no need for a fax. the difference in price between the 700 and the 800 sold me. why don't they make multi-fuctions without a fax? the artisan 700 was just what i needed. being new to cd printing, i was amazed with the quality and how easy it was to do. i hear the cartridges run out quick, short of a laser, its whats expected. the only downfall with technology these days is i couldn't find the 700 at my local store in hawaii, bestbuy came though with free shipping and from OH! very satisfied with my purchase. I may purchase another one as a gift for christmas!

This printer prints awesome pictures, however it as 2 big drawbacks for me. It is painful to print any envelopes or any different sized papers. Also the ink does empty fast but the worst part is if one cartridge is empty you can't print anything. I ordered new ink online to pick up and could not print the reciept in black when it was my magenta that was empty.

Although a great printer, this company and most others make ALL THEIR MONEY SELLING INK, they can actually afford to give away the printers because they usually will make double the cost of a printer back in money spent on $30 dollar ink cartridges which even on this printer DO RUN OUT FAST.
I wonder how the KODAK printer ink stands up this and others, I would like to see and compare, because the ink for the new Kodak printers only cost $22 for BOTH THE BLACK AND COLOR Cartridges.

I just recieved my printer this week from Best Buy, so I've been testing it. So far so good, print quality is great (use Epson paper), print speed is good, not as quiet as my last Epson but much quieter then my HP and the HP my sister just bought(for the same price). If this is like my last Epson then the ink is a little costly but if you get the high capacity ink then the longevity outways the differance in price. The printer came with some programs that seem to be cool. If you get this printer I'm sure you will be happy, this as I mentioned is my second Epson and I doubt I'll go back to HP ever again.
