i'll tell you if the product is good or not when i have it (assuming that will happen). i placed the order 10 days ago and the package is i don't know where, the last tracking info is from 4 days ago. i know the crappy performance of USPS is not amazon's (of manufacturer's) fail but it certainly degrades the overall purchase experience.

If you're thinking of this or any other drive for upgrading an older MacBookPro (I have a 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo from late '06), be aware of some challenges you're going to face. While swapping hard drives in MacBooks and some of the newer MBPs is supposed to be easy, this will require a jeweler's Philips Head screwdriver (0 or 00 head size) and a T6 Torx screwdriver. Note that many Torx sets have T10 or T9 as the smallest head. You'll need this because you'll have to remove about 16 screws, remove the keyboard and detach it from the motherboard... it's not a trivial operation. My advice is to print out one of the sets of instructions you can find on the web, then as you remove the screws, tape them onto the instructions next to the step that says to remove them. That way you don't risk them rolling around, getting mixed up, or lost. When it's time to reassemble your Mac, you can just back through the instructions and have all the right screws available right when you need them. All that

I used this as a replacement for the original drive in an aluminum macbook (purchased late 2008, before they changed the name to macbook pro). This drive is incredibly loud and vibrates the table that I'm working on this weekend after installing it. I am sending in for a replacement. It is very fast though... mac boot times, vmware fusion, and firefox 3 are all greatly faster than the original drive.

I installed this in a MacBook Pro, restored a Time Machine backup onto it, and everything has worked pretty much perfectly. Haven't had any trouble with it.

I ordered my MacBook Pro 17" Unibody with the stock 5400 RPM, 320 GB Seagate drive thinking I would upgrade to a SSD when the prices came down and the technology matured. Neither has come to pass as quickly as I had hoped, and it seemed like i was always waiting for the hard drive, so I ordered the WD Scorpio Black. They're cheap. What the heck? I expected a modest speed bump, but the speed difference has been much more than modest. I particularly notice the speed increase when I fire up a virtual machine, which reads a full gigabyte of data into RAM along with the program code. In the past, this took several tedious seconds. Now it happens in a second or two! Big bloaty applications like Photoshop and Word now launch reasonably fast. I am very happy with this drive. It seems to run as cool as the original and is just a tiny bit louder (still barely noticeable). If you want documentation, instructions etc. this is not the drive for you. The drive is the only item in the box. I never mention
