Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization: Windows
Like many other reviewer on this game I have been playing Civ games since the first one. I, like many, thank Sid for his innovation and leadership in this category of games. That said, Sid Meiers Civilization IV Colonization is a piece of junk.

1. You can't win. You must defeat the REF to win. As mentioned in several other threads the `math' that creates the size of the REF is ridiculous. In marathon games on the easiest setting, where I have cheated using the world builder creating perfect squares all the way around my cities I am unable to create a fleet even half the size of the REF...and the European ships are 50% stronger.
2. You can't win. The REF forces have combat bonuses out of balance. They will land and will trade losses with your entrenched troops at about a 1-1 ratio. I have played on the easiest level, had every single military founding father, World Builder created my city on top of a hill in a forest surrounded by a river with a fortress. And even with all

Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization: Windows
I was really looking forward to this game and had been told (by someone who was making an assumption, and you know what they say about assuming anything!) that it wouldn't have SecuROM, so I bought it the day it was released. As I was getting ready to install it, I thought I'd better check online about the DRM and found that it DOES contain SecuROM, which I do not want on my computer. So, without installing it, I gave it away.

Also, I emailed 2K Games to ask about the DRM and got an automated response that my question would be answered within 24 hours. A week later, I still had no answer, so I sent my email again. Nothing. Nada. The silence is deafening. If a company thinks the DRM is harmless and so wonderful, why are they apparently ashamed to even mention it? They have lost my business, and neither am I a pirate. I am very, very disappointed in this experience and the publisher.

Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization: Windows
I've played this game more ways than I can count and have come to the conclusion that it is unwinnable. Plus, there are so many flaws with it, it's hard to know where to begin. Really a sloppy mess of a production all-around. And I am an expert game player - not the type to give up on something at the first frustration. Do yourself a favor- DO NOT BUY THIS GAME - go read the reviews on other websites!!
