This was a simple install in my G5 power PC Mac. I replaced the original 500 GB main drive with this WD Caviar Black 1 TB. After cloning the original drive it took 5 minutes to swap them out. I simply did a reverse clone after formatting the new drive and "presto" twice them main drive storage.

I was quite impressed upon initial installation - decided to load WIN7 thus starting from scratch. Within a couple of days noted some erratic readings but appeared to clear up. Once it got a little noisy and the bad reads reappeared it was time for a replacement. Now I'll have 2 1 TBs onboard once the replacement arrives

I have been using WD for 10years now and I have never had a problem with them. That is something I cannot say for seagate and maxtor. WD is great for RAID or a Reg. set up.

Not much to say. This HDD is highly reviewed everywhere. When I was building my new system I researched a lot and found that this was the HDD for me. Lots of space, known to be fast and well placed price point. Best Buy price was competitive with other locations and online sites.

Bought this drive yesterday. Hooked it up, booted up.. Bios only saw the drive as 33mb. Changed a few bios settings, still 33mb. Spent a few hours on the net researching the issue. Turns out several 1TB brands (WD, Seagate, Samsung, Hitachi, etc) have had these problems. This morning I tried one of the 'fixes' dealing with the HPA (host protected area) by using Seatools for DOS. Going to Advanced Tools and setting Max capacity native, thus modifying the HPA. The bios on my office pc then registered the drive as 1000GB.
My home pc has a Gigabyte motherboard and my office pc has a Biostar motherboard. Both running Award Bios with updated firmware. The Award bios is not HPA (host protected area) aware. If you encounter the 31/32/33mb capacity issue when installing the drive, then your motherboard's bios is most likely not HPA aware. Check for an updated bios firmware that enables HPA awareness (tho be careful, flashing your bios with the wrong firmware can cause the bios to no longer
