Palm TX Handheld PDA Open Box (Refurbished)-CO
Bought a TX 6 Mo ago and loaded it with a 4GB SD card.

It has outstanding versatility: I use it as a mp3 player (thx to the SD card and pTunes), I watch movies (DivX, with free TCPMP software) which turn really well on the high def screen, read my paper every morning (with AvantGo) and get all the wine ratings from Robert parker since 1993. Plus all the other classic things you can do with the thousands of Palm applications.

About the product: love the WiFi (browse the net during boring meetings) which is as sensitive as my laptop. Bluetooth is cool but never use it. Screen has a surprisingly good high definition. Overall construction is kind of weak (bends easy), but so far the unit is running OK despite my harsh treatment and two drops.

The bad news: the battery is soldered in. So, unless you are handy with a solder gun, do not expect a product life over 2 years.

Overall: fantastic buy. I probably spend a good 2h daily connected to the thing and would certainly get another TX

When I first got this device, I absolutely loved it. It did everything I wanted it to do, and there were only a few things that bothered me at first: It froze up occasionally and the web browser (called "Blazer," which is ironic considering how slow it is) will not load up most pages (more often than not it gives an error message "This page is too large to be displayed"). Even the freezing didn't bother me much because it usually happened when I used third-party programs that I knew to be unstable. There was, however, something more sinister looming on the horizon (and you can skip to the end of the review if you want to know what that is immediately-- It's the section that starts with the **).

There were several things about it that I noticed, including several things about it that I love, and I'll list the most important characteristics (good and bad):

--The default video program is terrible, requiring a long and tedious process of converting every single video to a Palm compatible

Packed with features... displayed on a bright, sharp screen.... but what good is all this when you have a piece of unreliable tech in your hands? And this is what characterizes my TX. After 6 months I still find it anything but intuitive to use and prone to more crashes than a penny stock. It almost makes me yearn for my previous PDA, powered by Windows...

The Palm TX is Palm's new wireless handheld. It features a improved 320 x 480 pixel screen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless and 128MB of nonvolatile memory. The TX adds Wi-Fi at a very competitive price.

Palm has announced a new partnership with Microsoft, so the Palm TX may have the last Palm OS version that there will ever be. The Palm TX crams a lot of useful features into one tiny device that will many any gadget lover drool. In the Palm TX, they were able to fit Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity into one gadget, which is rare for Palm. It's a pretty well-rounded little PDA, but how does it all come together? Let's take a look...

At first glance, you may mistaken the Palm TX for PalmOne's earlier Tungsten T5 due to it's design. The traditional silver case is replaced with a sleek bluish-gray case. The Palm TX is quite compact too, measuring only 5 x 3 x 0.5-inches and weighs about 5 ounces, which is very pocket-friendly. Text and images are quite sharp and brilliant on the Palm TX's 4-inch

I am happy with my puchase. Sometimes I have a problem with turning it on and off and it freezes while online, but what computer hasn't done that? The more I use it though, the better I am at controlling it. So overall I think it was a good purchase.

When I found my Palm T-3 faltering I ordered the T|X as a replacement as remaining with the Palm OS meant instant compatibility between the two PDAs when I sync them on my PC. This process worked perfectly.

In daily use there are some pros and cons about the T|X:

PROS: The Palm OS; a leather screen cover is included; better color screen than the T-3; media and MP3 capability; Documents-to-Go works great with Office 2003 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; wireless connectivity, and it is not a cell phone.

CONS: No button on the side to start a voice recorder function, its very hard when driving to dictate myself a memo; the buttons sometimes don't respond with first or even second push; and I never have been able to get Outlook to hookup with the T|X (VersaMail?)

All in all, the T|X does exactly what I want it to do: maintain my calendar, contacts; pictures of the grandkids; handle my Excel, Word, and PowerPoint files; and do so simply and reliably.

Have been pleased with Palm TX but it does crash and re-boot when starting up certain applications. Once it does the re-boot it proceeds with the application. I don't know if this is a function of it being a refurb or if they all do it.
Took me a couple days to figure out the music player. They want you to purchase a service but I found ways to get the music going for free and seems to be more user friendly. (Get a SD/USB adaptor and load music via your computer USB port onto the SD drive.)

This is a great product. I upgraded from the Palm m515. I love the wifi and the documents to go. Of course the standby address book (contacts) and calendar are why I bought the PDA in the first place. They are great! The ability to listen to music and look at photos or video are nice accompaniments. I was up and running really quickly.

I am still trying to struggle through the set-up of the Hotsync manager. This was not addressed in any detail and so far I have been able to gain only limited use of the hotsync. When I initiate the Hotsync, only parts of the calendar, notepad, etc upload. Most do not.

I bought this as a replacement for my Tungsten C that was developing some dead spots in the screen. Although I miss the built-in keyboard (my graffiti skills are rusty) I am impressed at the speed of the processor. The calendar finally has a color coded system to allow me to track the multiple schedules of people in my office, and it processes data on a SCSI card far faster than the C. The battery life is great, but plan on leaving it on the charger overnight if you run the battery down -- the recharge time is nearly equal to the run time. All-in-all a great little tool, especially for the business traveler.

I LOVE this product. I work in a hospital and I always need access to my notes, uploadable programs, and calendar. I love the large screen and especially the built in WiFi. I was going to purchase a phone to get internet, but it was an extra $30 per month and in a couple of months, a new phone would be out and mine would be old! I love not paying for the WiFi at work/ coffee shops, etc. I highly recommend this product. The only downside was it was a birthday present and took 2+ weeks to get here, but it was worth the wait.

The first one messed up soon after I bought it, but the nice people at overstock replaced it for me, even after my grace period thankyou very much.
If you don't mind having a cell phone as well as a PDA this is a great device, pay extra for Kinoma software, it is worth it to view web pages and vidio.
I like being able to use wi fi hot spots and my home network without having to turn on my computer, for convenience. I had a Palm T3 before and loved it for about 4 years moving up to the TX, and bieng able to move all my information between the two saved me alot of work.
suffice to say I am pleased with my purchase.

The Palm TX is a great value on Overstock.com (the cheapest I found on the net or store). The device showed no signs of wear and tear for being refurbished. I love this device! It works great for: mp3 player, photo slideshows, Office documents, organizer, internet and so much more.
