I am an avid mac user but work with PC's on a regular basis with my job. Recently I helped set up a small office network and we needed a great back-up solution for the employees. It was bought to go into the house, but as a temporary solution it allowed multiple laptops and desktops on the network to back-up to it. It is so great on mac's because it backs up without you ever having to do a thing and only backs up any updates instead of totally backing up the entire thing. Apple makes great products and the fact that it includes their extreme N router as well makes this a steal for $299.

I bought this purely for back-ups. I was not interested in the router or wireless features, as I already have devices taking care of those duties on my network. The primary concern for me was being able to back-up my laptops without having to remember to plug-in an external drive. I also wanted to be able to grow the Time Capsule storage by plugging in an external drive to it and back-up to the external disk. Setting up the Time Capsule is a very easy task. I plugged one of the LAN ports (the 3 ports close together) onto my network and launched the AirPort Utility on the laptop. A few clicks later, and I had upgraded the firmware on the Time Capsule and configured it with a static LAN IP address and disabled the WAN/router/wireless capabilities. I was able to run a quick Time Machine test very rapidly. As with a local disk, the first Time Machine back-up takes a long time. I would suggest using a wired gigabit connection rather than doing the first backup over wireless. Subsequent

I got my Time Capsule today. The set-up was supposed to be a breeze, but it is not and I am frustrated. I'm into computers by profession, so I know a thing or two about networks. I may change my opinion after Apple support calls me tomorrow but for now, I will, if possible, give this hardware a zero star. Edit 06/19: Apple support called me last evening. I was trying to setup Time Capsule with Toshiba Windows XP SP 2 computer. The first support guy could only do so much as repeat what is written in manual and suggested that I upgrade to XP SP3, which I refused because the product is advertized to work with XP SP2. Then support guy called in a level higher. Apple support, apparently, does not have a good knowledge of Windows Platform (He asked me if my IP was static and if I could change it to dynamic? He didn't know steps to do so!). Still my problem persists. So bottom line is, if you have *only* a Windows computer think twice before you buy Time Capsule.

I had alot of trepidations about installing this little bugger but all my concerns were unfounded. It truely is plug and play. My only concern now is using it to wirelessly connect to my Apple macbook, circa 2007 and then there is my Apple TV that is sitting patiently in it's box waiting for the old codger to take the plunge. It will happen. The capsulel runs soooooo hot. Is this normal? I don't want to fry anything. All in all a pleasant experience.

It works like advertised and looks very nice. Very easy to configure but I wished that there was more control over "Access Control". Would like to be able to limit "Wired" MAC Access Control and not just "wireless". It does get very warm compared to the Mac Mini (even with a new 320GB 7200 RPM drive I put in the Mini). Probably because the power supply is inside the Time Capsule. I am just using it for the "Time Machine" and it works very very well so far. Very seamless. I just wished we could have a choice of how often it backs up, but it is the "Time Machine" not the "Time Capsule". I have not seen any improvement in range compared to my D-Link DGL-4300 but it then again, I don't have any "N" clients other than the 09 Mac Mini which is hard wired. Have not tried the USB feature yet. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a "Simultaneous Dual Band Router" and needs extra external storage. If you rather not have a 500GB/1TB drive built in then, just get the
