After using the ISP lease modem, it was time for an upgrade. I was directed to Best Buy, who had it in stock and ready for pick up. It's a great replacement to what we were using.

I only had one I internet connection port with Qwest DSL service, they provided me with a Actiontec M1000 and I thought by staying with Actiontec it might help with keeping the installation easier. It did. I needed additional computer ports so I decided to go with the Actiontec GT724WGR. I also use Powerphone VOIP for my phone service and thought that would bring a host of problems with incorporating it into the system. The only thing I needed to do was to get my PPP user name and password from Qwest the auto configuration did the rest, there wasn't an issue with my Powerphone like I thought there would be, installing this was a snap.

I replaced my old 2Wire modem with this device and am extremely satisfied. My old modem was kept going down (once every 3-4 days) and needed a power cycle every time. Sometimes I could see all connections 'green' but it still won't work. I've had this for over a month now and I haven't had to restart it - ever. The connection speed is slightly better too (and more stable). Along with the combined Modem/Wireless router feature, it also has 4 LAN ports so you can setup your home network (printers, NAS equipment, VoIP, etc.) very easily without putting extra hubs in place.

The unit was very easy to set-up, even for a novice as long as you follow the instructions. I replaced a DSL modem and Wireless Router. It has worked great the first night. I tested everything and no problems so far but it's only been one day.

The only minor complaint is the unit is a little larger than the netgear I replaced, but still smaller than the 2 devices I replaced. And it's black and silver so blends in with most Cable boxes and DVD players.

I definitely would recommend this unit.

Took me less than 5 minutes to hook up without the installation disk , if you have At&t dsl I highly reccomend this product. After three 2wire modems and countless service drops the Actiontec #GT724WGR works flawlessly all you have to know is your AT&T member id/email address and password.

What can I say??? 1) Disconnect DSL from old modem the night before. 2) Connect cables and cords 3) click a few menu selections 4) entered my original sbcglobal.net username and password 4) 10 min and 4 secs later, ONLINE ETHERNET AND WIRELESS!!!! THIS PRODUCT IS THE BOMB!!! I LOVE THIS COMPANY!!! I HAVE ATT (sbcglobal) SERVICE, 3 MACS AND 4 WINDOWS I SETUP THE MODEM WITH MY MAC WHILE CONNECTED WITH ETHERNET CABLE, SELECTED THE RECOMMENDED OPTION FOR WIRELESS (WPA), ENTERED MY CHOSEN NETWORK PASSWORD. DISCONNECTED THE ETHERNET CABLE, SELECTED THE NETWORK WITH THE AIRPORT MENU. THE MAC AUTOMATICALLY DETECTED WPA AND ASKED FOR MY PASSWORD. ENTERED MY WPA PASSWORD, AND THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!! I got this modem to replace the because original 8 years old 2wire modem/gateway that came the the original yahoo service was starting to drop connection very frequently. I was going to replace with ATT recommended 2wire modem again, but good thing I did my research, because the review for the 2wire

This Modem worked well for two weeks. After that I could no longer connect to the Internet. I replaced it with the same model and had the same problem. Obviously there is a defect with this particular model.

Finally a DSL router that actually works, December 30, 2009 By Steven Robinson Sr. - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I am a SBCglobal DSL user and I have been sooo frustrated. In the last couple of months I have learned how manually set TCP/IP's in my sleep. Because The Speedstream 4100 OEM unit was getting old and cranky I tried many supposedly good products with big brand names first. The Linksys DSL router was worse, and hard to set up, the Belkin worked but was diffucult to set up and I could'nt get it to recognize my Hawking AP, the Dlink could not be made to work at all, so in an act of blind ignorance I ordered this unknown (to me) Actiontec model. There were few reviews to go by so it was sort of a hail mary moment. Because of some of the posts mentioned modem release issues with ATT/SBC I took the precaution of unplugging the old modem/router in the AM before I left for work, when I got home I followed the Actiontec instructions to the letter,

I read the reviews and made my purchase based on the reviews. I was disappointed by the tech support when trying to connect to my AT&T DSL. I called Actiontech at least 4 times to setup the modem. The tech support was awful...they would not even listen to my problem before telling me it was not them it was my ISP or my computer.

I was finally able to talk to someone that knew something and helped me fixed my problem. All the reviews from other reviewers about the tech support is very accurate. For that reason alone I would not recommend their product to anyone.

I got this after reading the reviews on this one. I am not a computer person just know alittle about them. I have always used Linksys but have always had problems with them. I got this one about week ago on sale. Was very easy to hook up to m AT&T DSL. You only have to know your email and password. Super Easy. This is great if you have NetFlix . with my Linksys router my movies would stop and down load again. With ActionTec movie never stops and down loads again. If you looking for great router buy this one. Super fast.

I had bought this as a replacement to 2wire. Set it up and and had no problems for the first week. Into the second week, my kids computers could no longer connect to the network. Calling Actiontec support was a complete waste of time as the individual I was speaking to kept referring me to my ISP or computer manufacturer but wasn't even willing to contemplate that it might be due to the modem despite being told that everything works fine when switching back to the old modem, as slow and horrendous as that is.
I understand that I got a rare bad apple and Actiontec may work fine for most, but the lack of actual tech support gives me reason to never purchase anything with their name on it again.

I have only been using this a short time, but this receives a hands-down 5 star review for ease of setup, initial performance, and comparison to my AT&T supplied 2Wire 2700 series gateway modem. I ran the AT&T DSL speed test on the 2Wire just prior to replacing and had 2.064 MBPS download, 420.69 upload speed. I re-ran this test on the Actiontec and had 5.110 MBPS download, 660.28 upload speed. I couldn't believe the difference which is very noticeable, for example on a short Youtube video which fully buffers the entire video now in seconds rather than gradually. Installation was ridiculously easy - I just had to go to the IP address listed on the Quick Start guide, put in my ISP username and password, and wait a couple of minutes. Then you name the network and password protect. That's IT. It came up immediately on my other home wireless pc's without any issue, and signal has not dropped once since installation. I was losing connection 3-4 times per day on my 2Wire. Range is excellent

5 Star all around. As a disgrunted AT&T customer enduring 2wire for several years, I decided to try a new one in hopes techology has improved. The reviews sold me on buying this modem. This is so easy to set up and the directions are clear. If you are an AT&T customer, for example, you just need your login and password and follow directions. The modem is great - better download speeds in a rural area, and upload is the same. The price difference between it and 2wire is also amazing. The footprint is small.

I experience lot problems with my modem lately because of the bad quality they had. I personally wanted to get a good quality modem for a decent price and, I took the time to research and to make investigation about what was my best deal. Sellers recommend Linksys because it has a good reputation in the market. What they did not told me is that I will spend three hours at the phone with a technician trying to configure my new modem. I found the Actiontec in the store and I had the feeling that it was what I was looking for. I bought it and I took it home willing to make it work fast. I could not believe it I open the box and I connected to my computer the modem Program itself automatically all you need is to enter you server user name and password. In less than 15 min I was using my computer, laptop, Xbox360, and PS3. In addition this product is easy high quality and fast. Stop looking for Modems this is the one you need if you have DSL.

Other reviewers seemed to like this router, so perhaps it was me that created my problems. I could never get it to stay connected or to work well with my MAC. I found a Belkin model that worked so much better for what I needed. Sorry, I can't recommend this one, but the other reviewers suggest it worked well for them.

Bought this after reading other people's reviews on this site.
It has to be the easiest piece of computer related equipment I have ever bought.
Our Comtrend modem was constantly losing connection and our ISP told us that if we bought a modem it may not work but they could issue a ticket, have a technician come out and get a new modem from them that started at $200. We figured we would try the cheaper option first.
Bought it, plugged it all in and less than five minutes later up and running, wireless network done, no pain at all.
Hopefully it will stay this way !

This was my third wireless modem in a 6-year period, the first 2 (one for cable broadband service and the other for DSL, the service I currently use) are still functioning fine. However, the 5-year old DSL wireless modem did not work with an Aluratec WiFi radio. The Actiontec works great with not only the WiFi radio, but also improved the range and performance of my Belkin WiFi phone.

I have had several routers before. Some failed to keep a link and required to be rebooted, others got hot and failed altogether. Then I purchased an Actiontec 704. It stayed cool, kept the link, and unlike the others, it was easy to setup. Recently I decided to try a wireless. Although I like the Actiontec router I have, I bought a D-link and either it was defective or I wasn't setting it up right. I spent most of three days trying to link up in every way I could think of. I returned it and order the wireless Actiontec. It looks nice, runs cool, I don't have any problems staying linked to the net and I was able to connect a desktop to the ethernet port and a desktop and two laptops to the wireless in extremely short time. I am pleased with the product. Thankyou.

I have had a Speedstream 5100 modem for several years now. When I bought a laptop, I added a Netgear Router. The modem took a few calls to AT&T to get working and the Netgear was SO MUCH of a headache to get working, I finally just got lucky with a connection. Even with wires everywhere, I was able to get good connections. Then my Modem just died. The Netgear was also always going through good and bad cycles. That's when I first HEARD of Modem/Router combinations. I purchased this Modem/Router, plugged it in using the very simple Fast start-up guide. I was running within fifteen minutes! The software is the key. It just asks a few simple questions, tells you to type in the `IP' address in your browser and then starts configuring your system automatically. No calls to AT&T! After installation, everything worked remarkable well. My laptop had a strong signal from 100 feet away through several walls (including the kitchen). For you techies, I was able to maintain a 3.0 mbps and

I bought this router due to the fact that this router/modem has four Ethernet ports on the back of it, instead of our older 5 year old Actiontec which only had one Ethernet port. It was very easy to set up, but had a small minor issue with the wireless not storing the WEP key. It was fixed after I rebooted it a couple of times. I recommend this router if you are upgrading it from a previous model of Actiontec.

AT&T provides my DSL service. After a power outage, my wireless network had completely disappeared and I could no longer access the internet by having my Speedstream 5100 Modem and Netgear WGR614 router work together like they used to. I spent 3 hours on the phone with AT&T Tech Support and got no further than where I was before I called them. All they could offer me was (1) paying a fee to have one of their technicians fix it for me, or (2) to buy one of their 2Wire modem/routers with the promise that their tech support could walk me thru THAT setup. No thank you!! I had had enough! So I started researching modem/routers at Best Buy.

I am SO happy that I decided to buy the ActionTec Wireless DSL Modem!!!! Set up was absolutely a breeze! I was surfing the internet and my secured wireless network was working again within 10 minutes! You just need your ISP ID and password. The directions are VERY clear and easy to follow. The signal strength is strong and everything is working

I purchased this to replace my AT&T 2wire. It far exceeded my expectations. Set up was easy, didn't need the CD. I Just followed the on screen instructions.
The wireless speed is better than I ever had before with 2Wire and I now have 4 ports available.
You need your ISP ID (your e-mail for AT&T) and password.

This thing had great reviews all around after looking at other modem/router brands I gave it a try. It was waaay easy to set up. It worked great for about a week. Then week two starts and poof ...Poor WI-FI signal 13.26 feet away from thing {with line of sight} . Followed by my wired connections just randomly disconnecting. All in all Actiontec is generic in my opinion, and as always you WILL get what you pay for, or in this case even less, go with the Netgear DG834G!
Bestbuy sells it for the same price.

I bought it because of the reviews, which were excellent. I wasn't so easy to install, I took me about 45 min on the Phone w/Verizon. The connection it provided was extremely slow and would cut in and out.

I returned it and bought the NetGear one for the same price. It works excellent and was much easier to install and as a plus is an Energy-Star device.

Thanks to others' reviews, I knew to get my PPP user name & password before I plugged this in, but it turned out, I didn't even need to. I did have the Qwest QuickConnect disk, and it did it all for me. Great to be back online without wondering how much longer I'll be online before I have to reset the modem! This was a replacement for my 3 1/2 year old modem I got from Qwest when I got on DSL. Great product so far!

I don't usually write reviews but I do read them. When my Qwest 2Wire modem bit the dust after a little over 2 years I called Qwest for a replacement. They were more then helpful but I didn't want to wait 4-5 business days to get a new modem. I went online to Best Buy and started checking out my options. Even though this modem received great reviews I fully expected a long drawn out evening of waiting on tech support lines trying to configure it and get back online. Much to my surprise it went from the box to me writing this review in about 20min. The only information I needed to supply was my PPP username and password. The auto configuration did everything else. Just like the description and reviews said. If your looking for a good modem that's easy to set-up this is the one. I had an Actiontec modem before and never had any trouble with it. Glad to be back with Actiontec.

Had an old ATT 2WIRE for a few years and it seemed like it wasn't doing the job anymore. Out of the other Modem/Router combos out there there wasn't really much that I hadn't tried. This was the only one and already had really good reviews so I picked it up. When I brought it home I plugged in and followed the instructions it came with for ATT customers. It was incredibly simple and just required that I know my ATT username/password to access my DSL stream. It then walks you through naming your new network, adding security and a WPA passcode and viola! you're done. I couldn't believe how easy it was to install and how well it's working compared to the old hardware. If someone is looking for a new router/modem combo to replace existing hardware, this is definitely the best way to go.

For years, I've had the following setup. Wired Speedstream modem connected to a wired Linksys router that was connected to a wireless Linksys router. For some reason, I couldn't connect to my work through VPN just using the Speedsteam modem to wireless router. So one would think, oh I'll just get the 2wire wireless modem from AT&T, right? Wrong! That modem might work, but I've read horror stories about that modem. The most common problem was that it would drop the DSL signal on a regular basis. So I passed. When I found the Actiontec GT724WGR wireless, I gave it a try and I am never turning back. It just works. It's an all in one solution. All my laptops can connect wirelessly. I am able to connect to VPN with no issues. Probably the best part of this experience is that the setup was so easy even a caveman could do it! First screen you choose auto detect connection, second screen you enter in your ISP username/password, and that is about it! I was up and running.

Purchased this as a replacement for an old Verizon Westell 327w DSL modem. Our network is mixed with one PC running Windows Vista and several Macs, including Intel and PowerMac wired desktops and wireless laptops, all running the current version of Leopard OS (10.5.8). Setup was quick and easy and everything worked -- at first. I had a five year old Wireless Repeater that I tried to setup with the Actiontec but I was never successful. After giving up, I discovered my wired computers (Macs and the PC) were no longer able to see the network. Tried rebooting the router via power switch and via software using the browser interface, disconnecting and reconnecting all cables, etc. -- nothing worked. Actiontec support answered right away but groaned when I mentioned we had Macs. I told him that the PC didn't work either and after a few obvious questions about our setup, told me that the problem was the computers, not the Actiontec. I was in disbelief. Logic dictated that FOUR different computers,

Quick set-up wasn't, needed support from ISP, but once set-up, runs fine. Experience great speeds depending on volume of traffic. Previous modem was Actiontec, but old model. No loss of signal and no downtime.

My Linksys took a dive after 6 months of use. And that was after buying and returning Belkin, Netgear and another Linksys that did not last long either. Well anyway. I also wanted a new modem for my DSL. After almost 5 years of use. I called my provider (DSL EXTREME) and they told me that it is still a current modem. Well i guess that's okay but was tired i mean tired of unpluging the modem and then unpluging the router and then pluging it back in over and over again and again..so after my Linksys took a dump, i was looking at modem/routers. Saw the reviews for Actiontec and decided to buy it. After all i have been through with these routers what the heck. Brought it home and like all the reviews said. Followed the user guide and in 15 MINIUTES!!! I was connected!!! Not only that but my internet seems a little bit faster. Have not seen any slowdown yet. Mabye because i get a constant sigal. something that the other routers seem not to do... I did a test that my provider has on there website

I normally don't write these but I use them all the time to evaluate items, go figure. This product was so easy to install that I had to write a review. I am sure I was up and running in under a half an hour of getting it home. I was also able to finally get my Direct Tv ON Demand to work by utilizing the router function on this particular modem/router. Something my Linksys nor 2Wire seem to be able to do before the 2Wire modem took a dump. If you are looing for an easy to use affordable modem, this is the way to go.

Had this Modem for only two days (my Qwest provided modem died). Took 3 MINUTES to set up, instructions are clear and simple, no CD needed - just plug and play. You WILL need your user ID and password (not e-mail!) from your ISP provider.Performance is much better then my old 2 Wire, which lasted only 13 months. Price is not too bad, if you consider similar modems can take an hour or more to set up.

I have AT&T DSL, and my 2WIRE modem broke in less than 2 years. I bought this modem, and so far so good. Easy to set up, instructions are very user friendly. For AT&T users, just make sure that you know your username and password (most likely it is email@att.net). AT&T DSL tech support can easily provide this information for you.

I bought this product to enable wireless networking in my home and it was so easy to set up. I didn't even have to look at the user manual, just viewed the quick install guide. Took the equipment out of the box, hooked it up to my DSL line, went thru the installation wizard, enabled wireless communications on my computer, brought up my browser, and I was good to go.

This item is attractive and powerful. Don't listen to the bad hype about the combo router/modem, this item is GREAT! I did have some issues with setup but the problems were on my DSL provider's end and Actiontec service was still very helpful in fixing them. The item has been working wonderfully for a month now.

We rent this modem from our DSL provider (TDS) and we have never had any problems with it! It has wizards built into its firm ware that makes setting it up easy. After it was set up, it had unbelievable speed. It was almost as if i was on fios! This product just works and I'd recommend it to anyone!

My Actiontec GT701-WG Gateway quit working with my Linksys Wireless Printserver. I saw the reviews on the GT724-WGR and decided to try it. My initial attempt at installing it with Qwest DSL went awry but after a couple of emails with Actiontec, determined I must not have obtained the correct password from Qwest. Another call to Qwest confirmed that I had indeed been given the wrong password. When calling Qwest to obtain the correct user name and password, especially if replacing an Actiontec modem, be sure to emphasize you are replacing the old with the GT724WGR because the password will be different. The GT724WGR is working great, my printserver is connected wirelessly and my computer is running faster! If it lasts for a few years I'll be a very happy camper!

This was virtually plug and play ...until I tried to log in to the config site. Being a veteran MACie I've grown used to " we don't have info on MAC."

The instructions included are clear and easy.
I had this plugged in and on the Internet in 5 minutes.

When I went to the confuration site it wouldn't log in.
A call to tech support walked me through the usual protocals
and then basiclly said it was a MAC issue and I would have to contact Apple support. They were right. Once I created a new Ethernet service I connected seamlessly and configured the modem & router. That's when the fun began.

I used a password with illegal charaters for the ISP provider service.
Immediately I was redirected to the ISP provider password utitly for any site I tried to put in.

Since I couldn't connect to the Actiontec site to reassign the password I was hosed. A call to my ISP provider support (which went like a "Who's on First" script) ISP provider finally

I bought this to replace my ADSL modem and a Netgear Wireless router combo. Using the combo was a hassle and required resetting the equipment at least once per day due to frequent loss of internet. I was worried that it might be a cheap product due to the name 'actiontec' but I trusted the reviews here. The setup was painless with AT&T DSL. Setting up secured wireless access was simple and worked the first time. It has been running now for 48 strait hours with no loss of internet, no loss of speed, no loss of wireless access .. in other words it WORKS! A rarity with wireless equipment. Another plus this thing really blasts the WiFi signal, it seems to be twice as strong as my old Netgear wireless. The unit seems very well built, only time will tell if it is actually built to last and if it keeps up it's flawless performance in the months to come. I have a wireless xbox360, wireless ps3, wired DirecTV DVR, my computer and a wireless iPhone all using the device with zero problems. It

the router purchased as new may have been used - the power supply cord was not bundled like a new item - worth checking at the store
in any case the connection was extremely easy and there are only good things to say about the purchase
This was a replacement for a 2wire 2700-HG-B which had failed after two years. Read all of the less than good reviews of the newer 2wire model vs this unit and went with the recommendations of the community.
The only difficulty was setting up the wireless connection on another computer using a d-link wireless card (too many options to choose from and not having read the user manual probably made it more difficult - man law).
Would highly recommend and it was less expensive then other brands.
Good luck.....d

My SBC (Now ATT) 2Wire DSL Modem broke one night, and I needed a new DSL Modem STAT.

The store had three wireless DSL Modem-with 4 port switches, and after a while of deliberating, I choose Actiontec, over two slightly better known brands (zoom and diamond) I recognized zoom, from analog phone modems in years past, and diamond, from video cards in years past, but never heard of Actiontec.

I had no clear cut winner in my hand, but the ActionTec had a copyright date of 2008, the other two had a 2007, and the Package box info seemed very complete, so I figured newer is better, right? And I had 30 days to return it, so why not!

VERY HAPPY with my decision. Cannot comment on the Zoom or Diamond, so please do not infer that they are bad, but the ActionTec GT724WGR worked perfectly, and it took minutes to set up.

I was afraid that there was some kind of "secret" settings for my ATT DSL connection, and that a "generic" DSL Modem would not work.

I followed the very simple, and easy to follow

I bought the Actiontec modem after days of combing through reviews both good and bad on various other products to replace my ailing 2Wire 1000SW box. I was planning to stick with the latest 2Wire box but decided not to based on current reviews. I am glad I did, I followed the instructions they provided to the letter and all was up and running in less than 15 minutes. All my other devices recognized it and encountered no issues connecting to it. Range and speed are noticeably better.

I bought this to replace the awful ATT 2701 Gateway, which recycled itself all the time. This modem has worked perfectly from day one. No special installation required with my ATT DSL service, it located it right away and we were off and running.
The wireless signal is good and the surfing speed is good as well.
I would certainly recommend this to anyone who is having trouble with their 2701, what a relief.

Bought this to replace our 2wire which broke after 6yrs of use. Would not work with our AT&T broadband service like promised. Called their Tech Service and was useless. Refrered me back to AT&T for every problem I had. Called their TEch Service a second time after talking with AT&T got the same guy and got same garbage from him again. MADE NO ATTEMPTS to assit me. Could not answer a single question I had. I would not buy any of their products ever again. Even If I could get it to work they proved unsucesful at being able to answer the simplest of questions. Their instrucional manual a PDF file and did not provide any help either. Just my two cents

Had an original Speed Stream DSL modem from SBC now AT&T and a Trendnet 54g wireless router and figured it was time to upgrade since I have been getting a lot of wireless drop outs. I originally was going with the 2wire 2701hg but read a few reviews that weren't favorable. I decided to go with an all in one gateway and finally settled it and got the Actiontec GT724WGR. This unit was very easy to set up, it automatically picked up the AT&T DSL settings (VPI/VCI, mode, QoS, and gateway dns) all I had to do was enter my username and password. It has a nice feature rich configuration utility. The one thing that people might find at fault with is the lack of security settings. You can only chose two setting either wep or wpa personal tkip.
With that said this box also helped clear up the clutter I had. All I have connected now is one box with two wires, the phone line and the power line. Before I had two boxes with four wires.
The Actiontec GT724WGR also runs warm but not hot
