So far, my experience with Sony's KDL-46V4100 has been very good. Picture is excellent, after about 4 months I have had no problems. The only dilemma I had was user error - at first I had some older DVD players which would not function on the Composite input to the TV. I finally had Sony service come out to show me that my older players, even though they had composite output, were not compatible with this television (duh). But, I had one newer player than worked just fine. Service could have charged me $100 for the visit, but they didn't, the technician was patient with my ignorance. So I would rate my local service provider for Sony very highly. Quite a shocker.
I purchased this TV with the help of a friend. The price was definitely right but I was most concerned with connectivity. I needed something which had room for expansion. With 4 HDMI ports, all my problems were solved.
If you have a sony blueray player, you can set it up so when a disc is put in, the tv will automatically switch settings to the BR player and take you to the menu. It's super easy to use and looks great!
This TV is great. It has every feature that I require. Even though it is 60hz when watching blurays you get a more subtle smoothing effect, which I prefer to the 120hz effect, when cinemotion is engaged. The sound is not important because I have an htib system. But strangely enough the tie breaker between this tv and the Samsung LN46B550 was the S-Video input. I needed one for my media center and its amazing how many of the newer tvs neglect that input. So the bottom line is if you are looking for a tv that has a great picture and a great feature set this is the way to go. 63 reviews with an average of 4.8 speaks for itself.
picture quality is very good. there's a ton of adjustment for those who have the time and the inclination to do so. this tv is also a good example of sony engineering - easy to use, enough functionality. can't comment about the stand as it is wall mounted. sound could be better. this tv is in a bright room where reflections can't be avoided. the matte screen finish helps alleviate that. bb did a price match on this tv (was selling cheaper at another retailer) and that sealed the deal. an aside: bravia link works with a panasonic blu ray player connected via HDMI.
Bought this unit after reviewing my first larger HD TV purchase. Price on it hovered between $1200 on other retailers to $1500 over the past few months. Finally purchased this at $1099 last week when it was on sale (didn't want that PS3 that they were packaging with it, buy a blue ray player by itself). Plus the 3 years free financing was a great deal too. This is one TV that gets great reviews everywhere and I can now see why. Quality picture, sound is much better than my 22" Samsung LCD HD. Set up was a breeze, I would recommend getting a home theater system with it though, just to make it that much better.
been looking for a great deal on a tv and when i seen the price on a sony at best buy i just coulndn't pass it up. great picture and sound and a perfect size, not so big it takes up half a room. love it love it!!!!!
I looked around for a few weeks at different brands and different stores. I went back and forth between 120Hz or 60Hz, 40in or 46in, and all the different brands. I just couldn't see the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz for just watching TV and DVD's. When I found this Sony for $899 Bestbuy price matched it and I was sold. Overall I am happy with my Sony. Excellent picture with HDTV. I would not go back now to conventional 480dpi TV. The 1080 in clear and the Sony name gives me confidence along with the Bestbuy store behind it. I could have found a 120Hz, with a lesser name, at Walmart, Target, Frys, Costco, and/or Sams but I would just have a lesser name at a store that I wouldn't have confidence in if a problem arises.
I struggled for weeks trying to decide what to buy for my bedroom. I was pretty much sold on the Samsung LN40N550 but a friend urged me to look more closely at the Sony. I've owned several Sony's over the years and have always been very happy but I was concerned that this Sony had a much lower Contrast Ratio than the Samsungs. Fortunately, that has turned out to be a non-issue. This Sony rocks! HD Cable is gorgeous and Blu-Ray is incredible. Standard Def cable is not great but better than many other sets I've seen. (Why do HDTVs generally suck with SD signals?). I've read some complaints about the remote control but I find it extremely well designed and easy to use.<br/><br/>Samsung's are great - my friend bought a 120Hz model that rocks - but I love my Sony.
Ecstatic with the TV. Image is crystal clear, received Sony Blu Ray Disc player for only $100 which was another Bonus. Sound at times goes up and down, but does not happen to often. GREAT BUY!!!
My previous TV (32" JVC tube) was a wedding gift from way back in 2000. Obviously, I do not get these that often, so I wanted to make sure I did my research. I read every one of the reviews on the net, from here and elsewhere, and I'll tell you - this TV is awesome! I could go on and on here, but if you are like me, you will read all the reviews anyway, so I want to touch on some of things I noticed that maybe had not been mentioned elsewhere.<br/><br/>These TVs are designed to work well with HD. That's what they are supposed to do. Where this TV excelsdiffers from others is that it gives a great standard def picture as well. My daughter loves to watch her cartoons, and most are on channels that do not have HD, at least with IO. But I will tell you, the picture is fantastic.<br/><br/>Blu Ray movies look fantastic, but again, they should. I only have a handful of Blu Ray movies, so most of my library are standard DVDs. Now I am sure using my PS3 as my Blu Ray player helps, but standard DVDs look fantastic as well. I know the PS3 upconvertsa and all, but I never expected to see what I saw from these DVDs!<br/><br/>A few reviews mentioned that the picture gets too dark during certain dark scenes. I saw this at first as well, but it is a "feature" Sony came up with and IT CAN BE TURNED OFF! If you read the instruction manual, it goes through all of this in detail. There are a lot of settings on this TV (and again, if you are like me and have a PS3, you have a ton of settings to change here as well) and if you have one of them off, it could ruin your viewing experience.<br/><br/>I cannot really comment on sound because I have two children, so the only time I really get to watch this TV is while they are sleeping, and as any parent knows, you cannot blast the TV! But sound seems great to me. Again, change all the settings to your liking, and you will not be disappointed.<br/><br/>On the down side - this TV has a Picture & picture (not picture in picture) feature which I thought was going to be real cool. The issue is that you can only use this for your PC hookup. TV and PC or BR and PC, etc. So for someone like me, it's a waste. My cable has PIP anyway, so no big deal. But don't be swayed when it says P&P.<br/><br/>Finally, I was really debating on getting this, or the newer model for 2009, the 46V5100, which is $400 - $500 more expensive depending on when and where you buy it. The 5100 has a USB (My PS3 has two of these already, so this is a non-issue) and obviously, the big selling point is the 120 Hz. Now the BB where I purchased this had the two TVs side by side (bad move on their part - may have gotten another $500 from me!) and the salesman asked me if I could see a difference. To be honest, I could not. If you are one of these people that has to have the latest and greatest, well then get the 5100, but just know you'll be returning it in about a month when the 6100 comes out. I will compare it to my digital camera I purchased last year (also a Sony). I wanted to get the 13 mega-pixel one. It was only $200 more than the 10 MP, so why not, right? Again, the salesman convinced me it was overkill. Do you really need it? If you are going to use it to print out a 24" x 36" portrait of your kid's face, sure, it's probably necessary - otherwise, you'll never know the difference.<br/><br/>So to sum up - great pic, great sound, great buy! Just read the instructions, and you will get the most out of this product.
I am not a techie but I am very impressed with this TV. I haven't really played with all the features yet but so far it has been very easy to navigate the menus and change the settings. I don't watch a lot of TV but I watched some blu-ray movies on my PS3 with it, and it looks amazing. I mostly play games on it and the wide screen plus HD has made playing much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this TV.
This is my second HDTV. My first was a Proscan 26LB30QD, for my bedroom. The Proscan has the worst backlight bleed I've ever seen, a horrible vertical viewing angle and no remote, because I got the display. PQ and SQ are fine, especially for such a small space, but needless to say, I had not fully experienced HD until our Sony.<br/><br/>This model caught my eye early on with its price and features. In the store, its vivid colors and deep blacks also caught my eye, coincidentally. I researched/begged my parents for months, and came full circle to this set, when BestBuy had it on sale a couple of weeks ago for $1199. Of course with tax and warranty fees, it was well above $1500, but I'm ecstatic with this TV.<br/><br/>I'm an avid reader of CNET.com and the best online window shopper you've ever known. I'm also college-aged. Techy things fascinate me, and I consider myself fairly knowledge about current electronics. After research on LCD vs. Plasma, 60Hz vs. 120 Hz, Sony vs. Samsung and all of that, we still chose this Bravia set.<br/><br/>I also bought an Init stand, if you check my other reviews, and had it already assembled when I received a call from BestBuy saying that the delivery would be made within minutes. The Geek Squad had this set installed/hooked up to my XBOX & DVR/synced with my Fios remote in literally, no more than five minutes. They were kids my age (19-20). The best part though: the services were free! After they left, I played with the set all day.<br/><br/>My praises are innumerable, so I'll merely list the important ones:<br/><br/>- MotionFlow 60Hz: (AKA CineMotion) On its highest setting this set makes scenes look like 120Hz. Personally, I think that looks awkward, like things are happening before they actually happen. I don't know, but I've lessened its effects (Auto 2).<br/>- 1080p: Self-explanatory. I now find myself watching QVC all the time, just because the HD, albeit 720p, is phenomenal. I can't wait for Blu-Ray.<br/>- 46": Looks huge in my medium-sized living room. I love showing it off.<br/>- XMB: The familiar Sony interface is easy-to-use and graphically well-rounded.<br/>- Sound: Having heard bad things about the sound on flat panels, I now think all of those people are crazy. The sound on this set is great! I use surround for movies, but casual viewing is more than comfortable.<br/>- BRAVIA TheatreSync: This set works flawlessly through one remote with my Sony Bravia DAV-HDX265 sound system.<br/>- Input Profiles: For each input, you can save a different set of picture and sound settings. So, I have the colors set to be displayed more vividly/sounds to be more dynamic on my XBOX 360 than on my Fios box.<br/>- Game Mode: Excellent for prospective buyers who own a system.<br/><br/>I honestly could go on for much longer, but I'll start on the negatives:<br/><br/>- Sound Output: When using my surround, I have to manually disable the speakers through the menu. My complaint is more out of worry that my mom, while I am at school, won't be able to do that when using the DVD player. I've gotten the set to automatically disable the speakers when switching to the DVD's HDMI input, but re-enabling is manual.<br/>- Fingerprints: The panel around the screen will have prints all over it, if you're like me and caress it daily.<br/>- Visual Anomalies: This is obviously a problem with my Fios box/wiring, but probably worth mentioning. On FoxHD, there is a thin, line of snow above the picture. Also, on STARZHD the picture pixelates/freezes periodically. Strange, but nothing to make me change my mind about this set, since the phenomena happen on specific channels.<br/>- Light Sensor/Power Saving Mode: These features just made the screen dark for no reason. I see someone else complained about it, and therefore returned the set. I, however, as a rational human being, disabled the modes. The set is on at full brightness and I haven't looked back. It's a cool feature, but my living room is too bright to take advantage of it.<br/><br/>I can't speak for the future, but so far, I love the set. Not a day has gone by where I haven't paused while watching a show and said, "Look how clear this is!" I can't wait to purchase a Blu-Ray player for my entertainment center.<br/><br/>This set is highly recommended for its value, features and impeccable picture/sound quality. 5/5!
I had bought the budget minded Dynex 42 inch (which I love) for the other room about six months ago and now it was time for a bigger model. I had only paid $699 for the Dynex so I thought let me go a big higher end and I couldn't think of anything better than a Sony Bravia.<br/><br/>The TV has it all -- sound is incredible; lots of features; tons of features and adjustments available and this set even has the TV Guide on screen listings which are a + and a - all in one (read below).<br/><br/>Now for some nitpicking, that's what it's here for right?<br/><br/>The little ENERGY STAR sticker on the right side near the screen is on crooked. I'll have to see if it peels off cause it's one thing to be there but it's not even straight and looks tacky. All of the pictures of this model I've seen don't have it on their so I'm thinking it should come off.<br/><br/>I've done some research and found the annoying clicking (every now and again) sound coming from the TV when powered off is evidently the TV Guide listings being updated. While this doesn't happen that often, it is noticable and can be heard from a room away.<br/><br/>I love this TV and the price ($1199 at the time). This was a SUPER BUY from BEST BUY. Throw in their exceptional delivery which is FREE and it's icing on the cake. I thought about a Vizio this time around but I'm glad I didn't, I think the Sony brand speaks for itself.
I bought this tv because a few people I know have sony's and liked them a lot. It has a great hd picture with lots of hdmi ports on it. I did a lot of research before buying this tv. It was between LG, Samsung or Sony and I went with the Sony. Very easy to set up and use. So far no problems with it at all. I got it for only $1,200 which was $300 off the original price. I didn't have to mess with the settings much to get the picture the way I wanted it.
