When I first tried the Coby MP735, I wanted to take a hammer, smash it to pieces and send it back to Coby. But I resisted that urge, studied it and now I like it. The slip-and-flip speakers are great. The device feels nice in your hand. It has a sharp little interface and it plays video and audio rather well. Put a few TV shows onto the device and you have a toy that will keep you entertained for hours during a long trip. The firmware is a bit tricky however. Unlike other players, the Coby MP735 does not create an internal database of your music collection from the metadata of the individual files. Consequently, you have to synchronize all of your music with a music manager such as MS Windows Media Player, Amarok, etc. If you do not synchronize, you can still play the files, but they will play in any random order (which is lousy if you want to listen to a full concert or album). It is also difficult to encode a video file to play on the device without the software utility that

I wanted a player with a speaker, which Apple does not make. So I bought a Coby MP735, which has a pair of speakers.
At full volume it is possible to listen to the speakers if you stay close to the player and are in a perfectly quiet room. Under more normal circumstances the speakers are useless.
When recharging the unit heats up slightly (as most players do). The problem is that the front panel is glued on with a glue that releases when warm. So the top half of the front panel pops off every time. The glue seems to be getting weaker with each recharge.
The unit has a track-pad control with 6 hot spots, a button on the side, and an on/off/hold switch on the side. The track-pad control does different things at different times. The hot spots and the side button do different things depending on how long they are pressed and the current state of the unit. With so many buttons and so many modes learning to use the player is a complex task with many things to remember. The buttons have a very

It is very small and looks like an ipod nano. The speakers work well and it is a breeze to copy music into. It works with wmp 11. It comes with a device to allow videos to be copied into a format that works with this. I haven't had a chance to use that yet. The earphones are very impressive- far from the cheap ones you usually get with these machines. I would prefer the speakers to be louder. They are good for allowing a few friends in a table sized area to hear your music, but they don't replace a stereo. It is pretty user friendly. It needs to be charged using your computer, which may or may not be an advantage to some people. Overall I prefer this to my daughter's expensive ipod nano. It is a fourth of the price and for music listening it does as good a job or better.
