This item is a dream to have. I ride the bus to and from work and this player comes in real handy. I was able to put 64 dvds that I own on it and organize it any way I want, plus over 400 songs. The only minor thing I didn't like was the fact that I had to purchase an additional cinema, podcast, and web browser plugin which was a total of $70.00 for all. It is all worth it though because I can get on the web listen to music and watch movies and shows. I would not recommend this unit to take to the gym as a work out unit. It is a little bulky and heavy. The screen size, memory space and options definitely beats the Microsoft Zune and the Apple I touch. Hope this helps with your final decision.

After doing some research for about 2 months, I recently purchased the Archos 605 80GB and the DVR Dock with the Plug-Ins you have to purchase the plug-ins from Archos and I love it. I can do so much more with this thing than the I-Pods, Zunes etc..... Using the DVR I can record my favorite shows and take them with me to watch when I want, listen to my music and watch movies I've downloaded or ripped from my own collection. The video for movies are great when using the Cinema plug-in. It allows you to use vob files! That alone will save time not having to convert the files to play as with the Zone and I-Pod. The recorded TV shows are not as good as the movies but are still quiet good. I have full control over all the files and can use it as a mass storage device, try doing that with an I-Pod or Zune. I can use the WiFi to surf the net download movies or whatever. I have a two story home with a wireless router and have been able to use the WiFi anywhere in the house. I haven't tried going

I got my Archos 605 in the mail yesterday and am in general happy with it. However, a few things that you need to know if you buy this product:
1) Make the leap to firefox. Technical support finally directed me to this; apparently the Archos website and store just don't work well with IE.
2) Prepare to spend a good amount of time setting this up. It's not an iPod, with the happy iTunes plug and play features. This is a powerful system that is not trivial to get what you want to do. If you're the type who likes puzzles and configuring software, this is the product for you. If you didn't like programming your tivo, I would suggest another product.
3) What people are saying about the plugins are right -- you totally have to buy multiple plugins to do what you want.
4) If you are an audible user...audible files aren't going to play on this thing. AAC files will, so your audiobooks you bought on iTunes will work.
5) Take the plunge and invest in a battery dock of some sort from Archos.
