Adequate but not great

Ordered this radio because it had features we liked: two alarms, alarm and radio work even if power fails, pre-set channels. However, its quality is disappointing, especially because of the usual quality we expect from a Sony. The reception is poor (we live in a city and rarely have reception issues) and the sound is poor. According to the instructions, there is no way to improve reception except playing with the power cord, i.e. the antenna. To top it off, the watch-type battery which was supposed to save all of the factory pre-sets was dead (must have been in storage a while) and we had to reset everything (not really that hard). We'll keep it because we mainly use the radio for its alarm functions, but I would not buy it if you plan to listen to the radio a lot, as you will be very disappointed.

A Clock Radio That Fills A Niche

Overall, this is a great clock radio. I especially like the fact that it has a connection for an mp3 player. There are so many clock radios with ipod docks but very few with the ability to utilize mp3 players. Controls are straightforward for ease of use with many snooze/sleep options. I like the built-in battery backup option too. I just wish the sound quality was better. Any clock radio with the ability to play anything other than just the radio should have better quality sound.

Good Little Clock Radio

This is a replacement for a 20-year-old Sony. It does just what it says it will, comes with the date and time pre-loaded since I live in the Eastern time zone and was not hard to program the stations or alarm. The display is VERY bright, so much so that I had to turn it around to fall asleep. Then it makes a soft glow on the wall which I can live with.

Very functional

The Sony AM/FM clock radio is a good deal. Its price is low, yet it has lots of features. What's best is its digital radio tuning and multiple presets. The sound is very good for morning wake up, but it's not quite up to more expensive radios. The set up requires that you read the well-written and clear instructions. All in all a good clock radio that is well worth its low price given all the features it offers.

Sony Got It Almost Right

The good: 1) Great feature set including: sleep, nap, dual alarms, adjustable snooze, digital tuning, auto daylight savings adjustment, aux in. 2) The current time and both alarm settings (on/off, time, and alarm type (radio,buzzer,...)) are shown at all times. Nice! 3) Its reasonably easy to use: a few key buttons, well placed, make normal tasks easy. The bad: 1) I've had FM reception problems: the power cord is the FM antenna, so getting it (and the radio) positioned properly was a pain (and I ended out with the cord in an awkward location). 2) The display is black letters on a white background -- easy to read, but pretty bright even on its dimmest setting in the middle of the night. Be warned: 1) "Automatic time set" means they preset the time at the factory. It does NOT set itself to the U.S. atomic clock. 2) "Automatic daylight savings time adjustment" has pre-programmed (and non-adjustable) start and end dates, so if they ever change DST days again the feature won't work.
