Philips 4 GB SA3245 Digital Audio/Video Player (SA3245/37)
I don't normally right reviews but felt it was my duty to do so with this product. I purchased this product at Wal-Mart. My initial impression was that it was a slick and stylish player. Very small, compact, thin... So far so good.

The problem comes when you actually try to use it. Not user friendly at all. It's very easy to add music files to the player, however, it is very difficult to play them as expected. YOU CAN'T MAKE A PLAYLIST!!!! I am used to adding tons of music to a player and making all sorts of play lists that I can pick from depending on my mood or activity. Not having this feature is unacceptable. I should say that you can make a "play list" but only by pressing the "play list" button every time a song comes on that you like. Not only is that a pain, it is hard to press the button hundreds of times to add the songs to a list as the button is so small which causes you to miss it most of the time. I agree w/ the second reviewer.... WHY have a menu item playlists (notice the plural) & not let you make any playlists, my phone is a better mp3 player in those respects, I should not have wasted my money, I stupidly thought a machine dedicated to only one purpose would have more music playing features -not less :

I bought this product a week ago and am returning it asap, and I rarely return things, as I can usually find a way to work around things. I am a previous owner of an iPod Nano, and that may be coloring my criticisms, so take this as some disclosure.

First, I found that random shuffle isn't really random. On the iPod I had, when I requested a random shuffle, it would actually shuffle the music and I could not detect any patterns in music sequence between any two shuffles. Not so with GoGear. Over the course of a week, I could detect patterns such that when song A was playing, I knew what the next 10 songs would be, and that was irritating. Not only did the same patterns repeat, they repeated on a small subset of songs -- there were tons of songs that were never played when in random mode!

Second, I thought that I could circumvent that by making playlists. The users guide and online FAQ said I could do this through Windows Media Player. That may be true of some of the other models
