I bought this TV about nine months ago and recently, it started to show verticle lines. I called Amazon and they differed me to Samsung. I called Samsung. They were very polite and scheduled an appointment to fix my TV. The techinician had to come back three times to fix the TV. He suggested to buy high priced electronics form big chain stores such as Best Buy, [...] or Sears as they are classified as Class I stores to receive the best quality prodduct. The Class II stores, such as smaller chain stores, get the B quality products and lastly, the C grade products are sold to online clearance such as Amazon. He indicated that majority of his service calls are for the TVs purchased through online retail places. My TV is fixed for now and keeping my finger crossed as I only have few months left on warrenty.

I've now viewed two Samsung LCD tvs including this model. They both have the same disconcerting problem that others may call a feature. Yes, the picture is sharp. However, objects in the foreground are excessively sharp and well defined relative to the background. It makes me feel like I'm watching the program through a cheap digicam. I don't know what you'd call this effect but I can't call it a good viewing experience. Now, that picture 'feature' may be good for football games but not for network tv shows where it's the most pronounced. It's evident to a lesser extent on movies. I would not buy this tv.

I purchased the LN46A650 in December 08 and it is my first flat panel television. I currently have an aging Pioneer Elite RPTV in the den/home theater so this Samsung is for the kitchen/family room.

Delivery: Overall delivery was very good and set up was ok, although the delivery man told my wife he could not connect it to our cable (Fios HD), only to an antenna. Since I don't have an antenna he turned it on to static and was then satisfied it was working and left.

Initial Impression: When I got home and connected it to the Fios box with HDMI my wife's first words were that it just looks so much more high def than our Pioneer HDTV and I agreed.

Physical: I was initially very worried about the red touch of color, but it really is barely noticeable unless there is a back light or a lot of light in the room. The TV is not too heavy and overall has a very attractive sleek look. It does collect dust on the bezel and stand especially, so dust often.

Interface/Controls: The menu system

Given an HD input source (i.e., HD cable or DVD/Blue-Ray) the monitor will produce very sharp pictures. Watching standard definition programs, however, is a bit disappointing. Standard def video images appear blurred and there is visible pixelation.

The remote control is easy to use with large buttons and a relatively intuitive layout. Note: the Closed Caption button will only work if the TV is connected to your cable box via the "Antenna" input jack. If you are connecting to your cable system via the component or HDMI jacks, then Closed Captioning can only be activated via the cable provider's remote control unit.

Due to the many connection options provided with this unit, I had to contact Samsung technical support to get a better understanding of the various inputs for antenna, component and HDMI connections.

Films that are shown at 120hz look like video because our brains process images at the equivalent of about 60hz. Film has traditionally had that "dreamy" look because it was shot at 24 frames per second, which introduces motion blur, (many things in life move faster than what 24 frames per second can capture as a still image). I was just looking at this TV and other 120hz models at Best Buy. They were playing clips from "Pirates of the Caribbean and Speed. The picture was razor sharp, but it was TOO sharp. The movies did not look the way they looked in the theatre when they were projected on film at 24 frames per second. The lack of any motion blur was unnatural. In case you're interested, the reason why your computer screen will flicker and you will get headackes if your refresh rate is set below 60 hz is also because your brain processes images at the equivalent of 60hz. Wagon wheels appear to spin in the opposite direction when they are spinning around at the equivalent of 60hz because of this reason, also. As for the TV, I have to go with a 60hz set. I could never watch movies on a 60hz set.
