I selected this Samsung LCD TV over the other Samsung 40" TVs because of it has the highest resolution, 1080p, the contrast ratio of 30,000 which gives the best, crisp colors and the refresh rate of 5 ms to show uninterrupted motion. I was tempted by the LN40A650 which has a 4 ms refresh rate but only a 20,000 contrast ratio. I looked at both in a local TV store and decided on the LN40A550. It was also a little less expensive.
Amazon's delivery and installation was outstanding. CAVA not only moved the Samsung into my family room, but installed it and helped me move the old CRT to my car for a trip to the recycling center. Truely a exceptional experience.

I am not a tv guru, however picture is excellent, and works seemslessly with a samsung dvd player. four stars because speakers are very poor. not everyone wants to hook up a full surrond sound system and reciever. this is for the basement and i didnt want to go crazy.Now i am forced to do something for sound, or else sit there with the volume turned up at least 35-40 %. come on samsung, put in a better quality speaker, and ill pay the extra $.

This is a great buy!!! We love the picture, we love the size, and we love the simplicity. The picture is SO clear with HD signals that you release how ugly some people on TV really are.
If you buy this, you will not be disappointed. And buying from Amazon was SO simple. The delivery was painless and professional. The price was great compared to the local big box retailers making this purchase even better in our minds.
We are using this Philips MANT-410 Amplified Indoor Antenna to get the great picture.

I have had my tv for about 7 weeks now and thought is was time to give some input that should be helpful for anyone looking to buy. I am very happy with it and would highly recomend it. Simply, it is the best price vs quality on the market. I use it for Fios HD, PS3 gaming and blu-rays.
First, I bought it online from Amazon when it was at its lowest price (much cheaper than BB or CC with sales or coupons). It was delivered within 5 minutes of when CEVA told me they would be there. The driver brought it in, we opened it up and set it up. Looked good, then signed for it and he was off. CEVA is supposed to help set it up (Amazon white glove service). Remember, never sign for anything until after you see it!!
After about a week I noticed (on solid color scenes) that the screen was ununiform. One area from top to bottom about 3 inches wide was much lighter that the rest of the screen. I had Samsung service come out and they told me "I have never seen anything like this before." Samsung

As another reviewer mentioned (and I didn't take it to heart), if you looking to remove the stand from this TV so that you can wall mount...well, the Samsung technicians must be a group of sadists. It took three of us over an hour to remove the four screws. If you need to remove, make certain you first have a phillips screwdriver with A MAGNETIC HEAD or else you'll be swearing like a longshoreman!

After researching several other brands, we decided to go in for a 40" Samsung LCD. It had superior picture quality over others and was at a much better price point ($$/inch) than Sony Bravia, which was the only other TV that came close in terms of quality.

I bought it on 4/30 and Amazon said it will be delivered on 5/9. Actually on the 2nd day it is already in the stock in Dallas ( I live in Dallas). 10 days passed and no delivered made yet! I called the service guy and CEVA several times and they still can not figure out when can I get my TV. So I tell Amazon I want to cancel the order. This kind of delivery makes me upset. Guess what? They said they need to charge me $109 to return the TV and refund! I never receive the TV and I need to pay for $109 to return the TV to cancel this order. I've lost my 1300 for 10 days and they want me to pay 109 for they to have had my money for 10 day. That's an amazing good job Amazon provides!

One of my biggest purchases with Amazon and it went as smooth as possible. The picture on this TV is amazing. FiOS HD can be almost too much pretty on one screen with this TV, it's a bit overwhelming at first. Standard def channels are of course a less clear but better than expected. The only issue I have with this TV is the length of time to power on and off. You also have to point the remote just right sometimes or the function won't register. Small issue though, hardly worth docking points off this unit.
The menu is wonderful and gives complete control over settings. Each input saves your settings too! The AVS Forums have a great thread concerning settings for each input that should be checked out and tested. A little tweaking got the black levels and skin tone just right.
I haven't tested the VGA input, but my Macbook Pro connected with a DVI-HDMI cable is amazing! My FiOS is connected via HDMI and as I mentioned, quite beautiful. I also have a Wii hooked up via component.

Ordered this TV from amazon on 4/30 and came to my apartment on 5/5...not a bad turn-around time. The TV was actually ready for delivery on 5/2 but I was stuck at work.
Easy set-up, using HDMI to Time Warner cable.
I'm a sports fanatic and there's absolutely nothing better than HD sports on this set. The colors are so detailed, bright...flawless picture. Baseball looks great but I must admit, Basketball in HD is breath-taking.
Comes with 3 HDMI ports so I will eventually buy a PS3 for the blu-ray experience.
The casing itself is glossy black and comes with a neat blue light at the bottom of the Samsung.
Also priced $400-500 cheaper than any big retail store, this is a deal. My only gripe was the delivery service Amazon used. I first checked all the HDTVs at a local Best Buy store and I will admit they all looked nice to me. My decision to buy this TV from Amazon.com was influenced by these factors: Samsung brand, 2008 model, great price, no tax, and free white glove shipping.
I have connected my TV to Comcast HD set-top box using HDMI cables. The picture quality on HD channels is stunning and very good on non-HD channels too. Initially I had some apprehensions that perhaps 40" wasn't big enough, but after watching all those vivid, sharp images of people and things up close it doesn't feel small at all! Earlier I had used "component" cables for video connection but HDMI is clearly better. DVDs also look nice. For audio I have a premium audio home theater system (Bose) so I have turned the TV volume to OFF.
My only complaint against this TV is with the extreme difficulty I had in taking off the stand that came with it. The screws at the back somehow got "stuck" and wouldn't come off readily. Samsung customer

What a great tv. It has all the specs you'd want and as of my purchase date, Amazon offered the best deal on the net when considering base price, free white glove delivery, and no tax. The delivery was surprisingly smooth. Shipping firm called to schedule an appt. called when they were 20 minutes out, and arrived exactly as promised.
A very neat feature is the embedded QAM tuner. I was able to plug the coax directly into my tv, no boxes or antennas, and get everything I wanted. The TV takes the role of cable box and displays program/channel info. I suppose this depends on your provider though.
Only slight negative is the wiselink interface - its not very friendly if your intent is to connect your IPOD for photos/music/slideshows.

Very pleased with this TV so far. Setup was easy, plenty of inputs for my needs. No issue at all with the HDMI cables I got from Amazon for about $11. Picture is amazing with no issues with glare. HD pictures are tremendous off my Fios feed, plenty to choose from. Analog pictures are fine, varies from channel to channel-(supposed not really a strength of the Samsung's anyway). TV sounds really good all by itself, haven't hooked it up to the new home theater setup just yet-(waiting to run new wires). All in all a very nice TV worth waiting for. I haven't changed any of the factory settings, I played with the alternate picture settings, but the default settings were fine. I bought it from a box store because they matched the price and it was easy to get home and setup by myself.

In my shopping for a TV of course I had to swing by the local Best Buy and asked some questions. Not working on commission they generally just answer your questions without pushing you into the bigger or better... They had only good things to say about Samsung and all of their TV's.

This TV is incredibly clear with everything and fun to play with. I hooked up my wife's laptop just for fun, because it has a video in, and that picture was amazing. I finally got an HD-DVR cable box and it the picture is so incredibly clear.
The sound is even better than the picture quality. I found with many TV's now they will put great effort in the screen, but forget about the speakers... Not with Samsung. These speakers sing incredibly and greatly enhance the picture you are watching.
Everything is very easy to set up, and the control is very comfortable. The options are every user friendly. The only bad thing is that I have not figured out how to get the picture-in-picture to
