This DVD player is a piece of junk. I found it clipped the beginning of tracks on CDs. Its construction was also extremely flimsy. I brought it back in the first week.

When powering up, it takes 30+ seconds before it will read a disk... even if it's already in the player... and in the name of saving power, it ALWAYS shuts itself down.

Read the other reviews here and stay away from this lemon. I replaced it with the Sony unit and have been much happier.

Bought this player less than a year ago and, while it plays OK, to get the tray to retract, I have to turn the unit off (which causes the tray to retract), then turn in back on again. The tray comes out OK, just won't go back in. It only cost ~$60 but I expected a Toshiba product to be of better quality.

I was first dazzled seeing my old dvds playing on my 32" panasonic 720p lcd monitor. And then I noticed the upconverting was terrible. There was posterization, image banding or solarization on all my disks. I think it's also called false image contouring. It's hard to describe, but as you go from one shade of color to the next, it should be smooth, but posterization will show one shade of color and then a next shade lighter or darker in it's own separate band and so on so it looks like steps across a scene or subject. It was not on every frame but as I noticed it, it became way noticeable. All HD material otherwise looked amazing on my monitor so it's indeed the player itself. I fiddled with every control and tried different HDMI cables and inputs to no avail. I bit the bullet and got a blu-ray Sony BDP-S360 at the recommendation of Best Buy. Voila!!! No more posterization. Apparently the engine to upconvert works way better on a blu-ray player. I can say I liked the fact that the remote

if you cant playback what it says it does than your doing something wrong. i bought this player over a year ago and have not had any problems with it. the picture quality doesnt just depend on the player, it also depends on your tv and well i have 2 different types of tv's and it looks good on one and great on the other. i have thrown all dvd and cd playback options at it to see if it would play and it does play all of them.it plays the divx or "avi" files when made as data discs. it plays dvd-/+R/DL/RW, jpeg, IT PLAYS IT ALL...JMR

This unit has component color stream output and it will not even play on my toshiba color stream component TV. The composite out put will play DVDs, but picture quality is poor. Save your money. I replaced it with a SAMSUNG and the component plays beautifully and picture is great.

I bought this DVD player to replace a sony I had, which did not have HDMI. I bought this one because it also played Divx.

The HDMI is terrrible on this and it would not pass-through on my receiver. Also, the Divx playability is not upgradeable. It only plays older Divx versions.

The funtionality of the player is pitiful. The control is laggy and there is no playback memory. It will not remember where you left off viewing.

DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS PLAYER! PERIOD!

This is a not worth the money, it lasted a month and a half, just beyond the time frame i had to return it. It started freezing up about halfway through the movie. Went and bought a laser cleaner, but that didnt work. So I'm out of the money and dvd player. Will never buy Toshoba products again!!!!

This DVD player had less than 20 hours of playback time in the almost 6 months I owned it. One day, it just stopped working. Every disc suddenly was a "bad disc". I tried a system reset (unplugging the unit for a day) and it still did not solve my issues. I called Toshiba and their offer was to exchange it for another $50. What a deal! Throwing good money after bad. Do not buy this Toshiba player.

I'm really not sure why this product has gotten such horrid reviews - my mother bought one during my first year of college for the house when she replaced our old TV with a flatscreen HD, and ever since then we've watched the entirety of The West Wing nearly three times through over the course of a year-and-a-half - so it has by no means seen light use. Picture quality on the up-convert is easily good enough to be of use in a main entertainment system so long as one isn't expecting the level of detail of BlueRay - upconverting a DVD still has to work with the original image.

The unit is very simple to set up - place it somewhere, plug it into the wall, attach the AV cables or an HDMI cable (not included, sadly), and put in a disc. Takes 2 minutes tops if you read all the instructions, 30 seconds if you don't. As would be expected, it'll play both DVDs and CDs (although the menu system for the CDs leaves something to be desired - it's an eyesore of boring blue menus with wonky navigation

I bought this player as an entree into the HD world, not expecting champagne quality knowing I spent beer money, but some functionality would have been nice. I hooked up this player to my new HD TV with HDMI cable.

It worked for a couple weeks, then began to get picky about which DVDs it would play. No rhyme or reason - pre-recorded, new, used, all region 1, but no other commonalities. Soon after Best Buy's 30 day return period ended (coincidence?) it stopped playing 99% of DVDs, and then 100%. The message would be the same every time "No Valid Disc" or "Bad Disc".

Customer service was awful. Voice prompt system was labyrinthine at best and not a human to be found. Email got me an acknowledgement email and nothing else for two weeks. In the interim, I found out my Toshiba SD-P91SKN portable DVD had the exact same problem, every disc was 'bad' or 'no valid'. Both units are just outside the one year warranty window, of course. The customer service rep offered to sell me

I bought this product so I could use it in college. You know boring night when you have no homework and nothing to do you grab a movie and watch it in your room. I was looking for a DVD that was at a reasonable price and was easy to use (not too complicated) and had a good display (not necessarily high definition) I bought it thinking toshiba is an OK brand , it should work for the use I will be giving it. During the time I was in college the product worked perfectly and the size was great. Living in a small room I couldn't have big things that took up most of the space. The image definition was great specially considering the TV I had in college was flat screen but for me an unknown brand. Now When i finished my semester and moved back home (international student) I took my dvd with me and used it at home. Here we have better TV's so the quality was even better and it was great for my parents because it was easy to use for them (open, place DVD close play and pause) The control have big

Have seen other reviews that are mostly all poor.I have had this player for a year now and it is just now starting to skip and freeze periodically.
I have been thinking of upgrading to blu-ray but dvds are much ceaper, most importantly this player upconverts to a quality better than most of comcast's HD channels. I dont believe the extra 10-20 bucks for blu-ray is worth it compared to this units picture quality, namely on most new releases.

My product died after 60 days (everything was "Bad Disc"). I called the tech support who said I had to take it in for servicing. I did that and was told that I had to send it in for servicing. After all the run around, it was past my 90 days and I was completely out of luck. At least they were kind enough to offer a replacement... but at a cost more than the price I paid originally! Gee thanks!

I am so angry about this piece of garbage DVD player! I bought it a little over two months ago, and it has stopped working. Well, it still works, but there is no picture at all. Just a lovely blue screen. I mean, listening to movies is fun too, but I like looking at pictures so that I can, you know, understand what is happening. I am not even going to bother with returning this to Toshiba, because I do not want another one of these DVD players. What a piece of junk.

Died after four months of -extremely- limited usage. Froze up in the middle of a DVD and now will no longer read discs. As you can see from this and the many other reviews -- this is a lemon model. Avoid at all costs. Shame on Toshiba for putting out such a piece of junk, and then adding insult to injury by magnanimously offering to fix a $60 retail DVD player for $50...

Within 3 months, the DVD drawer would no longer close without a nudge; within 4 months the drawer wouldn't open. When coaxed open, it could no longer read the discs. Toshiba's warranty is only for 90 days, but they offer an "exchange" program within the 1st year---$50 replacement for a DVD player that an be purchased new for $60. Not a good value; avoid it.

Had this unit for less than 1 year and it died. No signal output. Nothing. Takes the disc in and spits it out. Heck, I could put the DVD's in a toast that it'd do that much.

We bought this product after our other Toshiba DVD player of many years broke down. We figured you can't go wrong with Toshiba. We should have known better; obviously, if you are not going to pay a higher price for something, you will almost always get what you payed for.... This product worked fine for about 4 months, and then all of a sudden, we'd be watching a good movie and either the picture would break up into hundreds of pieces, or the movie would just stop completely, and we could not advance to the the next scene or go back to the beginning. Other times, before we could even watch the film, it stated: " Bad Disc", even when we used brand new DVD'S! What a piece of junk.

Bought DVD player in Sept. 2008. Professionally installed to LCD TV. Only watched a DVD about once a month. In Feb. 2009, 6 months after the purchase, the DVD player reads "bad" and won't play DVDs. I called Toshiba Customer Service at 1-800-631-3811. I was told I could send the unit back at my expense along with a $50 check and Toshiba would replace the unit. Are you kidding me!! Don't waste your money.

I went through this with 4 different sony dvd players and vowed to never buy a sony again. I have a cheap 30 DVD player that still works but now this Toshiba is doing the same as the Sony's. Bad disk no way to repair except for sending in and they will send you a unit back. Pure junk just won't ever see my money again. To bad liked the unit but no way I can support something that only last 5 months!

Bought this DVD player as a temporary unit before diving it to get HDTV player, waiting for the design to mature before buying.
Plus it was Regza compatible and I bought it with Toshiba 52" HDTV.
Turns out this is a great DVD, upconverts standard DVDs, plays well, works with the TV's remote and even my audio systems Pioneer remote.
For the price its unbelievable, very happy with it.

This dvd player is a little annoying to setup but once you have it is very nice for the price.

Pro cheap, many outputs
cons annoying initial setup minor scaling issues.
This dvd player is defaulted to HDMI so if you use s-video or RGB you have to start with composite and change default output in the settings. also if you have a widescreen you again have to change this in settings. Other than this I have so far enjoyed this versatile player and would even recommend given its cheap price and many features.

I owned Toshiba products before, but this one quite after two months. Either the DVD player or the Surround Sound is making the voice miss with the lips on all DVD's, but the lips match the voice when I watch TV? Go figure. Plus, the DVD's skip too! I will return this for a better DVD player.

The Toshiba SD-6100 has just as many problems as its brother the SD-4100 and last just as long. The player quits playing DVD's in 4-5 months. It just says 'loading' and never loads. Doesn't matter if its a store bought or home made DVD it doesn't play. DO NOT BUY!!! No wonder it was cheap!

i recieved this model as a replacement of the previous model. i had read of these "bad disk" problems after buying the last one. they said they would replace it for free, so i was hoping the "new" model had this problem fixed, NOPE. it did last a bit longer but still had the same fate. it would hesitate or skip once in awhile, but recently it said bad disk and i 4 disks, nothing. the madness ends now, i will try to recycle it and buy a different brand. my first DVD player was a 2disk toshiba, that was a wonderful, excellent picture, remote, ZOOM done right, had book mark/memory, quite.... never should have gotten rid of it but the new ones CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. so sad, they were among the best, and they have known of this problem for a long time. this company will have NO credibility left if they dont fix this now.

I bought this product in November 2008. In January 2009 it stopped taking discs claiming that all were "bad." I called Toshiba and they had me send the player back at my own cost. The new player I received just a couple days ago won't even play one disc - all are "bad." I'm planning to call the company tomorrow to see what to do next, but most likely will take the hit and buy another.

I bought this DVD player brand new in August 2008 and it stopped working in January 2009. It constantly says "loading" and doesn't recognize the disc. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting techniques and then I contacted Toshiba. Toshiba said they only replace the DVD player if you've had it 90 days or less and then they gave me a number to a repair shop so I can pay to get it fixed. No thanks...I will not be buying anything from Toshiba again.

I bought this model (SD-6100KU) because it has an S-video port, so I can use a projector with it.

The first one I bought was dead out of the box, the second one worked for 2 months before it stopped working, with a "bad disk" error.

After 4 customer support calls and about a dozen emails, the Toshiba support representative offered to replace it for me for $50. Needless to say, it's $52.99 with free shipping on here now.

Hands-down the crappiest device and worst customer support service I've ever had to deal with. Yes, the customer support people are very nice and they are in N America, but were not willing to help at all. My advice: don't buy this piece of junk. I went for an LG with same features, and it works fine.

I was initially very happy with this unit from when I bought it summer 2008 until now (about 7 months). Recently started to freeze up at some point during every movie. I started reading the reviews and realized I had made a bad choice. I'll be replacing it with the Sony DV-PNS700H/B as soon as I get back home.

This is a piece of junk. Against my better judgement, i already had a toshiba that had failed, I bought the sd-6100 on the advise of my father who said that Toshiba made one of the better DVD players. The first weekend I had it I watched 2 movies no problem. Since then I get an error message saying "bad disc" with every dvd. I finally called Toshiba, after being told to call 2 different numbers and being hung up on by a rep cause I wanted to talk to a supervisor, I was told they couldn't help me due to the fact that it was out of the 90 day warrenty by 7 days. I will never buy another Toshiba again.

I bought this model and was pleased for the first two months - it was easy to set up and worked well. Then it suddenly stopped working altogether - no warning just "bad disc" readings on any and all DVD's. No... bad DVD player. I have had much cheaper models last for much longer. I shelled out for a multi-disc JVC DVD player back in 2004 and it still works great. This low quality was not what I was looking for... avoid, avoid, avoid.

We had a Toshiba dvd player for 8 years before it died. When it did, a little more than a year ago, we bought an RCA upconvert. That lasted til just after the warranty expired. We then bought an Insignia upconvert that didn't stay in our home for a week. We then exchanged it for this model. Having luck with the previous dvd player, we thought it would be a good buy. Just got home and hooked it up, and there is no picture any way I hook it up. I will be making a 3rd trip to BB in a weeks time, and I am not happy.

I bought this last weekend, took it out of the box and had a few problems getting it set up, but I eventually got it working. Put in a movie, watched it, had a good picture no issues yet. After the movie was finished I tried to eject it with the buttons on the player, none seemed to work. I checked the manual and did what it said to try to fix the problem and tried the buttons with success.

The next morning I hear a very high pitched noise, sounded like a cicada bug almost. I went toward the noise and noticed it was from the DVD player. I unplugged it and waited a half hour to plug it back in. The noise was not present any longer. (I have read similar issues with this noise from others on this product.)

I went to watch another movie a few days later and the buttons did not work at all. I could use the player with the remote only. I tried the fix that was in the manual again, it did not work this time. I have had this player for 9 days, today I will be taking it back and

This is my second Toshiba DVD purchase within the past 18 months and both are broken and Toshiba has done nothing for me. The first lasted 14 months and this model lasted 5 months. All it does now is says loading disk and finally gives me a bad disk error after 5 minutes or so. I contacted Toshiba to see if they would make an exception to the 90 day warrenty and even asked a supervisor and they told me to have a good day. Between the two units I have spent $340 and I have nothing to show for it. I WILL NEVER BUY TOSHIBA AGAIN.

Out of the box, it did not read the first dvd I put in. I put in a second, it worked, and then it did read the original non-read dvd. So ok, right?

But last night it froze after 30 minutes of use. After cleaning the dvd, I tried again with no luck. I tried five other dvds and none worked, although everyone of them played in my computer.

According to my receipt, I have another week to take this back so it's going this afternoon. I've used Phillips and Sony dvd players and gotten long life from them without issue. After my experience and reading that this is a common problem for their players, I certainly won't buy another Toshiba.

I got this brand because I had bought a 26" Toshiba lcd. I was happy with it exept 2 things: When it was turned off, it made a high pitched whiney sound. I thought maybe it was wiring, so I plugged it in with out the HDMI in another room away from the tv and it still did it. If the tv wasn't in my bedroom, I might not care as much, but I have sensitive ears and it drove me crazy!! The other thing that I didn't like was it didn't have a memory. (In the middle of your dvd, you can turn it off and turn it back on and it starts where you left off) I had read that in reviews earlier, but wasn't sure how much I would care. What was great about it was I could use my Toshiba tv remote for both. I took it back to exchange it and thought I might as well get one with memory. I got a Philips brand. I have to use 2 remotes (because the Philips wouldn't program with my Toshiba) but I don't have a whiney sound when I sleep and this one does have a memory. So, if you don't have sensitive ears (it may have

I've had a very bad experience with this Toshiba player. Besides a below average picture quality(compared with my old Pioner DV-563A), the drive belt which opens the drawer, broke after only two months of mild operation. Toshiba replaced that one and gave me another 30 days. After about 45 days the same belt broke in the second unit. And now Toshiba wants $50 to replace it with a new one. I don't think so. I will never purchase another Toshiba product.

I would not recommend this DVD player because of the fact that it is not compatible with most TVS with the HDMI input witch defeats the whole purpose of the HDMI option. I ended up returning it and went with the Phillips that works great and is a lot easier to use. As far as looks and options its definitely up there with the best but their is better options as far as HDMI up convert DVD players.

what's nice

- the picture quality is good
- not too expensive
- plays everything even vcd and wma files including the self made types
- super easy to use

things should be improve

- memory funtion , restart the disc everytime i turned it off
( but there's a pause button for that 'cept when i wanna go to sleep before finishing the movie )
- have to turn the tv on first , if i turn the dvd player on first my tv won't pick up the signal , weird ... cuz my other dvd player
works fine and doesn't really matter which turn on before which

anyways it's actually pretty good , should come with the hdmi cable though and one more thing , some of my selfmade dvd that were burned at low quality couldn't be play on any of my old dvd players but it works well with this one , sometime the sounds gets ahead ( only on defected selfburned one , but still play on this player! ) but can be fix by restarting the chapter

i won't recommend this

We bought this player in the store on the advice of a Best Buy rep to go with a newly-purchased HDTV. It stopped working around day 95, 5 days after the warranty period. Toshiba says the cost of mailing it to them plus the "after warranty period" fee equals the cost of a new one. I will not buy Toshiba again.

HDMI connection to my Toshiba Regza 47" in bedroom provides great picture but broken sound (sound cuts out for about 2 seconds every 10 - 15 minutes). HDMI connection to my Sony SXRD 60" in livingroom provides a good but not great picture when it wasn't pixellating and sometimes the sound wasn't matching the picture. This will teach me for straying from Sony. Hopefully the replacement SD-6100 will prove better.

I have owned three of these DVD players and every one failed within the first six to eight weeks. There appears to be a design flaw with the DVD drawer as it continuously fails to open (with no DVD inside). The Toshiba warranty is HORRIBLE - I bought the first unit in mid-June '08. When the DVD drawer failed on Aug 1st I bought a second unit from Best Buy and paid to return the first unit to Toshiba. I received a replacement in mid-Aug '08. When the replacement failed in mid-Oct '08, (after less than 2 months) I was told IT only had a 30 day warranty and it would cost another $50 (plus the cost of shipping) for ANOTHER replacement. Luckily on the second unit I bought in August, I had the foresight to get the Best Buy extended warranty so when the DVD drawer failed in mid Sept '08, I was able to return it to Best Buy and purchase a SONY.

I bought this DVD player for the flat screen in my office and I really liked this DVD player, too, that is UNTIL IT STOPPED WORKING LESS THAN ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE!!!
Reading some of the other reviews, I guess it common. That being the case youre better off paying a few bucks more for a Sony or Samsung. This Toshiba, worthless.

This dvd player took 2 seconds to setup. That's where the positives end. I was able to play exactly 1 dvd on this machine before it crapped out on me. Every disc I put in now takes forever to load before eventually saying "Bad Disc". The dvd's are fine, they play in out other dvd player with no problem. No more Toshiba dvd players for me!

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and hooked it up to my 42" 720p Panasonic plasma via an HDMI cable. The picture is a big improvement over the 3-year-old DVD player it replaced. I don't use the remote that came with it since I had no troube getting the multi-function remote that came with my cable box to recognize the unit and hanlde all of the basic functions.

I also have no problem playing home-made DVDs (both DVD-R and DVD+R) that I authored using either Pinnacle Studio or Premier Elements.

This was the 3rd DVD Player I went through in 3 weeks, the other 2 in a row, the Samsung 1080p, stay away from that one. I wasn't impressed with the picture quality it wasn't as good as the Samsung 1080p. When you play back a CD in random play it takes a blip off the track in order before it jumps to a random track. It's pretty annoying when you're playing your music moderately loud or trying to relax and there's a blip sound at the end of each song. I called Toshiba and they told me to take it back and exchange it, which I did, but I din't get another Toshiba, I went to a Sony, that's another story. I'm on to my 4th DVD player. What ever happened to quality!!!

Anyone looking for a DVD player, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!
I had this product for four months until it stopped playing DVD's. After following all the steps on the website,
I tried calling the actual helpline. I was told there was nothing they could do other than offer me an exchange that would cost me half the price of the original one that I purchased. Went back to Sony, never should have left.

I bought this DVD player thinking it would be great. It worked wonderfully and had a beautiful picture. Now after a year, every DVD either skips or completely stops while playng even brand new ones. Or the DVD player blinks loading, but the movie never starts. This happens with every movie also. Bottom line dont buy this DVD player if you are looking for something that will last.

The Toshiba SD-6100 turned my perceptions of up-conversion upside down. My first experience with an upconverting DVD player was poor - the early generation HDMI Denon I bought on clearance gave no quality improvement over my old JVC in component 480p. But on this unit picture quality at 1080i and 1080p is fantastic. The player delivers rich colors due to the high 14-Bit video D/A conversion. It also does an amazing job de-blocking the DVD video MPEG artifacts and truly "up-converting" the lower resolution quality of DVD movies to a much better quality. This player made me a believer. I actually enjoy watching DVDs again on my 37" LCD widescreen TV. A quick note for widescreen TV users - as soon as you get the DVD player online be sure to go into the setup and change the screen ratio setting from 4:3 to 16:9, otherwise your DVD videos may not stretch correctly to fit your screen. If the small remote leaves you wanting pick up a universal remote such as the Sony RM-VL600.

I have used a few of these DVD players in different rooms and with several types of TVs. While I'm impressed with the picture quality, I've had reliability issues with two of the five players. Also, the setup menu allows you to select a resolution format which is incompatible with your TV, which creates a blank screen. Unlike every other player I've ever seen, it doesn't automatically revert back to the factory settings, and you have to use the remote to go through a series of menu choices without the benefit of an on-screen display. While I'm impressed with the picture, with so many quality DVD players at this price point it's hard to get excited about a unit that comes with several potential hassles.

Bought the dvd player at the store and had it for about two weeks. The DVD's started artifacting/blurring while playing any DVD and then would skip around till it eventually gave up. Called Toshiba up and was informed to do an exchange at my cost of sending.

First, it is very light and small in size, so you don't really need a lot of space for it. Mine sits in front of my 42 inch lcd tv. It does not have a clock but unless it's a dvd burner, you don't really need one. Second, it does not play homemade dvds, I get the message"bad disk" while I have no problem playing them on two of my other dvd players (Panasonic). I gave my daughter a Toshiba dvd player and she too, has the same problem so it must be the Toshiba technology. But the price was right for a HD player, about $52 so I'm not complaining. I do like Toshiba products so I tend to stick with the brand.

For the money you can't go wrong with this DVD player. I'd never heard of it until my nephew told me that he had purchased one and it was great.
He wasn't wrong. Aside from owning a HD or Blue Ray disc player, this is ideal. All of my DVDs look like HD. It can't play HD or Blur Ray, but I'm not ready to spend that kind of money yet....even on rentals. Next time maybe.............for now, I'm a happy camper with this great Toshiba.

For my purposes -- I don't need or want anything fancy -- this is a good player. But I have to wonder if they couldn't have gotten quality mechanics, sound and image without all the extra functions, and save a couple bucks.
We watch a fair number of Netflix movies on DVD, but all I usually ever need is On/Off, Play, Pause and Eject. Once in a great while I might use Fast Forward or Reverse.
This remote has 47 buttons, most of which I'll never use, and some of which I don't understand even after reading the instructions.

Stll and all, the buttons I do use seem to work as expected, so I'm OK with the unit.

I bought this to replace another Toshiba DVD player that I've had for close to three years. I currently this new one connected to a 32-inch LCD television through the HDMI, and will eventually upgrade that to a 47-inch, 1080p TV. Even without the upconverting, the HDMI connection gives much better colors and a sharper image than component cables. With Upconverting turned on, the picture approaches the kind of clarity you'd see with Blu-Ray, but it doesn't quite get there (it's not intended to).
Overall, this is a good upgrade if you've still got a ton of DVDs, a TV with an HDMI input (upconverting won't work without it), and you aren't ready for Blu-Ray.

Good points:
It operates well, it detects DVDs quickly , it turns on quickly. Five seconds from the time you turn it on till the time its ready to play. Five seconds to detect a disk. The picture quality is fine, typical good DVD quality. It has played everything I have thrown at it and it detects everything within that five second range. Regular DVD, burned DVD, .MPG, .AVI, .JPG, .MP3. The mpg, avi, jpg,mp3 can be burned onto a CD and it still plays great.

So So points:
It has no USB. Other brand units of similar price range have USB. It has no real front display other than the words Open, Load. The lack of these things do not bother me, but if you want them find another unit.

Bad points:
Design of the remote control is haphazard, although I think most remotes are poorly designed. This remote is a particularly poor design. The display function where it shows the time frame of the movie, i.e. (hours/minutes elapsed - hours/minutes total) is not a small timer

I bought this to hold me over until Blu-ray players drop in price. Standard DVD's look sharp on my Panasonic Plasma. Make sure you use the HDMI output to use the up-convert feature.

I'm impressed with the picture quality coming out of the 6100. I only expected it to be slightly better than regular dvd but sometimes watching a movie I can almost forget that it's not a Blue-ray. I give it a 9/10 for picture quality and I am pleasantly surprised.

As for the "Regza-Link" I don't know. You are supposed to be able to control the DVD player with the TV remote if you have a Toshiba Regza television which I do but I still had to program the code for the DVD player in to the TV remote, which I would have had to do anyway. It turns the TV off when you turn off the DVD like a blue-ray but doesn't turn on the tv when powered on.

These things aren't as important to me as the picture quality and for that I give it a 9. Only way it could be better is if it were a Blue-ray.
I'm running the 6100 with an HDMI cable to a Toshiba 47" Regza.

Purchased this SD-6100 at BB ($69.99) for our bedroom setup which already included a Toshiba 37" LCD Reza. I thought it would be nice to have same-branded components to utilize one remote, right? NOT!
The upconvert picture was great. However, I ended up returning this unit because it made a constant beeping sound even when the unit was switched off (but still plugged in). When I went to bed at night, the beeping was loud enough to hear from about 9 feet away and it drove me nuts!
Also, even with both the TV and DVD player by Toshiba, I could not find the right remote code for the TV's remote to completely work with the DVD player. The disc eject button on the TV remote does not work, nor does the zoom or other buttons. The basic Play, Stop, FF and Reverse work, but very disappointing.
I ended up returning this unit and getting the Sony DVP-NS77H/B for $30 more and guess what? Great upconvert quality and no beeping last night. The TV remote gives me the same functionality as

I purchased this at the store and liked the slim design of the product. When I got it home and connected it to my HDTV, plugged it in to the outlet, and pushed the on button, the DVD player would not turn on. I am returning this defective DVD player to the store and getting a different DVD player.
