I bought this system in July of 2006 for personal use. The doctor's office I lived over had wi-fi and he let us use it but my husband's laptop was the only computer we had, so when he was gone I was S.O.L. I have used it daily since then and when we moved to a house I set up my own wireless network. The only problem I had was I have had to replace the hard drive already. It was not a virus, it just evaporated but I was still under warranty so Dell sent me a factory refurbished one and I spent a couple of hours on the phone with tech support setting it up (very friendly guy, walked me through step-by-step). I was admittedly not good at backing up my hard drive so I lost a lot of music and picture files. I am better about it since then. I am disappointed it does not come with Microsoft Office suite. It has Word, but for spreadsheets I have to use Microsoft Works, which is fine for my own files but I had to download an Excel reader to view files sent to me by others. I have not had any performance

I hate this laptop. The charger it comes with does not work and breaks every 3 months. I left it on over the weekend and it overheated so bad it fried or cooked my hard drive. All my pictures, songs, documents, emails, GONE for ever. The harddrive has to be sent to a lab for the data to be retrieved. that will cost me over $ 2,000.00 dollars. save yourseld the head aches. I will never buy a dell again for the rest of my life. The dell inspiron 5100 now will not charge the stupid design to plug the chatger in is broken. so now i have lost my data twice. also the monitor broke on the left side the screws fell out and then he cheap plastic case snapped. worst piece of electronics i have ever owned. please reconsider and do not buy this dell or any other dell.

This computer works GREAT!!! That is, it works great if you happen to using the computer outdoors in the winter. The computer has major problems with overheating. I have had the computer for three years now and I have had to send it back to Dell once when it was under warranty, now I am stuck with a piece of junk computer that slows W--A--Y D--O--W--N after it has been on for only a few minutes. It used to just have problems when I was playing graphics intensive games like Simcity 4, but not is has trouble with WORD and the internet. The problem is that every time I turn the computer on, the memory and processor get too hot, this causes them to slowly decrease in performance. Over time, I would guess that my computer will just give out and not start at all. I must say that I am looking forward to that day, because my wife says that she would like to get a new computer after one of ours fails. Believe it or not, her laptop is a 6 year old dell, which wieghs half as much, has a cooling
