I've had mine for just over 24 hours; suffice it to say...I love it. I got a little USB mouse for mine because I hate touchpads, and I've just been having a ball -- surfing and doing other little tasks.
I had tested this PC at a local Micro Center, and for a while I considered not getting it because of the keyboard being small and very hard to type on with 10 fingers without making errors. I even practiced for about 10 or 15 minutes in the store, and still kept making errors.
But I was hard-pressed to give up on the thing because I just loved its portability. So I went back the next day and started typing on it again, and strangely, I was improved. And I keep getting better and better on it (I'm typing this review on it with absolutely no problem).
I agree with other reviews that people shouldn't try to make it their main computer; (I myself have a desktop that is my main computer). Yet...you really can make this an acceptable substitute in lots of ways.

If you just need the basics... Do NOT be afraid to switch to linux and the ASUS Eee PC. This thing is the bomb for the money. It's perfect for beginners and seniors. My mother has never used a computer and had it figured out within an hour without touching the manual. Yes the screen is small but it's sharp. Plug this thing into a fullsize monitor and it's even more fun. I love it! This was the best money I EVER spent on a linux box. I have an 8G SD card on board and a Western Digital USB hard drive for backups... and it's the perfect solution. My old computer is on it's way to the garage... WOW! Look at all this desk space I now have!

I bought the ASUS EEE since it was the cheapest travel notebook in its class. 7" Screen is sufficiently large to work with. The notebook is very handy to carry and easily connects to the internet. I did have to spend some time to get used to Linux environment, but didn't have too much trouble.
Doesn't have touch screen, but its less than half the price of similar products.
Overall a good buy.

I am very pleased with the Asus Eee. It's compact, light-weight, and durable. It has a solid state hard drive so it runs completely silent and doesn't generate much heat. The custom Xandros Linux operating system which comes standard is very user-friendly however to personalize it and add programs requires some code tweaking. There are many helpful websites like eeeuser.com which provide helpful information.
The only drawback is the battery life for the "Surf" version could be better (it's about 2.5 hrs give or take). But considering how small the charger is, its very reasonable to carry around.
Besides this, the Eee will be everything you expect it to be and well worth the relatively small price.

I bought this for the kids to use and keep them off my laptop. The asus has appox 200 hours on it without a hitch. The youngest (8yrs) loves the tux racer and games. The oldest boy uses it for the internet and listening to music. It is a good buy for us.

I take my Eee with me just about everywhere. It seems like I find a new use for it every time I take it out. The Eee is incredibly small; it's smaller than your average hardcover book, which makes it small enough to carry around in a binder at school or in a purse for the ladies. It's surprisingly powerful for a machine its size, too. You won't be playing Crysis on it or anything, but it'll certainly be able to handle anything you'd want to do on a computer its size.
I only have a few minor complaints. The first is that when you boot up the system, there is no option to use a normal desktop. You have to either use the dumbed down interface with very few options and limited access to advanced functions or download a few addons. If you're unfamiliar with linux, that isn't as simple as it sounds. It involves some command-line work, but there are instructions readily available online (you won't find them in the manual).
If you don't like tech-speak or don't really care about the OS, you can

ASUS 2g-Lush Green, ASUS 4g-Pearl White, ASUS 4g-Black, and ASUS 8g-Pearl White
Actually, I liked the Asus so much, I purchased one for my neighbor who drives me to the doctor, to the grocery store and to the pet food store. I also purchased one for my daughter and one for another friend whose birthday isn't until July, and I am waiting for a gift I am giving myself from Amazon via DATA-VISION a pearl white 8g ASUS Eee. Each recipient of an Eee has been delighted with Unix and with the size of the computer. Amazing! Not long ago, we didn't buy computers because they took up entire rooms. Now, we have the ASUS. It fits in the palm of my hand. I wouldn't buy four of them for my daughter two friends and me if I weren't most favorably impressed. linda b

Cheaper than an iPhone and just as powerful.
Small enough to take with me everywhere, this is the perfect traveling laptop. I'm not going to edit video, but for web surfing, light document management, IM chatting, Skype, and web-based e-mail (Gmail) this thing is perfect.
The stock operating system is OK but simple. I read the forums and was able to upgrade to a more Windows-like version of Linux (KDE, I think). Worked great but didn't really add any functionality. Easy enough to wipe it clean and start over (F9 during start-up), which I did and I'm back to the simple OS. Super-easy for kids and adults to figure out.
It picks up wireless Internet connections quickly and easily.
One CON is that the web cam doesn't integrate with Pidgin (AIM-like instant messaging client). It will do video Skype, though.
Yes, the screen is small and the keyboard is small, but you know that already. Most web pages have ads on either the left or right, so there isn't really a lot of left-right scrolling

if you are thinking about getting a portable dvd player don't bother and get this instead! however if you know about the Eee PC and are thinking (like i did) that you are getting the lower end one so you can spend less money and upgrade it yourself for a quarter of the price, think again. the 2G surf is not upgradeable like the other models but i like it so much that i plan on buying a different model soon. i would recommend the 4G galaxy, it has enough internal space to do more and you can do some hack/mods to it. there are a ton of things to do with it, and best of all they are easily found on the internet with step-by-step instructions.

I bought this computer as a truly portable laptop. I already have three other computers, all of which are laptops made by apple. 1 macbook pro, 2 macbooks. The apple computers are too much computer for my day use when all I will be doing is checking email, some word processing and surfing. I really have never had to edit video etc in the field. This EEE PC is fantastic. First it weighs trully nothing and is extremly portable, even compared to my macs which weigh 5lbs, who would have thought the extra 3 lbs would be that big of a deal, but they are! The EEE links with my network at home, easily tranfers files back and forth, can open word and power point documents, has what I would call a plug and play ease of hooking up keyboards, mice, wireless presenters etc... I plan on purchasing eee for my family as our laptops die out, and will then go back to having a mac desktop at home and these eee as the portable laptops I carry arround. much more economical, i can but two eee for

Have finally bought my Asus Eee PC. And yes it's great!
Other than the webcam and memory (small on all models) There is no difference between the 2G and other models; Identical processors operating system, RAM & box.
And the 2G are much easier to find and less marked up. (This product is basically impossible to get in the UK - would recomend trying Amazon in the US as UK retailers have big waiting times)
>> Good Points
> Superb Build Quality, the best i have seen on any laptop. It looks like it's from apple. but even more robust. An extremely well designed product , roughly the size & weight of a book an can be picked up in one hand easily. It's very portable. Can't wait to take it down the beach and to cafes it's perfect for this.
The processor / RAM in the Eee PC is the same as in much more expensive UMPC 's (eg. Vye) most use the 900mhz intel mobile chip.
> Good office tools. was surprised by this but the Spreadsheet, Word & Presentation tools are very good. Would make quite

This computer has exceeded all my expectations. I put eeeXubuntu on it shortly after receiving it, and it even runs COMPIZ-FUSION!!! Compiz-fusion isn't just a novelty demo on it either, it's completely usable and I run it all the time. My kids love playing games or surfing the web on it (when I let them). Boot-up time is very fast with the flash "hard-drive" and suspend to disk works really well (and is lightning fast compared to my old P4 1.6 GHz laptop with a 5400RPM hard-drive).

I have been using my Palm tx as a second internet device for a couple of years- it is great, but always wished the screen was just a little bit bigger and often wondered why plam didn't make a slightly larger device- it is such a simple little thing- pops open quickly, etc. When I saw the asus eee, I knew that it was exactly what I wanted. Just big enough. My tx still is good for lounging and just reading, but the eee can do a bit more. I will not add xp to it- I have an xp desktop and tire of the constant slowing down over time. However, that does leave a few options out, such as using netflix watch now with the eee- would like to be able to hook this little thing up to my projector. But that is only a slight disappointment. (BTW, you CAN use it with a projector- just can't use it to watch Netflix or Amazon Unbox.)
All in all, this is a great little computer- fast, quiet and capable of pretty much anything you can do on a bigger/windows based machine. I upgraded it to the advanced

I must first apologize to Asus for my previous review - I had pretty thoroughly bashed the unit because of difficulties in getting the wireless working. I found I was entering the wrong key for the WPA, hence my trouble. I'm still not satisfied with Asus's tech support - but the fault was mine. Here's my re-review.
I purchased this unit for work for use in our production area - we run an intranet web site where we're putting all of our work instructions. Employees move from station to station to complete different jobs, and the ability to hand them a cheap web machine means they carry the work instructions with them (the convenience of paper), but always have the latest and greatest right there (Revision control for you ISO-9000 folks).
Now that I've corrected my thoroughly bone-headed mistake, I'll be putting this puppy through its paces over the next few weeks. So far, however, it's definitely up to the challenge.

For the last year or two I've been using two computers for mobile web access and note taking. One is an aging iBook that's starting to develop keyboard and battery problems, and is heavier than I'd like to carry in a backpack or camera bag. The other is my Nokia 770, which is cute, but slow and very limited when it comes to typing or writing notes. I thought about buying a Nokia 810, but the reviews I've read suggested the Eee would be better for my uses. I decided to risk a purchase.
So far, I'm pleased. The Eee boots fast, it's quiet, the screen is more than adequate, and it's very light and compact. True, the keyboard isn't great, but I found it reasonably easy to adjust to. Installing other apps isn't easy, and the 800MHz processor doesn't support graphic editing, but that's not what this machine is intended for; if you want to run the Gimp, get a faster machine. The same goes for running Windows. I thought about installing XP, but that's really stretching the capabilities of this

I just love this mini pc! It is small enough to tuck into my purse or backpack! I also love how it has fast connectivity, and there is no long wait to boot up. This is just exactly what I need for what I use! In addition, I love the price and availability of the product from Amazon.com. I can't even find these on the market anywhere where I live! As soon as I took it out of the box, it wasn't long to get it fired up and running! I love the pre-loaded applications and games in the system! I can't say enough about this little wonder. Thank you for making it available for me and the public.

I've had the Asus EEE PC for nearly two weeks now, and I am completely in love with it. It operates flawlessly--no problems, glitches, crashes, etc. I thank the stable Linux OS for that. What's truly revolutionary about this computer is that it is so lightweight and so solidly built that it is one mobile device that is truly, authentically MOBILE. Any other notebook or laptop I've had has still been bulky enough that I'd only take it with me if I positively HAD to. With the EEE PC, you can toss it into your briefcase or bag and totally forget it's there--until the moment arises when you need a computer and--voila--there it is. I can be "wired" all the time now.
All that said, this is not the best choice as your sole computer. It helps to have a desktop system or even a more feature-laden laptop (with a disc drive) and use the Asus as an ancillary "on the road" machine. You may notice, however, that you start to use the Asus more and more and your primary computer less and less. That's

I love this little laptop! It's so easy to use. My teenagers (18 and 16) love it too. I'm not a laptop expert and was skeptical, but I was able to use right out of the box and drove to our local Panera and checked out the wireless connection and it worked like a charm! It's really small, but that's what I like about it. I wanted mostly to surf the net and check e-mails and do my AVON orders and it has met my needs wonderfully!

This little PC is just amazing!! I had been watching this product since before the holiday season just to see if the price would drop or if new models would be release either before/after CES. My original hesitation about the purchase was the keyboard. I can honestly say that the first few hours were really really bad. It was quite frustrating to learn where the keys are on a small keyboard. However, after just setting up the PC and doing some surfing I found myself flying on the keyboard.
The shipping OS, a modified version of Xandros, was actually quite good. Anything that you could want is on there and adding additional programs was really easy. I kept it for about a day and played with the easy and advanced versions before making the move to a custom installation of Ubuntu.
Overall the hardware is really amazing. It has more than enough power to run all of the cool desktop effects that come packaged in Compiz-fusion. As soon as receiving the PC, I upgraded the memory

This is exactly what I was looking for. More than a PDA but 1/4th the size of most laptops. Great for the web and editing documents on the road. The Linux OS is very easy to use and comes with lots of software. Unless you know Linux well it is hard to add additional software. I loaded XP with n lite (instructions on EEE PC user group) and it works great. I loaded all the software that I need while traveling and I have a portable USB HD if I need more space when I am home. If you don't care about size and weight then get a budget, full size laptop. If you have carried a regular laptop for a few hours, and you know what a pain it is then you will like the EEE PC. You give up some capability but you get a very portable laptop that isn't very expensive.

A nice implementation of what a sub-notebook computer ought to be.
The keyboard takes some getting used to, as it is small, but that is a minor issue which will take care of itself over a bit of time.
The great thing about it is how easy it is to configure for your home network, and for your printer. I'm going to use mine for email, and connectivity on the road. The screen is really easy to read, and the Linux Apps supplied are more than equal to general business tasks. Did I mention it weighs nothing at all. A good machine for portable computer, I wouldn't recommend it as a primary machine.

Pros: Small, portable, fast boot-up, comes with great programs
Cons: Keys are smaller than normal
This is a great computer. It is small and portable. I was skeptical at first because I thought that the screen would be too small to read. I was wrong. Sure it is smaller but still can be read easily at arms length away (just as if you were typing on a regular laptop) I am actually writing this review on it right now. The keyboard does take some getting used too. The keys are smaller but I am sure after a few weeks, everything will be ok. I am a student and this is great to take to class because it boots up fast and is very light weight and portable. It is half the size of a manila file folder.
This computer is great for internet usage and writing papers. It is not a computer for playing a bunch of games or if you need to install major programs.
Openoffice program is great for writing papers. You can also save as a .doc file so it will not affect the file if you need to transfer

After a little over 24 hours of using this item, I have to say this little gadget is much more than just a fun must-have. Set-up was quick and easy. It connected instantly to our corporate network without any input by me. With our Windows-based units, it normally takes about 10-15 minutes to get everything up and running. At home, I had it connected to my home network in about 10 minutes, most of that time was spent getting my other computer configured.
I do have a few complaints though and they are minor. One, it seems to be a little picky about how it connects to the wireless network. I had to shut it down and restart it several times before it would connect. After it connected once though, it had no problems. Two, the windows (tabs) at times are not visible completely - I maximized a window a couple of times and could not scroll to all of the edges and actually had to close out the window (tab). Setting up my mail was a chore because all of the options at the bottom were
