We'd been through many of the cheaper motorolas and they all failed quickly. These units are fairly tough and great for our 23-acre farm, we've got about 10 of them. We don't really need long distance and in our hilly area the signal fades if you drive more than half a mile away. Most annoying quality is how they slide into the charging base, must be done carefully or else the contacts don't line up. Regarding the person who complained about interference, you can program other frequencies and these do require an FCC license, so in theory the FCC should be giving you distinct frequencies to use. If you splurge for the overpriced cable you can program these using a PC, which is nice.
