This recorder is great for standard copying of your VHS tapes to DVD and your MiniDv tapes to DVD. However, for editing VHS clips to DVD, the VCR portion is lacking in control of the dubbing to the DVD. I find it easier to do a better job of taping and editing (commercials) with my older Sony VCR, than with the limited controls on the built in VCR of this product. Also, I was hoping to use this as my main VCR/DVD player in the living room, but the VCR doesn’t seem to have the “frame by frame” advancement feature found on my old Sony VCR, so I’m still using my old Sony VCR for viewing and dubbing to DVD. All in all, it should work great for the average consumer, but I just like to make my tv shows to DVD seamless and commercial free.
