On my quest to find a FM Transmitter, I bought a different itrip from Griffin, but it did not charge my ipod nano 4th Gen. So I called Grifin and they told me that in order to charge my ipod nano 4th Gen that it needs to be an itrip with Smart Scan technology. So i returned it and bought this one, and i'm very happy with it. 1. This unit charges our ipod nano 4th Gen no problem. The ring of light on the cigarette lighter plug lights up red when initially connected denoting power to FM transmitter, then amber once the ipod is connected (charging), and then it turns green when the ipod is fully charged. 2. I have a sealed radio in my car so therefore don't have an audio input unfortunatley (2005 Volvo s40 2.4i) and so FM Transmitters are a way of life for me. Your not going to get the perfect sound quality from these like you would with a direct input, so check to see if you got an aux input in your car first and then just buy a charger and a double male head phone wire. I have

I was hesitant about which adapter to get for my ipod. I Bought the griffin itrip a month ago and could not be happier. My car, however, is capable of going to radio stations of 87.9 and lower. If your car is capable of this, then I suggest you put the griffin itrip on international mode (push function in the middle then hold mode for 10 secs or so, pick JP from menu). After putting the ipod on international mode it worked great with little to no static. Without international mode it worked well most of the time, but had occasional static, which of course means you have to spend some time searching for a better station. Overall if your radio can get to 87.9 this is a great product that will have little to no radio disturbance.

I really like this Griffin FM transmitter for my ipod. What is really nice about it is if you are losing the FM station you are on, the next one available has already been scanned and just waiting for you to switch, you don't have to wait for another scan. The stations seem to lock in good on this transmitter without bleed through until they are no longer where you can use them. The price was great. I had purchased a Belkin, first and it had a lot of bleed over and lost the FM channels quickly. It cost twice as much as the Griffin. I returned the Belkin, and would recommend the Griffin itrip auto transmitter if you are looking for a really great product.

I was very uneasy about buying another adapter to use my Ipod in my car. I purchased similar ones that was no good. This one works very well. I even talked my co-worker into buying one. You can't beat the price and believe me I shopped everywhere for the same model and Overstock had it for much cheaper. Shipping was fast and cheap, received it in two days. Plenty of channels to choose from, good sound and quality. Buy It.

For the past few years I haven't had any luck with FM Transmitters for the iPod, but this one works great. Very easy to find a station and audio comes through loud and clear with no interference (even in the SF Metro area where it seems the FM dial is full). It's nice to be able to llsten to my podcasts and audiobooks again.

I recently purchased an IPOD and I am technologically challenged, but this was very easy to use and had great reception. I really liked the fact that you can program 3 stations. Great buy, I would highly recommend it.

Got this to play my ipod touch in the car. It works great in rural/country areas but gets some interference with other FM channels in the city. For the price I am ok with it for now until I can get a new car that has the adapter built in.

I really like that it automatically found unused frequencies and that it allows you to 'preset' the frequency that you want to use. The clarity of the signal is acceptable, but not as clear as directly from the iPod. I have owned another gadget which claimed to do the same, but it never worked. I am seriously considering buying a second one for my wife.

Well for something that transmits over the FM waves it is ok but not great. Once in a city where there was tons of interferance it didn't even work. When it did break up on the highway you could push the button for it find the best channel but then you had to adjust the radio and well what a distraction. So for all you non multi taskers this is REALLY hard to work with. Needless to say, I returned it

This product is easy to use, it's compact and that's what I like, but as far as audio portion - it's okay, not so clear. Some parts of the city I drive in, the thing catches a different station and you're hearing your music and someone else's music at the same time. You can change the transmitter to a different channel but it can get annoying, especially when you're the one driving and having to multi-task on the road - it's dangerous too. Since I bought it, I probably only used it about less than 5 times. The audio quality could be better.

Griffin 4045-TRPAUTOS iTrip Auto FM Transmitter with SmartScan for iPod
Even though it does not say it will work with ipod touch 2g... i bought it and it work great.... charges my ipod and I can listen to music :D, and the feature of finding the clearest stations is great... It does what is supposed to do.

I purchased this product because I wanted to play my Ipod in my Accord. It was easy to set up but, the unit kept finding existing radio stations when I used the scan feature. Additionally, once I was able to find a empty station I would receive a lot of static while it was playing. Lastly, the sound quality was horrible. I tried to use the preset equalizers but, it didn't help. This product is being returned back to BestBuy.

Very simple to use. Easily hides in the center consule. Gives good reception and has strong enough transmission to override weaker FM stations. The auto find feature is great when traveling. Used it for a few weeks and I'm still happy with my choice.

This was so simple to set up, and the Smart Scan feature is great so you don't have to sit there and try to find clear stations. The sound is pretty crisp - not as good as a CD, but still very good. I liked this one better than the Belkin tunebase system - it also seems to be made better. I have owned two Belkin transmitters before, and both of them broke where the transmitter plugs in to the cigarette lighter. No problems though with the Griffin. Highly recommended.

If you live in/near a populated area, this thing is a piece of garbage unless you put it into international mode, then it works decently (although still not perfect). I read a lot of people saying they did it by going to settings - mode and holding down the middle button, which didn't work for me, it just gave the firmware version. I was about ready to throw the thing out, but then I got it to work by hitting the settings button, then holding down the "mode" button. It takes a while, but then I could pick US/EU/JP which allowed me to set it to 87.5, which my car stereo picks up, and there is no interference.

Overall, I would consider this product "useful." It's pretty user-friendly, and you don't have to search for channels while you're driving. Sound quality is fine the first month, and as you keep using it, the sound quality begins to die out. Unfortunately, mine didn't last a year, but I did purchase the same exact thing, because I was too lazy to try to even fixing it. So I guess, it's something that I would recommend :) It's better than all the other FM transmitters I've tried!!

I finally got an FM transmitter and Im very happy with this. My friends have various ones and the ipod usually dies because they don't charge and play.
Problems around lots of power lines? Its strange.
No problems with other people who also have transmitters either.
If you don't mind having your ipod plugged in while playing and the extensive cables, this is a good buy.

First of all the "scan" function is incredibly suspect. It often chose clear stations in my area, rather than the empty channels its supposed to be looking for.
I still would have kept it if it actually transmitted with any kind of signal strength. However, after finding the clearest possible channel ON MY OWN, and setting the itrip to that frequency, I was still unable to hear the music with any sort of clarity. Even setting the broadcast to mono to boost the signal did not result in acceptable sound quality.
For what this cost you can get a new car stereo with an AUX input, or for $50 more you can get one with a USB to connect your ipod to.

What is odd about the automatic search function is having it return a channel only .1 digit away from a blistering strong radio station. But I found that the higher number stations preset by this feature work better.
HOWEVER,
the cables are junk. The cable interface portions where the cable meets the dongol for the ipod and the transmitter itself - in the course of one month - suffered enough bending to stop functioning. The sheath was removed and the wires exposed.
Big design flaw as reinforcing around these areas is apparently critical.
Don't buy.

I bought this to use when moving from Houston, TX to Augusta, GA. My best friend went along to help me drive and this transmitter was a nice addition. I could plug it in on the driver's side and let the cords out so my friend in the passenger's seat could choose the music and find the stations without reaching over to my side. One down side is that while we were moving between cities, an unused signal in one city was being used in another so we had to constantly scan for new unused signals.

I am using it with an iPhone, and it was working perfectly until it stopped charging. The scanning feature is handy, except that the channel presets it came up with didn't work as well as the channels I found manually.

I love this little gadget. It only gets a little static when I need to switch it to the next city's empty station. I use it everyday on my way to work and back and its much better than being stuck with regular radio. It far exceeded my expectations!

Bought this for a gift, thought I would try it out on the way home just to make sure it works. Plugged it in and set the scanning stations. The screen was VERY hard to read, and the sound was HORRIBLE. Granted I do understand that FM transmitters are not a very good way to listen to music, however this sounded like music playing through a tin can. YES it was that bad. In my truck I am blessed with a cassette deck that I can use the adapter for my ipod, but my wife can't do that with her CD only car stereo. IF it would have been reasonable, I would have kept it, but the tin can FLAT, no tone sound was junk. Going to try ONE more before giving up on it. Hopefully I will be lucky

Don't bother with this one. I tried it in a 2004 Camry. Signal would go in and out every few feet of driving. I lost reception twice before getting out of the driveway no matter which station I used.

Honestly I thought this product was pretty decent. It always could find a station to play on, and the signal was clean and clear. The only time I heard a little static was when I was driving through New York City.
The problem I DID have with it was that it broke after about 4 months of use!! At first it was just a crack in the piece that connects to my Iphone (the dock? I guess) but soon enough the whole piece broke and the wires snapped off.
Maybe I was handling the product too harshly? I dunno, but was dissapointed it could not handle more every-day wear and tear.
Otherwise good product though!

This is one of those products that is only as good as your level of expatiation. I own a 2005 Subaru which has a sealed music system. There is no reasonable way to get into it. If you have any direct connect alternative, I would strongly recommend doing so and avoiding any FM transmitter. If you do buy the iTrip as I did, expect some compromises.
Just sending music over FM alone will diminish the quality. This is to be expected. What really effects this product is where you travel. I live half way between Philadelphia and New York city. The FM airwaves are crowded with stations. Including TV in the 87 range. Depending on where I drive, it is almost impossible to listen to. I could endlessly scan and try to find dead air, but there are just too many stations to deal with. If you have read some of the other reviews as I did this is no surprise.
Knowing the limitations, why did I buy the iTrip anyway? I didn't want or expect to use it on my daily commute, I bought it for taking on road

Buying this product was the worst thing i've ever done. First off was the $90 i spent on it, when I first got it, I liked the idea that it charged my iPod for me b/c that was the biggest problem with my previous one. When i got this one, i found out that losing battery power was ok. The auto scan picks the worst stations in the world, and when you do find a good station, you have to run the short cord all over the car to get a decent signal (I have to run mine up towards the roof, distracting huh?). Even with the transmitter as close to the antenna as possible, the music still fades in and out and there is constant static. Whoever said you get what you pay for obviously did not include this product.

Got my IPOD for Christmas and wanted it hooked up to my car. Dealer wanted nearly $200 as I don't have an AUX plug. So I asked an "expert" (my 21 yr old kid) and she said "Itrip." Got confused between Itrip and RoadTrip (same product, different holders) so I called Griffin and spoke to a knowledgeable human voice immediately. Ordered from Amazon on Friday and received it on Tuesday even with "free" shipping. Read the quick directions, plugged it in and had the whole thing working in less than 5 minutes. Reception is great even when I go under an overpass that always knocks out my husband's Sirrius.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas, because he is frequently driving on business. I wish it was on sale when I purchased it, but its still worth the $90 I payed for it. We went from Longview, Texas to Gunnison, Colorado and only had to change the station maybe 5 times... which I would say is outstanding, and with the smartscan It was very simple. One of the coolest things is going through Dallas and Amarillo and all the huge buildings and not having a static issue. I'd definately recommend this to others!

I completely agree with the reviewer who said it sounded like a radio station you are driving out of range from. The smart scan simply doesn't work - often suggesting one of the strongest stations in my area. I bought this just before a 6 hour car drive and it didn't work at all, even in the country areas with no radio stations. Manually going through every station, I got nothing but static-filled junk. Not worth the money I spent on it and I returned it as soon as I got home. Poor product.

I have been a loyal user of the Griffin iTrip products for over 3 years now, and have always thought they worked well. I currently am using the Griffin 9501-CBL iTrip, available on Amazon for $39.25 new, with my 5G video iPod. I've never had a problem with this transmitter - decent sound quality, easy to use, and pretty great signal integrity. I bought my wife an iPod Nano for Christmas, and thought she'd like to have her own FM transmitter to use in our minivan (2006 Odyssey). Purchased this new version at Best Buy for $89.99 (highway robbery, I know). We opened it up and trialed it on a trip to the relatives and I was immediately taken aback by how terrible it was. You could barely read the LED screen in the sunlight in the car, although it looks cool. It's reflective, and you can't see through it when the light is hitting it! That's an awesome idea. Secondly, it has this "smartscan" feature that seemed to work more like "dumbscan". Instead of supposedly finding the 3 best stations to

This model with the Smartscan, works very well in my car. Finds 3 stations and you can choose which one you want. For sound coming through your radio, sounds good.
I received a different one for Christmas which is the: Griffin - Power Play Protect Pack for Most MP3 Players Model: 9921-UNVBNDL and it did not work! Always static and could not find a good station. Also, sounded very far away.

it had the right idea but works horribly. The auto scan sounded great so i thought i would give it a try but after plugging it in and listening to music there always seemed to be static. i'm spending more time searching for a clear station rather than actually listening to music. i would recommend to not buy it.

This is the worst product I have purchased in 2007. Smart Scan is a joke. The three stations that it came up with have a strong local radio station which created more interference than most other stations. Not so smart. I have tried every station and still I get static. It is like listening to a radio station as you travel out of its range. Static and in/out reception. Very dissappointed.
