So far, so GREAT!

I decided to indulge myself in a larger screen TV for the first time ever - mostly because I wanted to be able to watch the Steelers in the Superbowl. :-) I was truly nervous about buying this kind of item over the internet but really figured I couldn't go wrong with the quality of the brand for the price. So far everything has been really great. The picture quality is quite nice (though might have been more spectacular if I had purchased something for another couple thousand dollars) and the sound is fine. Frankly, if you already have a much higher end large screen TV and wanted this as a backup for a bedroom or other spare room then you absolutely should get this right away because you won't get better quality at this price point. And if you haven't ever managed to afford anything in a CRT model in excess of 29 inches or thereabout, then I do think this is an amazing deal to get into the larger screen environment.

Nice picture, Poorly Made

I bought this TV back in December 2007. The picture is nice and clear. The TV does not have many other features, though. If you are one that likes to customize all of your settings, this is not for you.

A couple months after owning it, I started to notice a high, whirring sound coming from the set when it was off. After a couple more months, I finally contacted support. They were a bit difficult to deal with (it took several phone calls), but they did offer to service the set. The parts were free, but I did have to pay $70 for labor.

The process for sending the TV back went smoothly. I received the TV back a couple weeks later. It sounded good for a week and then that sound came back. At this point I gave up trying to fix it. I just turn off the power strip now when I am done watching.

Really Good Technical Support

I would normally take one star off in rating this TV, as I don't find the sound to be particularly outstanding. It's not bad, just not superior. We'll be attaching a separate audio device to improve this.

However, any stars I would take off I have to give back because this is a Technical Support Department that really lives up to its name! I've called three times (twice the problem turned out to be with my cable provider; once the manual was unclear) and each time I was connected to a knowledgeable person with minimal to no wait time. The number is listed in big letters on the front page of the manual -- they don't try to make it hard for you to find them. I've never heard of Funai Electric (the maker of Sylvania TVs) before, but I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for other products they make.

And as another reviewer noted, the closed captioning menu offers a lot of choices -- you can change text size, text color, border, background color, etc.

Awesome for this price point.

My boyfriend and I bought this set during a black Friday sale in 2007. We have had the set for over a year now, and I must say it is better than any TV we have seen, except for a Samsung(with 120hz) which costs $800+ more. The picture quality is amazing, the sound is great for built in speakers which we used until we bought a home theater in a box system.

There are only two complaints that I could think of; one is the ugly stand and the other is a buzzing sound from the speakers, which seems to occur in stand by and when the volume is at 0. Both are fixable though; we mounted our TV, and we found out that if you turn up the volume a notch then back to zero, the buzzing sound disappears.

cant beat it

Got this today, set up was quick and easy, sound is great and the picture is awsome, I realy cant beleave how easy this was to set up. we were watching tv and movies in no time and the remote is eay to figure out. it also has alot of nice options in the CC area. I am hearing impaired so this is important to me. as of now I am pleased with this perchase and would recomend this set.great price and great tv.

Perfect in every way!

This is such an awesome unit! I've watched more television this past week than probably in a whole year! What a totally different experience -- the clarity of the picture is outstanding. Easy set up, nice design. Completely satisified!

Incredible Picture !

We have only had this tv for a week and already love it !! We have been looking around for a bigger and better tv for awhile now. This one has features unavailble on some other the other brands and was comparable in price.
