Kensington SlimBlade Media Notebook Set with Wireless Keyboard, Laser Mouse, and Numeric Keypad (Graphite) K72279US
I wanted a compact keyboard with super-quiet, laptop-like keys. It's been three weeks, and the set is used both at home and at school. At first, it seemed that the mouse was too flat and the keyboard too stiff. But either I've become accustomed to it, or it has loosened up. Within a week I decided that I'm in love. At first, the mouse was a little weird. The cursor would wander, or the mouse wouldn't be very responsive after sitting for 10 or 15 minutes. The wandering ceased after the first few hours of use, but it's still occasionally a little sluggish after sitting for a while. The 'feel' of this keyboard is very nice, but the best part is that it is whisper quiet. However, it's disappointing that the alt+nnnn doesn't do anything, and that there's no middle mouse button. Even with the drivers installed, not all the functions are active on the keyboard. Neither does the 360° mouse scrolling work--the ball behaves no differently than a wheel--but the smooth scrolling is sweet. Orientation of the dongle is never a problem at home or at school. No matter what I do, if I'm close enough to see what I'm doing (up to 20 feet), the connection functions perfectly. My roommate, likewise, wasn't sure she liked the set at first. But after a few hours use, she's raving about it, too. Since I got it on sale and with a rebate, the three pieces are definitely worth the price paid. This review will be updated after a few months' use.

I love this keyboard. It's everything I wanted. Small, thin, with nice, shallow, soft touch keys. I shopped and tested many keyboards to find one that was close to the touch of my Dell laptop keyboard. The close position of the keys does take a little getting used to, but I needed something this small to fit on my desk. I'm not sure why some said it was cheap construction. It feels very sturdy to me. And the color is great. I haven't had to test out the number pad much though, but when I have it wasn't as easy to type by touch. I kept hitting the wrong keys. I do find that you have to push the keys a little harder than you would think, for both the keyboard and the number keypad, they need to be more sensitive in my opinion. The mouse is OK. It works as a simple basic mouse. But it's sad that they bundled this matching (expensive) set with a mouse as useless as this one. I had to get used to the shape of it too. It's not curved up like most mouse's are, it's very flat. But I've learned to like it. I just wish there were more buttons, like a back button at least. And since it was so expensive for this set, there's no way my husband will let me by a different mouse. So I'm stuck with it. I do like the scroll-ball though, it works really well. According to Kensington you do not need to download the drivers; it's a plug and play set. But I made the mistake of downloading the additional mouse works or keyboard works software they have on the website... DON'T DOWNLOAD THESE IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 7!!! It is not compatible with Windows 7, and when I went to restart my laptop to install the software, I had no keyboard or mouse at all. It even took over my onboard laptop keyboard and touch-pad mouse. It was horrible. Luckily I was able to do the restore from last saved session or something, and un-installed all the software from Kensington. Overall I love this keyboard!

This is the same concept as Microsoft's mobile 6000 compact keyboard with separate keypad except MS uses Bluetooth vs. standard wireless for Kensington. The MS keyboard CONSTANTLY lost connection if it was left idle for more than a minute or two, which was incredibly annoying. My suspicion is that MS hears that complaint often because they were very quick to offer a refund after little trouble-shooting effort. I've not had a single such issue with the Kensington in several days of use. The MS design and build quality is a little more refined (although the key feel is virtually identical) but my impression of Kensington went way up with this product.

I have been looking for a keyboard and mouse that would fit on the pull-out desktray in my home office built-ins. As soon as I saw this setup, I thought here's a solution that will work. I am very happy that not only was I able to easily fit the keyboard and mouse on my pull-out tray but I am very impressed with the quality. I am a fast typist (120 wpm) and I may be hard on keyboards as I usually wear off the letters which always elicits comments from others! I like the response of both the keyboard and the mouse. I also had been getting some carpal tunnel pain with my old mouse but this one seems to have a more natural feel in my hand. Also, this mouse is more responsive than my old wired one which took some getting used to but in the long run means less work on my part! You have to adore anything that does your work for you! : ) I miss the volume keys on my old keyboard so I have ordered the media center option available on amazon Kensington SlimBlade Media Remote Control K72320US. the number pad does not include the Alt-nnnn function needed to enter special characters. On a normal number pad on a keyboard entering alt + 0176 will produce the ° character, with number lock on. It produces nothing with this number pad. Setup was a breeze; the most difficult part was locating the usb dongle which I thought was missing but they have it designed to transport within the mouse! There are some nice hotkeys for PC - eject, default media player launch, backup, gadgets, search & organize which I enjoy; they require download of a driver from the kensington website. The instruction guide says line of sight is required for USB dongle but I stuck mine in the back of my pc and it is working great. I feel I got much more than I was looking for. Although I miss alt-0-1-7-6 and volume keys, I am very happy with the quality and everything else about this purchase. UPDATE: Mouse works well in browzing but horrible response in word processing, spreadsheets, and gaming. Really miss my mute and volume control keys as well.
