****I'M COMPARING MY OLD 360 WITH A NEW 360, SO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR READING****

A year or so ago I got a 360, mine was loud, hot, and RROD (red ring of death)'d in 2 weeks. Yes, it sucked back then. Well, I decided to take another shot last week. My new 360 was impressive to say the least.
First, the noise, it was quiet, actually quiet! Okay so i could hear it when I turned but as soon as I popped in CoD4 I couldn't hear anything but the game.
I also noticed the picture is clearer, it runs smoother, and this isn't my tv, I had the same tv back then and the same connection, same everything.
After messing around with the many many options such as custom log-in characters, custom backgrounds for the main menus and the dashboard that pops up in-game or for advanced options on the start-up menu.
Everything about the 360 is sexy and futuristic, all the bleeps and graphics that pulse through the screen, all this without even putting in a game.
Included in the package was a wireless

I am on my 4th Xbox 360 and today it has just given up the ghost.

1st - lasted 3 months
2nd - 1 month
3rd - 3 months
current - 7 months

The Indian robot phone support woman has told me that it is out of warranty less than one year after my last return. Overall, the various machines have been in the shop a collective 8 weeks - twice during school holidays. I cannot begin to communicate how disgusted I am with this - even after the well documented design failures it seems nothing has changed.
Do yourself a favor. You should buy this machine if you are willing to pay that price for 1 years operation, then play the odds if you get more than that out of your console.
I have written to microsoft requesting an extended warranty but I don't like my chances.

I have had the Xbox 360 since late 2007. In that time I have played it extensively. I have had the dreaded three red rings and sent it back to Microsoft under warranty. While very annoyed and frustrated I have to admit that the Microsoft turnaround time was excellent. I had it back in just over a week.

While I think the Xbox 360 offers a great gaming experience there are definitely some major issues:

1. I think the biggest single issue with the Xbox 360 above all others is its reliability. Prior to the 360 I had a Playstation 2. It never let me down. I have owned numerous computers, televisions, DVDs & other electrical products. You very rarely have to rely on the warranty as they just do not break down. It is a given that when you boot up your computer it turns on (unless a software issue!), when you press the button on your remote the TV fires up and so on. However, with the Xbox 360 every time you press the big button you cross your fingers that it glows green and not red. I never

I bought this last year so the warranty on it was over (1 year warranty) and then I get the 3 red lights so I decide to open it and try to fix it. It works for about a week and then it crashes again. Then microsoft extends their warranty to three years right after I open it voiding the warranty so I'm stuck with a $600 paper weight. I had only put like 10 hours of game time into it.

It was fun while it lasted...

I've had my 360 for about a year. I have not played it heavily since I have a full time job and I have to pay bills. About a week and a half ago, it croaked on me. When I went to turn it on, I got the "red ring of death." I've been talking to other gamers and have found that this is a very common problem. Some are even saying that the failure rate is as high as 33 percent. I made sure that my 360 was well ventilated, but that didn't help. I had it on a milk crate with a free standing fan blowing on it whenever I played.

Microsoft was supposed to send me a box to send my 360 in for repairs, but I haven't seen it yet. It's true that they upped their warranty to three years, but what are we supposed to do after that? All of my other systems have lasted longer than three years. The bottom line is that the XBox 360 is inherently unstable. It's unreliability makes it a poor choice for a game console. It is a poorly constructed product that is characterized by its inferiority. If

i love my xbox...or at least i did until it got the 'red ring of death'. no problem...go online, find out that for this hardware problem (and only this problem specifically) get it fixed for free (and I would add way beyond the normal one year warranty period as it is a common problem)...and when you review other websites/blogs you realise why. it seems this is more than just a common problem...staggeringly, apparently more than 30% are plagued with it...and it's all because the soldered joints in the hardware are flawed. the heat generated by the system tends to break them causing a 'general hardware failure'. apparently 'they' knew about this early on and set money aside to 'fix' any affected units later.
well after it got 'fixed' and i was without my system for several weeks, it's now decided to break again after 4 weeks of very low useage. no 'red ring' this time...i suppose this is all part of the corporate game you have to 'play' as they never admit these problems are theirs and you

When MSFT designed Xbox 360 they want max performance but they did little else. The console was poorly designed. Console enclosure, air ventilation and cooling designs are not getting the job done, which is to keep heat out of the console

360 comes with a 3-core powerpc chip from IBM that produce a lot of heat but look at the box it is basically a slim line computer case, they got all that goodies packed in there baking like a mini-oven.

PS3 comes with a 9-core distributed processing chip. Top fo the end stuff from IBM, Sony, Toshiba. The 9-core chip has a powerpc core and 8 specialized cores that were developed as a result of the joint venture and heat reduction was one of the reason why they went with this design. This is the next generation in microprocessing. Forget Quad core, duo core, you buy yourself a 9-Core CPU.

PS3 uses NVIDIA graphics, whereas 360 uses ATI graphics. This is personal preference, but I have had bad experience with ATI stuff so NVIDIA is the way to go when

I would like to start by saying that I have owned my 360 for 9 months now. Until recently we have enjoyed hour after hour of fragging bliss together. Now I would like to ask you a question. How would you feel if you paid $350 for the console, $120 for accessories, $50 for XBOX LIVE, and an easy $1000 on games and downloads only to find that the system destroys your precious collection one disc at a time. Halo 3... dead COD4... it killed my first disc and shortly thereafter ate my second disc, Yes it is my fault that so many of my best games have fallen to the XBOX 360's demise. I should have recognized that the 360 itself was etching game destroying scratches onto the previously immaculate discs. For the record... no I never moved the system while it was running a disc. The 360 has been sedentary and lived a very pampered life since its purchase date. Basically what it has been doing is leaving concentric circles/arches on the discs leaving you to see the "disc unreadable" error shortly

I bought this game console on initial launch back in 2006, worked for 7 months, got the ring of death, send it back to MS, oct 07 got a refurbished model which was not mine, my wireless controller did not work, sent my controller back for exchange for wired controller, lost of 20.00 now my rechargeable batteries are useless, lost 20.00 sitting around gathering dust + recharger 10.00 and wireless adapter 100.00 xbox live 50.00 Dec 07 (only 3 mo.) total of 200.00 extra. Finally craped out on me recently March 08. MS should be 3 yr warranty, but denied me because this time it was not the 3 rings of death. e74 error code this time. I'm getting PS3 next time. Now im stuck with all these accessories. DO NOT BUY XBOX 360.

I bought 2 Xbox machines for my nephews for Christmas (A Halo-edition and a Pro). They've been sitting on their shelf since Christmas now. One machine has been exchanged 3 times and still locks up after 5 minutes of play time. The other one has been exchanged twice - it doesn't work either. It takes about a month to get your hands on a replacement - which doesn't actually work any ways.

Microsoft admitted that they are having serious problems with their Xbox. So... shouldn't they recall them until it's fixed. Apparently not. They'll let you sit there with machines that don't work for a month and then give you your monthly replacment that doesn't work either. Then your kids get to sit there for ANOTHER month with a machine that STILL doesn't work for more than 5 minues.

For the most part I like Microsoft, but come on. 3 months of two Xbox 360's not working and I'm still waiting for a replacement for either one! This is ridiculous guys.

The jury is in, and Microsoft loses. Sorry but after owning an XBox 360 for over 6 months, and a PS3 for less time, I have decided that the XBox 360 is the inferior product. I don't play games on the console that often, preferring the PC for most shooters. However, because of console only titles, I bought this system. Despite the light usage the XBox 360 finally died with the famous "3 Rings of death" red lights. I sent it in for repairs (which were at least under warranty) and despite the fact that Microsoft said it would be fixed or replaced in 2 business days they had it for over a week before sending it back.

The other BIG downside to the XBox 360 is the noise factor. With the DVD drive going the system makes so much racket I can hear it over the games I am playing. Considering that one game is Nascar '08, that is saying quite a lot. No way I would ever use the XBox 360 for watching movies. Now that Blu-ray has won the High Def DVD wars, I bought a PS3 and was pleasantly surprised

Do not buy this thing. i have now had an xbox and an xbox 360 and both have gone bad on me. it now says to play this disc please put into an xbox 360 which was about the same message i got from the original one. Also got the red rings a few times but they said it is not eligible for repair yet!!! I finally just said forget it and bought a ps3. WAY BETTER. and once you think about how much more you get it is well worth the extra cash. i never use my xbox anymore!! Also the free internet and built in wireless router on ps3 is just as good as xboxs if not better. Plus you get bluray which is amazing. i am so glad i bought the ps3 and will never buy another microsoft video game system ever again.

I purchased this unit and I am now sending it back to Microsoft Service Center for the THIRD TIME in 7 months. I just received the XBOX from the service center last night, played a game for 20 minutes and BAM!!!the game froze up and RED RING OF DEATH appeared again! I am quite discouraged with this product, the custom support service center, and Microsoft for cutting corners in the manufacturing of this product. I would strongly encourage first time buyers to do their market research, consider a different gaming system and not purchase this product.

Just thought I'd let everyone know whose considering buying one. It looks like they're shipping the new Xbox's with the falcon chipset. Mine was manufactured in 12/07 and runs off the 175watt power supply.

From what I've read, most people shouldn't have a problem with your system and the RROD, if you take the necessary steps to make sure it stays as cool as it can. From what I've found out here's some stuff that will help it stay cool:

-Make sure its laying flat on a hard surface
-Make sure its got plenty of ventilation (don't block the back fan ports)
-Do not play the xbox off of carpet or a rug (heat builds up with these surfaces)
-Keep the power brick away from the console and also lay it on a flat hard surface.

Some other good ideas:
-Point a small house fan towards the top of the console, so air gets in through the top holes.
-Lay the Xbox down on a Laptop cooling fan (I'll probably do this one; the fan will only run when the console is on because most are powered by the USB ports)
-About

I would like to warn anyone considering purchasing any version of XBOX 360.DONT DO IT.....We purchased one for our boys 9 and 13 as a Christmas present and now 2 months later it is GONE. We had to ship it back to Microsoft. It started freezing up and the ring of lights on the power button was flashing. We called XBOX support and they said it had to come back for repair. THE UNIT WAS ONLY 2 MONTH OLD and at a price of 400 plus the games and accesories I find that absurb. Our kids are so disappointed and We are beside ourselves! We have since learned that most people we know that have owned a 360 have had to send it back at some point for repair. In the past few weeks I have learned of 5 more people that I know personally and 15 more friends of friends who have had this happen !!!!! UNBELIEVABLE PS: this repair takes 4-6 weeks
I find this totally unacceptable I would suggest as PS3 or a Wii instead. I don't see any benefit to this console- IT seems like rip off if you ask me.
The other

What a horrible experience! The console just died on me after just a year. Microsoft's technical support website is horrible, requiring you to first create a Microsoft Passport account before you can even register a warranty repair claim (that's when the website is actually up). The website does not process the warranty returns correctly either. I am still waiting for the pre-paid box to arrive. Horrible experience!!! Don't buy one of these things. Just get a PS3 and know that the games will arrive for it.

There's nothing fun about playing a game and having it freeze up in your face...especially when loads of money are spent on the console and associated games which can only be used with the Xbox 360. This is an AWFUL product and I suggest no one purchase this product. I recommend the PS3! Microsoft should refund faithful customers for their wasted moneys

I've never owned a game system before and decided to purchase the Xbox 360 (with hard drive) as my first and ONLY gaming system. I purchased the console in December 2006 as a Christmas gift to myself and within six (6) months (by May 2007) my console started giving me trouble. These red lights started flashing - in three of the four quadrants, and after consultation with customer support and following the steps outlined by them, I was told I had to return the system to them for repair. Luckily for me it was still under warranty.

It is all fine and dandy that the product was under warranty and I did not have to pay to repair it, but I'm from the Caribbean, Barbados to be exact, and shipping from Barbados to the US to have my console fixed was US$60. In the end they could not repair the console and sent me a replacement unit - "free" of cost.

I received the replacement unit in July of 2007, had to pay US$100 to have the item shipped back to Barbados. The unit worked well for another few

The xbox 360 premium I purchased for my grandson was advertised as including the games "FORZA MOTOR SPORT II" & "MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE."
My grandson notifies me that the two games were not received. Would you check this for me .
A 5 star rating would have been given except for these missing pieces. Thank you.

Overall I would have to say that my experience with overstock was a good one. The product was opened on Christmas day and it was the first time I saw it. It was in perfect condition and it operated the way it was supposed to. I was satisfied with the prduct and based on this experience would shop with overstock again. However, I was a little dissapointed to find this product listed cheaper on other sites.... I wonder, though, if with shipping cost it would have turned out the same... overstock charges next to nothing for shipping and items are shipped promptly.....

My kids received this as a Christmas gift from my in-laws. Took it out of the box, plugged it in, and it immediately froze up. Restarted it and it seemed fine, but then froze up repeatedly. We followed all of the advice on the support website, and finally called tech support. They advised us to mail it back and it would be 2-3 weeks for repair. When I took it to my local UPS store, the guy there said he sees about 12 per week being returned for repair, with some people saying it takes 2-3 months, not weeks. I am sorry that my in-laws wasted their money on this piece of @#$$%! I would never buy or recommend an xBox 360 to anyone because of this experience.

This was just what Santa ordered for my kids this Christmas! The wireless controller is great, the graphics are great, the HDMI option looks crisp and clear on our HD TV-basically this was well worth the money spent.
The only drawback was this same console was offered with two bonus games around the sam time mine was ordered and this wasn't offered on this site (at that time).
