I did a lot of research before I bought this tv, but being a newer model, could only compare it to similar models. I have had this set for about 3 1/2 months. I love the hd picture, upconverted standard dvds look awesome, and the sd picture is pretty good on most channels. However, I came home this evening, turned it on and nothing. The power light just flashes 7 times over and over. I called Panasonic and they are supposedly arranging for somebody to come out next week to look at it. We're watching a 13 inch RCA on a cardboard box. I saw another review on here with the same problem and as much as I paid for this, I'm going to be nervous about it from now on. I would highly recommend an extended warranty.

Panasonic has long been a leader in plasma technology and the new 77U series is no exception. The new TH-42PZ77U has a full 1920x1080 (1080p) panel that is now rated @10,000:1 contrast ratio and 100,000hrs to half brightness. What really sets the 77U series apart is the new "anti-glare" screen coating which differs from the "anti-reflection" coating on the other models. Some will say that the anti-glare degrades the picture quality versus the others...I say it doesn't matter if the set is unwatchable during the day in a brightly lit room. The 77U series is for people who can't (or don't want) to control ambient lighting and would normally choose an lcd because of this. Now you can have the superior black level and more natural colors of plasma in any room that you choose!
Pros:
1. Styling, gloss piano black around the bezel and thin speaker strips on the edges.
2.Outstanding picture quality for HD sources..especially Blu-ray/HD-DVD or even Xbox 360/PS3. Some will say that 1080p is overkill

After weeks of research and comparing differentbrands/models, I finally purchased this model, and it'severything I hoped it would be. The picture is amazing andthe 42 is plenty large enough for the 20' square room Ihave it in. The anti-glare coating doesn't affect theimage, but does a great job of muting any external lightsources. I don't have an HD satellite box yet, but evenwith standard definition (SD), the picture is amazing. Withstandard DVD's the picture is astounding. I don't have a HDor Blue Ray player yet, but I can only imagine that thepicture will be mind boggling. This is a great plasma tvand I don't think it can be beat for the price. Thesharpness (true 1080P), contrast (10k:1), and color beat outany other brand of plasma in this price range, anddefinitely looks better than the Sharp Aquos LCD's. B&H dida great job of getting it to me by Dec. 24, and with thewhite glove delivery service, someone from Manna personallypicked it up from the airport and brought it to my
