An amazing buy!

I bought this low-priced computer with expectations of a relatively poor quality machine. My expectations were unfounded as I soon realized when I received the computer. It works very fast, it has a large memory, and a large hard drive, and is easy to handle.

IBM NetVista 2.4GHz Pentium 4 Desktop Computer

I have been very pleased with the performance of this computer. It has all of the features that I need with the exception of a few, an example being, microsoft word. It performs quickly, with any internet connection speed, and is capable of multi-tasking without slowing, performance.

IBM NetVista

I bought this computer as an upgrade to an exhisting system. It has worked very well for internet, games and general household use. It came with no instructions or paperwork of any kind so you need to have a little experience to get it set up. I didn't like the keyboard or mouse that came with it an have since upgraded them. Still, overall it was a good value and would buy it again.

I used it three times

A friend was over and thier son was on myspace and some how loaded a virus from a mwssage. It had no protection despite what it was said to have. Came with no reboot disc like every other comp I have bought. Very expensive paperweight!

Bad luck at first, but a good buy

The disk drive connector cable came loose during shipping so when I first set up the computer I was greeted by "No Operating System Found" errors. Tried to install an O/S, only to see "No disk drive found" errors. Major panic - especially because I was past the 30-day return period. Not to worry -- Overstock.com tech support talked me through checking and re-seating the disk drive connection, and it's been smooth sailing ever since. This refurbished computer is fast and powerful, and I haven't had any problems removing the few bits of software that were installed. And it *did* come with Windows XP installed, one of the few must-have features I was looking for.

Good box

The computer arrived with a physically broken mouse, but a replacement was shipped within the week. We seemed to have to go through several layers of evaluation and communication from Overstock, but it was pretty hassle-free in the end. Getting the right video card for it took some searching, and if you are unfamiliar with the different kinds of video cards that are available, the different kinds of slots in desktop computers, and the needs of current games, it takes some searching to find the right card.

I was disappointed that no documentation was included in the box, nor was there even a link from the Overstock site to a source for a manual for this computer. I managed to find the information online, but verifying it pertained to my particular model took longer than I would have liked.

In addition to the broken mouse, the included keyboard is almost certainly not equivalent to what the manufacturer originally supplied in anything but color. It's thin and flimsy and I would be concerned  more

Great machine for the price

A friend pointed this item out to me because she knew I was in the market for a new PC. This was about $100 more that the computer I was planning on getting, but it's a much, much better machine. My only complaint, if it could even be called a complaint, is that there was so little RAM. I bought additional RAM at the same time I got the computer (but not from Overstock!) and installed it at the same time I set up the computer. I'm very happy with the computer - it's built like a tank, easy to use, fast (very fast!). A minor annoyance is that the two USB ports in the front are spaced/sized so that only regular USB cords can be plugged in. You can't use a card reader or flashdrive easily. You can get around this by buying an USB multiport hub (for about $10) or an USB extension cord (for about the same price). IBM Desktop

The IBM desktop is a very good buy for home use without paying a lot of money for computer . Very easy to install and get on line as I use a network in my home as we have laptop and for my wife`s computer.

Net Vista

Needed a family network storage server after the first one died. Nothing fancy, just somewhere to install my RAID 1-250 GB HD's with all our mp3's, pics, movies and backup files.
This computer is perfect for the intended purpose. Built like a tank, quiet, energy efficient and inexpensive.
So far it has been running for weeks with no problems or interuptions.

IBM Net Vista Computer Review

First off, the computer arrived much sooner than expected. I was absolutely astonished at how soon the package arrived at my door.

The compter arrived and was received exactly as expected. All of the necessary cables and peripheral equipment were present and in good order. After unpacking the unit and powering it up the installation went well without any problems whatsoever. Everything seemed to be in good working order.

However, it would have been nice to have been able to purchase a few options and have them preinstalled on the computer. For one thing, I found the 256 Mb of on-board memory to be inadequate for my purposes and I have since upgraded to a page od 512 Mb of memory with an eye on yet doubling this in the future. I would have been delighted to have been able to purchase optional memory pre-installed in the computer.

In like manner, I also find the 40 Gb hard drive to be inadequate for my needs and I have since purchased another hard drive with much greater capacity. Again,  more

computer

We have 5 computers in our home. This one is used to read mail and play a few on line games. It works perfect for this purpose. If you don't need a lot of extras, this is the perfect computer.

ME to XP

When Microsoft dropped Windows ME support I began to think seriously about upgrading to XP. I had several years of experience with my current IBM NetVista and decided to look for the same configuration but with a Windows XP operating system.
I found exactly what I was looking for at Overstock :
Windows XP operating system, a faster processor, the Desktop format I wanted and in the price range I wanted.
The unit is extremely quiet and the increase in access speed a real pleasure.

Good for the cost

I ordered this computer for my Dad who was using Windows 98 becasue his new printer he bought wouldn't work so he needed somehting from this decade. This is a great replacement computer for basic computing needs, and since XP was included it was an easy sell. One note, the keyboard came broken...probably from shipping.

good basic machine

This is a very nice basic system. Performance is good, setup was very quick and easy, and there have been no problems with it. I've spent large amounts of money buying new systems every two to three years and have always been disappointed in them. I have a feeling this machine will change the way I buy and use computers. A basic good, reliable system with addons purchased as I need them will most likely save me a lot of money and more importantly, save a ton of aggrevation.

Almost Perfect

Overall. this is a decent computer. However, the usb ports don't recognize any of my peripheral equipment. I'll still give it 4 stars because of the price.

Not what I'd hoped for.

The system will access the internet but it appears to have very, very limited capability for adding more HDD, which is very important to me. I maintain a 4 computer network system totaling 1.3 TB of HDD space. I added a 1GB Kingston memory stick (the best memory available) and the system faults out 2 or 3 times a week.
I expected better overall adaptablity to my current computer networking system from an IBM machine.

Nice

Needed a newer machine to handle music/recording/MIDI projects, with XP to support newer software, and so far this model is suiting the purpose perfectly. Immediately upon receiving this item (received only 2 days after placing an order with Overstock), I upgraded the RAM to 2 Ghz and added an Audigy 2sz sound card.
It's a good basic computer upon which to build, with room to add 2 more soundcards and another harddrive if need be.
The PC runs super quietly (I can barely hear it while it's running), being ideal for recording projects.
I am immensely satisfied with this transaction with Overstock, which was prompt and hassle-free.
Glad I took the plunge.
