I went to gamespot to purchase one of these halo edition 360's. They look cool and my old xbox 360 finally died. microsoft balked on the warrenty and wont repair it. I was surprised to find that MS tech support are complete idiots. If you call them you will see exactly what I mean. Im over that now.
I was looking for HDMI and the new falcon chipset. At Gamestop, All the halo versions were the original 203watt power supplies (no way am I buying another known piece of junk). also. i cant believe they sell a halo edition xbox and doesn't even come with the halo 3 game. Thats rich. Instead you get forza motorsports and a stupid spiderman game?? basically more Junk to sell on ebay.
For the extra $50 bucks (I got straight cash and plenty of it) I bought the elite version xbox. You get 120gig HD which is overkill and totally unecessary, HDMI and the newer falcon chip wich runs at a cooler and quieter 175watts. This unit also covered by MS 3 year warrenty. foeshow.
I hope this

Be warned, the Halo special edition also has the three red lights of death problem!
Purchased this for my son for christmas 07, thought I read it was a new chipset so didnt have the thermal problem. I dont know if the three lights of death problem is the thermal issue or a different problem, but the second day of use the unit wouldn't power on. Three red lights in a circle blinking. Power cycled it a dozen times to no avail. Unplugged the cord, waited, replugged, nothing. Then about 15 minutes later my son tried it and it did power on, very bizarre.
So I'm keeping it plugged in and forbid my son to power the unit off at all costs! I expect the thing will have more problems, but it seems to be working at the moment.
Halo 3 was incredible by the way, a shame the game system has such lousy reliability issues. After a year, one would think it would have been sorted out. Microsoft as a hardware company is a major failure.

Hi guys, despite this console's God-awful appearance, this system's internal organs are the fastest and most reliable around, arguably better than the Elite. Although Microsoft won't officially concede this, the CPU runs on a 65 nm chip (rumored Falcon Chipset), which prevents overheating and the red ring-of-death phenomenon much more effectively than the Premium 360 version. So if you're skeptical about purchasing a 360 because of the numerous reported catastrophes, set your sights on this one. It's almost foolproof. I ran it over three times with my 3 tonne pick-up truck, and it's still intact. I also shot it with a 12 gauge and all it did was improve the graphics. Ok, I'm totally kidding, but the CPU is one heck of a technical amelioration. It's incredible no one else has found this out and publicized it more.
