We found this unit to be very easy to use once the set up was complete. It is great to use to convert VHS to DVD. It probably doesn't have all of the fancy features, but since this is all we bought it for it wasn't necessary.

Was a little concerned about the whole "refurbished thing" but it looked almost new. Had it up and recording some TV shows in less than 30 minutes. Pretty cut and dry setup if you've connected a dvd or vcr before. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the newer models but for the price I wasn't expecting them. So-so packaging though, item was bubble wrapped well but outer box was barely taped shut. All in all, a very inexpensive functional machine.

I WOULD AGREE WITH WHAT MOST PEOPLE SAID BUT WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE MAGNOVOX DVD RECORDER. I WAS MORE PATIENT AND I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO BUT YOU STILL NEED TO LOOK AT THE MANUAL WITH WHAT YOUR DOING.YES THE REMOTE IS DIFFCULT BUT IT WAS MADE TO BE WITH THE MAGNOVOX DVD RECORDER WHICH I KNEW.THE CABLES WHERE KIND OF CONFUSING BUT I GOT IT. NOW PROBABLY NOT EVERYONE WILL GET IT AT FIRST BUT YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE ITEM WITH YOUR CABLE SYSTEM ALONG WITH YOUR TV.ITS GREAT A ITEM IT WORKS AND IT RECORDS FANTASTIC !!!! I

This is a great deal for the price, set up was not as complicated as I expected, but you need to read the instructions before you start. My only problem was not with the machine. The description dose not spell out clearly that this machine only records on 2 types of media, DVD+R and DVD+RW (with plus signs). DVD-R and DVD-RW (with minus signs) are not supported formats, and of course the 10 pack of DVD's that I ordered when I ordered the recorder were the wronge format. Once I got the right ones I had no problem recording, and programing is very similar to a VCR. It also labled in the browser what some of the shows were that we recorded, (it gave the Indy 500 a scrolling banner in the browser!) The remote was easy enough that even my husband could watch a programe without assistance.

Works very well. Was in like new condition although advertised as referbished. Menus a little complicated compaired to newer machines. Was good value like it.

I bought this DVD recorder about a week ago. I have tried to record shows off tv several times now. When I get about 2 hours recorded (device is set to record 8 hours on disc) the player stops recording, opens up and I can no longer do anything with the disc that I used. I cannot view it or edit it. Everytime I try to put the same disc back in it just spits it out right away. I have wasted several discs now that I will have to throw away. So far I have not successfully recorded anything. The fact that this is a refurbished item was not clear when I purchased it or I never would have bought it.

Outstanding quality for the money...Picture quality and sound of the recording mirrors the orignial. No blemishes, packing was excellent with the player received wrapped in bubble wrap and a thin plastic protectant. My only complaint was the user manual was a stapled copy, but who really reads those things any way.
Overall happy, happy, happy with the project.

This was a refurbished product but I was surprised that the dvd player was just wrapped in bubblewrap. The box was completely destroyed (fell apart completely when I picked it up) and one of the cables was missing. The player works fine so my only complaint would be the poor packaging.

I didn't like the fact that you need the remote to use the basic commands. Unless i have a defective product, i was unable to play and forward a dvd through the unit itself. Otherwise the image is ok nothing to brag about.

It took me some time to get this unit operating, but a good deal of the complexity here was due to the presence of other equipment that complicated the hook-up. I haven't used the recorder a great deal, but my two experiments provided good copies. I'm still discovering features, so my rating here is quite provisional. I may be very pleased with them eventually. But it's an attractive unit, and once I conquered the set-up problems, I'm happy about this purchase. One warning: a Magnavox technician told me that this unit may be able to use only fixed-speed DVD+RW disks, not the widely available variable-speed disks. I found the fixed-speed disks online and they work well. But I'm not sure this limitation is actually true.
