Just wanted to throw in an important fact. Don't buy the GAME ONLY unless you already own a GH guitar. I went and bought both GH 2&3 thinking I could use my Rock band Guitar. Your RB guitar will not work with any GH games!!! Now I have to spend more money for a guitar, when I tried to save money. Great Game BTW!

I bought this for my grandson. Based upon the picture on the box and the product detail provided for this item, I thought some type of guitar was included with it. Because it was sent directly to my grandson who lives over 600 miles from me, I did not realize that the guitar was a separate purchase until I spoke with him after Christmas. I think that it should be made much clearer that this item is a video game only; and no instruments are included. Surely you must realize that many purchases are by older adults long removed from the age of persons interested in these games, who have never heard about them until a grandchild, niece or some other young person mentions it as the item they'd like for their birthday or Christmas. With limited knowledge of these items, we depend on the descriptions to assist us in our purchases.

Game is fun; however, I had to buy 2 of them. The one I bought from you is still in wrapper because I had to buy a bundle from another store to get a guitar to play with. You did not sell the guitar or the bundle. By the time I realized the position I was in, it was past the 20 day return time you allow so basically I am stuck with an extra game and short $60. If I had bought the game anywhere else, I could have returned it with receipt up to 30 days AFTER Christmas. Because of the return policy, I will be very careful before purchasing from Overstock.com again.

I loved GH2 and bought GH3 the first day it was released. There's just something about the game-play and the guitar controller that is addictively fun and has me playing these games over and over, to the annoyance of my girlfriend. But Guitar Hero 3 is a bit of a step back.
The music isn't as good, for one thing. The non-master tracks all sound kind of garbled or they just sound "off" (Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Pride and Joy" or ZZ Top's "La Grange" for example). In GH2, the game did a better job of replicating the non-master tracks, IMHO. Then there are times when you're playing along more to the synthesizer track or the drums, rather than a guitar ("Suck My Kiss" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers isn't exactly a classic "guitar" song and the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" isn't really a guitar game at all, though the Rock Band version might have you re-think that).
Also, the game-play just doesn't seem to be as well-synched as in the original GH2. The buttons come flashing at you in a random way

A note to any official Amazon guys - you might want to merge this review set with the bundle on 360.
Okay. Now, I'm a fan of the franchise. I own a lot of it. All of it, actually, and twice on 360 and PS2 for the immediate predecessor of this installment. So, hopefully you will trust me when I say that I am a fan of the gameplay and the franchise in general in this preface.
It's kind of baffling what's happened with this game. Neversoft has certainly recognized some of the shortcomings of its predecessor, but have somehow managed to not solve even one of those issues, and have, in fact, introduced new problems to be addressed. I'll do this as a sort of point-by-point thing, to keep it organized:
1. Medium-to-Hard. In Guitar Hero 2, the jump from Medium to Hard was only slightly more enjoyable than stepping in front of a speeding bus. The main reason this was such a problem was that the game was very, very poorly designed for getting players over that average-to-hard hump. For
