It's amazing what this tiny device can do, and so simple, drag and drop. I lost my info on my old computer when it crashed, thats when I bought my Kingston data traveler and have been very pleased with it's performance.

I've had the drive for about 10 months. It doesn't work well with my Mac Leopard 10.5 OS, it locks up after an undetermined amount of time and it sometimes even brings the OS along with it. Apart from this, the construction is of poor quality. It came apart after 10 months of use, the plastic seems to be very cheap. I had to tape it back together with black tape. If you want a USB drive, try Kingston's more reliable/compatible/trusty DTI series or other brands.

I bought this to put movies on instead of buying dvds, and watch on dvd player through its usb port. So far its worked very good, very clear picture for movie playback, I am very happy with this product.

I purchased this product a year ago and my only regret is that I didn't wait until a later date. I have had no issues with this drive it's fast, quiet and and easy to insert and remove from any machine.

It's small, the transfer rate seems ok, now lets see if it lasts the 10 years or 10000 rewrites as everyone says they will.

When I got this product home and tried to insert the drive into my computer's USB slot, the connector would not extend far enough (I have a Dell desktop). Eventually I took the drive out of it's plastic casing entirely and wrapped electrical tape around it so that I could use it. Don't buy this slide type. I have a drive by the same company with a cap that does not slide and it works just fine.

I have been using this particular jump drive for several months now and am quite unhappy with it. I use it as the primary storage of important files that I like to keep with me so I can access them at work or at home. However, it has happened several times now that one or more of my files have become corrupted. Luckily, I back it up regularly on my PC's hard drive so I haven't been totally hosed. The previous jump drive I used never had this problem. I'm also not thrilled about how it retracts into the housing, leaving the end open for dust and/or dirt to get into the USB connection. Better to find a product with a real cap to cover the end.

This is a nicely made flash drive with plenty of room for lots of big files. And, it is a good value for the money compared to other 16 GB flash drives. Also, I like the retractable USB connector - it slides in and out easily via a little tab on the side. And, once extracted, a little indent clicks in so that the connector will not be forced into the drive when the drive is inserted into a USB port.
On the negative side, it doesn't have an LED indicating read/write access. This is a minor issue to me, but thought it deserved mention. Another con, however, might be a bit more of an issue for some people. This flash drive is a bit slow compared to two others I have. I ran some simple benchmarks, copying files to this drive as well as two others: a 2 GB "no name" flash drive (drive "A" in the results below) I got for free at a computer store as a promo about a year ago, and a Lexar 256 MB drive (drive "B" below) that is a least two years old. I copied two sets of files as detailed

I bought this drive and was delighted with the price, but it died after only a month. I have 2 other SanDisk Cruzer flash drives and have had no problems with those.

This device has worked from the begining. The connector ejection system doesn't feel good but funcntionally there is nothing to commplain about. It is a solid generic thumb drive.

I just popped the flash drive into my USB port and was able to save and access files within seconds. I don't need security features so for me this flash drive was a great solution to backing up and storing media files.

this f/d has a retractable usb connector...which is a great idea... unfortunately, it isn't protected and stuff can collect in the usb connection while retracted...
think of your dig cam with retracted lens with no cover...
i sure wouldn't want to screw up any of my usb connections trying to insert a messed up usb connector...
as far as the 16gb goes...it works great... i'd just recommend one with a cap...

I liked it and it seems to be working great. It would have been nice if it came with a lanyard for wearing around neck. I ordered 12 (to have extras) from another outfit.

Having used various other manufacturer's USB flash drives, I found the Kingston DataTraveler to be recognized more easily by both Macs and PCs. Great product.

I bought this product for research data and pictures. It works well but its plastic outer covers seems cheaply made. It's not as solid as my previous flash drives and doesn't seem like it will hold up very long. I also am afraid that the button that allows you to slide the USB connection in and out is fragile and will break soon. While it's nice that this connection is retractable, it would also be awful if the latch broke and I was no longer able to get to my data. I have had a good experience with other Kingston products so I'm hoping this product will work out well for me too.

This Kingston DT100/8GB Data Traveler 100 8 GB Drive attempts to achieve some of the features of the Sandisk Cruzer and comes pretty close. The several Kingston usb drives I own, such as the Kingston 8GB DataTraveler USB flash drive have done well for me so far. 8 GB capacity is very useful for large file backups or USB storage and transfer. Overall this is a good product. There are a few caveats though.
This is definitely an improvement over the standard design Kingston uses for the basic Data Traveler. Transfer speeds are better than the basic drive as well, but slower than the top end devices.
In order to enable encryption, there are a few ways but the best may be to use another tool to encrypt the drive after re-formatting it. This way you can test the drive as well as use the encryption you prefer.
The main real competition is from the SanDisk 8 GB Cruzer Micro which also has a retractable USB connector. The body is slightly smaller too, but it is more expensive though.

I bought this device to transfer digital pictures made in the field and stored on my laptop computer to our desktop computer for processing and storage. This product performs this task very well. The transfer speed is what I have come to expect from a flash memory device. There have been reports that these devices may be slower than thumb drives with smaller capacities, but if so, the difference is not detectable.
The small physical size sometimes causes it to be difficult to find in the camera bag, but that is a minor complaint. There is a LED to confirm that data is being transferred, which some list as a desirable feature.
All in all, this device works very well to transfer raw and jpg pictures between computers with Windows XP operating systems. I gave it five stars because it satisfies my needs and to date, I find no specific faults to complain about.

I like this drive alot. I has a light, weak feel about it. Huge size and fast transfers (even in Vista) are its strengths. It has no encryption. But I found an application that can encrypt and lock your thumb drive... its call TrueCrypt. Upon insertion of drive, a password prompt come up. I love this drive!

The Kingston 8GB stick is nice and small, gets cheaper every week, has a neat retractable USB plug, and has never given me even the hint of a glitch (unlike other sticks I've used). But... it's so SLOW. When you've got 8GB to fill, a slow transfer rate really grates - I've tried reformatting it from FAT32 to NTFS as some people recommend, and I'm currently reloading the files back on it - it's loaded 4GB in 2 hours 15 minutes, which works out at 0.5m/b per second - lower than USB 1.1 speed. I'm only ever going to use it as a backup archive - no way is it fit for everyday read-write use.

With all due respect, Gadgester deducted 2-stars for the wrong reason. Ready Boost will only recognize flash-drives up to 4GB, so you wouldn't buy this 8GB drive for Ready Boost anyway. Save your money and buy a 4GB if you plan on using it for Ready Boost. If you're looking for a flash-drive that is fast, reliable and has the ability to hold a lot of info, this is a great drive! Highly recommended....

8GB flash drive the same size as my old 512 MB. Also a big fan of the retractable connector. Eliminates the need for DVD's when sharing large amounts of Data.

This is an excellent device if you're looking for a lot of space without having to pay much for it.
The only drawback was the fact that there is not a password locking feature on it (like the Memorex I had), but not much of a deterrent from buying it.

8 gigabytes of data on something smaller than my little finger -- five of these is the size of my hard drive at work. Amazing. And the USB port retracts into the body so it can't be lost. Highly recommended.

I like Kingston products. They are general of high quality. This 8GB Data Traveler 100 is no exception. It provides solid performance and seems well built. Please note, though, that this drive is not compatible with Windows Vista's ReadyBoost feature -- it says so on the packaging. This means it does not meet the read/write speed requirements of ReadyBoost. But in everyday file copying, it seems pretty fast.
The drive comes formatted in FAT32. If you share this across different OSes -- including Windows 98 or earlier, Mac OS, Linux, etc. -- you might want to leave it at FAT32. If you use Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista exclusively, you may want to convert it to the NTFS format for better performance, as well as for the ability to store files bigger than 2GB. (FAT32 cannot store files bigger than 2GB.)
To convert the drive safely (without losing any existing information already stored on it), follow these steps:
1. Open My Computer and find the drive letter assigned to

I shopped around for the best price and Overstock beat everyone, even the name retailers that had this product on sale. I already owned one and wanted to purchase another to back up files from another computer. The ease of Kingston Data Traveler is as easy as it gets. A person with little knowledge of the computer can use product. I like the idea of having my back-up on one Flash Drive, I would highly recommend this product.

This is the third flash drive I have purchased. I listened to some friends who use flash drives often. They also said 2.0 GB is the minimum you want to have. I bought this 8.0 GB for major work when I have to be out of the office. So now I have the 2.0 GB, the 4.0 GB, and now the 8.0 GB. So far so good for all three. It really works. It is a great and reliable product, and the deal on Overstock was a great one.

The Kingston Data Traveler is a perfectly useful 8GB USB Drive. The drive works flawlessly.
However, as data storage size gets greater and greater, encryption software becomes crucial for security. There is no software installed on this drive. If you have any data you wish to have secure, you need to consider a USB drive that has encryption software.
Also, the casing has a cheap plastic feel, though I think it will hold up to normal daily use. The USB connector is retracted using a sliding thumb switch. That's good if you are using it around an office/school environment. However, if you are using the drive in dirty or sandy environments, it's possible the mechanism could get fouled and jam.
