many good points but execution falls down

I am a relatively new gamer, but a HUGE Simpson's fan and so was very excited about this game. I tried it out, and while it is way cool that they got the real voice actors to do the voices for the characters and the in between videos, and the graphics are also really cool (the characters look almost exactly like they do in the show); I was very disappointed. The main problem is that the game play is extremely difficult. To be clear, it isn't that the game itself is hard, but rather that the camera angle makes it really hard and extremely frustrating to play the game: it seems to always be in the wrong place. Another flaw (from a Wii perspective) is there is very little use of the Wii remotes capabilities. The later is forgivable given that it is a multi-platform game, but the previous is not forgivable (especially from someone like EA), if they had the camera placed correctly the game would be far less frustrating and much more enjoyable.

I've been keeping an eye on the development of this game and I was really looking forward to its release. Now that I've had the chance to sit down and play it, I'm afraid it wasn't anything like I thought it would be.

Before I go into any negatives, I will say that the script/spoken dialog in the game is hilarious and features the original cast voices. The character animation is also done nicely. Unfortunately, that is where the positive comments end. The play control is a disaster. It was difficult to control the various special moves for each character and camera tracking was horrible. You can manually reposition the view point being shown, however I found myself constantly needing to do so in order to make my way through the levels. Overall, it just felt like I wasn't in control of the character and often times it was very frustrating trying to jump from platform to platform only to fall down and have to start a tedious process of getting back to where I was at all over again.  more

Fun in spots, but very frustrating

I think the developers just took on way too much to create a game that really works well. There are some parts that are very fun, but in general this game is way too frustrating. The camera has serious problems and creates situations in which you can't see what you need to do. Just when you think the game is over, it continues on with some bigger than mini-games which could have been games all on their own. Maybe if the developers didn't try to do so much, they could have worked out some of the kinks and made this a really great game. It certainly has the potential.

If it were as much fun as it is to watch

The translation of this game to the Wii is fairly weak due to the control system. It was ported to the Wii system and the game does not take true advantage of the Wii's bread and butter, the controller. The game boils down to you using the left "nunchuck" for charactor movement and the right to punch, jump and control the camera. All of which are *NOT* any of the Wii sensors in the remote. In the main story line and game the only seemly use of the Wii's internal sensors is when you shake the controls to perform your special move. There are mini-games for the wii version which use wii's internal sensors but they are rather boring and will only hold the interest of a 5 yearold with the exception of my girlfriend.
The camera does not seem to move on its own much or at all in this 3rd person game and if you are positioned on a ledge you are unable to pan behind your charactor at all. The camera is treated like a object and cannot pass through any objects.

[UPDATE**] - Ive played this title a bit more over the long weekend, and while the controls are still less than ideal, it is actually a fun title. Mario Galaxy is still far more fun to play... but the multiplayer option in this game is nice. However, the gameplay is still quite akward, even with 2 players. I will keep this game, and I am sure I will finish it one day.... but who knows when

[Original review]:Let me start by stating that I am a long-time gamer, and a die-hard Simpsons fan. I have played every other Simpsons game to date, and have to admit that this one dissapointed me the most. First, the good:
*The animation (cut scenes and gameplay) is great. You really feel immersed in an Simpsons episode. The game dialog and situations are funny and classic simpsons.
*Co-op mode was a good idea. If it wasn't for the negative aspects of this game, this would have really shined.

Simpsons Game Wii

The Simpsons Game was a relatively fun game. It has an interesting storyline and challenges some to an extent. I rate it four stars because I thought it was a good game and it involves the Simpsons, along with other negative aspects. One of those negative aspects are the camera angles, as written in almost all of these reviews. They are bad and move often. It reminds me of Mario 64. Another reason it is not as good as it could have been is Marge. She really brings the game down. Her special move is getting people to side with her. That is dumb. One of your missions with her is to clean up a ghetto. A friend of mine wanted to see the game and that was a mission I haven't done. Needless to say, we were both bored out of our minds and he never wants to see or play this game ever again. I changed his mind after I showed him a different mission, however.
