The XBox 360 elite finally pushed me over the edge. I've been resisting buying a 360 for a while (mostly because of hardware reliability concerns) but recently purchased the elite console. Now that I've done it I can't believe I waited this long--I'm enjoying gaming immensely, have barely scratched the surface of Xbox live, and have linked the console to my Windows Media Center PC and am messing around with the many capabilities there as well. I own (and love) a Wii and have nothing against Sony, but I'm very impressed with the XBox 360.
FIRST, THE CONSOLE: The XBox 360 features amazing graphics and an enormous library of games that, as of the time of this writing, dwarfs those of the PS3 and Wii. Initially I was concerned that the PS3 would perform better, but from what I've read and seen it seems the framerate and graphical capability of the XBox is at least equal to the PS3, though I have no desire to argue the point because I think they're both great machines. My reason for choosing

I've had it for a week now and I believe I've gotten the new Falcon chipset with 175 Watt power supply. So far it's frozen once while playing the Ninja Gaiden II demo, but nothing else has happened. *crosses fingers*
PROS:
- Great library of games, nice controller, aesthetically pleasing hardware, GREAT online services, supports DIVX and WMV-HD, so you can watch movies from external storage devices.
-The XBL Marketplace is great with a ton of demos, arcade games, add-ons, movies, TV shows, and game videos. The HD movie selection is mind-boggling. I've already downloaded over 35 demos and I don't even own a game yet.
- The interface is smooth and easy to use.
- You can stream media from a Mac or PC with the right software (Connect360 for Mac, not sure about Windows side).
CONS:
- Not sure if I want to pay $50 a year for the Gold membership's online gaming and getting demos sooner than Silver users. PS3's online gaming is free for the most part (aside from DLC).

Ah, Xbox 360, a good system in many ways. The online portion is great. By far it is the best online play of any console. The controller feels good in your hands and works well. The system has a lot of stuff other than just games you buy from the store. It has great games you can buy and download. You can either hook up an either net cable or buy a wireless adapter for 99.99 dollars. You can use Xbox live gold which will cost about 49.99 for a year, or you can use silver which is free. Of course you need wireless internet for this to work. You can also buy and download movies and shows. Now I think (having my apple TV) that it is stupid to download movies and shows on my 360. But for those of you who do not want to spend all that money for an apple TV. That is a great feature. Then your not just paying for a game system, your paying for a media system. I am not sure how much space the movies and shows take on your hard drive, but you can always buy a new hard drive. The few

So far, so good. In spite of horror stories of hardware failures, and in spite of my antipathy towards most things Microsoft, I finally broke down and got an up to date console. My old PS2 is still fun, but I wanted to be able to play Rock Band & Guitar Hero online with some of my friends & co-workers. I've had my Elite for about a month now, and it has worked well.
Wary of overheating issues, I placed it on top of my entertainment center, which causes some problems with the cords for all of the Rock Band peripherals, and also highlights my one complaint about the machine: The cooling fan is freaking *loud*. Thankfully I can just turn up the volume.
Aside from the noisy fan, I'm very saitisfied with this console. The included controller seems to be especially well built, though I haven't had to use it much up to now.

I made the mistake of buying this version of the Xbox 360 for the 120GB hard drive. I thought I would be able to copy video files to the 360. It turns Microsoft only allows you to copy music and pictures to the 360. If you want video, you have to buy it on Xbox Live, or hack your console.
If you're in the market for a 360, save yourself some money. Buy the cheaper version with a 20GB hard drive. On any version you can stream video from your XP or Vista PC as long as you have Windows Media Player 11 installed and configured for sharing across your network.
In hindsight, I should have bought a Playstation 3, which allows you to copy video to the hard drive easily. You can also upgrade the PS3 hard drive without voiding the warranty. The 360 hard drive, however, uses a proprietary input.

Microsoft and Xbox fans the world around: I owe you an apology.
I have been scowling at Xbox and Xbox owners since it hit the market. "It's not as good as Playstation - it won't last" I always said. Then the Xbox 360 came around, and I skulked into a corner, clutching my Playstation 2. "PS3 is around the corner - it'll show you..." A few months after PS3 hit shelves (more than a year after Xbox 360 came to market) I took posession of a new Playstation. The PS3 made me change my mind. Months later I had six games, and a Blockbuster Video (tm) membership card collecting dust. There was nothing to play! No new games on the horizon, nothing catering to my interests. I finally broke down, grabbed the credit card and bought an Xbox 360 Elite.
With a heavy heart I say: I love it.
I now have nearly three times that of my Playstation 3 collection just a few months later. I have just as many Xbox peripherals as I do the Playstation, and the recent blockbuster, best-selling titles I

Alright, so I already had a PS3 and a Wii in the household (Christmas gift to the little lady)but I would still look at the xbox 360 and salivate on the great titles I would miss out on that would be exclusive to Microsoft's machine. So after wrestling with myself for quite some time, I finally bit the bullet and got myself an elite. My first impressions were how surprised I was that the 360 is actually slightly smaller than the PS3. The finish on it isn't exactly black, more like a dark grey (or maybe it just looks that way next to my super black and glossy ps3). Setting up an account was easy enough, and from there I browsed all the game demos and videos pre-installed finding most of them pretty worthless, but they were free. Handling the controller is surprisingly comfortable, more so than either the PS3 or the Wii.
I also bought a game, Mass Effect, to try out my new toy. So I boot up the game and try to enjoy the opening cinematics but its being drowned out by the insanely

First off, I'm pretty sure that all do by now but mine did come with the new Falcon chipset (this means its less likely to ever overheat). Set-up was very easy and operation has been flawless. I bought my system because I recently became hooked on Halo 3 MultiPlayer via X-box Live. With all of the new maps being released for Halo 3, having the large 120GB hard drive will definitely pay dividends. Also, I really like the black color on the console and the accessories.

I had the standard 360 and ended up with the Red Ring of Death after only a few months so I took the opportunity to upgrade to this unit and so far no issues. I have downloaded every game demo offered and consumed like 70GB of the 120GB drive so I definitely benefited from the increased capacity hard drive. I let it run for about a week or 2 straight while I was doing this on and off as time allowed downloading and had my friends yelling at me to turn it off to avoid overheating and damaging it, but I had no issues. So far I am very happy with the unit and extremely pleased with the price considering that just to buy the 120GB drive for the standard unit I once had would have cost more overall than buying this one already put together. Plus all the rest of my stereo components were black and it now matches much better than the former white unit....

THE ELETE IS THE WAY TO GO.ALL THINGS CONSIDERED IT IS THE BEST.ALTHOUGH I DO BELIEVE THE SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETE WITH HDTV DVD PLAYER IT IS AFTER ALL CALLED THE ELETE HOW IS IT THE BEST WITHOUT EVERYTHING

The Elite is my 2nd Xbox 360 that replaced my old 360 premium which I ended up selling to a friend of mine. My old Xbox 360 had the older chipset so I made sure the Elite that I got had the Falcon chipset.
The 120GB hard drive is plenty enough to download arcade games, game demos, TV shows, and movies. My previous 360 with the 20GB hard drive got filled up too fast.
I've owned the Elite for about 2 weeks now and have been using it every night playing Call of Duty 4. So far the Elite has been very reliable. It's also amazing when using it on a HDTV! I've also downloaded a couple of movies with no playback issues.
Because there is no built in Wi-Fi I had to buy the Xbox wireless adapter which is another $99.00. I also sent in a check for the optional extended warranty for $59.90.
I was expecting the DVD drive to be quieter than my previous Xbox but it was just about the same. Just turn up the volume a bit and you won't hear it.
The RROD can still happen on an Elite with a Falcon chipset

It's hard to review a product without comparing it to it's rival, the PS3. I have both. Blu Ray has won the High Definition format wars, so I'll be picking up Blu Ray movies now. The 360 definetely has the better online experience, hands down. Sony touts Home, so we'll see if in the future it compares to Xbox Live, or keeps us wanting for more.
I see people complaining the Xbox Live cost $44.99 ( Amazon price) a year, and PS3 has free online. With the PS3's online experience it should be free because it feels free. With Amazons price on Xbox Live Gold, the price is $3.74 a month. I don't smoke, do drugs, or spend money on any other vice, so $3.74 doesn't hurt to give. If it does hurt you, give up the Starbucks lattes and smoking. If the price still hurts you, pick up every penny you see on the floor.
Comparing the controllers, the Xbox 360's feels better, and more solid than the PS3's Six Axis. Rumble is needed, and Sony will be coming out with them in the U.S. in a couple of months.

This is my second Xbox 360 purchase. I replaced the first generation Xbox 360 Console Includes 20GB Hard Drive (with HDMI).
The main reason I wanted the Elite is because of the 120GB HDD and the HDMI output. My original Xbox 360 did not have the HDMI port, so obviously I could've saved the $100. Considering the Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive is $179, it's a no brainer to spend just an extra $100 to get the extra space.
I've owned a 360 for about a year and 3 months now, but had to send the original to get fixed 3 times because of the RRoD problem. Since I've had the elite console, I've had no issues whatsoever. It is noticeably quieter than the first generation 360, it still has fan noise, but not really louder than the fan in the TV.
The HDMI output is noticeably cleaner than the standard component output, and I'm very pleased that Mircosoft decided to include the HDMI cable with this unit. (Hint: you don't need to buy the $100 Monster cable, it's digital, so you don't get signal loss)

If you are like me then you waited on buying an Xbox 360 because of "The Red Ring of Death". I kept hearing stories about how people whould buy an Xbox 360 and a little while later get a critical error that would make their system unuseable. I have also heard that some people had a hard time with Microsoft customer service. So I waited...
I finally bought one just two weeks ago. (Made sure it had the falcon chipset) To my dismay My system locked up in the middle of a game and started flashing the "RRoD". I was shocked, I was upset, I was angry! I thought after all this time they would have fixed this. I thought the Elite with the falcon chipset was the answer to everyone's problems. Why did this happen to me?!? I was so careful in my waiting. I wanted to make sure this "RRoD" was fixed and gone. Why is Microsoft so unreliable on their Xbox 360s?

I just received an XBox 360 Elite for Christmas and already own a PS3/Wii, so I thought I would give my review of all three systems (and even throw Apple TV into the mix). I believe you need to rate these systems on 2 criteria, a gaming console and a media center:
Gaming Console - I had never owned a Playstation or Xbox until recently, I have always been a Nintendo person.
PS3- Now that I have all three systems I must say that I am the most disappointed with the PS3. From research and reading reviews, I just could not find any must have games. All I kept hearing is to wait as the future games will be great. If that is true, then why bother buying the system now, just wait until these "future" games come out and then buy the system, probably at a much cheaper price. I am not saying that the PS3 cannot be a winning system, I just don't understand why so many reviewers will emphatically recommend it but then finish it off with the caveat that the games are not good yet, isn't that the purpose

... It's so obviously a good product, why review it?
... Well, there are things that can be specifically said about this model, and I was surprised to see over twenty one-star reviews. I was incredulous, until I saw that most of them were just "don't buy it" or "$580 is crazy", which may have been applicable at one time, but don't shed any light on the product.
... Xbox 360 in general. I like the power supply separate; helps with heat, is sensitive to power issues and will red light when there is a problem. Power surge at my house made everything brown out. Xbox wouldn't allow me to power up until I unplugged the power supply and plugged it back in. It's a nice feature, unless you can't reach your plug.
... This Elite model in particular. Well, it may not be a frugal choice. It was my choice because I prefer the black to the white and I like the idea of the larger hard drive. That being said, I don't seem to be utilizing the space or even coming close. Of course, I don't keep a

I loved this product! My wife, son (four) and myself played a couple hours a night for three months. Xbox Live is phenomenal. We purchased the unit brand new and bought the extended warranty contract. Three months later RED RINGS OF DEATH. I have two friends with the Elite 360. One is fine the other just received three red rings of death. I thought the Elite's were somewhat impervious to this! Again, the games, graphics, etc. are just excellent. My family and I have never had more fun with a game console, or even our PC for that matter.
Here's my story below, however! BEWARE! I'm going to Amex to reverse this three-month old purchase. My recommendation? Buy something else. I'm scared off of this console. Worst support I have ever dealt with. They literally tell you that you have no options and they won't help or escalate. Oh, you're a month without your product? Tough. We'll get to you when we feel like it. A month without Xbox Live that you PAID for? Tough. Deal with it.

I recently bought an xbox 360 elite and so far it has run flawlessly and is actually extremelly quiet running.. I cant even hear it when the room is quiet. After about 5 or 6 hours of playing the first day I had it it did run a bit hot in the rear exhaust area but all around the console was cool to the touch and after shuting it down it was completely cool after approximately 30 minutes.
Maybe I am sticking my foot in my mouth but so far my 360 runs very smoothly, is very quiet running while playing games such as halo 3 and any other time, and is not running overly hot even with several hours of continued use.
Having said all that - the 360 is also fun. There are many good games for its native platform as well as many old school arcade games you can play multiplayer - very fun. There are also many movies and tv shows available. It is generally more cost effective just to purchase most of these on dvd seperately. However many tv shows are broken down by season and individual episodes so

I purchased this system on September 25th, along with Halo 3. All I can say is wow. The graphics are stunning, the loading time is virtually non-existent, and the ease of use is incomparable.
The 120gb hard drive frees you from any worries whatsoever about filling up, even with downloading a LOT of free content from the marketplace. The black color scheme I also love, as it matches my original Xbox :)
The Elite comes with a few extra cables as well, though I think it would be nice if Microsoft would include a VGA HD AV Cable so that you can hook it up to a pc monitor. I went ahead and purchased a similar cable from ebay for around $20.
I have read reports of many failures due to the "Red Rings of Death", which is when 3 of the 4 lights on the front of the 360 blink red. This indicates a hardware failure, and is generally caused by overheating. So, I took a common household fan and placed it behind the 360 on "medium" setting. This keeps the 360 very cool, and it has never even

I already owned a Wii (which, by the way, is just incredible, really five stars in itself) when I bought this system, and had recently saved up enough money for either an Xbox 360 premium or a 60GB PS3. I won't lie to you, I was drawn to the PS3 for a long time, as I owned both the PSone and PS2, but not an XBOX. After several months of stressing, I finally settled on the PS3 after reading far too many complaints about the RROD. However, when MS released the Elite in July, I was beside myself. According to an additional month of research on the Elite, it appeared as if MS had virually eliminated the RROD (apparently many early models of 360 had the cooling fans installed backwards by accident, unintentionally "super-frying" the system (this error being a reslut of the 360 being rushed onto the market before it was ready)). I was still leaning towards Sony though, because of the built in Bluray player, but then MS sealed the deal for me and lowered the cost of the Elite by $30, and Amazon

Great product, system gets a little warm but Microsoft has started putting the extra heat sink in the elites and my guess all newly manufactured Xbox 360's. My 360 did come with the extra heat sink for all those people wondering about that. I couldn't tell anybody if the Elite is any cooler or quieter than any other Xbox 360 as this is my first one. I would recommend getting the extended warranty for piece of mind. Now, with that said, the xbox 360 is a must have for all gamers. I own both a Nintendo Wii and an Xbox 360 and love the both of them. As of now I would recommend the Xbox 360 over the Play Station 3, as the 360 has a lot more games and just as great of graphics. As the PS3 gets a little older and the library of games starts to increase there may be some games worth buying it for, but as of now the Xbox 360 has the games and games make the system. I recommend the Elite over the other Xbox systems if you can afford it as the 120GB HD is great to have compared to only 20GB or nothing

I purchased my elite about a week ago, about 18 months after purchasing my original xbox 360 premium...I wanted the extra HDD space. My experience so far has been great...
Pros:
~ 120gb harddrive
~ HDMI (cable is included along wth component cable)
~ Color - I personally prefer the black color
~ Game line-up: Xbox 360 has the biggest and best game line-up of the three "next gen" gaming consoles. And this will only get better with the upcoming holiday season.
~ Very quiet. Being that I owned both a third generation premium 360 console, I can attest to the vast difference in noise levels of the elite.
~ Microsoft has done an excellent job of designing the menu - very intuitive and easy to navigate.
~ Xbox Live is second to none. Currently the leader in online gaming, it allows you to have live private or in-game chat with friends or foe. Demos, trailers, dvd and hd movie downloads, music videos, arcade games, etc...the list goes on.

~ HDMI (cable is included along wth component cable)
