Samsung 56" 1080p Slim-Depth DLP HDTV
Let me start out by saying despite being disappointed with this TV Amazons service was excellent. I have nothing but good things to say about Amazon and Ceva (Eagle). I ended up returning this TV and going with a Samsung LCD instead. I've looked at the HLT5676S in big box stores and never noticed this "Silk Screen Effect", but at home it was unbearable. I'm not sure if it was my viewing conditions or just this particular TV. After reading in some forums that this is a major problem with rear projection TVs I decided to go with an LCD instead.

I ordered this tv from Amazon after doing literally months of research. I was really interested in an LCD, then I found that plasma would suit my viewing habits better. My friend bought a 50" dlp in 720p. I really liked that picture. What sold me on the dlp is the fact that the bulb is replacable. On both the lcd and plasmas once the screen fades, according to everything I read, you're done. Throw it out and buy a new one. Prices have certainly come down, and I'm sure will decrease further, but I have no desire to fork out this kind of $$ again anytime soon.

I priced a Samsung 50" dlp in 1080p at all the local stores. Most didn't even carry it in stock. Circuit City had it (the closest location to me being 50 miles away) for $400 more than Amazon, plus I would have had to pick it up, and I would have paid sales tax. Using Amazon, I got a lower price, no tax, and free shipping. Also, as I was looking at the 50" I saw this 56" one. It was only $50 more!! That's a lot of tv for

This TV is a steal for the price. You can't find acomparable price for a screen this big with great features.Very light for the the size (66lbs I believe). The sound leaves something to be desired but for thereduction in price, go buy yourself a home theater system.

I also have the HL-T5676S, and have been smiling ever since its purchase. Obviously, to get the most out of the TV, use HDMI connectors and sign up for HD service from your video content prover. I've not seen true 1080p yet, since I don't have blue-ray, but the 1080i and 720p content from the various HD networks look fine.

The difference between HD and non-HD is quite apparent with such a large TV, enough so to render non-HD content practically unwatchable. The television is quite tweakable, but surprisingly, the preset video modes, i.e. Standard, Movie and Dynamic are quite usable for quick, out of the box use.

You will want to spend the time, however, to optimize all the settings to your particular viewing environment.

The TV's audio is not bad, but you'll really want to mate a television of this size with a 5.1 or 6.1 Surround sound set to get the full cinematic video and audio experience.

All of the inputs and outputs are to the side, instead of the back, like most TV's. If

Bought the hlt5676s instead of the hlt5687s. I heard great things about the LED light in the hlt5687s but when I saw it at the store it did not give me as wide of an angle for viewing as the hlt5676s. The led was sharper in contrast between the shades and blacks in the movies I have watched compared to the hlt5676s. It was very small and not big enough to sway me to by the LED and compromise viewing angle. I got this modle for 1,899.97 at RC Willey on sale. PS VERY THIN.
