I opted for the nuvi 650 rather than the nuvi 660. I didn't need the blue tooth or the FM receiver so why spend the extra money?? I've had only good experiences with this unit. It works well for me! I also purchased the friction mount (you got to have this when switching vehicles), and the leather carrying case. These two accessories are a "must have" and made my nuvi 650 complete. All in all, you can't go wrong with this GPS. Highly recommended!

I read a lot of the reviews before buying and found them helpful. Most of the pros and cons are already stated but a few things that I would've liked to know ahead of time are:
Pros - Bought this for $200 new on Amazon and to get any other Garmin that has Text to Speech and the other features that this has is nearly double the price. After using the text to speech function I would not buy a nav without it. It is much safer to have the street names said instead of having to look down at a screen and read street names while driving. Also, the satellite reception is much better then my Nuvi 200 was. Much better. If I turn it on a couple minutes before I leave my house it already has reception before I get in the car. If I wait until I am already driving, it never takes more then 5 minutes to pick it up. My Nuvi 200 was probably 10 minutes prior to leaving and sometimes up to almost a half hour if I'm already on the road.
Cons - The charging system is different from most of the

I have used this unit now for about 4 months and generally really like it. It is easy to see on bright days, it acquires signals quickly and generally gets you there easily. It does not always pick the best route but if you deviate to a preferred alternate road it recalculates quickly. I would like to see more programable route functions for long trips across states or the US. Not being able to avoid certain routes or to select certain routes is disappointing. With the unit as it is now for long trips, one must use a map and just go off course to get to selected areas or re-progam the unit frequently. It would be much nicer to just sit a at computer lay out the route and download it into the unit. My biggest problem with this unit tho is the windshield mount. It began to fail within a few days and now will not stick to anything- so in 4 months it has become totally worthless. It has been cleaned and no obvious problems with the cup can be seen. Now the unit has to be jury rigged

I live in the suburbs outside of Washington DC. THis is the only navigation systems I have owned and used so I cannot compare it to others.
The Garmin has worked very well. I don't know if it always takes the fastest route, but they have all gotten us there without hassle. I say this because I have used it on trips where I know where I am going just to try it out and found that the Garmin took me a way I normally don't go. This may be because it truly is better or because I have local knowledge that makes me go a different way. One example is a trip around the "Beltway" or 495. The Garmin wanted to take us through the city - I opted to go around the city. I'm sure without traffic the Garmin route would be quicker... but not with DC traffic.
I love the "text to speach" option - the garmin actually says the names.

i drive for Eco Cycle in Boulder CO. most of the places we go are already known. some arent. there is always something new in the world of recycling and always a new place to go get the stuff. there was one time i was so lost that i had to call the customer to come and find "me". i wasnt that far away, i just was'nt familiar with the area and exactly how to get there. usually when we get a new account or a special pickup, we'll do a mapqwest or google map printout to get me there. they always will show the highway and town and address im going to.
DUHHHHH????
i got that part.
BUT, its not fun trying to look at a blurry piece of paper from a printer with directions so small you cant see em and shift a 10 speed freightliner at the same time
where i get lost is in the short game.
thats where the gps comes in.
finding a specific address.
i love you mapqwest and google maps for getting me to the ballpark
thank you garmin for finding my seat.
the 650 is a no frills gps. all it does is get

I normally don't write reviews, although in this case, it's worth my time. I will caveat this review by stating up front that this is my first GPS unit and I have nothing else to compare it to.
Well, we've had this Garmin Model for about 8 months and LOVE it. You already know about the obvious stuff that GPS does, so I won't get into that, but if you think you still don't need one, check this out. We stopped in a rest area on an interstate about 1 in the morning and used the Garmin to find a hotel within the next few miles. It listed about 15 with address and phone numbers. We called several until we found one that had vacancy. Then we set the Garmin to that address as a stop along our current route. What a gas and time saver! We've used to find preferred gas stations (to get our discount); stores while traveling, restaurants, etc. I can't say enough good things about this Garmin. It works great as a GPS unit, but the extra features that I described here are awesome and we love it. We

For the most part, we are satisfied with this unit. This is the first GPS system we have purchased. We used it recently to travel across the United States. No matter where we traveled from a large city to a small town in the middle of nowhere, the GPS unit was able to find where we were and give us directions. Loved the capability of finding stores and restaurants where we were.
Only complaint is that directions are given for "proper" highway numbers, where as street signs give the name of the street. For example, the GPS might say turn on US 150, but the street signs say Henderson Street.
Very satisfied and would recommend this product.

All I can say is...WOW! Right out of the box this unit worked perfect. The screen is big and bright and the larger keyboard made making changes simple. It has so many features...for the money, you can't beat it. Of course I was lucky enough to get it on sale. As your driving down the road it even shows lakes and ponds that are coming up. Definately one of the best things I have purchased in a long time. Now, I have only had it two months...but so far, wow!

I have a factory installed GPS unit in my Honda Accord. To me, the Nuvi is not as user friendly as the Honda unit. I am sure that part of the reason is my familiarity with the Honda system. However, I was familiar with the operation of GPS units when I got the Nuvi so it was easy to transition to the Nuvi.. It is a usable, reliable unit and it was rated number 2 when I searched the Consumer Reports online reviews. The Nuvi 750 was number 1. I am satisfied with it, but I will replace it in a couple years when improved units become available.

I used the system on holidays in the canadian rockies and it worked great. The only fault I found was the instructions did not give enough detail for this 0ld fella. Thanks

EAsy to use out of the box. I have a factory unit in my Caddy STS I compared the routes on a trip, i liked the way the Garmin took me. I would like the Garmin to tell me the name of the street I'm on, the Caddy does that. The maps are large and easy to glance at. I wanted this unit because I have a classic car and a pick-up. I got the MP3 player in this unit for the classic car. I also purchased a second mount from the GPS store with a carry case to go from the pick up to the classic car . You need to purchase SD card for large amounts of music

Bought the Garmin Nuvi 650 because we travel a lot for business and pleasure. On our most recent trip from Denver to Houston the 650 performed GREAT!!! Easy to enter your destination, recalculates quickly if you go off track, hotel and restaurant features work well, trip calculator and other features make the unit outstanding. Especially like that the unit "talks" to you. For the price we paid at Overstock.com you can't beat this one. GET IT!!!

We purchased the Garmin Nuvi650 in February 2008. We had previously had the Garmin IQ3600. The Nuvi is so much easier to operate and we like the 4.3 inch screen. The only negative that I can think of is the fact that you cannot delete single addresses because you have to clear ALL of them. Not a big deal, we just put the ones we use often in Favorites. We will never be without a Garmin!

We are so pleased with our purchase of the Garmin Nuvi 650. This was our first time buying a GPS device and after reading the various reviews for this product, decided to get this one. The price was really good and we received it in just a few days. Overall we are quite pleased with how it operates and feel it's a good buy.

I read a lot of lesser reviews and they seem to have fixed most of the problems I've read about or those people just didn't understand how to do what they wanted it to do.
I can scan out and move the screen around to see the whole route. I can set one way point on the way to a destination though it's easier to do just one leg of the trip at a time.
downside
It likes big roads and does not like the smaller roads even though they may be faster. I have not figured out how to easily change a route when it tells me to go on one road but maybe I want to stay off the highway today. It always tells me to do a u turn or get back on route.
I'll figure out a way to fix this but it may be more work than what I need since I usually know these areas better than it does. It worked great on long trips where I did not know where I was. It did try to send me on one off ramp that did not exist off the Blue ridge Parkway. It was a bridge over another road and I had to double back to get onto the road. Minor

This is a solid Gps unit that does everything it says it will do and it does it well. It has the larger screen but is thin enough to carry in your pocket. It has loads of features but not blue tooth for phones. Most people I know with the blue tooth say it does not work well on a Gps unit.

Words cannot express how pleased I’ve been with this product. Not only is it easy to set up (maybe 5 minutes max), it is intuitive to use – don’ need a manual. It acquires the satellites quickly and makes route adjustments faster than any other GPS I’ve used. The features are great. Favorites are easy to set up and the ability to “find a place of interest” (i.e. elementary schools, restaurants, etc.) allows you to take off somewhere without even needing an address (for most public locations of course). The battery life is great – charge it once a week and the screen is clear and bright.

IT IS THE MOST DEPENDEBLE BRAND NAME GPS THAT EXIST.
MY HUSBAND SAID THAT "IT WAS THE MOST VALUED PRESENT THAT I GIVE TO HIM. HE IS SO DESORIENTED PERSON. KNOW HE IS ABLE TO GO EVERYWHERE WITH HIS NUVI". " HE OFFER TO THE PERSON IF YOU WANT I CAN GIVE YOU A RIDE"

This unit has all the features I needed. Easy to use and so far has been very accurate, with mapping as current as one can expect in a city growing as fast as Las Vegas.

This will be used all over the country as I travel for a living. I know I will never ever get lost while using this system, yet I may not be getting there the best and fastest way possable. Just using around my home town. I've found it gives me very questionable directions and certainly not the most direct. Im having a hard time proving the need and merits of this Garmin 650 to my wife when its sending me down back alleys and side streets when we know there is a direct route which is faster and less miles. Somewhat disappointing.

If you are considering the purchase of a portable navagaition system look no further than the Garmin Nuvi 650. This GPS is everything and more it claims to be. I initially purchased the device for personal use. After significant review, I am considering purchasing three more units to place in the delivery vehicles of the company I work for.

Out of box it took us from Louisville, Ky to the front door of our motel in Cocoa Beach, Fl. Exit for gasoline stop & it starts a RECALC before you get off the exit ramp. EZ to setup. Great for locating resturants & ect on the fly, including maps & phone numbers. Same for motels. I avg 62.7 MPH & it was always accurate. Would advise turns in 9/10 of a mile before arrival. Voice commands are very clear. Zipped thru Orlando and Atlanta.

The unit was defective when received. The MP3 and Audio Book player would not operate. I had to return the product. I have not received the unit back from Garmin but they were very responsive and did not charge for shipping. I feel they will ensure I am OK, customer service was great. If you have the money and need a cell phone, I would recommend purchasing a phone with navigation instead of just a navigation system. I found this is pretty much another gadget to need a power source in my car and it takes space. Remember, you will need to hide your navigation unit when you park so it will not be stolen. Every time you park, you will go through a process of disconnecting the unit then reconnecting it when you re-enter the car. The process gets old after a short time. Overall, the unit is good, I think the interface is a little childlike but that is OK. Navigation units shouldn't be difficult and take the drivers eyes/mind off the road. The unit is easy to use; you may find you won’t need

I have factory installed Nav systems on two other cars -- this is the easiest, by far, to work with. Portability is nice too. Planning a European trip next spring and I'll be able to purchase European maps to download into the Garmin.
Only complaint is that the mounting disc does NOT adhere to the dash in a V W -- Had to permanently drill some holes in the dash to affix the unit where I wanted it to go -- Mounting bracket adheres to window glass quite well, though

After reading SO many good reviews about this product, I decided to buy it and see if it lived up to the hype and planned on returning my Magellan 4040 if it did, in fact, meet my expectations. Let me say that it fell drastically short.
One of the main reasons I purchased this unit was because the maps looked incredibly easy to read. I usually wear sunglasses while I'm driving so I needed a bright, clear GPS to read. I will say that Garmin does a good job in this department. However, it lacks in almost every other area. If you are on the fence between a Magellan and a Garmin, please go with the Magellan!!!! Here is why.
-The magellan has a much nicer interface and is WAY more user friendly. The touch screen is extremely responsive. With the Garmin, I had to pretty much pound my fingers into the screen to get a response. The Magellan only needs a light tap.
-Garmin does not automatically blur out letters as you are typing to make data entry faster. Magellan does this, and

We found it very easy to learn the use of the Grmin Nuvi 650.
It works great and is a great comfort to my wife who at times is geographically challenged. The screen size is fine and the color/contrast is very good. I would like to be able to control the organization (sequence) of items in the favorites list but haven't figured out yet how to make this happen.

The only issue I have with this product is the undersized suction cup used to mount the device to a window. If you don’t position it carefully, the device WILL fall from your window. The first time using it, it took me ten (10) minutes to apply to my windshield-the device fell off again. Since then-with practice-it has taken me less time to apply the suction cup to the windshield, although keeping it ON the windshield has been hit-or-miss.
