Just returned back from France and Italy with this product which I purchased before traveling. Absolutely useless. Had me making u-turns on freeways, we nearly ended up in Spain on one trip while the device added 4 hours to a 1.5 hour trip. Rome was a joke as it consistently "updated" every 2 seconds and could never make up its mind. Tried it also for walking but you have to have an IFR pilots license to be able to work out directions. In built up areas like Paris and Rome it couldn't identify areas even when i was standing directly at the point of location and common restaurants and other attractions. The South of France was the worst and even when you tried to scroll out to a larger view to do some form of location pin-pointing the device kept going back to micro-map mode. Do not waste your money. Try one of the others that has Euro maps. I have a Garmin in my cars for the US and that is why i purchased this. The US Garmins are awesome but this product will do you more harm

Garmin n?vi 270 GPS
I retired a couple years ago as a commercial pilot who dealt with GPS's on a daily basis and have a factory installed unit in my Acura TL.

I bought this unit to use as a pedestrian sight-seeing in France and Switzerland. This review is only my experience trying to use the Garmin Nuvi 270 as a pedestrian in European cities. I make no supposition how it would work in a car in the USA nor in a car through the narrow streets of Europe or as a pedestrian in US cities..

The Garmin Nuvi 270 has a pedestrian mode and is pre-loaded with maps of Europe. At slightly over $300 the unit was very appealing so I bought one for my trip in May 2008.

The Good:

1. The touch screen is very responsive
2. The screen is very clear and bright.
3. 3.5 inch screen, in my view, is the perfect pedestrian size.
4. The database used is good by today's standards.
5. Physically the 270, in my opinion, is the correct size for walking.

The Bad:

1. The first bad feature and by far the overriding issue is the

I am an Idiot.
1) I get lost going out of my bathroom
2 I only speak english
My brother and I decided to rent a car and tour Germany. The 270 took us on our trip without problems. It made it most enjoyable. We even drove at 131 MPH the the Autobahn. When we needed to eat we just let the GPS find a resturant for us

This GPS does US, Canada & Europe without having to buy extra maps.

Cheers!

I just bought my 270 for a planned European excursion this summer and next. While it has no documentation, it seems fairly easy to use. Since I haven't gone yet, I'm unclear how it will perform in Europe BUT I already have a major gripe that it has no way (as far as I can tell, and the enclosed documentation gave no help) to plan routes before you arrive in Europe. I was trying to plan distances from hotels and restaurants, to museums and cities, and while you can see a detailed map of these foreign locales, there is no way of plotting a route!!! I cannot find a way of entering a starting point!!! This is pathetic!!! Even Yahoo Maps on my Blackberry World can do this. This is a major need to travelers that has been missed by Garmin on this device.

I had always wanted a GPS and before we went on our recent trip to Europe I saw the price for the Nuvi 270 (which included the maps of Europe) and I decided to take the plunge. I'm am SOOO glad that I did!!! Upon leaving the airport in Frankfurt it gave us perfect directions to find my Aunt's home. After that the only time we got lost is when we'd either take it out of the car too soon or not have it on. We learned quickly not to do that. This guided us through Germany, into France and to Brugge and back without any problems (although when we went into France from Germany it definitely picked the 'out of the way' route... pretty though! ;-).

I seriously couldn't recommend it more highly. Sometimes it might not pick the same route a native might, but you always get where you want to go (and you don't have to worry about missing signs!).

Had this for a couple of months, it really works well. It does get confused soemtimes, especially around large highway interchanges where you have parallel roads and multiple exits. The single biggest complaint I have is the touch screen keyboard. Garmin... PUT A QWERTY KEYBOARD INTERfACE!!!!!!!!!!! Typing in locations using an alphabet interface absolutely sucks!!!! I have looked for a way to re-confgure and try to change it but could not find any options to do so. As others prior to me have commented, the documentation is really marginal. Garmin if you are trying to save print costs, at least put something a little more in-depth up on your website. There are several features that are completely undocumented.... would've been 5 stars...

My husband and I bought the Garmin nuvi 270 for our honeymoon in Italy since it included maps of Europe. It worked great out there and also here in the states. It's small and light and fits easily in a purse or bag. We did try to use the Garmin while walking on foot in Rome. I would not suggest this... it had us walking in circles! Vehicle use only.

The Garmin Nuvi 270 is great. We have used it on several occations. We live over in Germany and so far it has gotten us exactly where we want to go. Only disappointment is that it states it has all of Europe loaded, but it really doesnt. Other than that it has been very useful.

This is the answer for those of us who can not seem to find our way in unfamiliar areas. The Garmin gives me peace of mind, which is priceless. This model has all the features a non-technical person such as myself can handle. Very easy to operate.

Honestly, a great buy to get on the road and quickly have directions that you can use immediately. Using it in an area that I've lived in all my life is a little wierd,. at times even when i put in shortest time/distance it will still go a longer route then i know is possible, but we recently took a road trip using nothing but the system and it got us to where we needed to go. It just seems that once you get into neighborhoods or specifics that it isn't so accurate. But it gets you within 500 feet of where you need to be. Super easy to use and understand and an enormous wealth of information on shops and points of interest.

I actually bought the GPS for my husband for Christmas. He left for Florida on Christmas day, and he tells me the Garmin is great. I'm sure he'll have a lot more to tell me about it when he finally gets back home via New Orleans. The voice is very clear, and we both liked that little car it shows on the roads. All the directions are very clear, and it's fun to use.

Bought this for my daughter who does a lot of out of country traveling. She tell me she loves it and it works great! It even warns you when there is radar trap and what the speed limit is in that area (happened over in England). Easy to use, Great Price, Speedy delivery.

Easy to use, clear audio and video. Maps of Europe preloaded in addition to North America. Purposely drove in different direction and recalculates very quickly and accurately.
