I have seen this approach route me through very dense traffic areas that could have been easily avoided. It occasionally does not use shortcuts that may require driving through smaller local streets. However, once ignored and started on a known shorter or quicker path, the Garmin does recalculate and issue reasonable directions to use the shortcut.

Considering the price difference, I am still very happy with my selection.

two optional map views (say 3D default -->Birds eye) only the default view will have the background map scroll while keeping the car icon in the center of the screen; The map is static and the car will move off the screen unless you drag the map to where the car is (manually re-center the map).

One excellent change would be to move directly from any screen back to the map; you can go down three leves while using some of the built in tools then you have to keep hitting "back".."back"..."back" to the top menu so you can once again get back to your map. Scenario...driving and you want to place a call..press options, phone icon, history, last call, select number, press dial..then to go back to the Map...back,,back...back..back..back..show map..too much "hands off the wheel".

Traffic Alerts - pretty good but I've received alerts that come just as I pull into the area..I'd like to have a little more notice than 10 seconds. None the less, seeing where the traffic jams and all the detail about the delay types is pretty nice to have an I think worth the 60$/year once you exceed the free 3month subscription. I'll renew!

Value..I just bought a second one for my oldest son for Christmas and got it 60$ cheaper than I bought mine 3 months ago..Great value on overstock.com for this product...
